Charlton House ghost hunt – 4th July 2015

Charlton House ghost hunt 4th July 2015
Greenwich, London

Since we have been to this venue before I decided to move the team around and for different activities to take place in different rooms.

This time around I used the Library for my séance sessions.

I joined Wayne & Paula for their first session in rooms that used to be bedrooms. I pointed out at various times the spirit who I could see, the first one was a stocky chap who was called Antony who was a Rose gardener and he wore a green shirt or top and light brown trousers. Wayne could sense someone in the doorway but did not know who it was.

Also when three people left the room with Paula I noticed that there were two nurses, both dressed in World War One uniforms chatting in the corridor, neither seemed to be interested in what we were doing.

The first group to the Library we started a séance on the lower level and we were joined almost immediately by a strict looking Edwardian gentleman who turned out to be a banker. He was wearing a smart three piece pin stripe suit and a top hat. Whilst he didn’t give me his name he looked to be in his late 50s. As I said at the time, he looked like the bankers from the film Mary Poppins.

The was also an old couple, walking hand in hand down the side of the room holding a small bunch of flowers, both looked to be in their 70s and the man called his wife Agatha. They looked to be on their way to church or to place flowers at a grave side. They did not interact with us.

During the séance we all heard a number of clicks and bangs within the room, one of the guests suggested that this might have been materials of the building cooling down after a hot day, although this sound was not heard by the following group. We also heard footfalls on the upper level but the sounds were not heard by everyone in the same direction.

There were a few arm movements during the first séance and some swinging of arms, this was a soldier from the First World War who was responsible for these movements although he tired quickly and the group did not encourage him to do anything.

After everyone had explored the upper level we held another séance this time sitting down and although no movement was felt by anyone it did increase the energy in the room as we heard a lot more odd noises and towards the end of the session we all clearly heard a noise that sounded like a cane being tapped on the wooden floor twice.

The second group to the Library we started a séance more or less in the same spot as the first and quite quickly people around the circle started to feel pressure on their arms and hands, but more noticeably on their backs and legs. Some people were swaying uncontrollably, others being forced towards the floor.

It seemed that those in a certain spot felt the activity greater than the rest of the guests and some of those who were being moved also felt cold spots and a general coldness (this was on a hot day where the air temperature was 26-28 degrees Celsius in the day and 17 degrees at night).

During the séance we all heard noises that sounded like footfalls on the upper level, these were in different areas to the first group and these noises sounded more complete, like proper footsteps rather than the sound of just one, like something had been dropped.

Several people had their arms moved by spirit too and swayed as there were children spirit about, although I did not see these, but other people in the group could sense them.

A few times the circle of people moved clockwise so that everyone could feel the spot where it was colder and where movement seemed to occur.

This was another excellent ghost hunt with lots of paranormal activity experienced by everyone.

We look forward to returning later in the year.

Chelmsford Museum ghost hunt – 27th June 2015

Tuesday, July 7th, 2015

Chelmsford Museum ghost hunt 27th June 2015
Chelmsford, Essex

This was our first ghost hunt at this museum, although I had visited earlier in the year to see if it was suitable and spirit energies present. I had envisaged that I would work in a particular area come the ghost hunt but as it turned out I didn’t use the area I thought I would.

To start the event we held a tech and equipment session in one of the larger upstairs rooms, this was also one of the cooler rooms as it was June and quite warm outside. We also gave out traditional ghost hunting equipment; dowsing rods and pendulums alongside more modern equipment like KII EMF readers and Ghost Meter Pro’s which are essentially communication devices.

The first group session I used what used to be a drawing room in the old Oaklands House and we were joined by two spirit energies, one a small boy about 7 or 8 years old who was called Scott, the other a Doctor from the early 1900’s called Timothy or Tim. Various people in the group were moved by Tim, however he didn’t touch two people for some reason, but everyone else had either their hands lifted and moved or they were rocked or pushed, sometimes quite quickly to the floor.

The second group session I started in the same room and after some minor spirit activity where some people in the group had their arms moved or felt spirit touch them I moved to another room to see if the spirits would do anything different. The room I chose several people felt unsteady on their feet and although I wasn’t being affected directly, every time I moved closer to those who were, I felt sick and dizzy. Two guests in particular felt themselves being forced towards the floor and once on the floor they were unable to get up. They both reported that they felt pinned down.

The third group session I started in the main hall, which incidentally is where I thought I would hold my sessions. The spirit that was around us and affecting everyone was a First World War Sergeant who didn’t really tell me his name, just what I assume was a nickname “Tinney”. He was about 6 foot in height, of slim build and had a typical moustache for the time period. He had been shot in the neck but survived. Asking the spirit to move people resulted in many people being pushed, swayed, twisted and moved all around the room and onto the floor. Many occasions the whole group except one person ended up on the floor, sometimes pushed against the walls, sometimes against people, sometimes on their own (relative to the rest of the group). This was a fun session for both the spirit and guests.

This was an enjoyable ghost hunt and a location that we look forward to returning in November 2015

Landguard Fort ghost hunt – 13th June 2015

Tuesday, July 7th, 2015

Landguard Fort ghost hunt 13th June 2015
Felixstowe, Suffolk

Due to a smaller group of guests we kept everyone in one group and the team took turns to host different sessions. We started with a human pendulum sessions in the guardhouse and shower/boiler room. The session was split between two rooms because Sue (GHE team) wanted to use both rooms.

Spirit stepped forward in both areas and guests were able to communicate and get answers to their questions.

The second session was a tech and gadget session in the communications rooms. These rooms have in the past been very active. Once again our equipment lit up with spirit activity but this time the spirit needed to be ordered to do something. Considering the room; a communications room and plotting room where ship movements could be plotted it really isn’t surprising that the spirit needed to be told what to do, as this would have happened in life. There was a female spirit called Natalie present, she was aged in her late 20s and a Royal Navy clerk and gave the year that she would have been at the Fort as 1959.

Certain rooms were more active than others and the smaller radio rooms seemed to reveal the most results with one room in particular that guests found to be more active.

The third session was another double activity session with half the group using a Ouija board, the other half table tilting. It was a bit of a let down to start with as very little happened to either group when they were both in the same room. However we split up and moved a few rooms away from each other and I joined the table tilting group. There was a male spirit called Colin who was present and able to move the table although this was not massive amounts of movements, this was gentler. However as a team we have had table walked into and out of rooms, down staircases and around the narrow walkways of the fort, we can’t expect to have that sort of activity every time as different spirit are able to do different things. But we always hope that the spirit can move the table to start with, that in itself is probably a massive feat for the spirit.

The fourth session was a séance session in one of the older magazines rooms. This room I have used many a time as the spirit that seem to frequent this area are able to move people. Lots of people felt spirit move their arms, this was after a while on command and the spirit who was called Damien, a young 20 year old modern spirit, although he didn’t tell me the year, his clothing was from the 1980s period. Once Damien got used to moved certain people he was able to twist people up and tangle their arms, wobble the guests forwards and mostly backwards when they least expected to be moved. Both Will and Ben (guests) who were either side of me, were both pushed many times and they both had their arms moved. Damien also dragged mine and Will’s hand down to the floor and every time let us stand up a bit and then push or pull our hands back down to the floor. This was all very strange and something which I haven’t experienced before at this fort. Usually the spirit either push people to the floor and then let them stand back up but to be let half way up and then pushed down feels very odd. There was another male spirit in the room with us, but I could not see him nor would he tell me his name, but he was responsible for moved people opposite me, as those guests were moved in a different way.

From this room we moved through the tunnels around to another magazine room underneath the seaward side gun rooms as there is one room that we sometimes have activity in. We asked spirit to make a noise or tap or knock and after a short while we heard some noises. These sounded like water dripping onto something (it was raining at the time) but we could not see any water on the ceiling or on the floor. However when asked to make the same noise again we all heard a definite tap, this happened just two more times before we had to finish the session.

The guests then had a 45 minute free time session where they went off on their own or with different team members to do their own style ghost hunt in rooms that we didn’t use during the ghost hunt. Many guests headed towards the Caponier or to the upper gun rooms.

All in all this was an excellent ghost hunt with all the guests having some paranormal experiences and our VIP guests thoroughly enjoyed the experience. You can watch the VIP reviews at https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLqWQMrZeI7VRO5B3eXYak5UiQTRDsxxTU

This is one of the GHE team’s favourite venues and we always look forward to returning to the venue.

Fort Horsted ghost hunt – 6th June 2015

Friday, July 3rd, 2015

Fort Horsted ghost hunt 6th June 2015
Chatham, Kent

Given that we have investigated Fort Horsted a great number of times over the last four years, I have never held a séance in the hanging room. Strange really because the Hanging room is known for its paranormal activity and why it is called the hanging room.

Having just two groups but three team member sessions meant that each team member had one session off and could join another session or investigate on their own.

Both groups in the Hanging room felt the spirit called Damien who was aged in his early 20s, quite a happy person who was a soldier from the Second World War.

In the first group Craig felt angry for no obvious reason although he said that it made him feel that he wanted to hurt someone. Steve also became affected and felt sick and unwell. Other guests felt the spirit lift their arms and push them gentle forwards and backwards.

The second group had lots of movement in this room, with Damien exercising his spiritual muscles so to speak, with people being pushed against the walls and being dragged by their arms to the floor. There was also lots of arm movement and gesturing of cutting someone’s throat, although the reason for this wasn’t explained by the spirit. Half the group were twisted and pushed together leaving the other half puzzled as to why they hadn’t been moved.

There are many reasons why some people don’t get touched or moved but by far is resisting the spiritual movement, not being relaxed and not encouraging the spirit to do something. Standing in silence is not encouraging to the spirit.

All in all another good ghost hunt with lots of paranormal activity

Rye Castle ghost hunt – 30th May 2015

Friday, July 3rd, 2015

Rye Castle ghost hunt 30th May 2015
Rye, East Sussex

I often wonder why we don’t come across more criminal spirits at this venue, however I now believe that this is because what we call criminal today is not as bad as it were 200, 300 or even 600 years ago. This Castle has seen many people over the years and that stealing a loaf of bread is looked down upon in today’s society, but 300 years ago it could have meant spending several days in a cell where fights and disease might have killed a person.

The first group in the Keep the séance started with lots of arm movements, which quickly evolved into twisting and dragging people towards the cells and sometimes the movement would drag a person to the floor, but generally the movement was always towards one particular cell. Once in this cell Amber felt arms around her neck which freaked her out.

However once we came out of the cell the atmosphere for the room had changed, before it was this maleficent sensation, now it was a calm feeling. So I asked each guest in turn to stand by the front window to see what happens. Each guest reported that they felt pushed or pulled (depending on which way they were facing) into the wall. Why this should happen we have no idea, but it happens most of the time to the majority of people.

The second group had a more placid time although there were different spirit around; Gordon a gentleman and Percy, a guard I think I have come across before here. Both who tried to manipulate the guests which did result in some arm movement but nothing like the distinctive movements of the first group.

Once again this was an interesting ghost hunt and we look forward to returning later in the year

Theatre Royal ghost hunt – 23rd May 2015

Wednesday, May 27th, 2015

Theatre Royal ghost hunt 23rd May 2015
Margate, Kent

As a team we always look forward to our events at the Theatre Royal, as we can only visit a couple of times a year due to the venue being used until late at night. However whilst we don’t meet the same spirits we do usually have a good night and have plenty of things to write about.

As always all the guests were split into three smaller groups and each group headed off with a different team member. My area for the night was underneath the stage, which I have used on previous ghost hunts.

The first spirit that I encountered looked like a very serious gentleman about six foot in height and of a slim build aged in his mid to late 50s, notably sporting a well-groomed yet thin beard, wearing a grey three piece evening suit and top hat. This gentleman did not tell me his name but during the course of the evening he told me that he was a doctor who had a summer residence in Margate. This gent was from the 1900’s approximately.

All groups of guests were moved by this spirit sometimes he would be able to push and pull everyone in the group, other times it would only be a few chosen people. The first group everyone was moved and touched within the group when asked to be moved by the spirit and many times people were pushed or pulled to the floor or towards the direction of the theatre. The second and third groups the level of movement was less than the first group but it still affected everyone in the group. Many guests were pulled by their arms to the floor whilst others were lifted towards the ceiling.

There was also a female spirit who I first heard the shuffle of a dress, or more of a “swish” of a dress in the first session. This lady had some affinity with guests who were sisters or those guests who were related to each other, as we had several guests in each group who were related activity centred around them. Some of this activity became unwelcome and our séances had to be stopped to avoid the spirit from inflicting their anguish on the guests.

Many guests also smelt different aromas not associated with the building and some described it as “old perfume” or similar to a sweet tobacco. Since I didn’t smell it I cannot describe the smell.

After our three controlled sessions we allowed the guests to venture off on their own with our ghost hunting equipment to hold their own style ghost hunt or to experience parts of the theatre that the public never see or visit. Many guests reported strange sensations and feelings although a few had some unusual photographs.

This was another enjoyable ghost hunt with lots of paranormal activity felt and sensed by the guests and we look forward to returning to the Theatre Royal in August 2015.

Explosion Museum ghost hunt – 9th May 2015

Wednesday, May 27th, 2015

Explosion Museum ghost hunt 9th May 2015
Gosport, Hampshire

This was our second visit to the museum and considering the time of year we had planned to use different buildings as it is light later in the evening. However some of the team who came in February wanted to use the same rooms and buildings.

I chose a building called C-Mag (Magazine).

This is one of the older parts of the museum and this magazine felt interesting. A magazines room is where gunpowder or ammunition would have been kept.

Both sessions we were joined by a male spirit called Chester who was a Navy man aged in his early 30s and quite a stern type of person from Second World War era. Chester wasn’t a talkative spirit although he did oblige when asked by the guests.

Chester was able to move the majority of people’s arms and push and pull people. Some of the movements were very gentle when moving the ladies whilst other times very forceful but this only affected the men. The arm movement was on command and the pushing and pulling back only happened to a few people, usually when they least expected it!

On several occasions a few people would be pulled to the floor by their hands and arms, this was also unexpected but not forceful, it was just like a heavy weight being applied to the shoulders, which in turn made each person slowly kneel down.

In the first session at various times we called out for spirit to repeat sounds that we were making, on one or two occasions we heard a whistle back, or a knock. All of these sounded like they came from an adjacent building although this was strange because there is no adjacent building!

In the second session although we asked several times nothing unusual was heard.

This was another excellent ghost hunt with all the guests having some form of paranormal experiences in one of their sessions.

Fort Borstal ghost hunt – 2nd May 2015

Wednesday, May 27th, 2015

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 2nd May 2015
Rochester, Kent

This event was a little unusual since there were less guests than we are used to. So each team member held a session in different parts of the fort doing different activities so the guests had a normal ghost hunt.

The first session was a table tilting and Ouija board session in the Caponier where there was a male spirit called Cecil who was severely burned along his right side that affected his face, arm and leg. Cecil was responsible for the table being twisted and “walked” around part of the Caponier.

There was also a female spirit present; Annabelle who was a cook from the Second World War era she was trying to communicate via the Ouija board.

The second session was my séance session held in the Counterscarp Galleries. We were joined by a spirit who I have encountered before, his name is Bernard although he prefers the nickname Biffa. Guests were pushed, swayed and had their arms moved but only when I was near to them, not just the people either side of me but the people next to them, so I had to move around the circle for everyone to feel these movements.

There were different spirits watching (although not interacting) us than on previous visits, although these spirit may join us again or it may have been a one off.

Towards the end of the session some guests were shaking because they were cold whilst other guests were extremely warm and some guests felt cold on one side and heat on the other side of their bodies with several people having one cold hand and one warm hand. There didn’t seem to be a logical reason for this as it wasn’t a cold night and the Counterscarp galleries are sealed from the outside air.

The guests then went to participate in a tech and gadget session in the old Cartridge Stores.

After the controlled sessions the guests participated in their own style ghost hunt as we allowed them to visit any part of the fort that they had used in our controlled sessions to hold their own ghost hunt or to hold their own vigil. During this time we let the guests use our equipment.

Whilst this was not a usual ghost hunt, many guests had an excellent ghost hunt and had a paranormal encounter that they could not explain or something that they hadn’t experienced before.

Rye Castle ghost hunt – 25th April 2015

Wednesday, May 27th, 2015

Rye Castle (Ypres Tower) ghost hunt 25th April 2015
Rye, East Sussex

Given that this event was our first at Rye Castle for 2015, we were very keen to see if it were comparable with previous visits. If anything it is more active now than it used to be but now the improvements and building work have finished for the time being and maybe the spirits are happy with that.

As with all our events I like to vary the types of things we do in each group, so this time around we had three sessions for the guests to participate in, one with me holding séances, one with Wayne & Paula holding a tech session and another Kym in the Woman’s Tower.

Upstairs of the Keep I held the séances sessions and we were joined by Godfrey, a 56 year old portly gentleman wearing a three piece suit who repeatedly jingled the money in his pockets to inform people that he was rich. Godfrey was from the 1830s.

There was also another male spirit called Freddie who appeared from time to time. Freddy was a more modern spirit as he was dressed in a more modern fashion of just an open necked shirt and plain/grey trousers, aged in his early 20s.

Many of the guests in the first group felt their arms and hands being moved by the spirits and being pushed and pulled to the floor and the circle being pulled and twisted towards the cell that has the graffiti. I moved the least as people seemed to move around me, with those opposite me being moved more often.

During this session we all heard what we thought was the main door to the keep being closed or slammed. Considering the outside gate was locked and the other group were in the lower ground floor of the keep it was a bit unnerving, so Ted (Rye Museum custodian) went to investigate. He found nothing out of place or unusual.

Many guests saw a face on the headless mannequin or thought they saw a face at the window, this wasn’t a person as we were on the first floor and about 20 feet above ground level!

Also whilst standing in a particular spot near the window many guests felt the unfathomable experience of being “sucked” into the wall.

Odd lights and strange noises were heard as the session continued, but none of these had any obvious or explainable answer at the time. We will have to see if they happen at future events at Rye Castle.

The second group didn’t get anything like the activity of the first group because either they didn’t encourage the spirit to do anything or just took the mickey out of the spirit. Godfrey was present but became disinterested and left. After 40 minutes I ended this session as it was pointless continuing.

After we finished our controlled sessions the guests were allowed to investigate on their own and use our ghost hunting equipment. Many went back to the Women’s Tower or sat quietly in the keep to see if spirit would interact with them. Some interesting photos were taken by guests and some felt spirits presence.

Once again another interesting ghost hunt with lots of guests feeling and sensing spiritual and paranormal activity.

Red Lion Hotel ghost hunt – 18th April 2015

Friday, May 15th, 2015

Red Lion Hotel ghost hunt 18th April 2015
Colchester, Essex

This was our second investigation in Colchester of the week as we had been at The Town Hall the night before and were hoping that the spirits would make themselves known in the Hotel.

We split everyone into 4 groups and each group headed off to a different area with different team members. I chose the cellar as always because some things happen here which do not happen anywhere else in the hotel.

There was only really one spirit in the cellar, his name was Michael and he was a Dray man (he delivered ale and beer from the local brewery). He fell to his death at The Red Lion hotel (although it wasn’t called that then) in 1833 by falling down the keg drop and breaking his neck.

This wasn’t the only spirit that made an appearance although Michael was the most prominent or the strongest energy. There were also other male spirits who lurked in the background and a couple of female spirits who made themselves known to different people.

All but the last group to the cellar there was lots of arm movement on command, with the arms of people being lifted when they thought nothing was going to happen to them, people being pushed and swayed on their feet much to their surprise and amazement. Some of the guests saw what they thought were people lurking in the shadows, or people watching them.

Plus every so often one of the grates of the keg drop is loose so when people on the high street walked on it, it made a very loud bang. This didn’t help with people’s nerves, especially when they were standing closer to it!

There were also many strange noises and whispers heard by some people but not everyone, although those that heard the sounds could not always say in which direction the sound came from.

In the second group there was a male guest who said that he felt petrified, he didn’t know why but he was afraid of something, this was apparently very uncharacteristic of him as he usually wasn’t scared of anything. After the session had ended he went outside and when he came back in he felt fine.

The last group didn’t want to be moved and every time someone walked on the grate several people screamed and jumped. However another male guest in this group during the course of the séance started acting in an aggressive manner and when I looked at him he didn’t look himself and looked very angry and had the face of someone who wanted to fight. He also reported that he felt very cold and at one point unable to stand properly. I felt that had the conditions have been right he (the guest) would have gone into a trance to allow the spirit to talk, however I also felt that it wasn’t safe to do so. After I placed this guest in the centre of the circle he regained his normal look and stance and told me what he felt, although he didn’t know why he felt so aggressive.

We have held numerous ghost hunts at the Red Lion Hotel and I have held many séances in the cellar, but never has a person felt aggressive for no reason or been affected by spirit in this way, let alone two people in different groups behaving in similar ways.

Once again a very enjoyable ghost hunt that many people had paranormal encounters and experiences that they weren’t expecting.
