Fort Borstal ghost hunt – 27-09-2013

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 27th September 2013
Rochester, Kent

We have visited Fort Borstal enough times now to know what to expect or which spirits may visit us especially because I have seen the same spirit energies time after time. However we cannot predict what will happen because that is the nature of what we do. I am also surprised what the spirit energies are capable of, especially to certain people. This was one of those nights where the spirit energies were predictable, but what they did to the guests wasn’t. It was different to say the least!

As usual I chose the double counterscarp gallery as my area for the night, I choose this area because the level of spiritual activity is much higher within this area, I attribute this to the men that spent many hours toiling here, either building the place or when stationed here.

The first group of guests into the space I made my way to the end room, this seems to be more active than any other room, and unsurprisingly it is also the smallest room.

We were joined by Captain Daniel Bedford, a spirit that I have often encountered here. I asked as I usually do for the spirit to lift the arms of the guests, which Captain Daniel set about achieving. Those that didn’t feel their arms being lifted felt the alternative, pushing and swaying.

Once Captain Daniel mastered the art of lifting people’s arms and pushing the forwards and backwards and generally rocking them he then proceeded to drag people to the floor by their arms, this is not surprising as this happens very frequently by this spirit in this room. However what I wasn’t expecting is what happened after this. People were being dragged against their will out of the room, fighting the movement didn’t work as there seemed to be two choices, either fall on the floor or be pulled out of the room. Those on the floor had no choice but to move where the rest of the guests were moving.

I brought this séance circle to a quicker close than I would normally because the movements were very forceful and apart from the guests there was no other team member of mine present and hence no light in the room. The reason for this forceful movement wasn’t immediately apparent, it was only when I faced the other room that I could see another male spirit, someone who I had not seen here before and he didn’t look very happy.

The guests then wandered throughout the counterscarp galleries with some of our ghost hunting equipment as this was safer than staying in the room with an unhappy spirit.

Strange noises were heard throughout our time in the counterscarp galleries, although there was no obvious explanation for any of them.

The second group to the counterscarp galleries were very apprehensive walking through the tunnels and I led them to the same room that we had recently been forced out of. For two reasons, one to see if it would happen again and two, to find out which spirit was responsible.

Immediately Captain Daniel made himself known to me as did another familiar male spirit; Biffa or Bernard to his mum. Biffa was a prisoner who was forced to work on the fort and I have the distinct impression that this part of the fort was built by him.

I started a séance circle and once again asked for the spirit to move people’s arms. This eventually affected everyone in the room although it took a lot longer for the spirit to achieve this. After the spirits had lifted the majority of people’s arm they both then started to push people and once again push or pull them down to the floor by their arms. It didn’t seem to matter what anyone said either in their heads or out loud the spirits ignored everyone’s wish and pulled then down towards the floor. Those who were not dragged down onto the floor were being manipulated in other ways and were being moved, twisted and swayed much to the guests’ amazement. Some people were pushed and twisted so that they were facing the wrong way in the group. They were looking out whilst everyone else was looking in. This proved to be very amusing, both for the guest and the spirits who obviously enjoyed manipulating people in this way.

Unfortunately or fortunately depending on how you look at it the sensation that the first group felt of being dragged out of the room against their will didn’t happen to the second group, instead we were all pushed, twisted and generally moved in gentle but purposeful ways.

After our controlled sessions guests were allowed to roam freely around the Fort with our ghost hunting equipment, I joined various groups of people in all areas of the fort and helped them to ascertain what spirit was with them and I was able to tell them details about the spirit.

Once again an enjoyable ghost hunt where everyone had some form of a paranormal encounter, some of the paranormal experiences were memorable, but probably for the wrong reasons, like being dragged against your will, but that is the nature of what we do, it is unpredictable.

Fort Borstal ghost hunt – 31-8-2013

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 31st August 2013
Rochester. Kent

Fort Borstal is a favourite location of so many of the GHE team and since every time we return to this venue similar yet different paranormal elements occur. We never really know what to expect!

On this particular evening we only split the group into two smaller groups, normally we would split the whole group into three but many of the GHE team were away on holiday. Which left the guests more free time to explore the Fort after our controlled sessions.

As ever, I chose the counterscarp galleries for my sessions, not least because similar paranormal activity happens within this tunnel complex and it is also the one area of the fort where no outside noise can infiltrate. It is also one of the most interesting areas of the fort.

The first group to this area the group apprehensively wandered down the long tunnel to the end rooms. We started a séance circle and after explaining what may happen (based on what has happened on previous ghost hunt) one male spirit energy approached the group. This particular spirit I have seen and felt many times at the Fort, so have other guests.

His name is Captain Daniel Bedford and he would have been quite a strict person, but he is able to easily touch and move people. After asking for him to gentle touch and move people in some way, the guest to my right felt her arms starting to lift and at the time she wondered whether it was me moving her arms. I then was able to prove beyond any doubt that it was in fact Captain Daniel who was moving our arms. The guest in question then became silent and was testing both me & Captain Daniel and asked for her arms to be moved in various ways, all in her head so that I could not hear what she asked for.

I asked Daniel to move around the circle and do this to other people, but unfortunately he was unable to do this unless I moved around the circle, which I did twice so that others could feel this strange sensation. After several guests felt their arms moving and asking for their arms to be moved in a particular way by Daniel we ended the séance and the guests started to wander throughout the counterscarp gallery with some of our electronic ghost hunting equipment. Many guests were able to have meaningful answers to their question via this equipment and those that held our KII (EMF) meters noticed a correlation between the high levels shown on the meters and the amount of communication that followed.

The second group to the counterscarp galleries were not as nervous as the first group, probably because they had just encountered spirit in another part of the Fort and had become accustomed to the dark and not quite so scared of the dark.

Captain Daniel was still present and he was able to do much the same to many of the guest’s arms, but this time I did not have to move around the circle, he was able to move people of his own free will. Daniel was also able to do more with this group of people and instead of just lifting and manipulating people’s arms he was able to push some people forwards and rock them backwards as well. Some guests were also swayed and gently rocked from side to side.

After we finished the séance, once again the guests wandered around the counterscarp galleries with our ghost hunting equipment and many guests had their questions answered by Capt. Daniel.

After the controlled sessions we always allow the guests to wander around this Fort freely to visit other areas of the Fort that we didn’t investigate during the ghost hunt. I joined two guests who were hopeful that they would both have some interesting evidence. For this part of the night I escorted them to an area which we don’t often use as part of the ghost hunt because it is extremely dangerous to get to and is a very small area; The World War Two command post.

Here there was a spirit called Timothy who tried to touch both guests and move them but it took a long time before they felt his energy.

Whilst here I conducted an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiment. Out of the six questions there were four answers, but unfortunately two of those we couldn’t decipher or understand what Timothy had said. The other two can be heard at:-

Once again an interesting ghost hunt and one which many guests were able to experience first-hand physical paranormal activity.

Fort Borstal ghost hunt – 27-7-2013

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 27th July 2013
Rochester, Kent

I have personally waited many years to hold an indoor ghost hunt during a thunderstorm because I believe that it would be more atmospheric. This particular event proved that to be the case, atmospheric it certainly was. The thunderstorm waited until we were about to start and then continued for about three hours.

As this was an invitation only event there were four groups and each group were all as far away from each other as possible so that we could be sure that no noise could be heard from each group.

As ever I volunteered to go to one of the most physically demanding areas as the staircase has about 100 steps, which is 200 steps because you have to return!

We had set up all our motion sensor lights in one of these tunnels just to see if spirit could turn on one or two of the lights whilst we were at one of the counterscarp galleries.

The spirit energies in this part of the Fort didn’t really change all night, although the spirit energies were some that I have met before.

The first group there was lots of communication via our electronic equipment and considering the thunderstorm was in full swing and echoing throughout these tunnels we all heard something heavy being dropped inside the tunnels as it landed with a thud, what it was though we could not establish, nor see anything suspicious. Some of the motion sensor lights turned on periodically at the far end of the tunnel.

During the second group’s séance part there was some slight arm movement and when the motion sensor lights that were turning on and off randomly, some of us thought we saw the legs of a person, this was so real that one of the team (Sean) went to check to make sure it wasn’t a real person. It wasn’t.

The third group’s séance session, once again there was some light arm movement and the touching of chins with people’s arms. Many guests were also pulled backwards. During the séance many strange bangs were heard, although they did not seem to come from outside, but because of the echo in the tunnel this could not be ruled out. Although it is very unusual to hear outside noises in these tunnels because of the dry moat that surrounds the fort usually blocks all outside sounds.

The fourth séance group had the most activity in the counterscarp galleries, probably because of two reasons, firstly all the other séances were conducted in the main counterscarp galleries, but for this session I held the séance in the end room as this is where (on past ghost hunts) we get most of the activity. There was also a different spirit energy present; Capt Daniel Bedford who is relatively responsible for many of our good sessions in this part of the fort as he has much more energy and is able to move people more easily. Once again this started with very positive arm movement which quickly turned into pushing and pulling people, so much so that some people were pulled backward until their backs were against the walls.

The majority of people once pushed against a wall were then dragged by their arms or legs down to the floor, some guests were twisted until they had no choice but to join the rest of us on the floor. Once everyone was on the floor, little else happened.

After our controlled sessions we let all the guests roam the fort with our equipment to hold their own ghost hunts or vigils, I joined a group of people in the World War Two command post. Here there was a female spirit, her name was Debra and she was an ATS “Ack Ack” girl. (ATS Girls manned the anti-aircraft guns during the Second World War). There was also a male energy present who gave me the name of Devon (I presume this to be his surname) and although he was a military man he was dressed in 1950s attire. The rope that was hanging from the ceiling (a swing) looked as if it were moving but because we didn’t have any IR night vision cameras with us, we were unable to confirm this because we know that light plays tricks with our eyes in the dark. This was the first time that I had held any sessions in this part of the fort and many of the KII (EMF) meters were showing large spikes of energy and there was also some useful communication via the electronic equipment.

This was an invitation event and many of the guests thoroughly enjoyed the ghost hunt because we were using areas of the fort that we don’t usually use during our public ghost hunts and had the thunderstorm not started when we started we would have taken the guests into the dry moat as this area has never been investigated before. However we plan on repeating an invitation only event at this fort and next time there will be more areas that will be open for investigation.

Fort Horsted – 16-3-2013

Fort Horsted ghost hunt 16th March 2013
Chatham, Kent

Sean & I took our first group of 10 guests into the back area of the fort, and split in two with Sean taking 5 guests to Room 36 and me taking 5 guests to the Hanging Room.  After an explanation of how the kit works we started by asking out for spirit to step forward and make themselves known to us.  Immediately we had activity on the Ghost Pro’s and KII.  Sean started his group with a séance circle and almost straight away guests were having swaying and arm movement, and often when the guests asked how to be moved the spirit responded to their amazement.  My group tried some glass movement on the Ouija table but had no response.  After 30 mins we swapped the guests over, and my second group started with Ouija table.  They had no movement on the glass but the table rocked once.  We took this as a sign that the spirit wanted to move the table and not the glass.  The table started with gentle rocking and with encouragement from the guests the table started rocking quickly.  When spirit was asked to stop – the table stopped immediately, when asked to re-start it did.  Guests wanted the table to spin around but the spirit found a unique way of doing this, by rapidly rocking the table until it started moving around in a circle.  The guests then asked for the table to be tipped up, which spirit did, however for a few minutes it balanced almost at a right angle until it fell to the ground.  At this point our time was up and we returned for a break.  Sean’s second group had only Ghost Pro activity.

Our second session followed the same as before, but not much activity that time.

Next all guests had the opportunity to choose where to go, and Sean and I took some guests to Casement 26.  Some of the guests felt uneasy in this area, and didn’t stay too long, however we did have Ghost Pro and KII activity.  Sean & I were then joined by five more guests, and we started with a séance circle.  All seven of us had arm movements and swaying immediately.  All our fists met in the middle of the circle, and would be moved to where we wanted at request.  We used this opportunity to ask the spirit some questions, we felt that as this group of guests seemed to have been followed by the same energy all night it could be a relative.  We asked the question “If you are a relative to this people could all our arms be moved up together” the response was all our arms being moved up.  One of the guests thought it could be her nan, we asked for all our fists to be touching again if yes, and all our hands met in the middle.  The guest thought her granddad was also with us.  We then let the spirit(s) move us in whichever way they chose.  This was followed by arms being moved up down and in almost every position you could think of.  All of us being pulled to the ground then up again.  I looked across at one guest who was in a ‘superman’ position.  Sean was being stretched with his arms out at the side as far as he could go.  Four more guests joined us, the activity continued but mainly to the original guests and team members.  We were also hearing noises, 3 loud booms, voices/talking, and when we asked spirit to copy our whistle we all heard a clear response.  The movement in the circle continued, focussing mainly on Sean and the original five guests.  They were being pushed in very uncomfortable positions and when we asked spirit to stop and return people to standing positions spirit were kind enough to oblige. The guest to my left (Gavin) also felt a finger poke him in his side.  I said I thought I had felt myself being poked a moment before.  Gavin had also being filming earlier and was surprised that his battery had drained very quickly.

Our time was up so after thanking spirit for their efforts, we returned to the comfort and warmth of the base room.  Great night….

Fort Horsted ghost hunt – 17-11-2012

Fort Horsted ghost hunt 17th November 2012
Chatham, Kent

Ghost Hunt Events as a team always enjoy going to Fort Horsted, as every time we go there something different, amazing or unbelievable happens during the ghost hunt which leaves our guests speechless. The level of activity that we have encountered at this Fort is surprising although we look forward to every event as if it were our first time there.

My first session was in a location the furthest from the other group and although we had sporadic communication via our electronic equipment, I decided that it would be better to hold a séance and ask the spirit present to interact with the guests.

Just after we started a male spirit called Michael stood in the doorway, several guests reported that they too saw a shadow in the doorway. Michael was of West African descent in his late 20s and appeared to be from the 1960s. He also told me that he was a carpenter who would have worked at the Fort at some point, he didn’t give the specifics.

Michael was able to move some of the guests arms but the majority of the time we were all hearing mumblings and whisperings from outside the room, although spirit did copy some of my whistles, which were heard by the guests. Also a lot of loud bangs were heard, although given the nature of the tunnels and that sound travels throughout these tunnels, those bangs could have been anything, although not the other group as they were too far away and not in the same tunnel complex. The whisperings and female voices on the other hand were not originating from the tunnels, but from within the room.

After a while we moved into another tunnel to see if guests felt anything strange, which is often the case however on this occasion none of the guests felt anything, but then we were a large group and the best activity here happens to small groups of people. There was however another male energy called Peter present who was able to answer some questions via our electronic equipment. Also more whistles were heard in this tunnel.

My second session was in exactly the same area, as each group just swapped for the second of our controlled sessions. Once again Michael joined us although no-one reported any movements. However many guests this time around (including me) smelt paint or white spirit which was strange as there would never be anyone painting within these tunnels. Some other guests reported smelling liquorice.

Once again we all heard female voices, mumblings and whispers although not on the same level as the previous group and after moving into the other tunnel, even less happened.

The third session was held in casement 26, which involves walking down an interesting and steep staircase below the dry moat. Whilst I was in this area with the majority of the guests I didn’t feel or sense any spiritual activity, although some guests did have some communication via our electronic equipment with a child energy.

After this final session we allowed our guests to go back to any particular area to experience any activity, although the majority of people wanted to experience the same rooms as each other, apart from three guests who asked me if we could go somewhere else and try to get some good evidence as they hadn’t experienced much all evening. So I took them to an area in which other people were unlikely to interrupt us and held a séance to encourage spirit to join us.

This was probably one of the best sessions I have had at the Fort. A male energy called Sergeant Mitchell joined us, he was 27 years old and Scottish and told me that in the Second World War he would train people at the Fort, but he was then sent to Normandy in France where he died from shrapnel wounds. He instantly liked Phil (guest) and myself because of our Celtic links (Phil is Welsh & I am Cornish) and he started moving all of the guests arms, first gently, then with more purpose as the guests got used to the strange feeling. He was also able to push and pull us usually surprising us as he did so. The guests then asked several questions (some out loud and some in their heads) which Mitchell answered by swaying some people and moving our arms to signify yes and no.

During this session, two other guests found us and whilst we were unable to let them fully join in, as we were being manipulated (by being pushed and pulled) they stood and watched. Becky who was standing nearest to us felt strange tingling pins and needle sensations as Mitchell told me that he was trying to touch her. Audrey (guest) who was part of the séance group felt her bum being touched or caressed. At the end of the séance I asked all the guests to think of a personal question to ask Mitchell as part of our EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiment. Many of the questions had some form of response although we have been unable to hear the exact words but three responses (out of six) had audible answers, two of which are very clear. These can be heard at

http://youtu.be/p4Gg_eYinjQ
http://youtu.be/YVZA9La7cCI
http://youtu.be/Ey3a8Q5tBeI

Once again a very enjoyable ghost hunt, although a little slow to start with, but as the night progressed more activity was experienced by the guests, especially when the two large groups split down into smaller groups. The Ouija board sessions were also very active (this will be covered in another team members report).

The ghost hunt events team were all present as we were shooting a promotional video before the ghost hunt.

Fort Horsted – 15-9-2012

Tuesday, October 9th, 2012

Fort Horsted ghost hunt 15th September 2012
Chatham. Kent.

As a team we were really looking forward to September as it meant that we were visiting Fort Horsted three times to hold ghost hunts.

The first on 14th September was a Hen night party and we had a really good séance session we also recorded a stone being thrown towards the group on video see http://youtu.be/eDaYBTnKHSc

So we were all anticipating this ghost hunt to be just as productive. It was!

Just before we let the guests into the Fort, I was in the smoking area which is at the end of the long tunnel and heard the sounds of metallic scraping, similar to someone moving a load of scaffold poles. Since I know I was the only person in that area and it wasn’t a windy night I did think that that was strange. Later in the evening two guests were also in the same area and they too both heard the same sort of noise.

The group was split into two smaller groups and I headed off for an area which I don’t often investigate, but this is an area which produces lots of strange anomalies and it is the furthest away from the other group.

We had small amounts of KII activity although quite a lot of communication through our electronic devices and the guests heard moans and groans, whistles, female voices and muttering, music and a female singing. We were joined by a female spirit energy called Mary Beth she was quite reserved and whilst holding a séance she was able to push some of the guests and move their arms.

Mary Beth was in her early 30s about 5’8” in height and had passed away during 1870s.

One of the guests (Emma) wandered down the tunnel that we walked to get to where we were to see if she could hear the sounds of the female mumbling and whispering better. She could and then came back very quickly to the rest of us! Towards the end of the session many of the guests including myself could hear the sound of laboured breathing, at first I thought this could be the sound of Sean (Cameraman) breathing as the noise in the room echoes. But as he moved away from us, several guests heard the same sound and it was much louder than the first time. Since Sean had moved away from the group he exclaimed that he though he heard the sound of Children playing, this is extremely unlikely considering it was about 10pm.

The second group session I returned to the same area that I was with the first group. Once again we had lots of communication via our equipment but little or no observed KII activity.

We were joined with a female energy that I have come across before in this Fort and in this room. Her name was Annie and she was a nurse in the First World War. During the resulting séance Annie was able to move just about everyone and arm movement was on command. Annie was also able to push people so that they were bent over and one guest (Dave) who was a sceptic got pushed so hard that he was pushed onto the floor. Many other guests were also pushed downwards and on to the floor. Many guests including me could smell lit matches, which is very distinctive and since we knew that we were alone in this area and no-one was in the smoking area it was rather strange. Some guests also smelt horse manure which equally was strange as there are no horses anywhere near the Fort.

The following two sessions were held in casement 26 which is the most strenuous to go to and from and since I didn’t want to be climbing the staircase (which has 92 steps) twice, the whole group went there in one go and then split up into the two areas at each end of the casement.

During the resulting séance held in this area two Second World War soldiers joined us; Justin and Taff, both were mischievous and they were able to push most of the guests and move their arms without much trouble. Michelle (guest) felt tugging on her coat during this séance and Chris (guest) who was also a sceptic was pushed to the floor. Dave who had already been pushed over once had the majority of the spirit energy affect him and towards the end of this session he was pushed with a lot of force that he could only fall over! Both Dave & Chris were speechless at this activity and had no logical explanation for what happened to them.

The fourth session I stayed put in this area and the guests swapped over, the same WWII energies were able to push people as before, some of which were pushed to the floor or bent over. Plus there was some strange arm movement felt by the guests including twisting or arms, which at times became very painful.

Once again this was a very enjoyable ghost hunt and one in which just about all of the guests had some form of physical paranormal activity happen to them.

We recorded many audio clips throughout the evening but as yet we have not been able to identify any EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voices).

Fort Horsted ghost hunt – 9-6-2012 (Two)

Tuesday, June 26th, 2012

Fort Horsted Ghost Hunt – 9th June 2012

Having mustered group A MW and Kym set up vigil in area 10, commencing in the right hand side room as you enter the area. A ouija table, hand bell, singing bowl and candles had been installed prior to the guests arrival, and trigger objects set out in area 21 (a wooden cross, two old type florins, equivalent to 10p nowadays, and a small packet of old type cigarettes and an old matchbox). The group joined hands and embarked upon a séance/vigil, with Kym and MW calling out, assisted by Carl who was also responsible for video camera work. Several guests noted a distinct change in temperature, getting colder, with a “breeze” apparent on several occasions during this initial phase. MW picked up on a “presence”, female, and indications of a nursing connection. No name was evident. MW also reported sensing something behind him over his left hand shoulder, supported in this “feeling” by Lisa, who also reported a “tickling sensation on her face” likened to something crawling over her skin. She felt it was her hair, and constantly sought to adjust her fringe etc only to note that it was not her hair causing the effect at all. Several other guests indicated strange sensations on their respective personage, with leg/feet tingling, two independent cases of “something touching their lower leg areas”, someone reported having been touched from behind and several instances of swaying to and fro were noted.

Whistling was emitted several times by team/staff members and on at least two occasions all agreed that they had clearly heard a response, copying the original whistle pattern. A long, pronounced sigh was reported by one guest, emanating from above and behind the group. Requests to have spirit affect the candles revealed no change at all. At one point a long, high pitched “noise” became evident, though shortly afterwards, a passing, distant vehicle or motorbike engine could be heard, which may have attributed to the original anomaly, this was inconclusive.

During filming, and in tandem with MW announcing his “feeling” a presence moving about the outer area of the circle, Carl identified separate orb activity over and above/around MW and Lisa, this was clearly seen and recorded for further analysis. With several more instances of “strange feelings” and possible “contact” the circle was abandoned and the group moved across passage way to the ouija board area. Almost instantly, guests remarked on the falling temperature, however, MW and two other guests reported feeling extremely hot and sweaty, despite the coolness of the surroundings. Making provision for protection and ensuring that only the goodness and light were requested to come forward, a session ensued with some remarkable results. Shortly after commencing, Carl appeared to be in “distress” and MW asked if he needed assistance. Having encountered a “metallic taste” in his mouth he felt nauseous and in need of some fresh air. MW took over the camera and Carl left the building.

The board/glass indicated a presence, spelling out the name “GUGZ” which MW asked was perhaps a nickname, to which a pronounced and positive “YES” was the answer. Further questioning revealed a WW1 association/connection in the fort and a possible link with conscientious objectors, indicating that the spirit may well have been a guard or similar? MW indicated another presence within the room, a male and noted a name, but refrained from speaking until further table information was revealed. Spelling out the first three letters of the name when requested “PAR” MW interjected and advised the group that he had ;picked up on the name “PARKY” which immediately received a resounding ”YES” from the board. Pursuing the questioning, it was revealed that this link emanated from WWII with no connection whatsoever to the previous contact.

A lengthy and “informative” debate/conversation ensued culminating in a request from Kym for spirit to inscribe specific shapes and figures in the middle of the table. This was successfully achieved on three separate occasions with spirit providing a pronounced triangle shape, circle and a figure of eight in the midst of the table, amazing our guests somewhat.

Carl returned at this juncture, feeling much better, and MW, almost immediately, reported a total camera failure. Further checks revealed a drained battery supply to the video recorder, which minutes previously, had indicated almost three (3) hours further taping capacity. No explanation can be given for this strange anomaly, and both MW and Carl commented on the fact that this had never happened before at this venue? Guests, not actively involved in the Ouija were invited to “explore” the surrounding lighting tunnels, especially after MW reported a strong, cold breeze, emanating from one of the apertures, housing the candles, clearly affecting the flame. It should be noted here that the weather outside was still, calm and quite “warm and humid”, considering the recent gale force winds encountered in the locale. Other guests confirmed their having felt this “breeze” and noted a distinct fall in temperature simultaneously. MW reported the presence of a male spirit possibly called Ted who was moving around the room, but did not appear to engage with the guests via the board. When asked, Parky did refer to other spirits being present but could not define the number as requested, via the board. Pro Ghost Meter activity throughout the vigil was constant and regular though with the activity evident on the board, guests were not engaging with the meter so much, feeling more inclined to question and “communicate! with spirit via the Ouija board. KII EMF Meter activity was zero! The MEL Meter registered background, ambient readings no higher that 0.2mG Board activity declined until suddenly, and after several changes in guest involvement and participation, a new “contact” engaged with the group, at first tentatively, and with mixed, legible/credible messaging. However, in depth, specific, questioning, from two guests, confident that the letters being indicated were revealing details of a person that had passed, who knew one of those guests, proved fruitful. Scott Warner, an eighteen year old male, who died very suddenly, revealed himself through the board. Guarded questions from the two guests involved eventually did reveal factual evidence of this engagement, particularly the fact that this spirit had attained British, Judo Championship status, in his short lifetime. Clearly, the two guest involved, expressed emotional surprise, and after further engagement with the spirit, surprise at the clarity and information of the encounter both factually and personally. It transpires that Mark (guest) was a relative of this unfortunate young man and appeared convinced that he had indeed encountered the lads spirit.

Several times guests noted distinct cold spots within the immediate séance area. Throughout our time in area 10, constant, background mumbling could be heard, almost totally not connected with fellow investigators in the far off area 34. Checks indicated that there were no other people in the immediate area. Strange and general noises were apparent sporadically and “knocks/taps” were distinguishable at certain stages of the vigil. An EVP was undertaken in area 10 the details and data recorded still awaiting full analysis, though during, on site playback, there does appear to be some evidence of response/engagement at various points in the tape. Closing down the Ouija activity the group wandered through the tunnel towards the smoking area where several guests were invited to “explore” the area 21 lighting tunnels. MW broke off with several guests to visit the upper room in area 21 where trigger objects had been placed earlier in the evening. Guests were surprised to note that the wooden cross and one of the coins had indeed moved very slightly. During an encounter in the lighting tunnel, Matt and Simon heard footsteps behind them, accompanied by MW, and felt as if they were being followed very closely. Both guests were unnerved by this experience and asked to leave the area. A similar result ensued with Tom and Ryan. Upstairs, a brief EVP was undertaken and the results remain to be fully analysed.

The first session ended shortly afterwards and a refreshment break ensued.

The session with Group B, accompanied by the same staff/team members, went far more “quietly”. Area 10, the right hand side room, séance/hand holding session revealed very little activity with one female guest reporting feeling as if she were “swaying”, and Kym with guest to right were also being pushed backwards. Ouija activity in the adjacent room was extremely slow and subdued. However, once the glass began to move, the guests were led around the table, in a clockwise, circular motion, the glass actually spinning beneath their fingers. Messaging was indecipherable in the main with some words being evident but little meaningful or intelligent outcome being achieved. As the circular motion of the glass led the guests around the table, vibration and “wobbling” was reported by the guests. This increased, and strangely enough, appeared to be more intense, when female guests only requested activity on the board.

It was then decided the guests tried table tipping and whilst this was happening Kym filmed two orbs in the doorway.  Kym & Carl then moved into the corridor and twice heard whistling.  Kym returned to film the table being moved and felt a coldness to her right, described as a freezer door being opened.  Guests on the table in front felt this too. The table began to “shudder” and “shake”, faintly at first but building up gradually to a pronounced rocking and even an attempt to move the table across the floor surface. To illustrate the table movement more obviously, MW rested the hand bell on the table and during filming by Kym, the bell actually was made to ring clearly with the movement of the table by spirit.

Guests were clearly excited and surprised at this anomaly, and constantly sought to double check that there was no mechanical movement or false indications creating the activity of the table. MW encountered a strong and sudden headache at this juncture, which passed within ten minutes. Leaving the area 10 rooms behind, the group transited the tunnel once again, leading out into the open air and the smoking area.

After a short refreshment break, the final vigil began with a brief to enable guests an almost free range opportunity to engage in activities throughout the Fort. Paul, the “owner” assisted by taking small groups of guests to view the WWII graffiti areas. MW assisted guests in brief visits to area 21 again, area 34, where an EVP ensued, the data still to be analysed. Finally, a combined group visited area 26 where a laser grid was set up and calling out ensued.

Another EVP ensued and data will need to be reviewed. A hand holding séance, filmed by Sean, was undertaken with various anomalous results most interesting being two distinct “knocks or taps” from an adjacent wall. Very little else was reported or encountered by guests during the closing stages of the evening. A final and brief visit to the upper room in area 21, to check and retrieve the trigger objects revealed further slight movement to the cigarette box and the coin. MW also convened a brief EVP exercise whilst retrieving the goods the details of which still need analysing. The event finished at 0200 with guests appearing happy, contented and sufficiently satisfied with the event in general.

Fort Horsted ghost hunt – 9-6-2012 (One)

Fort Horsted ghost hunt – 9th June 2012

It is always a fantastic experience for our guests and ourselves when we investigate Fort Horsted in Chatham, Kent. We have had some amazing experiences at the Fort and every time something new or different happens much to our delight. This time was no different.

After splitting the whole group into two smaller groups, both groups set off in opposite directions so that we knew that we could not hear each other and therefore any noises heard by either group was not our own doing. As the Fort is a horse shoe shape noise travels in the corridors very easily.

My first group set off to the furthest part of the Fort in an area which we have had some great experiences. All the guests had time to play with our equipment although there wasn’t a lot of KII activity. We did however have some very good activity on our communication device. I was aware of a male energy called Tomas (pronounced Thomas) although I could only see his face, he seemed to be of Mediterranean descent as he had olive skin, dark hair and dark eyes and rough shaven. He was about 30 years old and passed in the early 1980s. Although I do not know what his link with the Fort was. Tomas gave the majority of the people a push during the séance we held. Some guests also reported a sensation that they were being pushed downwards and felt a pressure on their shoulders. Tomas also moved the arms of myself, Donna, Steve and Kerry as we were all together and Stuart although felt no arm movement, did get pushed a lot.

Whilst the séance was taking place we all heard some very loud whispering and mumbling as well as the sound of footsteps approaching us. Paul (Business Development Manager) thought that the sound had to be a person and set off to investigate the sounds. He didn’t find anyone until he came across the other group, who were exactly where they were supposed to be. Therefore the noises we heard of people approaching are anomalous. I also set up a Geo phone (a device that visually shows noises) at the corner of a tunnel away from us but close enough so that if a noise was detected the lights on this device would light up so that we could see and hear the noise. This device lit up many times and some of the guests also reported seeing shadows and dark shapes move in the same corridor.

From here we moved into the very long and extremely dark tunnel which has proved to be eventful on previous occasions. This time though just about everyone felt an oppressive feeling that made them want to leave, but not on their own!

After short break I returned to this same area with the other group, once again there was little or no KII EMF activity but some good spirit communication from our electronic equipment. Many of the guests were very scared, not just because of the complete darkness but mainly because we heard very similar noises to our first session; mumblings, whispers and footsteps. A female energy called Alice made herself known to me. She was a Nurse in WWI, aged about 19 years old and was approximately 5’6” and had long brunette hair.

I suggested to some guests to put their hand out so that they could feel Alice, many reported pins and needles in their hands, although one guest actually felt a real touch which scared her witless. Other guests could also smell a fruity fragrance which they said did not smell like perfume. This has been reported before in this part of the Fort from our previous events. Many guests also felt cold spots and shivers which was not related to the weather as there was not a breeze within this part of the Fort. Taking the group into the long tunnel did not result in them feeling the same as the previous group. This time the atmosphere felt completely different.

After this session we allowed our guests to roam to some extent. They were able to go to any area of the Fort with us on a supervisory role. Many guests chose to go to the most interesting part of the Fort; the double casement.

I on the other hand took a small group of people to an area which a) has never been investigated before and b) it was an area that I wasn’t supposed to be in. Curiosity however led me here.

Since I have never been to this area before I did not know what to expect, although spirit joined us very quickly. A male energy whose name remains a mystery because he wouldn’t tell me approached us. He looked like a sailor not dissimilar to Captain Birdseye, however he was a carpenter who hand extremely large hands (he was generally quite a stocky built man) and smoked a pipe. When asking for this spirit to repeat a noise we were not disappointed, just about every noise we made we heard a response, although they were quiet responses we have recorded some of the whistles. We also heard footsteps from the staircase and other noises which sounded similar to stones being thrown.

We also heard several bangs and taps in response to our requests and a general mumbling sound, which due to where we were could not have been anyone else talking.

Whilst in this area I undertook several EVP recordings. The best is below and I commented at the time that I heard something, although not as clear as the recording.

Once again a very exciting and enjoyable ghost hunt and one which our guests thoroughly enjoyed although disappointed that we had to finish at 2.0am. The six hours according to most of the guests had just flown by.

Burham Cement Works ghost hunt 24-3-2012

Burham Cement Works ghost hunt 24th March 2012

Having visited this place in the day time I was very keen to come back at night, as the spirit energies here were very friendly and I felt sure than at night, when it is quieter, we would record some very good EVPs (a.k.a. spirit voices).

After much wandering around and taking many photos we settled into a spot where our K2 EMF meters were “kicking off”.

A female energy called Ems (which I understood for being short for Emily) stepped forward, she was approximately 17 or 18 years old, wearing a white and blue dress, which was fairly soiled with clay and mud. She was also wearing brown leather ankle boots, which in later communication with her, we established were work boots and that she thought they were uncomfortable. Emily had light brown hair and was wearing a floppy hat. She gave me the year as 1880. Emily was at first cautious of us which I misinterpreted as being shy in the first instance, although after 10 minutes I realised.

Whilst in this area our respective K2 EMF meters and ghost communicators (six meters in total) were amazing to watch as the energies wandered amongst us. Many of the guests felt hot and cold spots, which considering it wasn’t a cold or windy night was fairly interesting all by itself.

Another male energy also joined us, his name was Mack Tippery (or something similar to Tippery) and he was Irish, he was from the same period of time as Emily, although he was approximately 50 years old, a foreman when the Cement works was in full production.

Between both the energies they answered many questions via our communication equipment about their lives and the working conditions at the Cement Works.

During this phase of the ghost hunt I recorded the questions the guests were asking on our communication devices as part of my EVP experiment. There were about five or six EVPs recorded, however some of them are inaudible, the best three are below.

Many of the guests including myself heard lots of strange noises in the woods, these noises sounded like footfalls (someone walking over the broken sticks) and some of the guests saw varying coloured lights within the woods.

Whilst we were walking out of the woods, beside a spur of the river, there is a wooded area here, which doesn’t look very inviting, even during the day, but since we were on a ghost hunt it seemed the most sensible thing to do. Many guests photographed Orbs (light anomalies) in this part of the wood. However the most interesting photo was one of mine which contained a very interesting mist formation. It was no colder here, nor had any mist drifted off the river, yet the mist formation seems to have a defined shape.

Another very interesting location and one which is rather remote, which makes it perfect for our ghost hunting activity as it is also very quiet.

Fort Horsted ghost hunt 17-3-2012 (team two)

FORT HORSTED GHOST HUNT – 17TH MARCH 2012

1.  Group C
We first went to room 10 and after taking photos, lighting tealights and having a general look around, we held a séance.  I immediately felt spirit behind me by extreme cold and being pushed and pulled.  Two guests next to me felt the coldness too.  We started hearing many different noises in the corridor; footsteps and faint whistling.  I then saw a shadow in the doorway, then a guest saw a shadow in an alcove in the wall and the tealight in the alcove flickered greatly at the same time.  Other guests were feeling ‘cobweb touches’ on their faces.  We then stood in the corridor with the laser grid on asking for spirit to come near.  We threw two led balls down the corridor and one seemed to rest against the wall then roll away from the wall and slightly back towards us.

2. Group A
We went to two upstairs rooms in the fort, but after nothing seemed to be happening we moved down to the corridor.  We set up the laser grid pointing down the corridor and two of the guests saw one of the red lights turn off then on.  We split up into two smaller groups along the corridor and asked out for spirit to make themselves known.  After not much being heard we walked down towards a smaller room, and just before entering a whistle was heard.  We stayed in this room for a short while before leaving.  I then took two members of the group to room 10 for a short while whilst the remaining guests visited the graffiti area.

3. Group B
I took this group to room 10 and after a short while started with a séance circle.  Guests were seeing different lights through the doorway into the opposite room, and again different noises were being heard. Jo (guest) started feeling very unwell.  She was feeling sick, hot and dizzy.  We broke the circle as she felt she needed to be sick – which she did!  After checking that Jo was happy to continue we stepped into the corridor and set the laser grid up.  Again we threw the led balls down the corridor but nothing happened.  We then decided to rejoin the other groups and just before leaving, whilst asking the guests if there is anywhere they may like to return to before the end, the lights on the K2 meter lit up for the first time that night.  We asked spirit if we should stay by lighting up the K2 – nothing happed.  We asked spirit if we should go back to the first room the group had been to that night and the lights on the K2 went on.  We then proceeded back to the narrow dead-end tunnel for a short while, but only heard just a few faint noises and whistle.

I would just like to thank all the guests for a great night and a special thank you to Paul for his generous hospitality throughout the evening.
