Old Police Cells Museum ghost hunt – 01-02-2014

The Old Police Cells Museum 1st February 2014
Brighton, East Sussex

On the previous two occasions that we have visited the Old Police Cells the activity has been really great but sporadic with some people getting lots more activity than others and different rooms having different sensations.

However this evening that changed for the better, lots of activity was experienced by the guests in all areas, albeit some of the activity was exceptional.

I had chosen the sub-sub-basement for two reasons, firstly this was the most interesting area to me as it is quite a big space and there are quite a few “active” areas and secondly it was also the coolest area, the temperature down here was a pleasant 15 degrees Celsius. Upstairs it was closer to 25.

On previous occasions there have been two areas where guests have stood on their own and unusual things have happened to them, nothing sinister but also unexpected. I held all my sessions in this area.

The spirit that we present here remained throughout the whole evening with every group, one was a male spirit energy called Tommy in his late-30s who was about 5’10” in height. He also wore a “warehouse” style brown three-quarter length jacket and seemed to be from the early 1900s. He never actually told me the year but I assumed this based on the way he spoke and acted.

The second was a very well dressed man with a large stature, he never told me his name, as he seemed disinterested in telling me. He was about 6’ in height and of a portly build, and he had a full length bushy beard. Wearing a smart three piece black suit, he had the air of authority about him and at first I thought he was a councillor however it later transpired he was a council solicitor who wrote law reports and documents for the council. The area in which we were standing was where all the law report books were stored, some dating back to the early 1800s.

The first group to this area we started a séance circle and almost immediately after I asked for Tommy to move us in some way, Mark (guest) was pushed backwards against the shelving and he stated that he could not lift himself back upright. At around the same time both of my hands started to lift (which is nothing unusual, as spirit usually start with me) Jeanette (guest) however was not expecting this as she was holding my right hand. Kerry (GHE team) who was on my left wasn’t surprised and very quickly Tommy was able to move our arms into more uncomfortable positions!

As Tommy became more confident and more adept at moving us he progressed the activity around the circle with other guests having their hands moved or being gently swayed or rocked, some people were pushed backwards into more of the book shelves.

Whilst all this was happening several of us heard some odd noises, these ranged from footfall sounds to the sound of various things being clicked or dropped and one particularly loud noise which everyone heard, sounded like a pebble being rolled across the floor.

Several times the two people either side of me were dragged (by our arms) to the floor and my hands being dragged across the floor, fortunately there was (this time) a piece of paper on the floor which protected my knuckles from scraping across the floor.

Carl (GHE Team & Camera) was supposed to be filming this session but due to a problem with the camera it just didn’t want to work, so Carl was standing at the end of the shelving looked back towards us. Many time he heard the sound of something around him and every time this was due to the well-dressed solicitor spirit. On one occasion Carl felt a prod in the back of neck. This is something which has happened to other guests who have stood in this spot on previous investigations.

After we finished the séance I asked everyone to stand in between the book shelves as on previous occasions people have felt physical sensations. It is always much better in my opinion when people are not part of a séance circle to be touched or moved as the guests generally cannot find any logical reason for this.

Those guests who stood with their backs near to the wall facing out all felt the same sensation. This was the sensation of being pulled back which can be quite unnerving when standing in total darkness!

Whilst the guests were taking turns to stand in these areas noises kept being heard from the only entrance to this room. It was unfortunate that this wasn’t recorded but this is relatively normal, when good activity happens it is rare to have it filmed.

The second group to this area, we started the séance circle in much the same area, Tommy once again joined us very quickly as did the Solicitor spirit, although he stood closer this time. The two people standing either side of me (both called Emma) felt their arms being gently lifted which surprised them both a little as neither was expecting this to happen so quickly. This very quickly progressed around certain people in the circle and then Tommy started to rock, sway and push people which they were not expecting because all of sudden people would feel their balance go and then would fall into the person standing next to them.

Once again some of the guests were pushed backwards into the book shelves and Emma (the one on my right) was dragged by our arms to the floor again, however this time the sheet of paper wasn’t underneath my hand and my knuckles were dragged across the floor. This wasn’t painful to start with but became painful!

Tommy quickly tired of trying to move some people, however the Solicitor chap stepped in and started to move my arm in a purposeful method (Emma, on the right). I asked the guests to then use our arms as a pointer to ask simple yes and no questions. So a yes was pointing at one person, a no another person.

Several questions were asked by the guests and this is when it transpired that this spirit was a Solicitor, he also didn’t like his job as he found it boring. We also found out that he was a local man who in his day lived in the countryside (now this is part of Brighton) and that he was married and had two boys. Apparently he lived a happy life, but just didn’t enjoy his job.

After quickly looking through the wash room area so that the guests could read some of the macabre stories about the Museum and the murders and criminals who were imprisoned here we finished the session.

The third group, who have attended numerous ghost hunts with us and are collectively called “The Boo Club” I didn’t need to explain what we were about to do. However several people who will remain anonymous were very jumpy looking down to the entrance of the room, they kept saying that it “freaked them out” and none of them really wanted to stand with their backs to the doorway. Both spirits were still present and very quickly started to move and lift our arms, some of the positions were more painful than others and the spirit were able to move the majority of people. Rusty (guest & new member of the Boo Club) stood next to me because he wanted to experience the movements, the rest of the guests had no problem with this as they knew what was going to happen!

Very quickly the whole group were being manipulated and arms twisted and entangled with each other and people forced to move into extremely painful positions, at one point two guests (who usually stand together, Mark & Darren) who this time stood far away from each other each ended up on the floor, both of them were pushed down wards by their heads and both at one point but at different times had their heads touching the floor. Several times various people were pushed into others and at one point most of us were on the floor on top of someone else, this proved to be a lot of amusement for Carl (who was now successfully filming) and the two spirit energies.

In a rare moment when were we all standing upright, after being pulled one by one around the circle, we all heard a loud crash of paperwork, everyone in the room was suddenly very awake and alert and Carl was swearing. This was because a box file of paperwork which was on the top shelf above Carl suddenly fell or jumped from its position on the shelf and landed on the opposite side on the gangway (so really not a fall, as things don’t fall in arcs, unless pushed). Even though it happened in front of Carl it wasn’t recorded because the box file fell above the camera’s view point. Which is a great shame, but you can definitely hear the sound and the resulting swearing on the video!

After we finished getting up from the floor for the fifth or sixth time, I suggested that people stand at the end of the gangways to see if something would happen to them, like the first group. The majority of people who stood in a particular spot all got pushed or pulled, some quite violently, which did unnerve them.

After briefly spending time in the washroom part of this area, as there was a spirit in the wash rooms who didn’t like us and impolitely asked us to leave. He was a Policeman from the 1970s who seemed to have the belief that he was a Policeman “do as I say” not “what I do” personality.

After our controlled sessions finished all guests were allowed then to venture throughout the building and hold their own ghost hunt or participate in activities they enjoyed during our controlled sessions and as always we let them use our ghost hunting equipment.

This was a very enjoyable ghost hunt with the majority of the guests having some form of physical paranormal activity happen to them.

Theatre Royal ghost hunt – 18-1-2014

Theatre Royal ghost hunt 18th January 2014
Margate, Kent

This was the second visit to the Theatre Royal for us, last year we thoroughly enjoyed the venue but didn’t investigate the place to its full extent, this year we corrected that and everyone who attended the event had a great paranormal night, with many unexplained phenomena taking place.

Even before the guests had arrived Carl, Jason and myself had a strange experience in the Green Room (Backstage). Jason was showing us yet another new torch and just as he was about to put it back in his bag he heard a voice say “Hold on to that”, he thought I said it, which I didn’t, I thought Carl had said it, which he didn’t and Carl heard the voice but didn’t know who said it. This we all found very strange!

For the duration of our controlled sessions, which there were three, I had the backstage area, both on the stage and below the stage, although the understage area was the most interesting, back stage had a creepy feel about it one reason for this may be because the stage floor isn’t level which is off putting when standing in virtual darkness.

The first group to the understage we were joined by a male spirit energy called David Askwith who was aged about 25 years old and was from the 1840s era and well dressed in a black three piece suit with a top hat. David was a strange character because whilst he had moments of being a proper gentleman he also had moments of being what we would call simple.

After asking for all our hands to be moved eventually David accomplished this feat, he also took a liking to certain people within the group and those guests received much more activity than anyone else. Shirley was one of these people and David used various guests’ hands to rub her face and tie our arms up, especially with Emma (guest). On various occasions Shirley and I were dragged by our arms towards the floor but didn’t touch the floor that often, just held us in an uncomfortable position. When asking for us to be moved in some other way the majority of the guests were swayed and pushed, some of the guests were swayed in a circular motion whilst other were just swayed forwards and backwards, much to our amusement for those of us who weren’t swayed.

The second group to the understage experienced much greater arm movement which happened before I had even asked for it. David had got the hand of moving us and very quickly this descended into and unusual game of twister! Many of the guests were being manipulated to touch other faces and stomachs and once again David had his favourites, these people were moved in ways which they neither expected nor could resist against and according to Carl (GHE Camera) it looked very odd on camera! The event video will be published before 15th February 2014. Various times half of the guests were dragged by their arms to the floor whilst the other half were lifted by their arms towards the ceiling. This strange game we all found very amusing as no-one could predict which group of people were about to be moved nor how it would affect those who were already being moved.

The third group to the understage area didn’t experience any real movements at all, just some light arm movement between a couple of guests and the same guests feeling a gentle sway. This was generally because when asking the guests to encourage spirit to move them or talk, no-one responded, very few people said anything at all which resulted in nothing much happening to them. I always tell all guests at the start of the ghost hunt that the more they talk and engage with each other the more is likely to happen, standing in virtual silence I can guarantee nothing much will occur, which is exactly what happened with this group.

After we finished our controlled sessions all guests were allowed to wander freely around the venue to hold their own ghost hunt with many guests participating in Ouija board sessions and more table tilting experiments. Some guests just quietly sat in various parts of the building to see if they could experience something paranormal on their own or to watch others participating in an activity. Many guests really enjoyed the ghost hunt and had paranormal activity happen to them that they could not explain or activity that defied logic and physics.

We also really enjoyed the Theatre Royal ghost hunt and are hoping to return to the venue again.

There will be an edited event video published of this event and there are some clips of the table tilting/spinning at:-

Fort Borstal ghost hunt – 7-12-2013

Wednesday, January 15th, 2014

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 7th December 2013
Rochester, Kent.

Fort Borstal is one of the special places that we go to where we have had so much in the past, but every time we return we don’t really know what to expect, tonight was one of those nights with lots of physical paranormal activity felt, noises heard and strange phenomena that we have no seen here before.

After splitting the whole group into three smaller groups everyone headed off into different directions and as usual I chose the double Counterscarp Galleries as they are in my view the most spiritually active areas of the Fort. Paranormal stuff always happens here and usually when it is a good night something that has never happened before affects everyone.

The first group to this area we were joined quite quickly by a male spirit who often frequents this area; Captain Daniel Bedford, a First World Soldier. After forming a séance circle Captain Daniel was able to move the arms of some people quite quickly, others took a while to move. He proceeded to start with gentle arm movement which each guest in turn was able to ask in their heads which way their arms should move and Daniel moved the guests arms, it even worked this way when other people asked for someone else’s arms to be moved.

After this gentle arm movement Daniel moved on to pushing and swaying some people, this too was also quite gentle, but purposeful. He also used our arms collectively to push Dave’s (guest) chin up as he kept saying “Stand Tall” as Dave was a tall person who generally had to look down at everyone. Dave and John (guests) we both pushed towards the centre of the circle several times. I and the people either side of me were also pulled by our arms down towards the floor, but we never actually touched the floor. This is quite a common experience in this room with this spirit. Both Dean and Darren (guests) also experienced this arm movement and some gentle pushing but not the same level as John & Dave.

The second group to this area Captain Daniel joined us very quickly and even before I had finished the do’s and don’ts he had already started to move some of the guests but mostly concentrated on Russ. This quickly moved on to Simon and most of this group of friends felt arm movement, which was mostly on command but Daniel got bored of this and did whatever he wanted. This mainly involved everyone getting twisted and tangled up on one side of the circle, the other side of the circle they experienced some light arm movement but it was not of the same calibre because those questions kept questioning the movements and wanted their arms to be moved as and when they wanted, whereas Daniel wanted to move their hands when he wanted to not when asked.

Various time through this session some people were pulled backwards towards the far wall and pulled towards the back wall. This is activity that I have seen in this room before although not for many months.

During one of the strange twisting sessions Russ felt a punch to his stomach, which surprisingly came out of the blue as I usually get a milliseconds notice before something like this happens so that I can warn the guests. This particular time this didn’t happen and it certainly didn’t happen when a bit later Simon felt a punch in his face, this too came as a surprise to me and an unwarranted surprise to Simon!

Also during this session Russ and Simon were pulled to the floor with other people’s hands pushing downwards on Russ’ head. When I asked for the spirit to do something different to end the session we were all pulled and pushed out of the room. Russ said that whilst he was trying to fight the sensation he wasn’t having any luck withstanding it and either had to move or fall over!

This sensation has happened once before and only happens to certain people, although this time was much better because there was little anyone could do to avoid being moved, which as a Medium I like because in a way it proves the spirit are stronger than we are, if they want to move someone they can and will.

The third group to this area were very scared and nervous of doing this activity because they were all on a Hen party, and they thought it was going to be scary, however after an initial nervous movement and when everyone felt the gentle movements that Daniel was able to inflict on the guests they all settled down. Once this happened Daniel was able to move everyone very easily everyone felt their arms move. The guests were all able to ask Daniel to move their arms to point at certain people or to touch others. However Daniel was quickly able to move all the guests and gently sway and push people. He even pulled some of the guests backwards and made them feel like they were on a boat (Julie). The Hen (Alicia) said something in her head and almost immediately Daniel moved her hands and mine to make her salute. This is something that I have never seen this spirit do to anyone he before.

This very quickly moved on to him standing behind certain people and when he did so they could feel a strange coldness, this is not a normal cold as it felt like someone had just opened a refrigerator door behind people and the two people either side of the person who felt the coldness felt nothing. I moved around the circle (as the sprit finds moving me a lot easier) so that everyone could feel this strange sensation. However when I made the final move the two people either side of me felt a strange warmness and this was generally followed by either the guests arms moving or mine and theirs arms being dragged down towards the floor to touch our shoes or stroke someone’s lower leg and my hands were placed on the floor (as it is dusty) and then placed on someone’s jacket or stroking their shoulders which left a white dusty mark. Some of this group were wearing whistles, which Daniel had great delight in touching and pushing. There was also another spirit in the next room; a former prisoner, who coincidentally help build the place but passed away whilst doing so. He didn’t interact with the session but I could hear him laughing a lot.

After these controlled sessions we then let the guests roam throughout the fort and re-visit areas and rooms that they had visited and some areas that they had not visited in our controlled sessions. This part of the night we allow the guests to venture off with some of our ghost hunting equipment. Many of the guests thoroughly enjoyed this time and had lots of spiritual contact on our electronic ghost hunting equipment and they noted that some of the areas had lots of spiritual activity which was shown or displayed on the equipment.

This was a very enjoyable ghost hunt with lots of physical paranormal activity felt by the guests. Some guests whilst off on their own heard footsteps and other strange noises which could not be explained because they were the only people in those areas.

Let’s hope the event that we have planned here for 2014 are just as active and enjoyable.

Fort Borstal ghost hunt – 16-11-2013

Wednesday, January 15th, 2014

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 16th November 2013
Rochester, Kent

Fort Borstal is one of my favourite ghost hunting locations, not least because we have access to the majority of the Fort; two counterscarp galleries, the caponier, the officer’s mess, the front casements, the second world war command post, all the tunnels and an underground magazine room but also because the level of activity never ceases to amaze us as a team. Paranormal occurrences seem to happen more or less on command throughout this fort.

As always I chose the double counterscarp gallery for my sessions, the reason why I choose this is because of a number of factors, but the main one is that time and time again the same paranormal phenomena happens to the guests and it is always of a physical nature.

The first group that I took to the gallery were quite nervous to start with, probably because it was complete darkness apart from my red cap light. The red light is used so that it doesn’t affect anyone’s night vision yet people are able to see what is happening to each other.

We were joined quite quickly by a spirit that I have seen within these galleries before, his name was Bernard and he was aged in his early 30s, quite muscular and tall at 6’5”, certainly not someone who you would argue with. He seems to be a spirit from the 1880s and talks of his time when the place was being constructed.

Upon asking for Bernard to move the hands and arms of the guests as well as sway or move people unusually he started by swaying people and making some of the guests fall into other guests, usually without any warning whatsoever. Normally most spirits no matter where we are start by gently lifting or moving arms of the guests. Bernard was different, first he pushed and pulled some people in all directions and then he moved on to lifting peoples arms.

He was very quickly able to push and drag people down to the floor and drag my hands on the floor, then without much warning he pushed and pulled the guests in all directions but his focus seemed to be just two female guests. For some reason he moved both of them towards a wall, but not the same wall, he chose the two walls that were at the back of the room. People had the simple of choice of allow the spirit to pull or push them to a wall or fall over.

Bernard quite happily pushed all of the guests in some way and he was later joined by another spirit friend; Justin who was slightly older at 38 years old and of a smaller build. Justin however didn’t really participate in the moving of the guests, he just stood nearby and laughed a lot. I got the feeling that both of these spirit would have been fun characters in life and slightly mischievous.

On asking for us all to be moved firstly Jason (GHE camera) heard a breathing sound behind him and then without any warning whatsoever all the guests were swayed or pushed backwards and then very quickly pushed and twisted around each other so that most of us had our backs to another person.

Some guests also felt very cold spots within the room as they were being moved around although we know this is not due to any environmental reason as the whole gallery is sealed from the outside elements and there is only one door (which was closed) into the area.

On many occasions various people were pushed to the floor and not only were they pulled down, but once kneeling down on the floor they were then pulled by their hands and arms further onto the floor so that their whole body was in contact with the floor. Even though many guests tried to resist this sensation no-one was able to stop the overbearing force and once on the floor those guests could not get back up no matter how hard they tried. The majority of the guests said that it felt like a great weight was holding their legs down.

At one point Bernard pushed and pulled us all out of the room (this has happened before in this room) as many guests felt like they were being watched. Once out of the room the sensations and the movements increased because there was a bigger space to fill and the two spirit energies had no trouble dragging us out of the room.

Toward the end of the session Bernard was moving the guests in such a way that it could have become dangerous as people were being moved very quickly and with such force that other guests could not anticipate which way someone was about to move. I ended the session because it could have been very painful if someone was pushed over or pushed/pulled into a wall.

The second group to this area started much the same, with some guests being moved and manipulated in much the same way, but this session started more slowly although Bernard was responsible for some of the movement, Justin was the main spirit who was touching and pushing people. Whenever someone asked for their hands or arms to be moved in some way Justin obliged and it did get a bit weird with various peoples’ hands touching the shoulders and stomachs of others.

When I asked for either spirit to start to push or rock people the resulting movements were much gentler and everyone at one point had their arms raised or pulled backwards which was rather uncomfortable for some.

Once again though, the majority of people were pulled downwards to the floor from their arms and the guests once realising that they were not in control of their movements, let the spirit move them however they wished.

Although the force was not the same of the first group, there was still a lot of arms and hands being dragged down to the floor, many of the guests were unable to restrict or control their movement and once again those guests that were pulled down were also pushed and moved whilst on the floor, although the energy was not as powerful.

As soon as I started to ask the spirit to move us all in a different direction, I heard a faint whistle which sounded like it came from the other end of the tunnel complex, although no-one else heard anything at the time.

Jason also felt and thought that he saw shadows behind some of the guests. Considering that Jason was filming in IR (Infra-Red) light the only light source was my red light (which doesn’t really show up on the recorded footage because I point it at the floor) but he could see the shadows behind some guests and he commented that the shadows moved around the circle behind certain people. These were also the guests that were moving more frequently.

One of the guests also felt his left leg was being raised as it had lifted about 4 inches off the ground. When I asked that the spirit lift it higher the only thing that moved upwards was my arms with another guest. Although the guest that had their leg in the air was unable to put their foot back on the floor.

This was a very enjoyable, and for my sessions a, physical ghost hunt with every guest being eventually moved in some way that they could not explain as the spirit seemed to be playing a game with us. We would call this twister but the guests had called for the spirit to move us like the okey cokey which they dutifully accepted and accomplished.

St Augustine’s Priory ghost hunt – 22-11-2013

Sunday, January 12th, 2014

St Augustine’s Priory ghost hunt 22nd November 2013
Bilsington, Kent

This was one ghost hunt which I have been looking forward to for some time, because I held a ghost hunt here many years ago and knew of the potential so I was very keen to explore this venue further. We were not disappointed.

I decided to hold all my sessions in the coldest part of the building, the tower. These two rooms also had many “extras” namely deceased animals of some kind which always puts people’s mind at rest!

After forming a séance circle in one of the more interesting rooms I asked the spirit to step forward and we were immediately joined by Maxwell (Max) an RAF Officer from the Second World War who was stationed at St Augustine’s during the war years. Max was a square build, aged in his late 40s or early 50s, about 5’11” in height, short brown curly hair, and he wore a moustache and talked exactly how you would expect an officer in the RAF to sound.

After asking Max to move people in any way he could, he started moving my arms which quickly progressed to moving other people’s arms including Jeff (guest) who rarely feels any movement at our ghost hunts, much to Jeff’s surprise. Various people had their arms moved, chests and stomachs prodded and arms stroked. I then asked if he could push people, which started quickly as well and he was able to push and pull guests and sway them as well as lift their arms above their heads, so much so that some people were standing on their tip toes to reach. We were also pulled downwards by our hands to the floor but this was mostly the people either side of me.

Whilst all this was going on I was aware of another spirit who was standing in the doorway, he was about 17 or 18 years old and from a much earlier period of time but he didn’t really tell me much about himself, just kept laughing at all the strange positions we were pulled into.

After we finished this séance we went upstairs, this is the loft room which has roof beams which are about 5’ from the floor so the majority of people had to duck to walk between them. Standing here many people felt that they were being pushed and swayed. We were not holding hands which each other, just standing alone in the dark, this made the sensation even more scary because there was nothing anyone could see, it was pitch black darkness. The spirit that was responsible for this was called Brian, he was a gardener of the house during the 1950s, who had a long black well trimmed beard and he delighted in himself that he could push and sway people.

After a short break the second group of people joined me in the tower, once again I started the séance in the first two rooms and Max joined us again. He never actually left. This time the movements were much gentler and slower as the people present were too busy talking about other things and not encouraging him to do anything to them. However I was still being moved and the two people either side of me were being manipulated and dragged downwards to the floor. Max seemed obsessed with some of the footwear that the guests were wearing and used my hands to touch and stroke each person’s shoe. During one part of the session I and the people beside me had our hands pulled across the circle and when a guest asked not to be touched I thought I heard a voice say “Sorry”, but no-one else heard this sound and no-one said that they said anything. However because this session wasn’t recorded on video I cannot check to see if this was made by anyone in the room or whether it was a spirit voice.

From here we moved up to attic room and similar sensations were felt by these guests that the first group encountered. However one guest felt very emotional and could sense a female energy, I too saw the female spirit but could not hear what she was saying. This particular guest was crying because of what the female energy was saying and doing. The female energy was crying and saddened by some children. She kept repeating the phrase “what about the children, the poor children”. What this referred to is a mystery but hopefully this information will come to light in the coming weeks. (We have researchers who are looking for more historical information about the Priory, especially from the war years because this information will be freely available shortly).

The third group to the tower rooms have been on several of our ghost hunts and call themselves “The Boo Club” and are very open to spirit which made Max happy as he was very quickly able to move people and our arms and push people against other people and drag others across the room. This was the only session of mine which was recorded on video and Carl (GHE team) who was recording the video had to constantly move because every time he had a good view of what was going on people were being moved and twisted so that Carl didn’t have a good view. The shorter members of the group were lifted by their arms and then suddenly Max decided that he could twist people into very uncomfortable positions. We were moved, twisted, swayed and rocked into extremely painful positions and people who were on the opposite side of the circle to me were somehow now beside me. When Max had finished moving us which took about 5 minutes. It then took us another 10 minutes to figure out how we could untangle ourselves without letting our hands go. Max found this absolutely hilarious as we could not figure out how some people had ended up where they stood and how our hands had become so entwined.

After all this exercise we went upstairs to the loft room and after seeing some of the Second World War graffiti and some of the more modern 1970s graffiti we stood in complete darkness without holding hands. However the same male spirit was present but didn’t move or sway people like he did with the other groups, but many people felt the floor vibrate.

I then decided to tap lightly on one of the beams and asked for Brian to repeat the sound, instantly we heard a similar knocking sound although everyone heard it, we all thought it came from different directions. Tapping several other times, the whole sound (i.e. 3 taps) were not heard, but we did hear a single tap in each response. It seemed the quieter I was able to tap on the beam the more likely Brian was able to copy or repeat the sound. Every time I tapped we all heard a response. As the session was proceeding the responses were getting better, but not louder which was a shame.

Hopefully there will be a next time at this venue that we can explore this further.

During the free time session I joined a group downstairs in part of the cellar/kitchen on a Ouija board. Although I don’t know who the spirit was, he was a recent passing as he uttered the word Zebedee whilst we were using a new addition to our kit, the Spring Ouija board.

I also joined some guests upstairs in the same room as all the pushing had taken place and they were holding a séance, they also had a spirit box (a device that scans the FM radio frequencies in reverse at 100ms) running in the background. During their séance there were many voices including lots of laughing and people’s names (of their group) being called out.

I was able to stand behind the group and ask for the spirit (who wasn’t Max, but all I know is that this spirit smoked a pipe as I could smell it) to push and manipulate people just by pointing at a person behind their backs or by pointing to the person above their heads. This worked extremely well and became very amusing for me because I was able to ask the spirit for something in my head so that no-one knew what was being asked for and a few minutes later the guests that I asked for this activity to happen to occurred.

I also asked for the spirit to do something to everyone at the same time and I also didn’t say this out loud and some people started to move how I had asked and then the spirit made everyone move. I asked for all their hands to be lifted and joined in the centre of the circle and then when everyone was touching hands about shoulder height I asked for the rest of the manoeuvre which occurred very quickly much to the surprise of the guests. Their hands were all lifted above their heads. This is what I call the “Three Musketeers salute” and the guests sarcastically thanked me for this! From my perspective this was very funny as it is not often that I can get the spirit in the room to do what I ask when I am not part of the séance group. However this time this all worked perfectly.

No EVP’s (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voices) were recorded throughout the night as it was either too windy or there were periods of rain which made at a lot of noise on the walls and roof. This would have drowned out any noise of a spirit talking.

This was a very enjoyable ghost hunt with a venue that has lots of potential and one which we will hopefully be able to return to in 2014. Many of the guests had a very entertaining and some weird and strange paranormal activity happen to them.

Toys Hill ghost hunt – 22-9-2013

Toys Hill and Weardale Manor ghost hunt 22nd September 2013
Toys Hill, Kent

After making our way through the fairly spooky path to the site of the old manor house and handed out to the guests some of our ghost hunting equipment, spiritual activity was noticed and spotted on the various electronic gadgets quite quickly. I then left the guests to wander around the various parts of the grounds and joined them intermittently as different parts of the grounds guests feel and can interact with different spiritual energies.

Whilst I was near to the terraces a familiar male spirit was seen. His name is Alfred and he would have been a head butler in the house. He often stands at the edges until I ask for him to do something physical to a guest, like a gentle touch or push.

There were many spirit present, which is nothing unusual, but it is rare for them to interact with us unless there are asked to join in, otherwise they just watch with curiosity.

Many guests were getting meaningful communication on various pieces of equipment and as I joined several groups of people I was able to tell them details about the spirit that they had not thought of asking or couldn’t get meaningful responses on the electronic equipment. Many female spirit energies were spotted and toward the end of this session a brother & sister who were about 8 years old had taken a liking to one of the guests and followed her around the site.

From the manor house we descended into the very spooky woods, the walk into the woods is scarier in appearance than actually being in the woods but that is because there are so many trees which are exposed out of the ground or knocked over by the strong winds that occur on this hillside.

Once in a familiar place in the woods I started a séance circle so that all the guests could experience a physical paranormal encounter. We were joined by a spirit that I have seen on a couple of previous occasions. He was called Edward and was a local Engineer. Aged in his late 50s and mostly bald with dark brown and grey hair on the back and sides.

Edward started by doing exactly what I asked; to gently move the hands of some of the guests and myself and the three people either side of me felt our hands gently move and when I asked the guests to ask in their heads or for others Edward did exactly what anyone asked with regard to moving hands. After a while Edward obviously got bored of doing what we asked and then started to do what he wanted, which seemed to be to stroke the shoulder of a particular guest, which she found a little odd, although it didn’t frighten her.

Many guests reported that when my hands were near to them they could feel a lot of heat coming from my hands even when I wasn’t touching them.

During this time other guests were gently swayed and rocked from side to side then all of a sudden the two people either side of me were pulled backwards, then pushed forwards and then pulled downwards by our hands towards the ground, which none of us wanted to touch because it was a little muddy!

The séance came to an abrupt end because one person couldn’t follow the simple instruction not to break the circle and due to this incident another guest was feeling unwell and faint and this guest required some attention by me.

I then held an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiment

There were several responses but unfortunately not all of them could be understood, the best ones can be heard at: –

http://youtu.be/sNA-NF6UPZw
http://youtu.be/BDbIJDnlM-M
http://youtu.be/CGLd6-QtsUU
http://youtu.be/Cguod3ku0C4

After this I turned on my spirit box (a device that scans the FM radio bands at 100ms in reverse) and asked for Edward to say something to us or said one of the guests’ names. Many random words were heard but no answers to our questions.

Once again a very enjoyable ghost hunt and one is which many guests had a physical paranormal encounter or were able to have some kind of communication with the spirits that reside within the grounds of the old manor house.

Fort Horsted ghost hunt 21-9-2013

Fort Horsted ghost hunt 21st September 2013
Chatham, Kent

As ever the team always like returning to Fort Horsted as we always have interesting nights, sometimes though the ghost hunt is exceptional, this was one of those nights!

After separating the group into teams of three we set off to our nominated areas, I usually choose one of two areas, but for this event I had chosen I room that I first had a great experience, as did the guests that were with me.

The room was one of the old magazine rooms and the farthest walk from the rest of the groups so we could be fairly sure that there would be no noise pollution.

We were joined by Geoffrey, a lieutenant in the Army from the Second World War, he was aged in his late-20s or early 30s and came from Lincolnshire. Also present was another Second World War soldier called Paul who was a quieter or shy spirit. Both of them seem to have a funny side to their nature.

On asking these spirits to touch or move people slowly some people’s arms started to move and quite quickly various people’s arms started to stroke the arms of other people in the séance circle as well as pushing people’s chins up (as if to say stand up straight). Some guests arms were pulled to the floor and hands dragged on the floor.

One of the spirits kept calling one of the guests “Teddy Bear” which at first I ignored but after a while realised there must be a reason for this and told the male guest what the spirit was telling him. He was a little surprised because there was a family link with the phrase Teddy Bear.

I moved around the circle as some people on the opposite side of the circle to me were not feeling any movement. Once I had moved various people on this side of the circle started to feel their arms move and on command and once again there was some gentle pushing and pulling back felt by the guests. Some people were also dragged to the floor by their arms and had their hands dragged on the floor. Those that didn’t get dragged to the floor had felt the spirit energies gently rock them, either forwards and backwards or side to side.

During this séance we all heard footsteps further down the corridor, usually this sounds like someone approaching which is exactly what we heard but as ever no-one arrives. There were also sounds of chatter or mumbling but because of the acoustics of the room it is very hard to know which direction the sounds are coming from.

At the end of the session I held an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiment. During the recording we all heard a strange whistle after one person spoke, although nothing was recorded. There were several ghost voices on the recording but unfortunately many of them were either too quiet or tainted with some other noise (either someone speaking or moving their feet). There were however two clear EVPs which can be heard at:-

http://youtu.be/NBL7voeb9CQ
http://youtu.be/BQNZUBQnBko

The second group to this area (of which some have been to this Fort before and other had been on other ghost hunts of ours) knew exactly what to do during the séance. The two spirits from the first session were still present and almost immediately after I asked for the guests arms to be moved, the spirits complied and moved lots of people arms and pushing them into uncomfortable positions. One guest (Darren) wanted to see how far the spirits could push him and it was no surprise to me, but he ended up on his back on the floor!

We were also joined by a different spirit; a Colour Sergeant or Sergeant Major (the terminology depends on the division), this particular spirit was a very strict man although he was able to move people with greater force and stood behind one particular guest (Mark), the reason for this was apparent afterwards. Mark could feel a strange coldness behind him and Jo (who was next to Mark) also felt a sharp stabbing pain in her back, she said like a needle was pressed into her back. Another guest was afraid to look at the only doorway into the room, but this is a normal experience and exactly why I chose this room because that is what has happened to the majority of the guests that come to this Fort.

The Colour Sergeant wouldn’t tell me his name, but he had the demeanour of a man that if he asked you to jump, you would say, how high? He was 6 foot tall, quite strong looking build and quite muscular, he wore a moustache and had long sideburns that were down to his chin. He also wore the usual green fatigues and a cap with a red stripe. He also held a knotted/rope thing which at the time I didn’t know what it was, but have since found out this was called a swagger stick.

The Colour Sergeant stood directly behind Mark and he commented that he felt a thumb pushed into his back. (After we finished the session Mark told me that his father would do exactly the same thing when he was younger).

When asking for any of the spirits to make a noise, everyone heard the sound of a footstep, which Darren and I heard a noise that came from directly between us and since we were both looking at the floor, we each knew that neither of us moved.

Some other guests heard breathing noises behind them which became very unnerving.

At the end of this session I held another EVP experiment and since the majority of this group had been on a ghost hunt, they knew to be quiet. There were lots of spirit voices after the questions asked but unfortunately not all of them we could understand but out of 8 people there were 4 clear responses which can be heard at:-

http://youtu.be/CxF6YFMmSfU
http://youtu.be/0SujixcN1so
http://youtu.be/OLIq0cq0b3Q
http://youtu.be/vDTrIeQRZq8

The third and final group session in this same room the spirit energy of the Colour Sergeant and Geoffrey joined us and once again asking for the spirit to move arms of the guests resulted in some gentle but purposeful movements, most of the time on command i.e. when people asked for their arms to be moved (in their heads) their arms moved, obviously there is no way the person who was holding their hand knew that one of them had asked and was surprised when both their arms moved.

There was also some gentle pushing and swaying which some of the guests found unnerving but I find it is an excellent way to prove that people are not doing it themselves because it is very difficult to sway backwards because if you were doing it yourself you would not be able to see or know what you would fall into.

There was also some rubbing of people arms and shoulders with other people’s hands and once again some people were pulled by their hands to the floor, many of which didn’t want to touch the floor but no matter what they said (the guests) they ended up with their hands on the floor.

This was the only session of mine which was filmed (see the link below) and whilst Jason (GHE team Cameraman) was standing in the doorway to the tunnel he could feel a spirit near to him, this was a female energy, a nurse called Annie which I have seen at this Fort before. There was also another soldier from the Second World War; Alfred standing behind Jason and he commented several times that he could hear whispering and movement behind him.

After our controlled sessions we allow (as always) the guests to venture off to any area of the Fort under our guidance so that they can hold their own vigil or ghost hunt and use our ghost hunting equipment.

I joined a group in an area known as casement 10 and there was a male spirit in his mid-50s wandering about the rooms, he is a maintenance man and I have seen him before in this area. Whilst nothing exciting happened, some noises we heard and the guests that were here felt uncomfortable because it felt like someone was watching them. Other groups that used this casement in earlier groups reported the same thing.

Several guests went to the most interesting part of the Fort; The Counterscarp Galleries and held a séance where two people were pushed to floor in a strange way.

This session was filmed and can be watched at: – http://youtu.be/1x5LFzjS1Co

The full event video can be watched at: – http://www.ghosthuntevents.tv/#clip=819617

This was a very active ghost hunt with all groups getting some excellent paranormal activity.

Old Police Cells Museum ghost hunt – 13-9-2013

Wednesday, October 23rd, 2013

The Old Police Cells Museum ghost hunt 13th September 2013
Brighton, East Sussex

The first time that we came to this venue for a ghost hunt was so good we had to revisit it, just to see if the same sensations were experienced.

This time one group had both the male and female cell area to investigate through a one hour session and I took the lower washroom and un-renovated areas.

Starting in the library part of the building, although to call it a library is not right, more a dumping ground for all the things the Town Council don’t know what to do with. We came across a spirit energy who called himself Titan. He was about 5’ tall with grey hair on the back and sides and a small beard and in a way reminded me of a gnome.

Whilst we were in this area some odd noises were heard but little else, I was hoping for some movements like the last visit, but no-one felt anything. Moving back to the washroom and as soon as we entered the far end of the room where the toilets were situated a large male spirit energy came to join us. His name was Adrian and he was a muscular 6’5” policeman from about 1870s. You would not have messed with him! The person who was standing nearest to where Adrian stood felt cold shivers. Asking Adrian to make a noise didn’t unfortunately happen although when asking for him to move people, the only person to be moved was me, which slightly defeated the point of asking.

Many photos were taken and various light anomalies or orbs were photographed. Lots of communication occurred on our electronic equipment and some odd levels of KII (EMF) energy were detected.

The second group to the washroom felt uncomfortable in the library part and one particular guest felt that we should not be in this room as she felt extremely unwelcome. Another guest (who had chosen to wear a policeman’s uniform since visiting the male holding cells in the first session) felt odd and changing cold spots in certain parts of the room. The rest of us tried to find a breeze or at least feel it but none of us could feel what the guest felt.

Once again lots of electronic communication enabled the guests to get some answers to their questions and the strange levels of KII still existed but not in the same areas or rooms seen by the first group. The high levels of KII seen with the first group in the toilet and washroom area had now moved into the library area and the end of the store room.

After everyone had visited the cells and washrooms we all went upstairs to the council chamber room, as I hadn’t visited this room before and whilst we all felt some strange sensations within the room, the level of spirit activity was minimal. It was not due to the amount of spirits as there were two prominent spirits; one was a cleaner from the turn of the 20th Century and the other was a Security guard from 1980s called Derek Jacobs, who worked part time as a local builder.

But neither of these spirits seemed to want to interact with us and touch us. They did however make some noises but unfortunately the rain was louder in this room as the rain lashed on the windows making hearing anything other than the rain very difficult and always left us questioning whether it was spirit or the weather that was responsible for the noises.

We are looking forward to 2014 when we will return to see whether the first ghost hunt or the second ghost hunt activities can be repeated. Plus we will bring some of our hearing enhancement equipment to try to hear the strange noises that we have heard on both occasions.

Toys Hill ghost hunt – 23-8-2013

Toys Hill and Weardale Manor ghost hunt 23rd August 2013
Toys Hill, Kent

The weather forecast for this event wasn’t brilliant with an anticipation of rain and thunderstorms due, however and fortunately for us this stormy weather never materialised. The night however was relatively warm and the view from the top of the hill was somewhat murky, usually there is a nice view of the South Downs. The paranormal activity started in a very typical way, but as the night progressed so did the activity.

Around the Manor house in what I believe to be the hub of the house I handed out some of our electronic gadgets and after telling people to turn their phones off or to put them onto flight mode the EMF (Electro Magnetic Field) detectors started to show spikes of activity with several “hot spots” becoming apparent. The guests wandered freely around the site trying to communicate with the spirits and I joined various people in different parts of the site. On the terraces there was a varied amount of spirit energies, one of which was called David who was in his early 20s and whilst he didn’t say what he did for a living he was obviously an outdoor worker as he wore heavy and dirty boots. The guests were able to ask him personal questions and get sensible answers. Many guests also took photos during this time and some had light anomalies (orbs) whilst other had more interesting mists that appeared at the edge of their photos but not all the photos, it was like the spirits were teasing us.

I also saw a butler, probably the senior butler Alfred who didn’t interact with anyone, he did watch us closely, although I have seen this particular spirit before.

Various groups of people whilst wandering around had electronic communication with different spirits including a maid called Alice who was in her 20s and of a slim build, with light brown hair neatly tied at the back, who was attracted to the younger members of our group.

After telling the guests about certain smells that people in the past have smelt at this site which are nothing to do with the woods and parkland today but not telling what type of smells one guest said that she thought she smelt floor polish but didn’t tell me immediately as she thought that it sounded silly or part of her imagination.

From here we moved to the woods, as the séances that I hold in the woods have an altogether different feeling, it is also strangely active in one particular part. On forming a circle and explaining what would happen or might happen several guests arms started to move and when I asked them to ask the spirit whose name was Edward (also a spirit I have met before here) their arms moved on command. Another guest also commented that he felt very warm and even hot on his back, whereas the person standing next to him, felt cold on her back.

After Edward had moved the arms of all of the guests that he could (not everyone) he then proceeded to sway, push and pull backwards other people. Many of these were pushed or pulled back in unison and at one point four people were all moving in exactly the same way, which were small circular motions. One of the younger guests was pulled back more frequently than anyone else and he likened it to being on a boat.

At the end of the séance I asked all guests to think of a question to ask Edward as part of an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice experiment). The results of which can be heard below

http://youtu.be/fT-IBwXPX4I

http://youtu.be/Dy0Pqdf1sQo

http://youtu.be/EArduB9W9Gs

http://youtu.be/0XPupJUVtPk

After this I also tried to use my spirit box (a device that scans the AM or FM radio stations in reverse at 100ms) but unfortunately this didn’t work very well, as for some reason it picked up lots of normal radio signals (usually there are no radio signals in the woods) and whilst I thought I did hear some voices, there was too much radio interference to be positive of this.

Setting up the laser grid also had its own problems as every set of batteries that I put into the device drained almost immediately and I used 5 sets of batteries in a matter of minutes. This phenomena happened frequently on this particular evening, various people had their camera batteries drain almost as soon as they turned them on. This has not happened here before.

After leaving the woods and heading back towards the manor house area, the KII EMF meters and communicators all came back to life with lots of spikes and communication.

All in all a very interesting ghost hunt with some good physical activity felt by the majority of the guests that they could not explain or find a rational answer.

Spooky Inn ghost hunt – 17-8-2013

Tuesday, October 1st, 2013

Spooky Inn Paranormal Investigation and Ghost Hunt 17th August 2013
Minster, Kent

This was the first paranormal investigation that we have held. Not to be confused with our ghost hunts, our paranormal investigation events are where we set up our remote cameras and have dedicated rooms within the venue for different activities and where only one group of people are investigating at a time, with the other investigation team watching on the cameras what the other group are doing.

The whole point of this type of event is for everyone present to use some of the more interesting and scientific tools that we use which will include using more of our ghost hunting equipment to gather evidence.

The hope is that whilst one group is investigating then if any noises are heard we can quickly verify with the monitoring team if they heard anything and with so many cameras (we have over 30) there is every chance that whatever the anomaly, it would have been recorded.

This was the first time that we had set up this venue with the majority of our cameras, although due to cabling issues we didn’t have time to set up all the cameras, however we did have a camera in every room.

The event also enabled us to review the audio recordings as we progressed with the investigation so that the guests could hear the responses to their questions immediately.

During the first session lots of banging was heard by both the investigation team and the monitoring team, not always from the same place and although the building had many doors, it wasn’t windy and we couldn’t re-create the sound that various people heard.

There was a young male spirit called Timmy who was about 8 or 9 years old and stood by the investigation group and many of those in the investigation group felt that there was a child around. Various spikes were noted on the MEL meters as well as fluctuations in temperature.

EVPs (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiments were undertaken by guests and whilst nothing could be heard at the time or in the immediate analysis on the night, our analysis has found there was in fact a voice from the first session. That EVP can be heard at:-

http://youtu.be/9t2IyiSJndk

There were others but they were either too quiet or too much background noise from the people present from shuffling their feet, not speaking towards the microphone or recording when everyone was talking.

The second session was more productive with a howl or a cry heard by the investigation group but nothing heard in the hub room, oddly no cry or howl was recorded on any camera.

Whilst watching the cameras I was able to tell everyone in the hub room that there was a spirit standing next to Marc (GHE team) tugging on his left side, within a matter of minutes, Marc reported on the radio that he felt that his shirt was being tugged on his left side. The Spirit’s name was Sarah who was about 6 or 7 years old and had told me previously (when I first visited the location) that she had passed away in a fire at the property.

When the groups swapped over the investigation group were trying a glass work experiment, firstly Sarah the spirit from the earlier session joined them and started to confirm questions asked and then we tried a different experiment. Carl (GHE Team) who was with me in the Hub room drew a shape on a piece of paper, then once we informed the investigation group that we had drawn something Marc asked Sarah to look at it and draw the shape with the glass. We also asked Sarah to go to numbers that we had written down. All of the answers that Sarah gave were the correct answers. However when we moved on to letters the investigation group were repeatedly told ‘M’ whereas Carl had drawn a ‘W’.

At the end of these sessions I held a séance in the top room, the strangest room, so that all guests could hopefully feel spirit energy move them in some way.

A spirit called David joined us, he was in his mid-30s and started by doing exactly what I asked, moving people arms, and usually on command of the person as I asked those guests to ask in their heads and not say which direction out loud.

Many guests were also pushed and pulled backwards, some guests were also pulled or pushed towards the cupboard and some of us were pulled to the floor by our hands or lifted to the ceiling which was only about 6’5”. As the séance progressed more and more people were beginning to feel their own arms move, much to their amazement and surprise and toward the end one particular guest felt that she wanted to cry and became very warm, another guest also had trouble leaving the room because every time she tried one of her arms would violently shake, this eventually stopped happening and she could leave the room.

For our first public paranormal investigation (we conduct many of these as private or team events) it was very successful and although we didn’t record the sort of evidence that we would have hoped we will be returning to this venue again to try to record something amazing.
