Fort Borstal ghost hunt – 2nd May 2015

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 2nd May 2015
Rochester, Kent

This event was a little unusual since there were less guests than we are used to. So each team member held a session in different parts of the fort doing different activities so the guests had a normal ghost hunt.

The first session was a table tilting and Ouija board session in the Caponier where there was a male spirit called Cecil who was severely burned along his right side that affected his face, arm and leg. Cecil was responsible for the table being twisted and “walked” around part of the Caponier.

There was also a female spirit present; Annabelle who was a cook from the Second World War era she was trying to communicate via the Ouija board.

The second session was my séance session held in the Counterscarp Galleries. We were joined by a spirit who I have encountered before, his name is Bernard although he prefers the nickname Biffa. Guests were pushed, swayed and had their arms moved but only when I was near to them, not just the people either side of me but the people next to them, so I had to move around the circle for everyone to feel these movements.

There were different spirits watching (although not interacting) us than on previous visits, although these spirit may join us again or it may have been a one off.

Towards the end of the session some guests were shaking because they were cold whilst other guests were extremely warm and some guests felt cold on one side and heat on the other side of their bodies with several people having one cold hand and one warm hand. There didn’t seem to be a logical reason for this as it wasn’t a cold night and the Counterscarp galleries are sealed from the outside air.

The guests then went to participate in a tech and gadget session in the old Cartridge Stores.

After the controlled sessions the guests participated in their own style ghost hunt as we allowed them to visit any part of the fort that they had used in our controlled sessions to hold their own ghost hunt or to hold their own vigil. During this time we let the guests use our equipment.

Whilst this was not a usual ghost hunt, many guests had an excellent ghost hunt and had a paranormal encounter that they could not explain or something that they hadn’t experienced before.

Fort Horsted ghost hunt – 28-3-2015 (Kym)

Sunday, April 5th, 2015

Fort Horsted ghost hunt 28th March 2015
Chatham, Kent

Area: Hanging Room
Equipment: Ouija, Table Tipping, Writing Planchette, Dowsing Rods, Pendulums

Group C – We started with 4 guests on table tipping, and the other 4 on Ouija.  The guests on the table had worked with spirit before so immediately starting getting movement.  They asked spirit to move the table showing yes & no, and were able to identify the spirit with them.  It was a male spirit called Ned, aged 34, had been strangled at the fort, and was Saxon.  On the Ouija we didn’t get any movement, so we started using the dowsing rods & pendulums and was able to ask spirit some questions.  We then swapped the guests over.  The table did start moving slightly, but we also heard taps underneath the table.  We then switched to the writing planchette, and stating that we only had 8 minutes left, the writing planchette started moving and drew and number 8.  As we were feeling the table moving we said if this spirit was a male, surely they cannot move both, but to our surprise the planchette and table both started moving.  And again we were hearing taps underneath the table.  The other group were using the rods and were getting lots of movement.

Group A – With this group the table started tipping immediately, and it was still Ned with us.  As only slight movement on the Ouija, everyone went on the table.  After a lot of movement, the table went quiet for a short while, but as soon as I suggested we try the writing planchette, the table started moving again.  They table ‘walked’ from one end of the room the other.  We then asked spirit to take the table to where he was standing, and the table walked to the top of the stairs, where I and Tim (guest) were standing.  We asked spirit some more questions, lifting the table towards myself and Tim for yes, away for no.  Ned was from Hungary, in the 1200’s, had three sons – Thomas, Sid and Rob.  The guests were asking spirit to give this information to them in their heads, and some guests were getting the same information.  The table would lift yes/ no to confirm this.  He also had a wife called Laura who had died in childbirth.  Two guests had pain in their lower back, and spirit confirmed he had affected them.  When asked to take the pain away, their backs stopped hurting.  We finished the session with spirit moving the table rapidly around the room, spinning in many random movements, to the point with just three guests touching the table with their ‘pinkies’.

Group B – Again we had Ned with us again, moving the table immediately for the guests.  Lots of spinning, tipping and rocking.  On the Ouija we had some movement, a male spirit aged 23 with he initials EJU.  He said there were 6 spirits in the room with us.  We did try the writing planchette and this time had a lot of drawing.  Asking spirit to draw his first initial a letter N was drawn.  Asking spirit to write the number of people touching the planchette (there were five) the number 5 was drawn.  After the session had finished, one guest said he had felt a tug on his trousers when I started with the circle.  With all of us holding hands he felt surprised to have felt this.
In the free session I joined two girls with a KII & Ghost Pro in the tunnel in area 10.  We did hear footsteps walking towards us, and felt tingles on us too.  Then we joined some more guests in room 10 table tipping.  The spirit that was with us was a French male that had been in this area earlier.  He was able to answer some questions by lifting the table to show yes & no.  He had passed over between 50 – 100 years ago, of natural causes aged over 50.  He had fought in WW2.  He was not connected to the fort, but his wife had worked here.  He was unhappy because his wife had an affair, and had a child with this man.  Although being unhappy he still felt happy to be here with us, and was able to move the table a lot.  We asked if he could make a noise that we could here, and we heard a whistle in the room.  We asked again and there was a whistle heard in the corridor.  We asked again as some guests were still unsure if they had heard it, and everyone heard a whistle again next to us.  Three female guests wanted to visit the new area above us, whilst the rest of us returned to base.  When these guests returned they said as they had been leaving the tunnel in the new area they heard a very loud female scream in the tunnel.  They stopped and started to return to the tunnel, but on hearing the scream again, decided not to go any further.

Would definitely like to check out that area when we return.

Fort Borstal 30th August 2014 – Paranormal Investigator Kym

Tuesday, November 11th, 2014

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 30th August 2014
Rochester, Kent

Area: The Cartridge Stores
Equipment: KII’s, Ghost Pro’s, Dowsing Rods, Pendulums, Ouija

Group A  – Tonight I was lucky enough to be in a new area, and with my first group we started with using the pendulums.  Everyone started receiving movement, and once they had established their yes/no answers we asked the spirits questions.  Various spirits joined us, male & female, old and young, we had 9 spirits with us in total.
We then tried using the Ouija table and after a short while the glass started moving.  However after about 20 minutes of random words coming through, it seemed the spirits were staying with us briefly, then changing over.  We did notice the table creaking a lot from the frame underneath throughout.

Group B – With my second group again we started with the pendulums, and guests were able to ask the spirits questions about who they were.  We had similar responses to the first group.  We did then try the Ouija table, but only received one slight movement when just two people touching.  Again the table was creaking underneath.  We did then spend sometime on the Gun Emplacement area above, and some guests kept seeing a white shadow.  When we returned downstairs to return equipment to our room, two guests heard an unusual noise, growl/stomach noise.
Free Session – I joined most of the guests back in the cartridge stores as they had been trying to get some glass movement.  Again we had some slight movement, but as the table kept creaking underneath, we tried some table tipping.  However the table only lifted up once.
Interesting area, and one I look forward to returning again.

Fort Borstal ghost hunt – 21-6-2014

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 21st June 2014
Rochester, Kent

This was a combined ghost hunt and paranormal investigation night and we had set up six of our cameras so that the whole of the Officer’s Mess could be monitored from one room, the object of the night was for one group of guests to investigate the Officer Mess rooms whilst another group watch them and see if any paranormal activity occurred.

Whilst two groups were investigating the Officers Mess the other two groups of guests would be engaged in ghost hunt sessions, with one group table tilting and trying communication in the Caponier and another group in the Counterscarp galleries engrossed with séances.

I joined the first group in the Counterscarp Galleries where Jo was starting the séance as the second camera operator, there were two spirits, one a familiar male spirit who is called Captain Daniel Bedford and another prisoner spirit called Munro who I have never seen before. Both spirit energies were able to lift the arms of the guests and pull them backwards and forwards and even pull them to the floor by pushing their knees and pulling their arms down.

The second session I joined Kerry in the Caponier who was trying to get the spirit to communicate via Ouija board and glass movements or table tilting. Kerry’s first session the spirit were reluctant to move anything however the Ouija board started promisingly but didn’t last long. I then suggested that the two tables were placed in the corridor with half the guests on each table and I would try to start one table and Kerry on the other. Eventually a spirit was able to move the tables, which started with Kerry’s table first and whilst they were being spun around our table started to rock and wobble. It took a while but eventually the spirit managed to lift the table. Many times though this seemed to only want to move in one direction; towards the floor. After some encouragement from the guests the spirit did start to obey the instructions and eventually we had two tables being moved and twisted and turned in the corridor to the Caponier.

For the two final sessions I held my normal séances in the Counterscarp Gallery.

The first group we were joined by Captain Daniel Bedford again and he was able to lift all of the guests arms on command and once he moved all the guests he quickly moved on to pushing people, which I had requested. Many of the guests found this fascinating because they could feel that I was not manipulating their hands as I was barely touching them yet they were being pulled backwards or forwards and their arms were being stretched and pulled in all directions.

Jason (GHE Camera) then suggested that the spirit pull us to the floor, the guests liked the idea of this and asked as well and within a few minutes several people could feel pressure on their shoulders, backs and knees and then one by one we were all being pushed to the floor. This started as a gentle manoeuvre but once the spirit had pushed everyone down he continued to move people on the floor or used other people’s arms to push them further to the floor. This continued until everyone had been pushed to the floor and against the walls.

The final group to the Counterscarp gallery we had some gentle arm movement but nothing of the calibre of the previous group because none of the guests asked to be moved in any way. The only exception was the guest standing to my right who was pulled and pushed until his back was against the wall, but he was the only person who was moved in this way.

After these controlled sessions the guests were allowed to explore the areas of the fort that they enjoyed during our controlled sessions.

I joined the majority of the guests who were in the Caponier participating in a human pendulum experiment.

All in all this was a very enjoyable ghost hunt and paranormal investigation where the majority of the guests had some form of paranormal encounter or something happen to them that defied logic and gravity or was just unexplainable.

Fort Horsted ghost hunt – 14-6-2014

Wednesday, July 9th, 2014

Fort Horsted ghost hunt 14th June 2014
Chatham, Kent

Fort Horsted is one of our “special places” as we have held numerous ghost hunts here over the past three years, we have had many paranormal anomalies happen to use and our guests and every time we hold a ghost hunt here something memorable happens to some of the guests. This particular ghost hunt was no different although the most interesting thing happened in the last 20 minutes of our event.

Our event here on this particular date had less people than we are accustomed to, probably because it was England’s first World Cup football match. Nevertheless there were three groups.

The first group headed towards one of my favourite areas of the fort, this was a former magazine room at the far end of the fort and is the furthest away from all the other groups.

Here we met Thomas, aged in his early 60s and from the late 1960s era. Thomas seemed to be dressed as a handyman would have in that period of time. Thomas was a stocky built man with mostly a bald head.

I asked that Thomas move us in some way and this resulted in some of the guests arms being lifted and generally moved on their command. We also often heard footfalls and the sounds of people approaching us but as normal (we often hear these types of noises here) no-one arrived or entered the room.

The second group to this room had a much more productive session, with lots of arm movements, sometimes these were interlocked with each other or pulled to the floor. Thomas was still present and responsible for the movements.

We were also joined by a nurse called Alice who also assisted in moving people in various ways.

The third group also felt their arm moved, although this was not as exceptional as the second group although when we moved up to a room on the ramparts some very unusual and odd noises were heard. These noises sounded like someone walking across carpet, which is really strange because there is no carpet in the fort and there never would have been any.

In the free session is where the majority of the odd and unusual noises were heard as I had just taken a group down to the Counterscarp gallery and as soon as I got back to our base room, two guests asked if they could go to the same place. This is a physical place to get to as there are 90 steps to get there and 90 to get back!

Nevertheless I took these two guests down to see the Counterscarp Gallery as it is really interesting and the most secluded part of the fort. As we were walking between the right and left galleries we all heard strange breathing sounds and when I tapped on the railings we heard a clear response. If that wasn’t enough, we heard a mumbled conversation, women talking and a low or deep man’s voice. None of these noises could be explained because we were the only people in this part of the fort and not only that but we were also the last three people within the fort as all other guests had either left or were waiting with the rest of my team in the base room which is near the entrance to the fort.

All in all this was another successful ghost hunt that had an air of mystery about the place with activity happening just as we were supposed to be leaving and something else for us to investigate on our next visit.

Fort Borstal ghost hunt – 18-4-2014

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 18th April 2014
Rochester, Kent

This particular venue is a favourite with many of our team, the reason behind this is that we now know what areas of the Fort are the most active and can more or less guarantee some form of paranormal activity when in those particular areas. We look forward to every visit because this fort is very active, very haunted and although we know what to expect, we still get surprised by what happens to the guests.

As always I choose to hold my sessions in the Counterscarp galleries, not only is the area very interesting as it involves walking through a very long tunnel, but it is also the most physically demanding as the staircase goes underneath the dry moat. The level of activity here changes from one investigation to another although there are always similar experiences felt by the guests.

The first group we encountered a male spirit who I have met before in this particular part of the Fort. His name is Biffa or Bernard to his mum, aged in his 30s and another spirit called Justin, both it seems were prisoners who were put to work to build the fort in the late 1800s.

The séance session started with some gentle arm movement, mostly on the instructions of those who asked for it, those guests who didn’t say anything or encourage the spirit to move them remained stationary. Once those guests who were actively encouraging the spirit to move their arms they then asked for the spirit to move or push them. Within a matter of minutes several guests were being pushed, swayed or pulled backwards. Some people were also being moved in circular motions.

The second group to the Counterscarp galleries felt some movement but the majority of the guests wanted to ask questions and conduct their own ghost hunt and use their ghost hunting equipment. It transpired from their questions that the spirit that was present was also a prisoner who had murdered his mother, a dog and prostitutes of Rochester. This spirit died in prison.

On our way out several of us clearly heard footsteps behind us as we walked out of the tunnel and back to the main part of the fort.

The third group we were joined by a familiar spirit (to me) his name was Captain Daniel Bedford, a First World War soldier. Daniel started to move the hands and arms of the majority of guests which quickly transpired into twisting people’s arms together. Several times the people either side of me felt a weight in their arms which resulted in us being dragged down to the floor by our arms. Michelle (guest) said that she didn’t want to face the floor but no matter how many times she said this and resisted the sensation, she ended up on the floor!

Many people of the group were being pulled downwards by their arms, but once on the floor the movements continued and several guests and I were pulled backwards so that we were lying on the floor. This has happened before but never have so many people been involved, it was a chaotic scene with people not only on the floor but arms entwined and to the point where none of us had any idea how we could untangle ourselves and remain holding hands. The spirit however knew exactly how to untangle people, although this wasn’t a quick operation.

At the end of this séance session I conducted an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiment. The results of this will be published at a later date.

Unusually I decided to hold another séance with the intention this time of the spirit moving everyone in turn so that all the guests could feel and hopefully know that they were being moved by unseen hands rather than being pulled by someone they were holding hands with. Daniel complied with this and moved everyone in more gentle ways by pulling them backwards so that each person had to take a step back to avoid falling over. During this time and to avoid people being consciously aware that they were moving all the instructions to the spirit were asked by me as thoughts, therefore none of the guests knew who I was asking Daniel to move, the guests only knew it was them when they found themselves being moved!

At the end of our controlled sessions, we allow the guests to go to the areas that they want to, to conduct their own ghost hunt or to experience a particular area on their own. I joined a group in the Caponier during a Table Tilting & Ouija board session.

As soon as I entered the room I saw a spirit that I had not seen before. He was called Cecil, who was a well-spoken Second World War soldier who was busy moving a table at guest’s request.

I also joined in with the Ouija board which is something I don’t often do, because as I was explaining to the guests I ask questions about things I want to know the answer to, not what the spirit did when they were in a physical body nor anything to do with my life. I want to know the answers to questions which are more spiritual in nature. The spirit energy who was called Robert, another World War Two soldier answered by using the letters and numbers of the Ouija board. Below are the questions and answers.

Q: What colour is the sky in the spirit world?
A: Red.
Q: How many levels of the spirit world exist to your knowledge?
A: 3
Q: What is the largest animal in the spirit world?
A: Oup, a whale

After asking these I then asked the spirit to use the numbers as a scale of difficulty (0-9) for different activities that we ask of all spirit.
Glass work = 3, EVP = 7, Table tilting = 8, Ouija board = 3 or 4, Séances = 9, Manifestation or moving inanimate objects = 99

This was an excellent ghost hunt, with lots of people feeling, sensing and experiencing paranormal activity first hand and participating in paranormal experiments that they had not encountered before.

Fort Horsted ghost hunt – 22-3-2014 (Kym)

Friday, April 4th, 2014

Fort Horsted ghost hunt 22nd March 2014
Chatham, Kent

Area: 10 Equipment: KII’s, Ghost Pro’s, Dowsing Rods, Pendulums, Writing Planchette

Group B  – Kerry (team) joined me on my first session and we started with explaining to guests how to use the pendulums and dowsing rods.  Almost immediately we had movement on all, and the guests were able to establish their yes & no’s, which they enjoyed immensely asking questions to spirit.  I then suggested we split the group so three girls joined Kerry on the writing planchette whilst I took the remaining five guests into the opposite room.  We continued using the pendulums, but also used the ghost pro.  We then re-joined the others as they were experiencing a lot of movement with the writing, and some other guests joined in.  As all the writing received seemed to be random, we turned the paper over and asked spirit to write the initial of one of the persons present.  Immediately we had the letter J – and Julie (guest) was very surprised.  We then asked for another initial of a guest, and to Calum’s surprise a C was drawn.  We then joined everyone else in the tunnel, and some guests could smell burning, and another guest felt a touch on her back.

Group C – I was joined by Carl (team) on my second session who was filming for us.  After handing out the rods & pendulums we received movement with them.  Then we tried the writing planchette again.  Although we had movement, not as much as before, it was just random squiggles.  Whilst standing around the table one guest felt a touch on her back.  I took three guests into the opposite room with ghost pro, explained how to use it, and once they had contact with spirit they went to explore the tunnel.  Carl started feeling unwell so he left the area.  The remaining three guests returned and tried the planchette, whilst the others went to explore the tunnel.  One of the guests could feel the energy behind her and had the name Victor in her head, and asking spirit if that was his name we started to get movement on the writing planchette.  With no more movement I placed a ghost pro on the table, and one of the guests was sure she saw it move.  I said it was possible as I recalled an incident in that room many months before when I had placed a camera on the table and we all had seen it move.  The five guests then returned from the tunnel and said that two of them had been touched on the back of knee within 4 minutes of each.

Group A – With my last group, all four ladies were showing an enormous fear of the spiders in that area.  We entered very slowly, pointing out where not to stand, and everyone felt comfortable to enter one of the rooms.  I handed out the rods & pendulums and all received some movement.  One guest in particular who had used the rods before was able to ask spirit yes & no questions from the start.  We had a male soldier with us, and when asking if he would join us on the table with the writing planchette, he answered yes.  Whilst asking spirit to move the planchette we could hear the table creaking underneath.  With fingers on the planchette and a hand on table, we could feel gently rocking on both.  We then all took a break and one of the guests asked spirit to copy her whistle, and we all heard what sounded like a female whistle back.  As two of the guests had left the area because of her fear of the spiders, we had to check it wasn’t them, but they were standing outside and hadn’t even heard us whistle out, and had definitely not made a sound themselves.  We did ask spirit to repeat the noise but nothing.  All six of us then walked up the tunnel, and some noises and taps were heard.

I then joined Steve, Kerry & guests in area 26, and we did a séance circle.  I was holding hands with Louise (guest) to my left.  She had been reluctant to join in as before she had felt sick whilst in the circle, but I persuaded her to join in.  I started feeling a heavy weight on my left shoulder, and Steve said we had the spirit of Justin behind us.  He was very large and had been a prisoner.  I asked Justin to move the weight onto Louise’s shoulder as I didn’t want her to think I was pulling her down, and to her surprise, and my relief, the heavy weight moved to her right shoulder.  We were then pushed down to the floor, and Louise thanked spirit and asked to be moved back up.  I then suggested she ask spirit to move to her left shoulder which it did.  She then asked for spirit to move to her son Calum’s shoulder which it did.  Louise continued to ask Justin to move us in various ways, which he was very happy to oblige.  Meanwhile the remainder of people in the circle were being moved by two other spirits, and we all ended up being moved in various, and sometimes funny positions.

A great end to a memorable night!

Fort Horsted ghost hunt – 22-3-2014

Friday, April 4th, 2014

Fort Horsted ghost hunt 22nd March 2014
Chatham, Kent

This event was our first public event of the year at Fort Horsted, the week before we held a special invitation only event for our frequent customers, but since this was a public event many of the guests probably didn’t know what to expect. Fortunately we have done many ghost hunts at this Fort to know where the best areas to get ghostly activity or for the guests to experience the activity.

We usually hold three one hour sessions so that all guests can experience different parts of the fort with different team members doing different activities. So I chose the furthest area away from all the other groups; a room which is right at the edge of the fort.

We were joined quite quickly by a spirit called Philip, he was a Doctor from the 1880s and 37 years old.

When asking Philip to move us as we were standing in a séance circle James (guest) who was next to me could feel Philip’s energy and the fact that James was swaying or rather being pulled backwards, to fight this sensation James was pulling himself back upright. James found this a little unnerving to start with but like all things the more he got used to the sensation the easier it became for Philip to move him.

Whilst James was being pulled back lots of guests experienced their arms being moved and unfortunately for the people either side of me, my hands were often dragged to floor and on one occasion the letters P and O were drawn in the dust on the floor.

I asked Philip what the O stood for but didn’t get a response.

As the guests all got used to the sensation Philip was able to move more and more people until everyone had been moved in some way. A few times we all heard the sound of a children’s toy, it sounded like a toy train and immediately after this we all heard a stone being kicked or thrown. Since there are a lot of stones on the floor in the corridor we could not be sure it was thrown at us and because of the acoustics we couldn’t be sure of the direction. But since we were all holding hands it could not have been any of us.

At the end of this session I held an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiment. There were several responses to people’s questions but not all could be clearly heard, the two clearest ones though can be heard at:- http://youtu.be/d3n7GyJYi7w
http://youtu.be/6o6RBu3J6qw

The second group to this same area, Philip was still present and in fact he stayed with me in the room all night. Once again arm movement was felt by the majority of the guests relatively quickly as well as some pushing and people being pulled back. This group however were not as nervous as the first group and Philip was able to push people and twist them into some very unusual and sometimes painful positions.

For some reason Philip wanted to touch people’s shoes with whichever hands he was able to move, which meant that some people ended up getting all the dirty dust on their shoes.

During the séance two guests became incapacitated and had to be removed from the séance. Gary (guest) in particular just felt drained and he described the feeling similar to feeling faint.

The third group were very nervous compared to the first two groups, this is usually because my sessions are held in virtual darkness and people feel more vulnerable when they can’t see the walls of the room, let alone where the doorway is.

However Philip still attempted to move people and as the group became more comfortable with their surroundings and what I was trying to achieve (which is to ask the spirit to move people) more people’s arm were being lifted and when a few guests least expected it they were pulled backwards. Two guests though had laughing fits for no reason. This is something which we have encountered before at the Fort although not in this area, but neither of the guests knew why they were laughing and according to their friends this was so out of character for them.

The rest of the time we allow the guests to hold their own ghost hunt or to experience other areas of the Fort under our supervision but not holding set activities.

I joined a group in the Counterscarp Galleries (which is an area that is usually out of bounds) and some guests asked that I do a séance circle. We were joined by a spirit that I had met the previous week called Captain Bell (he pushed people to the floor) and two other spirits who I have seen before although not for a while, they were both prisoners who probably were employed whilst serving their sentence to build the place.

All of these spirits combined their energies to move everyone’s arms although some more than others, which very quickly progressed into people being twisted up and a strange lunging sensation towards people, not always their faces but usually. One guest was “picked on” by the spirit and he was forced to the floor until his head touched the floor. I attributed this to Captain Bell as that is what he did to two people the week before.

This was once again an enjoyable ghost hunt with many guests getting some form of paranormal activity which they could not explain or an experience that they enjoyed.

Fort Borstal ghost hunt – 7-12-2013

Wednesday, January 15th, 2014

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 7th December 2013
Rochester, Kent.

Fort Borstal is one of the special places that we go to where we have had so much in the past, but every time we return we don’t really know what to expect, tonight was one of those nights with lots of physical paranormal activity felt, noises heard and strange phenomena that we have no seen here before.

After splitting the whole group into three smaller groups everyone headed off into different directions and as usual I chose the double Counterscarp Galleries as they are in my view the most spiritually active areas of the Fort. Paranormal stuff always happens here and usually when it is a good night something that has never happened before affects everyone.

The first group to this area we were joined quite quickly by a male spirit who often frequents this area; Captain Daniel Bedford, a First World Soldier. After forming a séance circle Captain Daniel was able to move the arms of some people quite quickly, others took a while to move. He proceeded to start with gentle arm movement which each guest in turn was able to ask in their heads which way their arms should move and Daniel moved the guests arms, it even worked this way when other people asked for someone else’s arms to be moved.

After this gentle arm movement Daniel moved on to pushing and swaying some people, this too was also quite gentle, but purposeful. He also used our arms collectively to push Dave’s (guest) chin up as he kept saying “Stand Tall” as Dave was a tall person who generally had to look down at everyone. Dave and John (guests) we both pushed towards the centre of the circle several times. I and the people either side of me were also pulled by our arms down towards the floor, but we never actually touched the floor. This is quite a common experience in this room with this spirit. Both Dean and Darren (guests) also experienced this arm movement and some gentle pushing but not the same level as John & Dave.

The second group to this area Captain Daniel joined us very quickly and even before I had finished the do’s and don’ts he had already started to move some of the guests but mostly concentrated on Russ. This quickly moved on to Simon and most of this group of friends felt arm movement, which was mostly on command but Daniel got bored of this and did whatever he wanted. This mainly involved everyone getting twisted and tangled up on one side of the circle, the other side of the circle they experienced some light arm movement but it was not of the same calibre because those questions kept questioning the movements and wanted their arms to be moved as and when they wanted, whereas Daniel wanted to move their hands when he wanted to not when asked.

Various time through this session some people were pulled backwards towards the far wall and pulled towards the back wall. This is activity that I have seen in this room before although not for many months.

During one of the strange twisting sessions Russ felt a punch to his stomach, which surprisingly came out of the blue as I usually get a milliseconds notice before something like this happens so that I can warn the guests. This particular time this didn’t happen and it certainly didn’t happen when a bit later Simon felt a punch in his face, this too came as a surprise to me and an unwarranted surprise to Simon!

Also during this session Russ and Simon were pulled to the floor with other people’s hands pushing downwards on Russ’ head. When I asked for the spirit to do something different to end the session we were all pulled and pushed out of the room. Russ said that whilst he was trying to fight the sensation he wasn’t having any luck withstanding it and either had to move or fall over!

This sensation has happened once before and only happens to certain people, although this time was much better because there was little anyone could do to avoid being moved, which as a Medium I like because in a way it proves the spirit are stronger than we are, if they want to move someone they can and will.

The third group to this area were very scared and nervous of doing this activity because they were all on a Hen party, and they thought it was going to be scary, however after an initial nervous movement and when everyone felt the gentle movements that Daniel was able to inflict on the guests they all settled down. Once this happened Daniel was able to move everyone very easily everyone felt their arms move. The guests were all able to ask Daniel to move their arms to point at certain people or to touch others. However Daniel was quickly able to move all the guests and gently sway and push people. He even pulled some of the guests backwards and made them feel like they were on a boat (Julie). The Hen (Alicia) said something in her head and almost immediately Daniel moved her hands and mine to make her salute. This is something that I have never seen this spirit do to anyone he before.

This very quickly moved on to him standing behind certain people and when he did so they could feel a strange coldness, this is not a normal cold as it felt like someone had just opened a refrigerator door behind people and the two people either side of the person who felt the coldness felt nothing. I moved around the circle (as the sprit finds moving me a lot easier) so that everyone could feel this strange sensation. However when I made the final move the two people either side of me felt a strange warmness and this was generally followed by either the guests arms moving or mine and theirs arms being dragged down towards the floor to touch our shoes or stroke someone’s lower leg and my hands were placed on the floor (as it is dusty) and then placed on someone’s jacket or stroking their shoulders which left a white dusty mark. Some of this group were wearing whistles, which Daniel had great delight in touching and pushing. There was also another spirit in the next room; a former prisoner, who coincidentally help build the place but passed away whilst doing so. He didn’t interact with the session but I could hear him laughing a lot.

After these controlled sessions we then let the guests roam throughout the fort and re-visit areas and rooms that they had visited and some areas that they had not visited in our controlled sessions. This part of the night we allow the guests to venture off with some of our ghost hunting equipment. Many of the guests thoroughly enjoyed this time and had lots of spiritual contact on our electronic ghost hunting equipment and they noted that some of the areas had lots of spiritual activity which was shown or displayed on the equipment.

This was a very enjoyable ghost hunt with lots of physical paranormal activity felt by the guests. Some guests whilst off on their own heard footsteps and other strange noises which could not be explained because they were the only people in those areas.

Let’s hope the event that we have planned here for 2014 are just as active and enjoyable.

Fort Horsted ghost hunt – 19-10-2013

Fort Horsted ghost hunt 19th October 2013
Chatham, Kent

Fort Horsted is one of our favourite ghost hunting venues and paranormal activity usually happens to various people in the whole group, rarely does so much activity happen to everyone in the same room, but on this particular occasion everyone who entered one of the most interesting areas of the Fort, known at the Fort as area 26 had much the same activity, albeit with some variations but generally everyone had some form of physical paranormal activity that they either couldn’t explain or once it happened the guests wanted it to happen more frequently.

As always we split the whole group of people into smaller groups and after a short historical briefing and a health & safety talk, a quick coffee and or cigarette we head off in our respective groups to start the ghost hunt.

Within the area known as 26, which is a wonderful [sic] 180 steps down and 30 up into the counterscarp galleries I picked one of the rooms which we have had lots of activity before and started a séance circle. To me is the best way that I can demonstrate the active spirits energy in a physical way so that I can “prove” that the spirits are real.

The first group to this area were all quite chatty until I asked that spirit step forward and touch and move people and at first everyone fell silent, then as I noticed a spirit come towards us, he started to move my hands and then others in the group. The spirit was called Gerald Clarke, he was a Second World War soldier, a Private first class from some rifle regiment and he told me (later in the evening) that he trained to be a sniper. He was about 24 years old, 5’9” in height and of slight build. He was wearing his “Going out” uniform. This is a special uniform that would only be worn when the soldiers were out and about in a town or when they were not on duty or in active service. He also sported a pipe, but I forgot to mention this until Jason (GHE team & camera) and others started to smell sweet tobacco smells.

Gerald firstly moved people hands and arms and slowly became more confident and started to touch people’s heads and strangely ears, although the person that this happened to first didn’t like her ears being touched!

Many people in the group we asking (in their heads) that Gerald move their arms in a particular direction, although Gerald had his own ideas and rarely actually did what anyone asked until they asked in a polite way. Many people were also pulled down to the floor very quickly (by their hands and arms) and once on the floor Gerald continued to move them and dragged their hands across the floor to the other side of the circle.

As Gerald became more proficient at moving people there was one moment when everyone apart from one person was on the floor, mostly in a bit of a heap because some people had been dragged down on top of other people who were already on the floor.

During the whole session we all heard some odd and strange noises, some of those noises sounded like footsteps whilst other sounded like stones being thrown, (we have had stones thrown at people in this room before on previous ghost hunts) however we did not investigate the noises because we were usually on the floor or moving towards the floor when these noises occurred.

The Second group to this area started much the same way, people being silent but as soon as I saw Gerald, I explained to the guests what I could see people generally relaxed and once again gentle arm movement started but quickly turned into more meaningful movements. There was also another male spirit, Justin who I believe I have met before at the fort, although he didn’t do anything physical to the guests apart from stand near or behind them to make people feel uncomfortable.

After moving various people within this group, Gerald quickly moved on to swaying and gently pushing people with some guests commenting that they felt like they were on a boat or had just got off a boat.

Some guests felt a physical touch, usually on their backs or in the ribs and considering we were all holding hands as part of the séance it could not have been anyone physical.

This time though as people asked (in their heads) for their arms to be moved in a particular direction, Gerald complied and did exactly what every person asked of him. After many of the guests were moved in some way Gerald moved on to his speciality and that seemed to be pulling people to the floor, which is exactly what happened to me first and when I stood up others were being pulled down. Gerald however had now managed to understand how to move people and wasn’t happy just pulling people to the floor, he now managed to push and pull people in different directions by their arms and move people into strange positions and when anyone asked that they be moved Gerald always picked on one particular guest to move them first before moving the person that asked to be moved, this was very amusing to watch, but unfortunately this session was not filmed by us.

The Third group to this area started in the same manner as all the other sessions, gentle arm movement, usually just lifting someone’s arms so that they realised it wasn’t them and then very quickly (probably because Gerald now understood how to move us) moved on to pulling people in strange ways. This session was much like the first session as Gerald moved various people’s arms to touch other people’s faces, chins, chests and legs, which became very embarrassing.

After just about everyone had been either; touched, pushed or moved in some way Gerald very quickly moved on to pulling people’s arms across the group so that we either had to move or fall over. Justin (the other male spirit) also made an appearance although this time would not really enter the room and staying the same place throughout much of the time. I could see and hear him laughing a lot.

Most of this session the physical nature of the event meant that generally we were all moved and hands were being moved in all directions from just about everyone, it was very similar to a modern game of Twister although this was in virtual darkness!

Many times my hands were pulled to the floor and dragged across the floor, which was actually quite painful, although I was the only person to spend time on the floor, which I suppose made a change, because the other two groups this was a usual occurrence.

As this session progressed several whistles were heard, but unfortunately we were all making a noise or talking when this happened and none of us had any idea where the noises came from, although the noises all sounded like it came from within the Fort rather than the dry moat.

After our controlled session we always allow the guests to wander quite freely to different areas of the Fort, usually with one of the GHE team in toe because of the various dangers at this fort. I joined a group of four guests in an area that they had not visited during our controlled sessions and we came across a familiar (to me) female spirit energy. Her name was Annie and she had been a Nurse at the Fort. One guest asked that she touch his hand and although he felt no proper or physical touch, he did feel a strange tingling sensation in his hand and arm. This is a normal sensation as Annie has previously made guests feel the same when they have been in this area.

This was an exceptionally physical ghost hunt as everyone felt some kind of physical paranormal activity, whether they wanted to feel it or not! Obviously many of the guests who experienced the dragging across the floor or pulled to the floor didn’t want to return to this area and spent the free time doing that so they ventured off to different areas to try to communicate with the spirit with some of our electronic gadgets. Many guests reported some interesting communication and everyone left happy as they had all experienced something that they didn’t expect and realised that actually it wasn’t as scary as they thought it was going to be.
