Fort Borstal ghost hunt 30th August 2014
Rochester, Kent

Area: The Cartridge Stores
Equipment: KII’s, Ghost Pro’s, Dowsing Rods, Pendulums, Ouija

Group A  – Tonight I was lucky enough to be in a new area, and with my first group we started with using the pendulums.  Everyone started receiving movement, and once they had established their yes/no answers we asked the spirits questions.  Various spirits joined us, male & female, old and young, we had 9 spirits with us in total.
We then tried using the Ouija table and after a short while the glass started moving.  However after about 20 minutes of random words coming through, it seemed the spirits were staying with us briefly, then changing over.  We did notice the table creaking a lot from the frame underneath throughout.

Group B – With my second group again we started with the pendulums, and guests were able to ask the spirits questions about who they were.  We had similar responses to the first group.  We did then try the Ouija table, but only received one slight movement when just two people touching.  Again the table was creaking underneath.  We did then spend sometime on the Gun Emplacement area above, and some guests kept seeing a white shadow.  When we returned downstairs to return equipment to our room, two guests heard an unusual noise, growl/stomach noise.
Free Session – I joined most of the guests back in the cartridge stores as they had been trying to get some glass movement.  Again we had some slight movement, but as the table kept creaking underneath, we tried some table tipping.  However the table only lifted up once.
Interesting area, and one I look forward to returning again.

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 21st June 2014
Rochester, Kent

This was a combined ghost hunt and paranormal investigation night and we had set up six of our cameras so that the whole of the Officer’s Mess could be monitored from one room, the object of the night was for one group of guests to investigate the Officer Mess rooms whilst another group watch them and see if any paranormal activity occurred.

Whilst two groups were investigating the Officers Mess the other two groups of guests would be engaged in ghost hunt sessions, with one group table tilting and trying communication in the Caponier and another group in the Counterscarp galleries engrossed with séances.

I joined the first group in the Counterscarp Galleries where Jo was starting the séance as the second camera operator, there were two spirits, one a familiar male spirit who is called Captain Daniel Bedford and another prisoner spirit called Munro who I have never seen before. Both spirit energies were able to lift the arms of the guests and pull them backwards and forwards and even pull them to the floor by pushing their knees and pulling their arms down.

The second session I joined Kerry in the Caponier who was trying to get the spirit to communicate via Ouija board and glass movements or table tilting. Kerry’s first session the spirit were reluctant to move anything however the Ouija board started promisingly but didn’t last long. I then suggested that the two tables were placed in the corridor with half the guests on each table and I would try to start one table and Kerry on the other. Eventually a spirit was able to move the tables, which started with Kerry’s table first and whilst they were being spun around our table started to rock and wobble. It took a while but eventually the spirit managed to lift the table. Many times though this seemed to only want to move in one direction; towards the floor. After some encouragement from the guests the spirit did start to obey the instructions and eventually we had two tables being moved and twisted and turned in the corridor to the Caponier.

For the two final sessions I held my normal séances in the Counterscarp Gallery.

The first group we were joined by Captain Daniel Bedford again and he was able to lift all of the guests arms on command and once he moved all the guests he quickly moved on to pushing people, which I had requested. Many of the guests found this fascinating because they could feel that I was not manipulating their hands as I was barely touching them yet they were being pulled backwards or forwards and their arms were being stretched and pulled in all directions.

Jason (GHE Camera) then suggested that the spirit pull us to the floor, the guests liked the idea of this and asked as well and within a few minutes several people could feel pressure on their shoulders, backs and knees and then one by one we were all being pushed to the floor. This started as a gentle manoeuvre but once the spirit had pushed everyone down he continued to move people on the floor or used other people’s arms to push them further to the floor. This continued until everyone had been pushed to the floor and against the walls.

The final group to the Counterscarp gallery we had some gentle arm movement but nothing of the calibre of the previous group because none of the guests asked to be moved in any way. The only exception was the guest standing to my right who was pulled and pushed until his back was against the wall, but he was the only person who was moved in this way.

After these controlled sessions the guests were allowed to explore the areas of the fort that they enjoyed during our controlled sessions.

I joined the majority of the guests who were in the Caponier participating in a human pendulum experiment.

All in all this was a very enjoyable ghost hunt and paranormal investigation where the majority of the guests had some form of paranormal encounter or something happen to them that defied logic and gravity or was just unexplainable.

Fort Horsted ghost hunt – 14-6-2014

Wednesday, July 9th, 2014

Fort Horsted ghost hunt 14th June 2014
Chatham, Kent

Fort Horsted is one of our “special places” as we have held numerous ghost hunts here over the past three years, we have had many paranormal anomalies happen to use and our guests and every time we hold a ghost hunt here something memorable happens to some of the guests. This particular ghost hunt was no different although the most interesting thing happened in the last 20 minutes of our event.

Our event here on this particular date had less people than we are accustomed to, probably because it was England’s first World Cup football match. Nevertheless there were three groups.

The first group headed towards one of my favourite areas of the fort, this was a former magazine room at the far end of the fort and is the furthest away from all the other groups.

Here we met Thomas, aged in his early 60s and from the late 1960s era. Thomas seemed to be dressed as a handyman would have in that period of time. Thomas was a stocky built man with mostly a bald head.

I asked that Thomas move us in some way and this resulted in some of the guests arms being lifted and generally moved on their command. We also often heard footfalls and the sounds of people approaching us but as normal (we often hear these types of noises here) no-one arrived or entered the room.

The second group to this room had a much more productive session, with lots of arm movements, sometimes these were interlocked with each other or pulled to the floor. Thomas was still present and responsible for the movements.

We were also joined by a nurse called Alice who also assisted in moving people in various ways.

The third group also felt their arm moved, although this was not as exceptional as the second group although when we moved up to a room on the ramparts some very unusual and odd noises were heard. These noises sounded like someone walking across carpet, which is really strange because there is no carpet in the fort and there never would have been any.

In the free session is where the majority of the odd and unusual noises were heard as I had just taken a group down to the Counterscarp gallery and as soon as I got back to our base room, two guests asked if they could go to the same place. This is a physical place to get to as there are 90 steps to get there and 90 to get back!

Nevertheless I took these two guests down to see the Counterscarp Gallery as it is really interesting and the most secluded part of the fort. As we were walking between the right and left galleries we all heard strange breathing sounds and when I tapped on the railings we heard a clear response. If that wasn’t enough, we heard a mumbled conversation, women talking and a low or deep man’s voice. None of these noises could be explained because we were the only people in this part of the fort and not only that but we were also the last three people within the fort as all other guests had either left or were waiting with the rest of my team in the base room which is near the entrance to the fort.

All in all this was another successful ghost hunt that had an air of mystery about the place with activity happening just as we were supposed to be leaving and something else for us to investigate on our next visit.

Landguard Fort ghost hunt – 11-4-2014

Landguard Fort ghost hunt 11th April 2014
Felixstowe, Suffolk

Landguard Fort is one of our favourite locations that we always look forward to the event as there are so many rooms within the fort, many of which we haven’t tried anything paranormal. However on this particular evening we had split the whole group into four smaller groups and each group was as far away from each other as possible so that we shouldn’t have any noise interference.

Each of my sessions I chose a different room within the same area so that I would remember each group and the activity, mainly for writing this report, but to also try to use more rooms within the fort.

The first room I chose was one of the magazine rooms, I have held séances in this room before and after a slow start the spirit started to interact with us. The spirit was called Philip aged in his early to mid-20s, a boiler repair man from the 1960s. Philip first started to move some people’s hands and arms with eventually the majority of the guests feeling the sensation. Philip was able to use our hands to stroke the shoulders of other people in the circle and in some cases the faces of two particular guests.

The second group I took to the Caponier. This is always a cold place because it is semi-open to the elements and the wind can blow through the shooting apertures. We were joined quite quickly with a spirit called Thomas, aged in his early 20s, who had passed in a motorcycle road traffic accident in the 1980s. He told me that he left behind a wife and two children. He was wearing a white T shirt and jeans. Thomas quickly was able to move the majority of the guest’s arms which some guests found fascinating. Other guests who did not have much arm movement were pulled backwards; usually this happened as a surprise and quite quickly, especially to Angela and Lyndsey (guests).

During this séance I had the sensation of smelling Silver Nitrate which I know from my professional photography days, however this is not used in the photography business anymore and it has a distinctive smell. On asking the guests if they could smell anything, they all replied ‘no’. I then asked if any of the guests had used Silver Nitrate recently, one person said yes, and she had used it a few days before the event, she works in the medical profession. Silver Nitrate is not commonly used in any industry and certainly not handled by many because it is toxic and corrosive.

The third group I took to a different magazine room, this was in the second grouping of magazine rooms and an area which I have never held a séance before nor an area which any of our team have investigated before. We were joined almost immediately by a male spirit called Cedric who was about 65 years old. Whilst I asked for him to move our arms and hands, little happened at first although when people’s hands started to move, most found this surprising and a sensation which they couldn’t believe or understand. Many people questioning the person they were standing beside say “is that you moving”, the response every time was “no, I thought it was you”. This unnerved a lot of the group. Several others felt an unusual pain in the back of their knees, throbbing arm pain and in the case of one person a static buzzing sensation in his chest. Several of the female guests felt odd sensations in their legs and lower back when their arms were moving, no-one could really describe the sensation although they all agreed it was unusual and something they had never felt before.

The fourth group I took to some of the older areas of the fort, still a magazine room but these rooms in this particular part of the fort were probably the original armament rooms from 1880. We were joined by another boiler repair man, Charlie and a female spirit briefly joined us. Charlie was able to lift the hands and arms of everyone, as well as drag us down to the floor by our hands and used my hands to rub some of the dirt on the floor onto a guest’s boots.

I also took this group to the Caponier were I encountered Thomas earlier to see if he was still around. He was and he happily pulled the guests backwards much to their surprise, it was one of those sensations that at first it was a little scary because no-one knew who was going to be moved, but once it happened a couple of times each guest wanted more movement.

After we finished our four sessions, each group had then spent time with all of our team doing different activities and we then allowed the guests to conduct their own ghost hunt or to go into rooms that we had not used. I suggested to a group to go up onto the first floor to a room where I have seen and heard some odd things.

This group were asking for knocks to be repeated, but instead of knocks the door promptly slammed, which freaked them out as it was not at all windy and there was no obvious explanation of why the door slammed.

This was an excellent ghost hunt with lots of paranormal activity experienced by the guests and we look forward to returning to Landguard Fort later this year.

Oldbury Hill Fort ghost hunt – 28-3-2014

Friday, April 4th, 2014

Oldbury Hill Fort ghost hunt 28th March 2014
Sevenoaks, Kent

The walk up to the hill fort is always an interesting one and very physically demanding as it is very steep in places and the large two foot high steps don’t help. Everyone is always glad when they reach the top!

At the top it is just a small rise into the fort as the escarpment is the hardest but then as a Fort this is what made its position important.

At our first stop, which is a simple ‘T’ junction sometimes this is very active, however on this occasion it was mildly active with some strange noises being heard by everyone, but every time one of these noises was heard it was always behind me and I kept moving around so that I could hear the latest noise. Very frustrating but the noises sounded similar to someone approaching.

In this area the guests all had an electronic device and the communicators were very active , the EMF KII meters not so active and only one or two spikes were seen on these, but only when no-one was purposely looking at them!

At various times mumbling or voices could be heard but each time the actual direction could not be established.

There was a spirit with us who was in the Armed Forces as he was wearing a grey Great Coat, he was also holding a rolled up do lead, but I didn’t see or sense a dog with him. There was also a young female spirit, but she wouldn’t really communicate with us.

I set up the laser grid in this spot to try to see if the direction of the noises would correspond to something being seen, but once this was set up the noises stopped, as did the communication from the spirits.

From here we moved on to my favourite part of the wood, this is an area which so much has happened on previous investigations and I was hopeful that something visual would happen again since we were a small group.

I set up the laser grid on top of a bridleway post and pointed it uphill. Two military (Army) soldier spirits were around us, neither liked me, probably because of my passiveness nature but nevertheless wanted their presence to be felt and seen.

I also turned on my Spirit Box (a device that scans the FM radio band in reverse at 100ms) but unfortunately and probably due to the weather this seemed to pick up a lot more radio than I have experienced before and after asking several questions and not hearing anything but normal radio signals decided to turn it off. Whilst I was trying to turn it off one guest saw a white mist pass from the right to the left further down the path and asked me if I had a torch on at the time. Which I didn’t and neither did the people further down the path.

Whilst we were both standing in the dark we both heard footsteps approaching us from the path we had just walked down and then an icy cold blast which felt like someone had just opened a freezer in front of us. Stepping away from this particular spot it was comfortable and relatively warm but as soon as either of us walked closer to a particular spot we could both feel the coldness. There was no wind and the ambient temperature was about 7 degrees Celsius but the really cold spot was closer to freezing temperatures.

I decided to start a séance circle to see if the spirit would be able to move people, which they did almost immediately. Dan (guest) was pushed forwards and mainly pulled backwards and no matter what he tried to do the spirit just kept pulling him back. There was also some light arm movements but this came to an abrupt stop when Stuart noticed some of the lights in the laser grid had suddenly and without any warning just gone out as if something was blocking the light. I decided to close the séance circle so that we could all try to see it and just before I did Dan saw a white mist go from left to right, exactly in the same spot that Nikki had seen it earlier.

Several guests walked down the path to see if they could understand or see why the laser lights had just disappeared but could not, two of the guests walked to the same spot and both came back as they felt vulnerable, and those that stayed behind felt like we were being watched. As we all stood watching the laser grid several times different parts of the grid would fade to nothing and then come back whilst other lights, especially the centre light (which is brighter) would just disappear from view then re-emerge a few minutes later. Given where the grid was pointing the centre light was about 5 feet off the ground so an animal could not have been the cause.

When we moved to the final area near to the pond two spirit energies were near to us, one was a farm hand called Mickey who was in his late 20s and he was not interested in us but more interested in the other spirit who was trying to push Stuart into the pond. Stuart was fighting the movements and ended up having a very sore lower back pain but also he was swaying and moving in a strange circular movement as the spirit tried to push him. Fortunately for Stuart the spirit was unsuccessful!

All in all a great night and some excellent visual unexplainable paranormal occurrences, especially the mists seen in the laser grid and how some of the lights randomly just disappeared from view for no apparent reason. However this particular location has been a successful location on previous ghost hunts for seeing mists and shapes within the laser grid.

Fort Horsted ghost hunt – 22-3-2014 (Kym)

Friday, April 4th, 2014

Fort Horsted ghost hunt 22nd March 2014
Chatham, Kent

Area: 10 Equipment: KII’s, Ghost Pro’s, Dowsing Rods, Pendulums, Writing Planchette

Group B  – Kerry (team) joined me on my first session and we started with explaining to guests how to use the pendulums and dowsing rods.  Almost immediately we had movement on all, and the guests were able to establish their yes & no’s, which they enjoyed immensely asking questions to spirit.  I then suggested we split the group so three girls joined Kerry on the writing planchette whilst I took the remaining five guests into the opposite room.  We continued using the pendulums, but also used the ghost pro.  We then re-joined the others as they were experiencing a lot of movement with the writing, and some other guests joined in.  As all the writing received seemed to be random, we turned the paper over and asked spirit to write the initial of one of the persons present.  Immediately we had the letter J – and Julie (guest) was very surprised.  We then asked for another initial of a guest, and to Calum’s surprise a C was drawn.  We then joined everyone else in the tunnel, and some guests could smell burning, and another guest felt a touch on her back.

Group C – I was joined by Carl (team) on my second session who was filming for us.  After handing out the rods & pendulums we received movement with them.  Then we tried the writing planchette again.  Although we had movement, not as much as before, it was just random squiggles.  Whilst standing around the table one guest felt a touch on her back.  I took three guests into the opposite room with ghost pro, explained how to use it, and once they had contact with spirit they went to explore the tunnel.  Carl started feeling unwell so he left the area.  The remaining three guests returned and tried the planchette, whilst the others went to explore the tunnel.  One of the guests could feel the energy behind her and had the name Victor in her head, and asking spirit if that was his name we started to get movement on the writing planchette.  With no more movement I placed a ghost pro on the table, and one of the guests was sure she saw it move.  I said it was possible as I recalled an incident in that room many months before when I had placed a camera on the table and we all had seen it move.  The five guests then returned from the tunnel and said that two of them had been touched on the back of knee within 4 minutes of each.

Group A – With my last group, all four ladies were showing an enormous fear of the spiders in that area.  We entered very slowly, pointing out where not to stand, and everyone felt comfortable to enter one of the rooms.  I handed out the rods & pendulums and all received some movement.  One guest in particular who had used the rods before was able to ask spirit yes & no questions from the start.  We had a male soldier with us, and when asking if he would join us on the table with the writing planchette, he answered yes.  Whilst asking spirit to move the planchette we could hear the table creaking underneath.  With fingers on the planchette and a hand on table, we could feel gently rocking on both.  We then all took a break and one of the guests asked spirit to copy her whistle, and we all heard what sounded like a female whistle back.  As two of the guests had left the area because of her fear of the spiders, we had to check it wasn’t them, but they were standing outside and hadn’t even heard us whistle out, and had definitely not made a sound themselves.  We did ask spirit to repeat the noise but nothing.  All six of us then walked up the tunnel, and some noises and taps were heard.

I then joined Steve, Kerry & guests in area 26, and we did a séance circle.  I was holding hands with Louise (guest) to my left.  She had been reluctant to join in as before she had felt sick whilst in the circle, but I persuaded her to join in.  I started feeling a heavy weight on my left shoulder, and Steve said we had the spirit of Justin behind us.  He was very large and had been a prisoner.  I asked Justin to move the weight onto Louise’s shoulder as I didn’t want her to think I was pulling her down, and to her surprise, and my relief, the heavy weight moved to her right shoulder.  We were then pushed down to the floor, and Louise thanked spirit and asked to be moved back up.  I then suggested she ask spirit to move to her left shoulder which it did.  She then asked for spirit to move to her son Calum’s shoulder which it did.  Louise continued to ask Justin to move us in various ways, which he was very happy to oblige.  Meanwhile the remainder of people in the circle were being moved by two other spirits, and we all ended up being moved in various, and sometimes funny positions.

A great end to a memorable night!

Fort Horsted ghost hunt – 22-3-2014

Friday, April 4th, 2014

Fort Horsted ghost hunt 22nd March 2014
Chatham, Kent

This event was our first public event of the year at Fort Horsted, the week before we held a special invitation only event for our frequent customers, but since this was a public event many of the guests probably didn’t know what to expect. Fortunately we have done many ghost hunts at this Fort to know where the best areas to get ghostly activity or for the guests to experience the activity.

We usually hold three one hour sessions so that all guests can experience different parts of the fort with different team members doing different activities. So I chose the furthest area away from all the other groups; a room which is right at the edge of the fort.

We were joined quite quickly by a spirit called Philip, he was a Doctor from the 1880s and 37 years old.

When asking Philip to move us as we were standing in a séance circle James (guest) who was next to me could feel Philip’s energy and the fact that James was swaying or rather being pulled backwards, to fight this sensation James was pulling himself back upright. James found this a little unnerving to start with but like all things the more he got used to the sensation the easier it became for Philip to move him.

Whilst James was being pulled back lots of guests experienced their arms being moved and unfortunately for the people either side of me, my hands were often dragged to floor and on one occasion the letters P and O were drawn in the dust on the floor.

I asked Philip what the O stood for but didn’t get a response.

As the guests all got used to the sensation Philip was able to move more and more people until everyone had been moved in some way. A few times we all heard the sound of a children’s toy, it sounded like a toy train and immediately after this we all heard a stone being kicked or thrown. Since there are a lot of stones on the floor in the corridor we could not be sure it was thrown at us and because of the acoustics we couldn’t be sure of the direction. But since we were all holding hands it could not have been any of us.

At the end of this session I held an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiment. There were several responses to people’s questions but not all could be clearly heard, the two clearest ones though can be heard at:- http://youtu.be/d3n7GyJYi7w
http://youtu.be/6o6RBu3J6qw

The second group to this same area, Philip was still present and in fact he stayed with me in the room all night. Once again arm movement was felt by the majority of the guests relatively quickly as well as some pushing and people being pulled back. This group however were not as nervous as the first group and Philip was able to push people and twist them into some very unusual and sometimes painful positions.

For some reason Philip wanted to touch people’s shoes with whichever hands he was able to move, which meant that some people ended up getting all the dirty dust on their shoes.

During the séance two guests became incapacitated and had to be removed from the séance. Gary (guest) in particular just felt drained and he described the feeling similar to feeling faint.

The third group were very nervous compared to the first two groups, this is usually because my sessions are held in virtual darkness and people feel more vulnerable when they can’t see the walls of the room, let alone where the doorway is.

However Philip still attempted to move people and as the group became more comfortable with their surroundings and what I was trying to achieve (which is to ask the spirit to move people) more people’s arm were being lifted and when a few guests least expected it they were pulled backwards. Two guests though had laughing fits for no reason. This is something which we have encountered before at the Fort although not in this area, but neither of the guests knew why they were laughing and according to their friends this was so out of character for them.

The rest of the time we allow the guests to hold their own ghost hunt or to experience other areas of the Fort under our supervision but not holding set activities.

I joined a group in the Counterscarp Galleries (which is an area that is usually out of bounds) and some guests asked that I do a séance circle. We were joined by a spirit that I had met the previous week called Captain Bell (he pushed people to the floor) and two other spirits who I have seen before although not for a while, they were both prisoners who probably were employed whilst serving their sentence to build the place.

All of these spirits combined their energies to move everyone’s arms although some more than others, which very quickly progressed into people being twisted up and a strange lunging sensation towards people, not always their faces but usually. One guest was “picked on” by the spirit and he was forced to the floor until his head touched the floor. I attributed this to Captain Bell as that is what he did to two people the week before.

This was once again an enjoyable ghost hunt with many guests getting some form of paranormal activity which they could not explain or an experience that they enjoyed.

Fort Horsted ghost hunt – 15-3-2014

Fort Horsted invitation ghost hunt 15th March 2014
Chatham, Kent

This special ghost hunt was only open to our best customers; the plan for the evening was complicated to say the least as I didn’t want to have team members only being in one area throughout the night. The objective was to have different team members in different areas doing different activities and for the guests to choose what they wanted to do and who they would join for each of the three hourly sessions.

Surprisingly it wasn’t too hard for all the guests to understand, however as a team it was a little more confusing because no-one knew neither where they were going nor who with.

I started in an area only known as 36, this is a magazine room at the far end of the Fort which in the past has proved to be a very active room.

After started a séance circle and asking for any spirit to move us in any way they could, we were joined by a spirit called Michael who was a carpenter. He appeared to be wearing dungarees and a vest and had a carpenters pencil behind one ear. He was about 5’11” in height and of a stocky build aged in his mid-40s.

Michael started by moving our hands gently and when the majority of people had their hands moved (usually on command) he progressed to gently pushing and twisting people. However this turned very quickly into pushing people into other people and twirling others on the spot. Some of our hands were dragged on to the floor, which is fairly common and then once the majority were kneeling down Michael was able to push people more easily. David (guest) had his face stroked first and then as Michael became more adept at moving us was able to push David on to the floor face first, much the amusement of the rest of us.

Everybody felt some movements, some were treated to more forceful movements whilst the rest had more gentle movements and several guests had their faces, chins and shoulders rubbed. Odd smells seemed to fade in and out of the room with some smelling a sulphuric aroma whilst others smelling a lead paint aroma.

As the session went on Jason (GHE Camera) thought he heard a voice say “It’s alright” although no-one else heard this. We are hopeful that this will be captured on the video footage. Several other noises were heard throughout the session including something being dropped or thrown. It sounded like a pebble being kicked across the floor. Lights and other sounds were also seen and heard coming from the entrance to the room.

After we had all had our arms stretched towards the ceiling and dragged on the floor Michael tired of our presence at started pushing some of the guests and pulling those with their back towards the door in the direction of the door. We took this to mean that he wanted us to leave the room. So I asked him to step back and I closed the séance circle.

The Second group I chose to go to room 10, which we call it the spider room, because this is predominantly where the majority of the biting cave spiders reside and nest. The best way to visit this area is not to look up especially if you are afraid of spiders!

After forming a séance circle in the left hand room a spirit called John joined us, he was a plumber/boiler maintenance man, very plump and came from the late 1940s. He started by gentle moving arms and then pushing and pulling the guests backwards. This mostly happened very randomly with no-one knowing who was going to be moved and when. Arm movement was restricted to me and the people either side of me but everyone got pushed or swayed. I then left the séance circle but stayed in the room to try to direct the spirit to move the guests which worked well.

During this whole session we could all hear some odd noises, the funny thing is that we could all clearly hear the noises when we were talking, but as soon as we stopped the noises seemed to be quieter. The odd sounding noises ranged from whispering and mumbling to full blown talking, which I went to check to see if anyone was near us. They weren’t and it was quieter outside of the room. Apparently when I left the room everyone felt the atmosphere change and all the candles in the room flickered violently, but when I returned the candles didn’t flicker at all.

Other noises continued as we moved throughout the tunnel complex with the sound of footsteps on concrete, but most of this tunnel the floor is either broken stones or loose sand.

The third séance session was held in area 26 and more of an experiment for me as I wanted to try to something that I encountered a few months ago at another venue. I wanted to direct spirit to do particular things to certain people without their knowledge. So I started in the circle to help build the energy levels and then after there was some gentle arm movements and gentle pushing I left the circle. As I moved around the room I asked the spirits to move people that I pointed to. There were three spirit energies in the room. One was a Captain Bell who was a Second World War soldier, the other two joined us a little while into the session, they were both prisoners but neither gave me their name. All three spirit energies were quite happy to push and pull the guests.

As it is quite difficult to explain what happened to whom and how, the video of this session will be published so that everyone can see the result. Generally though, most of what I asked to happen to the particular guests that I pointed to (without them seeing) happened.

At one point the majority of the circle were on the floor, two guests (Darren & Russell) had their faces pushed onto the floor and when they stood back up they looked like they had just returned from a coal mine! This proved extremely funny for everyone else!

After these controlled sessions we then allowed people to go to various parts of the Fort to experience activities that they hadn’t experienced before or for us to try experiments with the guests.

I joined a group in room 36 who were with Sue & Kerry (GHE team) who were attempting a human pendulum experiment. When I walked in the room they asked me for some more questions to ask as they had run out of ideas. However I was more concerned with a spirit that I have seen many times in this room. Her name was Annie and she was a Nurse. She also took a dislike to Darren (who was the pendulum) and she wanted to do something different to Darren.

I then asked one of the guests to leave the room so that I could tell him what Annie was going to do and then we both re-joined the room.

Darren started to feel his legs and knees shaking and after much encouragement from the other guests in the room Darren started to feel his right leg lift off the floor, he also said that he felt dizzy and strange. I stood behind him and placed my hand on his back to give him more energy until Darren started to sway and he seemed to stand in an odd position. I then asked Mark (guest & the person I told) to come and place his hand where mine was. This is when it got really interesting as Mark and I had to stop Darren from falling over many times. It was similar to a Weeble, wobbling all over the place but not falling over because we were holding him up. Annie however made Darren feel odd and when she couldn’t do anything more than lift one leg, she did manage to lift one of his arms and make him shake violently.

Annie had told me she wanted to try and make Darren walk or move him by his legs. Whilst this didn’t really happen it was brilliant to see a person affected in this way as Darren had no idea what was going to happen. [We have had this happen to another guest at another location, which was filmed. – July 2013 at Fort Borstal to Charlotte]

This was an excellent ghost hunt with lots of activity throughout all sessions and with all team members. Hopefully we achieved what we set out to do, which was capture and record some amazing activity for the guests as the majority were experienced ghost hunters.

Fort Borstal ghost hunt – 8-3-2014 (Kym)

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 8th March 2014
Rochester, Kent

Area: Officers Mess Equipment: KII’s, Ghost Pro’s, Dowsing Rods, Pendulums, Writing Planchette

Group C  – handed out rods & pendulums, explaining how to use them.  Guests stayed for a short while outside room 1 using these, then went off to explore.  Guests were continually amazed to see the rods and pendulums move – especially when they established a yes & no. We tried the writing planchette, and glass on table but received no movement, however we moved the table to room 6 and the glass started moving.  The spirit was willing to answer questions by moving the glass to the light for yes, or away for no.  The spirit confirmed he was a prisoner, had murdered someone, was in his twenties, had died in the prison, and his initials were G O.  Asked if he meant “go” – he said no.  Some of the guests felt they were being touched.  As the questions being asked (and not answered) were about his death, to lighten the mood we asked spirit if they wanted to play with the glass – in answer to this the glass started moving in rapid circles.  All guests took it in turns to ask the spirit to stop the glass and change direction – to which it did.  The glass also started twisting around, with the guests moving around the table with the glass.

Group A – A sheep had been spotted roaming the fort when we finished the last session, and being told that it could be in our area, we was very cautious when entering.  I think I was more scared of a sheep jumping out on me than a ghost! With no animals found we started with four guests trying the glass work, whilst the other four tried the rods & pendulums.  I went back to check on guests with glass, and after encouraging spirit to come forward we had some movement, but only for a short while.  I then swapped the guests over, and although we did receive some glass movement, the table started rocking at the same time.  We tried some table tipping but only received slight movement.  All the guests then explored the area with rods & pendulums, I also handed out some Ghost Pro’s and KII’s.  We had two spirits come through on the ghost pro’s; male in his thirties – worked as a cook at the fort, and female who worked at the fort for Sgt Andrews.  Asked if she had passed to the light, she replied yes.  Asked if with her loved ones, replied yes.  Asked spirit to touch any of us or make a noise – we heard one bang.  Asked spirit to repeat with two bangs, but heard nothing.

Group B – We started with all guests at the top of corridor using the rods & pendulums – and were amazed to receive lots of movement.  Myself and guest to my right both felt a cold breeze on our hands holding the pendulums.  The rods & pendulums were moving on command which amazed many.  Some then tried the glass in room 6, but with no movement moved table to room 5 and tried the writing planchette.  The writing planchette started moving straight away.  We asked for spirit to write his intials and we got S A.  Asked spirit if he was Sgt Andrews to draw a circle – and it did.  We asked spirit to draw the number of his room that was his office – he drew the number 4.  Whilst the planchette was moving around the table, the table started rocking too.  Randomly the planchette would also lift up.  We asked how many spirits were in the room – drew the number 9.  As there were nine of us in the room – we asked if each spirit could touch us in the same place.  However one guest started feeling sick and unwell, and as our time was up we finished the session.  On checking with guests if they felt a touch, one guest had a touch on her knee, another had a touch on her hand, and I had felt a touch on my head.

With the free session I joined guests back in the officers mess.  Some wanted to try the glass on table, and whilst the glass was moving around the table, the table was rocking slightly.

An interesting night tonight – with movement on table in more ways than one at the same time – very unusual – but of course Fort Bortstal always surprises us.  Until next time…

Fort Borstal Paranormal Investigation – 15-2-2014

Saturday, March 8th, 2014

Fort Borstal Paranormal Investigation 15th February 2014
Rochester, Kent

We arrived early to set up camera’s in the Officers Mess area.  This is a long corridor with six rooms, probably used for army personnel to work & rest.  Room 1 was set up to watch the four cameras.  We had cameras set up in room’s 4, 5 & 6, and one looking down the corridor.  The only equipment we had to use was hearing enhancers and electronic voice recorders.  Our aim was to gather evidence.

Group A sat watching the camera’s with Kerry, whilst I took Group B into the rooms.  In room 4 only myself was swayed back & forward.  Room 5 not too much, but one guest stayed in there whilst we moved to room 6.  That guest shortly joined us as he heard shuffling next to him, and an intake of breath as if someone was about to speak.  He had no hearing enhancers on.  The last room felt very different, all females being pushed/pulled/swayed.  Felt a lot colder in this room, was feeling cold spots, and one guest felt a cold touch on their hand.  Tingling feelings on head and face too.  Guests didn’t like the far right corner, feeling very uncomfortable whilst standing there.

After 30 mins we swapped – Kerry took Group A and they experienced swaying in rooms 4 & 6, although only myself and Kerry in room 4.  Someone heard whispering with the hearing enhancers on.  Another guest was touched on their leg.  Again this group didn’t like the far right corner in room 6.

After a short break we took Groups C & D.  I took Group C first and again we were experiencing swaying in room 4.  In room 5 I was sure I saw a male spirit standing in the far left corner, others were feeling uncomfortable in this room.  I then saw a shadow move a few feet away from that corner.  Time was approx 22.45 – not sure whether our camera was facing that way.  In room 6 many of the guests were swaying.

Jo then took group D first to room 6 – a loud noise was heard by someone with the hearing enhancers on.  When in room 5 they felt uncomfortable in this room.  In room 4 many were swaying again.

Whilst we were watching the cameras in room 1, the room suddenly felt extremely cold, starting with our backs, then eventually all over.

I then had Groups A & B again, and this time the focus was on EVP’s.  Jo took group A and one guest whilst standing in the front right corner of room 6 was feeling very sick.  When someone stood in the far right corner they felt static around them.  Also Jo & guests being swayed and pushed in this room again.  Whilst playing back their first EVP in room 4 someone asked “did you die here” and they were sure they heard a male “yes”.

I then took Group B, and when playing back our first EVP in room 4, we were sure we heard a male whisper after Justin’s (guest) question.  In room 5 before we started the EVP Lee (guest) whistled out asking spirit to copy.  No reply was heard but I suggested Lee do this again on the EVP, which he did.  Whilst playing it back we heard two whistles before Lee asked his question.  However, whilst wearing the hearing enhancers Lee heard a whistle after his question/whistle request, but on playing back again it was not heard, concluded Lee may have heard the whistle in ‘real time’ not on the recording.  We moved to room 6 and Karen (guest) was shoved back three times, she asked spirit for more, saying “is that all you can do”, but received no more.  However, she was the last person to leave that area when we finished, and whilst walking out she thought someone was walking alongside her, she looked but no-one there.  She had the feeling the spirit was escorting out.

Myself and Kerry took Group’s C & D for the final session of the night, however with both groups feeling tired, each time EVP’s were recorded, nobody could be serious and kept laughing.

A brilliant night – great fun and lots of very different experiences.
