Event Showcase: Slough Fort
https://www.ghosthuntevents.co.uk/slough-fort.php

History of Slough Fort
Slough Fort, Allhallows, Kent is a small artillery fort that was built in the north of the Hoo Peninsula in Kent. Constructed in 1867, the D-shaped fort was intended to guard a vulnerable stretch of the River Thames against possible enemy landings during a period of tension with France. Its seven casemates initially accommodated rifled breech loading guns, which were replaced by the turn of the century by more powerful breech-loaders on disappearing carriages, mounted in concrete wing batteries on either side of the fort. It was likely one of the smallest of the forts constructed as a result of the 1860s invasion scare.

All of the guns were removed by 1912, though the fort continued in use during the First World War as a command post. It was decommissioned in 1920 and sold off in 1929 and converted into a small zoo. Before the Second World War; it was used as an observation post from 1938, became part of the local anti-invasion system in 1939-40 and was used as part of the air defence network against V-1 flying bombs in 1944. There was partial restoration in 2012-13 that uncovered previously buried features of the fort.

Ghost Hunting
We have been investigating #SloughFort since April 2019 and have witnessed; disembodied voices, laughing and other noises in the fort and in the magazine, footsteps on the upper level, table tilting which has been out of this world in the main part of the fort.

Our favourite rooms in the fort are; the cells (brig) for strange feelings and great séance activity, the courtyard of the fort for table tilting and EVP’s. The magazine rooms have also been good with tech, gadgets and EVP’s although noise travels here so a small group is ideal.

Event Showcase: Nothe Fort

http://www.ghosthuntevents.co.uk/nothe-fort.php
History of Nothe Fort
Nothe Fort was built in 1872 to protect Portland’s harbour, which was then becoming an important Royal Navy base. The fort played an important role in World War II, when the harbour was used as base by the British and American Navy.

In 1956, the fort was abandoned, and in 1961 it was purchased by the local council. It is now a museum and tourist attraction.

Nothe Fort has always had a legendary ghostly whistling gunner and many people claim to have heard his eerie whistling in the Fort’s extensive underground passageways.

Ghost Hunting
We have been investigating #NotheFort since November 2012 and our very first investigation we probably had one of the best piece of evidence you could wish for; a footprint (male about size 7) materialised in front of our eyes when someone asked to see the spirits footprints. He meant to have asked to hear the spirits footsteps, but in the heat of the moment asked the wrong question!

We have also heard disembodied whispers, voices, coughs, whistles and spoken sentences.

Our favourite areas are; The Engine room for table tilting and ouija boards, the tunnel complex for EVP’s and gadgets, the caponier for shear spookiness and strange feelings, plus spoken voices heard when holding séances (the caponier is not currently used due to health & safety measures). The Barbican is an interesting area which is immediately above the entrance gate, now home to pigeons and spiders, but that’s not what makes it spooky! Others areas which we find interesting are the whistling tunnel and some of the magazine/cartridge rooms and what is now The Blacksmiths Shop.
Of all the forts that we visit (both now and in the past) Nothe Fort remains one of the best preserved Forts in the UK with a lot of the original features that make up this Fort.

Newhaven Fort – 18th March 2017 – Steve

Newhaven Fort ghost hunt 18th March 2017
Newhaven, East Sussex

Newhaven Fort is a new venue for us in 2017, and after a site visit back in January I was really looking forward to the event itself.

I started both my sessions in the Laboratory, in both sessions we were joined by spirit, the strongest spirit was a chap called Stanley, a Second World War soldier aged in his mid-40s who could lift peoples’ hands and arms, push people and pull people backward off their feet.

The second session the spirits were less forthcoming but nevertheless they were still able to move us.
After both sessions, I asked everyone to think of a question to ask spirit and recorded their questions and a gap after each question for spirit to respond in the hope of recording a spirit voice (a.k.a. EVP – Electronic Voice Phenomena). At the time of writing, the audio files are still being analysed.

After the second session, I asked questions via a spirit box in the hope of hearing a spirit voice but unfortunately none were forthcoming.

The East Bastion and Caponier were strange places to be and many guests wandered (quite quickly!) through them, on several occasions footsteps and other noises we heard behind the person exploring and whilst this area is known for ghostly whistles, none were heard.

We are looking forward to our return to this fort in October 2017.

Fort Borstal – 12th November 2016 – Kym

Monday, January 23rd, 2017

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 12th November 2016
Rochester, Kent

Very atmospheric tonight with low mist on this dark night, making the fort look just that little bit more spooky.  We started with our first groups with Sean doing Kit in the Counterscarp Gallery, and myself doing Ouija and Glass Work in the Cartridge Store.  In Sean’s sessions they noticed a blue halo around the Edi Meter, and white flashes in the corner of a room, and the pendulums were very active with guests enjoying how fast they were rotating, and changing direction when requesting.  In my first sessions with glass work and ouija we spoke to a female aged over 50 in the 1940′ or 1960’s, did not like men, had possibly been raped and had a child.  She had not passed over as she still visits her daughter and grand-children.  She lived in Rochester when alive.  Her name was Ellie (short for Eleanor) and had committed suicide here at the fort.  We were feeling like we were being touched, and hearing unexplained noises.  We did finish with a glass work session near the entrance, and the spirit with us said he was Sergeant Andrews.  His energy was incredibly strong and said he would join us later.

With our next sessions Sean was doing Table Tipping in the Caponier, and I was in the Officers Mess doing a Séance Circle and Human Pendulum.  In Sean’s sessions the Table Tipping was incredible with the table tipping, spinning and walking around the room.  They did have an odd smell of fruit, saw a mist and heard a scurry on the floor – no animals located!  They did also tap on the table and heard taps back twice.  With myself we had some movement in the séance circle’s, and felt coldness and tingles on our hands when being moved,  but had more results from the pendulums.  We had Sergeant Andrews with us again, he had been killed in battle on the Somme by a German soldier, and did not have a grave.  He was not married and had no children.  He liked both men and women.  We also had the spirit of a woman who had worked at the fort as a chef.  She had been hurt by Sgt Andrews, and had hung herself.  We asked if she had a message for us – yes – “Be aware of men!”

Fort Amherst – 20th May 2016 – Kym

Friday, July 8th, 2016

Fort Amherst ghost hunt 20th May 2016
Chatham, Kent

fort-amherst-1

Area: Upper Gun Floor

Ouija & Table Tipping, Dowsing Rods, Pendulums & Human Pendulum
We started with half the group on Ouija, and the other half on Table Tipping.  We had slight movement on both.  We then tried the Human Pendulum and had the spirit of a male soldier step forward.  He had passed in his 20’s from a head injury.  His wife was also with us.  One of the guests had his name as Archibald.  He had murdered someone, for stealing his money.  He was happily married, who then stepped forward, her name was Elizabeth.  We did try the table tipping again and had a lot of rocking but no more.  We then used the dowsing rods & pendulums, and guests enjoyed exploring and communicating with the spirits.

With my second group again we started with table tipping and had some rocking, one more than another with a lot of spins, rocking and walking across the room to where the spirit was standing, after hearing noises from that area.  We then all tried the very large table and was able to get a lot of movement, rocking rapidly, tipping up and holding to one side when asked.  Two guests at one end of the table both had blowing in their ears at the same time.  Jenny (guest) kept feeling like someone was pulling on her trousers.  We tried the Ouija and had the spirit of Edgar, from 1943 aged 23.  He was pushed down the stairs here in this room and died of a head injury.  The man that pushed him was having an affair with his wife.  People have experienced being pushed on these stairs.  Was this the reason why?  His wife Charlotte who was a nurse, had tried to make him better.  Others were using the rods & pendulums to communicate with the spirits, a male spirit confirmed he was the one that had moved the large table.

With my last group we had a little movement on the Ouija & table tipping, but not enough to communicate.  Tried the large table and had some gently rocking.  Used the rods & pendulums for a short while, but everyone wanted to try the human pendulum.  We had a spirit come through that had known Mark (guest).  He was able to communicate with him.
In the free session I joined Mark and his family in the Salle Port, we started with table tipping and had some slight movement.  We then switched to glass work, and with a yes & no established communicated with the spirit with us.  We were hearing noises around us, and did hear and feel a breath.
A great night at Fort Amherst again!

Fort Amherst – 20th May 2016 – Steve

Fort Amherst ghost hunt 20th May 2016
Chatham, Kent

fort-amherst-003

Fort Amherst is one of our favourite venues as there is never a dull moment during the event. It is also one of the spookiest as long tunnels and underground rooms often are.

During the séance sessions that I held we were joined by a spirit called Christopher who was aged in his late 30s and an Army Sergeant from the Second World War era.

Whilst Christopher was able to push and manipulate people we also heard a lot of strange noises, doors banging and footsteps. This was all very odd as there wasn’t a slight breeze outside let alone a strong wind to slam a door.

During the final séance session many of the group, including me had numb or tingling toes. What this meant or what it was supposed to mean is unknown, maybe we’ll find out on a return visit to Fort Amherst later this year.

This was another excellent ghost hunt at the Fort with lots of paranormal activity felt and experienced by the guests.

Landguard Fort – 6th November 2015 (Louise)

Tuesday, January 12th, 2016

Landguard Fort ghost hunt 6th November 2015
Felixstowe, Suffolk

landguard-fort

Area: School Room
Equipment: Ouija/Table tipping

Session 1 – Group B
We started the session with table tipping. Initially the table slowly rocked from side to side. Asking the group to all encourage spirit to move the table more or in some other way it tipped up on to one leg and slowly rotated clockwise. The table then began to walk to on several occasions to a desk that was in the room and stop at this point. Steve (guest) had a K2 metre that lit up from green to red very quickly and held it on the red light. Asking the guests if any of them had their mobile phones switched on as these can interfere with the equipment, they all said no. However, the K2 would only go off in that certain area of the room that the table kept walking to.
We then moved on to the Ouija board as I asked spirit through the table if they would communicate through the board and it tilted the table for the yes position asked by the group. The glass moved straight away moving the glass very quickly in a circle around the table. The spirit then went on to say she was a female spirit by the name of Isabel, 19 years old and married to John who worked at the Fort. During this session we managed to find out that Isabel had two children called James and Sarah and she died during childbirth. She then went on to tell us that her surname was Suttoz and her husband was Austrian and died in 1936. At this point the glass started spinning very fast around the table and a loud bang was heard by all the guests in the corner of the room. I asked spirit to make the noise again and it did so straight away much to the amazement of the guests.

Session 2 – Group C
I began the session by splitting the group into two smaller groups. Some of the guests had done Ouija before and felt comfortable to make a start. I however stayed with them until the glass started to move. Asking spirit to stay on the board I then started the other group on the table tipping. All the guests started to encourage spirit to come and move the table. It immediately started to move tipping, rocking and spinning making it hard for the guests to keep up with the fast movements. Once the table had settled we asked spirit if they could communicate by tipping the table right for a yes answer and left for a no answer. One of the guests asked if we were in the presence of a male spirit to which the table with some force tipped to the right.  Back on the Ouija the group had contacted a spirit called Tom who said he was moving the table. He also went on to say that he died whilst building the Fort. The glass then went to goodbye and another spirit came through. The spirit went on to tell us her name was Elizabeth and she was 19 years old. She then told us that she was kidnapped while fishing for her family and brought to the Fort and was beaten and raped by her brother who worked at the Fort and died at the age of 25 years of her beatings. The glass then took us all by surprise and very quickly spelt out the name Ray. Ray was the name of one of the guests on the table who had seemed to have gone in a trance like state. The spirit went on to tell us her name was Edna and she was 78. Still in a trance like state Ray said that’s the name of my Mum. I asked Ray if he was comfortable to carry on to which he replied yes. Rays Son Luke (guest) asked if Edna had a message for Ray. She went on to say that she was sorry for dying and that she loved him. At this point Ray had come out of his trance and became very emotional and had to leave the room.

Session 3 – Group A
I started this session on the Ouija board. I was joined by guests Kelly, Steven, Louie and Jan. Initially the glass took some time to move even with the encouragement from the guests. However, after some time we were joined on the table by a spirit called Trevor who said he as born in 1897 and died in an accident. Asking Trevor if possible he could tell us, he went on to say that he was cleaning his gun when it accidentally fired killing him and his friend called Geoff in 1943.
Trevor then said goodbye and we were joined by another spirit by the name of Thomas. He went on to say that he was murdered by his friend Tim whilst on duty. He had a wife called Elizabeth who is still alive today. He said he was confused but his mum and dad are with him but misses Elizabeth as she was a nurse and she tried to save him but he later died from his wounds. The glass on the table begun to move very erratically and very quickly spelt out the name Tim. Tim went onto to say that he was angry with Thomas and that they were never friends as he did bad things and that is why he murdered him. Tim went on to say that his regiment was the Lance Corps, he loved being the joker and always made people laugh. Even today he said that he still makes noises to try and scare people. When asked if he could make a noise for us to prove he was there, a loud sudden bang came from the corner of the room. Asking Tim if that was him could he do it again please another bang came from just behind where we were all sitting.

Really active night enjoyed by myself and the guests. Can’t wait to return

Fort Amherst – 11th December 2015 (Kerry)

Fort Amherst ghost hunt 11th December 2015
Chatham, Kent

fort-amherst-1

The Radio Room – Ouija, table tilting

We began this session by trying some table tilting, and for quite a long time, nothing happened but eventually the table started to rock gently, and after a while it tilted up on two legs. After much encouragement for spirit to do more with the table, it still was not responding very well, so I decided to move on to the Ouija. First of all, we were joined by a female spirit by the name of Wendy who was from 1885, and was 62-years-old. She seemed happy to communicate and told us that there were 6 spirits in the room with us including herself, but that not all of them were friendly. When we asked if she knew any of the other spirits, she replied no. The glass then stopped moving and we realised she had left us, but we were then joined by a male spirit called Timothy. Interestingly, our medium Steve had seen a spirit called Timothy in the same room during the previous session. Timothy then went on to tell us that he had been shot during the war in 1945, he was never married and had no children. One of the guests asked if he was happy that we were there and he replied yes. We asked if he had a message for us, to which he spelt out “say goodbye”. When asked if he wanted to say goodbye to someone who was still living, he responded with yes, and proceeded to tell us that he wanted to say goodbye to his sister, Ruth. He told us that he is always at the fort and likes being there. We also had a lot of responses on the ghost pro which was corresponding to the responses on the Ouija board.

Unfortunately, in the second session we had no movement on the Ouija after several attempts at asking spirit to join us, so we tried some table tilting. It was slow to start with but the table did start to rock and tilt, and eventually we had some random spins, which the guests enjoyed. Spirit also walked the table a little.

Fort Borstal – 13th November 2015 (Kym)

Tuesday, January 12th, 2016

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 13th November 2015
Rochester, Kent

fort-borstal-front

With my group tonight I was doing the Human Pendulum, and the first spirit that joined us was a female spirit who had worked here at the fort in the Second World War.  Her husband was also stationed here, who was with her in spirit.  They had both passed away from old age.

The next spirit that joined us was a male friend of the previous female spirit, and he shared some details of his life here at the fort.

The final spirit that joined us was a female, however had wanted to be a man, to give her the opportunity for better employment.  She initially said she had joined the marines, but also said yes to being in the navy and a fisherman.  She said she was from the 1700’s and had passed before she was twenty.  The guest standing in the middle was Anita, and when we stopped she had been hearing an old war song in her head, with the name Polly in it.  To myself and Louise’s (team) surprise we had both had the name Polly in our head throughout.  Was this the name of the spirit, or did she just like singing that song.  We asked the spirit to join us in the Ouija session, so we could find out some more details about her.

We also wanted to try an experiment, I wrote a word in my notepad, and asked spirit to copy this word on the Ouija when asked.  This word was not shown to anyone.  However, when we did ask spirit to copy this word later on, with the spirits confirming they knew the word, they were unable to copy it on the Ouija until we had asked several times, and re-shown the word to spirit.

Also, throughout the pendulum session we were all hearing noises and footsteps around us, and some guests felt like they were being touched.

Landguard Fort – 6th November 2015 (Kym)

Tuesday, January 12th, 2016

Landguard Fort ghost hunt 6th November 2015
Felixstowe, Suffolk

landguard-fort

Area: Guard House
Landguard Fort is one of my favourite venues, the fort is vast, with many areas to investigate, and the presence of spirits always felt around us.  When I initially arrived I walked around, and when entering into the ground floor tunnel complex I immediately felt the presence of spirit walking with me.

I chose to work in the Guard House, doing the Human Pendulum.  With my first group we had a male spirit connected to this area, and from the 1400’s.  He was from Finland and had travelled here with his family.  His parents were smugglers and he had learnt the trade from them, including how to build his own boat.  He had met a British lady, married her and had two children.  However, they had all died at sea.  They had been selling their produce on the seas, which consisted of food and clothes bought from the mainland, when other smugglers had wanted to take his wife, and they had all perished.  The spirit gave his name of Bob, he was very tall, over 6′, and had blond hair and blue eyes.  As the guests had been here before, and encountered a male spirit in the shower room, they wanted to investigate there, so off we went.  Again we did the human pendulum, and although no male spirit was there, a female spirit they had met before joined us. She was a foreign lady, and had not committed suicide as the guests previously thought, but in fact had been pushed.  She had been seen by one of the guests before in a different room, and she wanted us to go there now, which we did.  Whilst standing in that area quietly we all heard a noise like tapping metal.  On checking, this noise could have come from pipes on the ceiling being tapped, or a chair in the next room.  Then asking for the noise again we all heard a bang on the wooden door.
With my next group, whilst communicating to spirit with the human pendulum, a female spirit joined us.  She said she was the foreign lady from earlier, and again she was pushed.  She said her name was Maria.  The next spirit that came through was female and her friend.  However, when asking a little more about them, it seemed they were not connected to the fort or the area, and both passed within the last five years, and wanted to go the light.  I had some guests in the group that were sensitive to spirit and were feeling the same, so with their help we invited the two female spirits to pass over to the light.  However, with the communication starting again with spirit, we soon realised Maria had gone over, but her friend hadn’t.  After communicating with her for a short while we helped her pass over too.  Jules (guest) could feel someone touching her shoulder, who we believed to be the male spirit that had pushed the female spirit(s).  He didn’t want to go to the light.  Starting the pendulum again, Paula (guest) to my right was still feeling incredibly upset.  Although being sensitive to spirit, she had not been able to understand her experiences, and didn’t know why she kept seeing a young girl sitting on the floor, hugging her legs, upset and not looking up.  Paula was also aware of a nun with this girl too.  We decided to communicate with the girl first before offering to help send her over.  She was in her 20’s, was in prison for doing wrong, and had starved to death.

The nun had been her friend at the convent.  The girl’s name was Josephine, and Paula could see her now looking up, and feeling happy with us trying to help her.  So we then helped Josephine go to the light, however whilst doing this we all heard a loud female whistle.

With my last group the first spirit was male who had worked here during WW2, he was an engineer who had maintained the guns.  As we had guns in the room with us, three by the door, he confirmed he had maintained the first and third one.  The second spirit was a female who had worked at the fort during WW2 as a nurse.  She had passed of old age between 1950 – 2000.  She had been married but no children, she had miscarried more than once.  She was kind enough to show me what she looked like, auburn curly hair, wearing a blue and white floral dress, medium build and possibly around 5’6″ tall.  She was riding a bicycle with a basket on the front, through open fields/countryside in Suffolk.  She was from Ipswich.  She loved coming to the fort in spirit, and liked one of the male workers here.  That person has seen and felt her here.  She gave us her name as Susan, and asked the guests to find her in the shower area.  We then had a male spirit come through, from WW1 and connected to the fort.  He had fought in the Battle of the Somme, and had died there.  Whilst talking to this spirit we all heard a female noise/giggle.
We then finished that session by all the using the dowsing rods and pendulums I had brought, and with Lynn (guest) able to use the rods very well, I took the guests to the shower area to continue communicating with Susan.  I left them there, and later they told me that after talking to Susan for a while they moved down the tunnel to the next room, but returned when they heard a lot of noise coming from that area.  On looking they saw the plastic toy rat that had been hanging on the wall/shelf was now on the floor in the next room.
Fantastic night, with such lovely guests, and all having some amazing experiences!
