Fort Horsted ghost hunt – 6th June 2015

Fort Horsted ghost hunt 6th June 2015
Chatham, Kent

Given that we have investigated Fort Horsted a great number of times over the last four years, I have never held a séance in the hanging room. Strange really because the Hanging room is known for its paranormal activity and why it is called the hanging room.

Having just two groups but three team member sessions meant that each team member had one session off and could join another session or investigate on their own.

Both groups in the Hanging room felt the spirit called Damien who was aged in his early 20s, quite a happy person who was a soldier from the Second World War.

In the first group Craig felt angry for no obvious reason although he said that it made him feel that he wanted to hurt someone. Steve also became affected and felt sick and unwell. Other guests felt the spirit lift their arms and push them gentle forwards and backwards.

The second group had lots of movement in this room, with Damien exercising his spiritual muscles so to speak, with people being pushed against the walls and being dragged by their arms to the floor. There was also lots of arm movement and gesturing of cutting someone’s throat, although the reason for this wasn’t explained by the spirit. Half the group were twisted and pushed together leaving the other half puzzled as to why they hadn’t been moved.

There are many reasons why some people don’t get touched or moved but by far is resisting the spiritual movement, not being relaxed and not encouraging the spirit to do something. Standing in silence is not encouraging to the spirit.

All in all another good ghost hunt with lots of paranormal activity

Rye Castle ghost hunt – 30th May 2015

Friday, July 3rd, 2015

Rye Castle ghost hunt 30th May 2015
Rye, East Sussex

I often wonder why we don’t come across more criminal spirits at this venue, however I now believe that this is because what we call criminal today is not as bad as it were 200, 300 or even 600 years ago. This Castle has seen many people over the years and that stealing a loaf of bread is looked down upon in today’s society, but 300 years ago it could have meant spending several days in a cell where fights and disease might have killed a person.

The first group in the Keep the séance started with lots of arm movements, which quickly evolved into twisting and dragging people towards the cells and sometimes the movement would drag a person to the floor, but generally the movement was always towards one particular cell. Once in this cell Amber felt arms around her neck which freaked her out.

However once we came out of the cell the atmosphere for the room had changed, before it was this maleficent sensation, now it was a calm feeling. So I asked each guest in turn to stand by the front window to see what happens. Each guest reported that they felt pushed or pulled (depending on which way they were facing) into the wall. Why this should happen we have no idea, but it happens most of the time to the majority of people.

The second group had a more placid time although there were different spirit around; Gordon a gentleman and Percy, a guard I think I have come across before here. Both who tried to manipulate the guests which did result in some arm movement but nothing like the distinctive movements of the first group.

Once again this was an interesting ghost hunt and we look forward to returning later in the year

Theatre Royal ghost hunt – 23rd May 2015

Wednesday, May 27th, 2015

Theatre Royal ghost hunt 23rd May 2015
Margate, Kent

As a team we always look forward to our events at the Theatre Royal, as we can only visit a couple of times a year due to the venue being used until late at night. However whilst we don’t meet the same spirits we do usually have a good night and have plenty of things to write about.

As always all the guests were split into three smaller groups and each group headed off with a different team member. My area for the night was underneath the stage, which I have used on previous ghost hunts.

The first spirit that I encountered looked like a very serious gentleman about six foot in height and of a slim build aged in his mid to late 50s, notably sporting a well-groomed yet thin beard, wearing a grey three piece evening suit and top hat. This gentleman did not tell me his name but during the course of the evening he told me that he was a doctor who had a summer residence in Margate. This gent was from the 1900’s approximately.

All groups of guests were moved by this spirit sometimes he would be able to push and pull everyone in the group, other times it would only be a few chosen people. The first group everyone was moved and touched within the group when asked to be moved by the spirit and many times people were pushed or pulled to the floor or towards the direction of the theatre. The second and third groups the level of movement was less than the first group but it still affected everyone in the group. Many guests were pulled by their arms to the floor whilst others were lifted towards the ceiling.

There was also a female spirit who I first heard the shuffle of a dress, or more of a “swish” of a dress in the first session. This lady had some affinity with guests who were sisters or those guests who were related to each other, as we had several guests in each group who were related activity centred around them. Some of this activity became unwelcome and our séances had to be stopped to avoid the spirit from inflicting their anguish on the guests.

Many guests also smelt different aromas not associated with the building and some described it as “old perfume” or similar to a sweet tobacco. Since I didn’t smell it I cannot describe the smell.

After our three controlled sessions we allowed the guests to venture off on their own with our ghost hunting equipment to hold their own style ghost hunt or to experience parts of the theatre that the public never see or visit. Many guests reported strange sensations and feelings although a few had some unusual photographs.

This was another enjoyable ghost hunt with lots of paranormal activity felt and sensed by the guests and we look forward to returning to the Theatre Royal in August 2015.

Explosion Museum ghost hunt – 9th May 2015

Wednesday, May 27th, 2015

Explosion Museum ghost hunt 9th May 2015
Gosport, Hampshire

This was our second visit to the museum and considering the time of year we had planned to use different buildings as it is light later in the evening. However some of the team who came in February wanted to use the same rooms and buildings.

I chose a building called C-Mag (Magazine).

This is one of the older parts of the museum and this magazine felt interesting. A magazines room is where gunpowder or ammunition would have been kept.

Both sessions we were joined by a male spirit called Chester who was a Navy man aged in his early 30s and quite a stern type of person from Second World War era. Chester wasn’t a talkative spirit although he did oblige when asked by the guests.

Chester was able to move the majority of people’s arms and push and pull people. Some of the movements were very gentle when moving the ladies whilst other times very forceful but this only affected the men. The arm movement was on command and the pushing and pulling back only happened to a few people, usually when they least expected it!

On several occasions a few people would be pulled to the floor by their hands and arms, this was also unexpected but not forceful, it was just like a heavy weight being applied to the shoulders, which in turn made each person slowly kneel down.

In the first session at various times we called out for spirit to repeat sounds that we were making, on one or two occasions we heard a whistle back, or a knock. All of these sounded like they came from an adjacent building although this was strange because there is no adjacent building!

In the second session although we asked several times nothing unusual was heard.

This was another excellent ghost hunt with all the guests having some form of paranormal experiences in one of their sessions.

Fort Borstal ghost hunt – 2nd May 2015

Wednesday, May 27th, 2015

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 2nd May 2015
Rochester, Kent

This event was a little unusual since there were less guests than we are used to. So each team member held a session in different parts of the fort doing different activities so the guests had a normal ghost hunt.

The first session was a table tilting and Ouija board session in the Caponier where there was a male spirit called Cecil who was severely burned along his right side that affected his face, arm and leg. Cecil was responsible for the table being twisted and “walked” around part of the Caponier.

There was also a female spirit present; Annabelle who was a cook from the Second World War era she was trying to communicate via the Ouija board.

The second session was my séance session held in the Counterscarp Galleries. We were joined by a spirit who I have encountered before, his name is Bernard although he prefers the nickname Biffa. Guests were pushed, swayed and had their arms moved but only when I was near to them, not just the people either side of me but the people next to them, so I had to move around the circle for everyone to feel these movements.

There were different spirits watching (although not interacting) us than on previous visits, although these spirit may join us again or it may have been a one off.

Towards the end of the session some guests were shaking because they were cold whilst other guests were extremely warm and some guests felt cold on one side and heat on the other side of their bodies with several people having one cold hand and one warm hand. There didn’t seem to be a logical reason for this as it wasn’t a cold night and the Counterscarp galleries are sealed from the outside air.

The guests then went to participate in a tech and gadget session in the old Cartridge Stores.

After the controlled sessions the guests participated in their own style ghost hunt as we allowed them to visit any part of the fort that they had used in our controlled sessions to hold their own ghost hunt or to hold their own vigil. During this time we let the guests use our equipment.

Whilst this was not a usual ghost hunt, many guests had an excellent ghost hunt and had a paranormal encounter that they could not explain or something that they hadn’t experienced before.

Rye Castle ghost hunt – 25th April 2015

Wednesday, May 27th, 2015

Rye Castle (Ypres Tower) ghost hunt 25th April 2015
Rye, East Sussex

Given that this event was our first at Rye Castle for 2015, we were very keen to see if it were comparable with previous visits. If anything it is more active now than it used to be but now the improvements and building work have finished for the time being and maybe the spirits are happy with that.

As with all our events I like to vary the types of things we do in each group, so this time around we had three sessions for the guests to participate in, one with me holding séances, one with Wayne & Paula holding a tech session and another Kym in the Woman’s Tower.

Upstairs of the Keep I held the séances sessions and we were joined by Godfrey, a 56 year old portly gentleman wearing a three piece suit who repeatedly jingled the money in his pockets to inform people that he was rich. Godfrey was from the 1830s.

There was also another male spirit called Freddie who appeared from time to time. Freddy was a more modern spirit as he was dressed in a more modern fashion of just an open necked shirt and plain/grey trousers, aged in his early 20s.

Many of the guests in the first group felt their arms and hands being moved by the spirits and being pushed and pulled to the floor and the circle being pulled and twisted towards the cell that has the graffiti. I moved the least as people seemed to move around me, with those opposite me being moved more often.

During this session we all heard what we thought was the main door to the keep being closed or slammed. Considering the outside gate was locked and the other group were in the lower ground floor of the keep it was a bit unnerving, so Ted (Rye Museum custodian) went to investigate. He found nothing out of place or unusual.

Many guests saw a face on the headless mannequin or thought they saw a face at the window, this wasn’t a person as we were on the first floor and about 20 feet above ground level!

Also whilst standing in a particular spot near the window many guests felt the unfathomable experience of being “sucked” into the wall.

Odd lights and strange noises were heard as the session continued, but none of these had any obvious or explainable answer at the time. We will have to see if they happen at future events at Rye Castle.

The second group didn’t get anything like the activity of the first group because either they didn’t encourage the spirit to do anything or just took the mickey out of the spirit. Godfrey was present but became disinterested and left. After 40 minutes I ended this session as it was pointless continuing.

After we finished our controlled sessions the guests were allowed to investigate on their own and use our ghost hunting equipment. Many went back to the Women’s Tower or sat quietly in the keep to see if spirit would interact with them. Some interesting photos were taken by guests and some felt spirits presence.

Once again another interesting ghost hunt with lots of guests feeling and sensing spiritual and paranormal activity.

Red Lion Hotel ghost hunt – 18th April 2015

Friday, May 15th, 2015

Red Lion Hotel ghost hunt 18th April 2015
Colchester, Essex

This was our second investigation in Colchester of the week as we had been at The Town Hall the night before and were hoping that the spirits would make themselves known in the Hotel.

We split everyone into 4 groups and each group headed off to a different area with different team members. I chose the cellar as always because some things happen here which do not happen anywhere else in the hotel.

There was only really one spirit in the cellar, his name was Michael and he was a Dray man (he delivered ale and beer from the local brewery). He fell to his death at The Red Lion hotel (although it wasn’t called that then) in 1833 by falling down the keg drop and breaking his neck.

This wasn’t the only spirit that made an appearance although Michael was the most prominent or the strongest energy. There were also other male spirits who lurked in the background and a couple of female spirits who made themselves known to different people.

All but the last group to the cellar there was lots of arm movement on command, with the arms of people being lifted when they thought nothing was going to happen to them, people being pushed and swayed on their feet much to their surprise and amazement. Some of the guests saw what they thought were people lurking in the shadows, or people watching them.

Plus every so often one of the grates of the keg drop is loose so when people on the high street walked on it, it made a very loud bang. This didn’t help with people’s nerves, especially when they were standing closer to it!

There were also many strange noises and whispers heard by some people but not everyone, although those that heard the sounds could not always say in which direction the sound came from.

In the second group there was a male guest who said that he felt petrified, he didn’t know why but he was afraid of something, this was apparently very uncharacteristic of him as he usually wasn’t scared of anything. After the session had ended he went outside and when he came back in he felt fine.

The last group didn’t want to be moved and every time someone walked on the grate several people screamed and jumped. However another male guest in this group during the course of the séance started acting in an aggressive manner and when I looked at him he didn’t look himself and looked very angry and had the face of someone who wanted to fight. He also reported that he felt very cold and at one point unable to stand properly. I felt that had the conditions have been right he (the guest) would have gone into a trance to allow the spirit to talk, however I also felt that it wasn’t safe to do so. After I placed this guest in the centre of the circle he regained his normal look and stance and told me what he felt, although he didn’t know why he felt so aggressive.

We have held numerous ghost hunts at the Red Lion Hotel and I have held many séances in the cellar, but never has a person felt aggressive for no reason or been affected by spirit in this way, let alone two people in different groups behaving in similar ways.

Once again a very enjoyable ghost hunt that many people had paranormal encounters and experiences that they weren’t expecting.

Colchester Town Hall ghost hunt 17th April 2015

Friday, May 15th, 2015

Colchester Town Hall ghost hunt 17th April 2015
Colchester, Essex

This was our third visit to this magnificent building and we were hoping that the activity that we had encountered on previous visits would return, we were not disappointed.

Each team member chose a room that they wanted to work in for the night, I chose the flat above the Moot Hall to hold séances.

All sessions my groups were joined by Christopher, a RAF airman, about 5’9” and of slim build, aged in his early 30s but looked older due to effects of war.

The first group we were also joined Daisy, a local farmer’s daughter from 1400s. Daisy was aged in her early 20s and wore a white dress and something that looked like hessian tied together around her feet for shoes.

On asking for the spirit to interact with us the first group had their arms and legs moved, many a time people’s arms were twisted and some of the group were pulled by their hands to the floor. One or two of the people on the floor were unable to get up. They said that it felt as if someone was sitting on them or holding them down.

After moving into another room someone in the group thought that another person had walked past the outside of the window. Bearing in mind we were on the top floor of the building this seemed unlikely!

Throughout this session many people felt cold air blown across their face and odd noises which when I asked where the noises came from everyone could not agree on a location.

The second group also felt the touches of Christopher but they were nothing like the activity experienced by the first group, this was mainly due to the fact that people in the group didn’t encourage or ask the spirits to do anything.

The third group had much more activity with people’s arms being moved, being pushed and swayed plus some of the guests were also pulled down towards the floor. Although this time no-one was held down on the floor but the guests could still feel the pressure.

This was an excellent ghost hunt with many guests having a paranormal experience or something happen to them which they could not explain.

We as a team look forward to returning later in the year for another investigation

Marwell Hall ghost hunt – 11th April 2015

Thursday, April 23rd, 2015

Marwell Hall ghost hunt 11th April 2015
Winchester, Hampshire

This was our third visit to Marwell Hall and we were hopeful that it would be as active and interesting as our previous visits, as there are certain rooms which similar activity occurs every time we visit.

As always I chose the room upstairs to hold my séances, this is the room the staff don’t like, things happen in this room, it is also the room that the window bar moved on our previous visit.

In this room there were a couple of spirits; the first one I saw was a Footman he was about 5’11” and quite portly for his height, wearing faded navy trousers with leather boots and a dark Navy jacket, he was dressed similarly to the old Royal Mail uniforms. His name was Andrew although he wasn’t a talkative person he was able to move people.

The first group there was some arm movement although by comparison to other groups this was very minor because no-one (apart from me) encouraged the spirit to do anything.

The second group Andrew was able to lift everyone’s arms and twist people’s arm in the centre of the circle. He was also able to push and rock people and in some cases pull the people down to the floor by their arms. Many of the guests felt the pressure that he was able to assert on to their shoulders to force people to move. This pressure was forceful but not malicious in nature. He was also able to pull people backwards, usually quickly and surprisingly which the guests found fun and interesting because it happened so quickly and without warning. The majority of the movements were asked for and the spirit obliged with the requests.

After we finished with the séance as this room became very hot we sat around the table and asked for spirit to make some noises or repeat our knocks on the table. Many times we heard knocks and taps that sounded like they were made from underneath the table (all our hands were flat on top). Many times when everyone heard the knocks from spirit everyone pointed to a different part of the room or the table.

Whilst we were sitting around the table there was a female spirit who seemed to affect one end of the room. She was Victorian in dress but did not give me her name, in fact she didn’t really talk to me, and she just paced around the other end of the room. I stated at the time this was probably because all the men were sitting at the same end and she was affecting the women of the group. Several people felt a coldness like someone breathing on them, however this moved around the table and one person felt a brush across her face whilst another felt a physical touch, a finger or hand poke in the back, which surprised her!

The third group to this room, Andrew made himself know and moved just about everyone’s arms, he also was more able (or willing) to move people. He pushed one person down to the floor in a very embarrassing manner and lifted another person’s left leg a few inches off the floor much to her amazement and surprise. Whilst this was going on other people had their arms raised above their heads and arms and faces stroked, sometimes this was asked for other times not.

Once again after finishing the séance we sat around the table in the hope that we would hear more noises, but alas we didn’t. However the female spirit came through again and affected the same end of the room, with various people feeling cold spots and they too said that it felt like someone breathing a coldness onto them.

After all groups had spent time with all the team members doing different activities in different rooms. We then (as we always do) allow the guests to investigate on their own in any of the areas that they have been and the guests may borrow our ghost hunting equipment and Ouija boards. Many guests had great paranormal experiences on their own or in small groups. One group used our writing planchette and had various letters and names written as well as objects that they asked to be drawn.

Another group upstairs the room that I held the séances managed eventually to get a long table to be moved by spirit.

This was another excellent ghost hunt and we are looking forward to our second visit later in the year.

Fort Horsted ghost hunt – 28-3-2015

Sunday, April 5th, 2015

Fort Horsted ghost hunt 28th March 2015
Chatham, Kent

Fort Horsted holds a special interest for us as a team as this was one of the first indoor locations that we investigated plus it was also the venue that we joined the US Ghost Adventures crew and filmed with them in 2012.

As usual I picked a room that was furthest away from the base room for all my sessions. All the group sessions in this room we were joined by a spirit called Andrew, he was a Second World War spirit who was tasked to load the shells onto the cartridge and shell lifts.

The first session there was also a female spirit who I have seen before in this room, her name was Annie and she was a nurse, however all the movement was caused by Andrew. He was able to lift and move the majority of people’s arms, twist them but when anyone asked him to move their arms he obliged. He was also able to rock, sway and move people, pulling them down by their arms to the floor, although for once no-one ended up on the floor. (I usually ask for this, but didn’t on this occasion). He also manipulated some people backwards, pushing them beyond the centre of gravity, a bit like moves from “The Matrix” film!

The second group to this room also had their hands lifted but the activity was less than the first group because half the group failed to get involved, we always say in the opening talk if you want stuff to happen you have to get involved, if you stand in silence then nothing will happen and that is exactly what happened with half of the group. Although one guest felt something brush past him, he likened it to a person tugging on his jeans, similar to how a child might.

The third group to this room, probably had some of the most interesting movement out of all the groups. Nearly everyone had their hands lifted and moved, sometimes on command, sometimes not! People were pushed backwards and swayed, rocked and pushed. Several times my hands were pulled to the floor and then “wiped” on the shirt of another guest, much to our amusement. Other times they were lifted as high as the guest could stretch.

After visiting the whistling tunnel where not much happened with any group we went into a room upstairs which is the reverse of the Hanging room, this is a room where the cartridges and shells would have been lifted into and then carried to the guns on the top of the fort. I have visited this room in the past but never for any length of time, but it is weird in here, so I took each group here on our way back to the base room.

We were standing around the room and listening to the wind outside, a spirit called Cecil joined us and he seemed to have a deformed left leg, it looked like a birth defect rather than an injury, he was also a Second World War soldier and he made everyone feel light headed and unsteady on their feet as many people were swaying and rocking. Jason (GHE camera) had to move away from the stairs as it felt he was being pushed towards them.

The second group to this room, myself and another guest felt like our feet were stuck to the floor a bit like the feeling if they were set in concrete. Cecil was in this room although I’m not sure he was responsible for this feeling. Once again some people were swaying although this time no-one felt any sensations of dizziness apart from Jason (GHE camera), who seemed to “Zone out” and when I shook him (as it looked like he was asleep standing up) he seemed disorientated and confused and said that he felt he wasn’t in the room. Later in the evening this happened to another guest who visited this room. I asked several times for Cecil or any other spirit to make a noise, several times we heard knocks in response to what I asked, sometimes the knocks were heard before I finished talking. We will try to confirm these incident from the video that we recorded.

The third group in this room had some odd experiences, one lady couldn’t climb the steps so Jason (GHE camera) stayed with her at the bottom of the staircase. We could hear them talking at times. Once again people generally felt strange in the room and when I asked for noises to be made in the room we didn’t hear anything, then we all heard the sound of someone with heels on walk away, at first we thought it could be the lady with Jason, until someone pointed out that she wasn’t wearing heels or shoes that could make that noise, then we heard chatter. When we left the room and met up with them both, neither of them were wearing shoes that could have made the noise we heard. Unfortunately we will have nothing to back up this claim as Jason had the camera (which was off) and was downstairs at the time and the both of them heard nothing. The chatter also wasn’t them as they had already left to head back to the base room.

After we had held three controlled sessions we left the guests to go off on their own under guidance from us to do their own style ghost hunt or to investigate rooms on their own. During this time we allow the guests to borrow our ghost hunting equipment. We checked up on various groups of people throughout the night, although this was made more difficult because of the time change from GMT to BST!

Many guests went into the room we used for various session and some felt the same sensations that other did. Especially the “Zoning out” sensation and the feet stuck to the floor sensations in the mirror to the hanging room.

All in all this was an excellent ghost hunt with some great guests who thoroughly enjoyed their paranormal experiences at Fort Horsted. We’ll look forward to seeing them again at other venues.
