Fort Borstal Paranormal Investigation and ghost hunt 15th February 2014
Rochester, Kent

This event was always going to be different as it is the first time we have attempted a paranormal investigation. This involves setting up one area with our CCTV monitoring equipment. We had intended to set up two areas but the staff attending this determined how much we set up. In the end I decided that we would do both a ghost hunt and a paranormal investigation, this was a brave plan because it meant that there would be four groups, however two groups at a time would be involved in the paranormal investigation whilst the other two groups would be participating in a ghost hunt.

As always I chose the counterscarp galleries for my sessions, which meant walking up and down 200 steps each session.

The first group Jo (GHE second Medium) joined me and she picked up on a relatively recent spirit by the name of David, both Jo and I could sense him and I described him as being either late 20s or early 30s, fair hair, fair skin wearing modern clothing including jeans and we both had the impression that he was from the 1980s.

Asking David to move the guests started well with the majority of people feeling gentle arm movement, although very quickly Dianne (Guest) to my left felt a downward pressure on her shoulders and she was forced onto the floor, sometimes her head was also pushed onto the floor, which Diane found very amusing. The rest of the guests were pushed, pulled and generally manipulated by their arms and Jo kept asking for the spirit to knock off my hat. Many times I saw out of the corner of my eye hands looming towards me and I was able to duck out of the way.

There was also another male spirit called Justin present. I have seen this spirit before and he was just laughing at us and the strange positions that David was able to push us into.

The second group we ventured into the same room hoping that these guests would also be able to feel David energy, but instead there was just Justin (the laughing spirit). Once again after asking out for everyone to be pushed or moved in some way I saw a familiar spirit energy; Capt Daniel Bedford who frequents this part of the fort and he quickly started to lift the arms of the guests and when I asked for people to be pushed he very quickly moved people into his “trademark” position. This position is pushing people against a wall, to get people against a wall he drags one person and because we are all holding hands as part of the séance we all have to move. When we are closer to the walls it is then easier for Capt Daniel to pull people backwards against a wall. This happened three times in three different directions with Jo, Justin & Lee (guests) being pushed against a wall.

When we weren’t being pushed against the walls there was lots of arm movement with just about everyone being moved in some way, usually the guests found themselves swaying or rocking uncontrollably.

Towards the end of the session we all heard a strange “Woo Hoo” noise this sounded like a child’s call of excitement.

The third group to this area didn’t have as much movements as the previous two groups however there was still some gentle arm movement and some gentle swaying to a few guests, one guest was moved by her feet in a ballet style movement but generally the spirit movements were weaker, although the group of guests didn’t encourage the spirit to move them and obviously if you don’t ask to be moved then you won’t be moved. Spirit need to have your consent.

The fourth group only had some light arm movement, no pushing or swaying of any kind but this group didn’t really want to be moved or touched and the spirit therefore didn’t move them.

All in all this was a great ghost hunt and paranormal investigation and the audio and video recording from the paranormal investigation side are still being analysed and anything interesting will be published as soon as the analysis is complete.

Fort Borstal ghost hunt – 7-12-2013 (Kym)

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 7th December 2013

Area: Officers Mess

Equipment: KII’s, Ghost Pro’s, Dowsing Rods, Pendulums

After handing out equipment, the guests were surprised with the movement of the rods & pendulums when they were holding them.  We were communicating with spirit with the ghost pro’s too.  Four of the guests were sensitive/mediums and were able to pick up on the spirits with us.  We had a female that seemed agitated, possibly raped.  Then a male officer who raped the female.  He was not happy, was lonely and had been found out.  The name for the female was either Annie or Annabel.  In a later session the ghost pro confirmed her name was Annabel.  There was possibly a child born out of wedlock.  We also had a male prisoner that had helped build the fort.  Guests reported they were feeling being touched, and one guest felt like a human finger touched his head.

My second group were five ladies on a hen night.  Some were particularly nervous, but when offered pendulums and dowsing rods to use, they felt surprisingly calm.  One guest in particular felt very connected to the crystals, and hers was moving the most, swinging from side to side at force.  It looked like someone was tapping the pendulum with their hand.  With one ghost pro between them they took a wander down the corridor.  Whilst I was walking next to Alicia, who was the hen, her ghost pro lit up.  I innocently said “you have someone with you”, with this she went into panic mode, thinking I had seen a spirit next to her.  Of course there could have been, but when she realised I just meant the spirit had lit the ghost pro up, she relaxed and was able to ask spirit a few questions.  The guests started to relax and moved freely throughout the rooms, using the equipment.  We also stood looking through the camera at what was being filmed down the empty corridor, and Carl was able to point out the difference between the dust and orbs.

With my third group, again we stood at the top of the corridor using the rods & pendulums, again with guests being surprised at the movement whilst they held them.  One female in particular, whilst holding the pendulum, it was moving & swaying continuously at speed, so much so at one point the pendulum went over the top of her hand.  When the pendulums rotated or swayed, the guests asked for spirit to stop and change direction, or stop and restart, to their surprise it did.  All standing halfway down the corridor, the boys were challenging the girls to walk down the dark corridor, with no torch, and turn into the last room.  With all mostly doing it, the boys were challenged back, to which they did!  We then all went into the last room, and stood quietly in the dark for a while, listening out, and possible taps were heard in the room.

With the controlled sessions over, the guests had the opportunity to explore, with kit.  I joined a group of four in the Officers Mess with the Ouija table.  Immediately we had movement with the glass, spirit wanted to communicate.  His name was Mark Peters, age 30 I think, here at the fort in 1946.  He was accused of stealing money from the military, but did not do it.  He went to prison for it.  He said the Sergeant Andrews that is often in this area was the person who stole.  He said he was a liar.  And he was still angry for this.  Then the spirit spelt Russ, this was the name of one of the guests on the table.  The spirit wanted Russ to apologise.  I then asked if it was possible Russ was Sergeant Andrews in a previous life, Russ said yes as he was aware of some of his past lives.  We asked spirit if this was correct – he said yes.  Russ felt unsure at first about apologising for something he didn’t do, but once realising his soul did it, he apologised.  With this the glass moved to ‘goodbye’, and the spirit had gone.

What an amazing end to the night, that was one experience I did not expect, certainly a surprise to us all!

Fort Horsted ghost hunt – 23-11-2013 (Kym)

Fort Horsted ghost hunt 23rd November 2013

Area: 10

Equipment: KII’s, Ghost Pro’s, Dowsing Rods, Pendulums, Writing Planchette

We started by turning on the ghost pro’s & KII.  Immediately the ghost pro lit up.  We established the spirit was a male soldier.  The guests started using the pendulums & rods, and were surprised by the movement, feeling sure they weren’t doing it.  They would swing, vibrate, rotate and move on request.  We then tried the writing planchette, and whilst asking for spirit to move the pen, Victoria (guest) got pushed to her right.  Then to her surprise her legs got pushed away underneath her, causing her to nearly fall down.  And whilst this was happening the planchette started lifting up one side.  I stepped away from the table and the planchette continued lifting up, and then I felt someone touch my bum which made me jump and look behind me.  With our session nearly up, we said goodbye to the spirit, and with that he wrote the letter “b” on the paper.  We took this as “bye”.

With the second session we all started by using the ghost pro, pendulums & rods.  With a spare set of rods I used them too.  Once establishing my yes/no we communicated with the spirit; a male soldier, same spirit as on the earlier session, and also the same spirit that I had encountered in the hanging room on a previous ghost hunt at the fort.  His name was Rob, was married, his wife was in the room with us, had no children, passed at the fort age 33 in 1867.  We asked where he was standing and the rods pointed to behind me.  We then tried the writing planchette, encouraging spirit to move it for the next few minutes.  We then heard a noise in the corner of the room, Emma (guest) felt a touch on her back and then the planchette started moving.  Louise (guest) had an animal suddenly in her head, asking her not to tell us we asked spirit to draw the animal.  The pen started moving all over the paper.  We asked spirit to lift the planchette up when he had finished drawing – it did so we looked at the picture, which resembled a rabbit – Louise had bugs bunny!  Then the planchette started lifting up again and the spirit seemed to want to play.  It continued to draw randomly.  With our session coming to an end we asked for a noise as a sign, and we heard a footstep in the corridor.

With my third group again we started with the rods & pendulums, and Sean had joined me to film this time.  The guests were able to ask spirit to move the pendulums and rods in many different ways, to which it responded.  We then tried the writing planchette and had some slight movement, then just has it started moving up & down the camera battery died with 40 minutes left.  The planchette didn’t move anymore, but we were hearing noises around us, and guests were feeling touches.

My fourth group started by using the rods & pendulums and were surprised by the movement, to their request.  We were hearing noises around us, and some guests were feeling touches.  Footsteps were heard all around us in the room.  We tried to get some movement on the writing planchette, and it did move slightly, and lifted up once at the end.  Throughout all our hands were icy cold.

With an hour left for the guests to enjoy the free session, Jo & I joined some guests in the hanging room.  The spirit that stepped forward was Thomas who had been with Jo in this room throughout the evening.  He was able to move the spring Ouija in many different ways, often to the guest’s request.  We stayed here filming until the end – great night!

Fort Borstal ghost hunt – 16-11-2013 (Jo)

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 16th November 2013

Tonight myself and Sue spent the evening in the Caponier of the Fort, taking 2 groups on separate sessions, each beginning with a short circle to build some energy in the room for spirit to use. We split each group down in half to give each a chance to try both activities, table tipping and The new Spring Ouija board.

Group 1: As the group had been split, I just had the three guests to try out the new Spring Ouija board ( a round Ouija board that has an upper level which spirit is able to bend, a little like table tipping). This is the first time we had used this Ouija board so had no idea what to expect, and as we are the only group that goes to Fort Borstal, I am pretty sure spirit had never seen one either! Although we had some initials given to us, RS, 16 years old and 1956, at this point the top of the board did not move at all, and all information was given by spirit in the conventional way.

We then swapped with Sue’s group, us going over to try table tipping. The spirit that began to move the table was very strong, and seemed to be very responsive to both Jack and Liam, (guests) tipping rapidly and firmly between the two of them. This remained continuous until the end of the session. The boys seemed quite baffled, as neither could explain the movement of the table as I had come away and it was only the two of them touching it.

Group 2: Again Sue and I split the group down as before,4 on the Ouija (including myself) and 3 table tipping. The first group on the Ouija board had a great experience. Although we had no significant information given to us to begin with, spirit had by this time realized that the top part was able to be moved! When asked for, spirit began to tip and twist the top in all directions and genuinely seemed to be having “fun” with it. We asked spirit if he ( I say he, it very much felt a male energy) was able to push the top right down so that it would knock on the base to which he obliged on more than one occasion. We then used tipping in 2 directions, one for yes, one for no. We were able to work out that spirit was 67 years old and had been a Sergeant in the Army, although not certain, I would say WW2, as it didn’t feel to be an extremely old spirit.

Sadly, when we swapped the groups over, no more movement was received on the board.

Fort Borstal ghost hunt – 16-11-2013 (Kym)

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 16th November 2013

Area: Officers Mess

Equipment: KII’s, Ghost Pro’s, Dowsing Rods, Pendulums

After handing out equipment and showing the guests how to use them, we had ghost pro activity immediately.  The pendulums and dowsing rods were also moving.  The guests all went off to explore and I followed Debbie (guest) into room 2.  Whilst standing in the dark Debbie suddenly felt uneasy and stepped towards me, she had thought I was to her left and felt unnerved when she realised I wasn’t.  I then saw a shadow in front of us, so we laid the KII on the floor in there asking spirit to light up the KII.  Although no lights on the KII, we were seeing lights around the KII.  Two female guests joined us, and again we were all seeing the same lights, and shadows.  Debbie felt a tug on her hair twice.  Two more guests joined us and stood where Debbie was, and they heard taps on the wall to their left.  We all moved nearer and were hearing them too, similar to the sound of plaster falling off the wall onto the floor, on checking we could see evidence of this on the floor.  We all moved to room 4 for the final few minutes, and all guests experienced ghost pro activity, and movement from the rods & pendulums, always moving to their request – to their surprise!

With my second group we stayed at the top of the corridor as all the rods & pendulums were moving a lot.  Jason joined us to film, and whilst standing in the corner a cable that was hanging down, moved over his right shoulder.  He was sure he hadn’t moved so he pushed the cable back and asked if it was spirit to do it again, whilst I filmed.  With a lot of encouragement from all, the cable started swinging, then moved over Jason’s shoulder again.  The pendulums & rods were spinning with force too.  As it all started to slow down everyone decided to explore the area with kit.  Guests were pleased to receive continued evidence of spirit presence by cold touches on their hands when asking, and rods pointing to where the male & female spirits were standing, of which the spirits were apparently related.

Between sessions team had the opportunity for some free time, and myself & Jo took the Ouija table down to the Officers Mess ready for the guests ‘free time’.  We stayed for a short while and tried some table tipping.  The spirit was able to move the table with a lot of rocking.  On leaving I asked spirit did they want the table in room 5 or room 4, asking in turn to give us a sign.  With no response we left the table in the corridor outside room 5.  When the group of guests headed down there I asked for them to check where the table was, only saying it was left in the corridor.  When they returned they asked where I left it, I confirmed in the corridor, they asked outside room 4, I said no – outside room 5, to our surprise the table was found outside room 4, not room 5 !  A ‘lock off’ camera may be need next time !

Again a fab night at Fort Borstal !

Fort Horsted ghost hunt – 1-11-2013 (Jo)

Wednesday, January 29th, 2014

Fort Horsted ghost hunt 1st November 2013

On this event I spent the evening in room 36 and The Whistling Tunnel, using various different electronic devices, taking four groups separately. In all sessions we began with a short 5 minute circle to build energy in the room.

Group 1: Although we had some information given to us via the ghost pro ( a device in which yes/no question may be asked, and spirit can flash the light accordingly to answer, e.g. one flash for yes, two for no), this was by far a more audible session. As a group we all heard footsteps coming towards us and a strange dragging noise in the tunnel leading to the room, which could not be explained however hard we tried! There were also some strange dark shadows in the door way, which most of the group witnessed.

Group 2: This session was very similar to the previous one, much the same information on the ghost pro, a male spirit who had worked at the Fort during WW2, a very private man, not wanting to say to much about himself. Also the spirit of what seemed to be a lady cleaning, we all heard something that sounded like a woman humming a tune during this time.

As well as the ghost pro, we also used a device called Ovilus 3, which allows spirit to use their energy to create a word. Strangely enough spirit told us Dirty (relevant to the lady cleaning possibly?) Spirit also used the word Soldiers, on more than one occasion. After a while we moved from 36 around to the whistling tunnel, where the entire group again witnessed shadows and heard footsteps coming towards us. We also saw many flashing lights at either end of the tunnel.

Group 3: This was the quietest session of the night, although some flashes on the ghost pro and slight k2 activity, there was not really much to report.

Group 4: I had a group of young lads in my last session of the night, and I have to be honest, I thought the worst, that maybe they were a bunch of jokers. How wrong was I! They spotted a stack of plastic chairs in the room and wanted to sit down, so I suggested we sat around in a circle quietly and see what happens. Once we had made ourselves “comfortable” we began to ask out. I had a Mel meter (an all in one temperature Gauge, EMF and rem pod) on the side, about 6ft away form everybody. I asked spirit to walk toward the Mel meter and set the rem pod (lights up and alarms when the energy field is interrupted) off. This happened immediately, and then when asked for again a few minutes later, the same happened. Since I have owned this piece of equipment, it is the first time it had happened, so I was impressed!

Again we all heard footsteps in the tunnel, but this time, spirit did the amount of footsteps we asked for. During this time we had the Ovilus 3 on in the back ground. It said 6, followed immediately by 6 footsteps. Almost as if spirit was now telling us what he was going to do! Throughout the session, there were large temperature fluctuations, and whistles repeated when asked for. All in all, a very interesting hour!

Fort Borstal ghost hunt – 26-10-2013 (Sue)

Wednesday, January 29th, 2014

Fort Borstal ghost hunt Saturday 26th October 2013

Jo and I (Sue) were working in the same area of the Fort so we decided to split the groups into two smaller groups. The guests could then experience some table tipping then half way through swap and try glass work and the Ouija board.

1st vigil Group D – We began by trying to communicate with spirit via the Ouija board but we only had very light movement on the glass. I then took the guests to try table tipping. Very quickly the table was tilting, spinning and moving around the room. The table tilted towards Matt (Guest) and seemed to respond best to his masculine voice. We asked Sprit to take table to where he was stood and the table was dragged with force towards the far corner.

2nd Vigil Group A– We started with the Ouija board. I could see the energy of a male spirit standing in the doorway. I did not say anything to the guests as it seemed the Spirit man was just observing us. Then Chris  (Guest) became quite jumpy, he kept touching his face and neck. I asked Chris if he was ok and he said no it felt like someone was stood behind him and had touched his face and neck. We continued to ask the spirit gentleman questions and the planchette was moving around the board and giving us answers but again the spirit seemed to respond better when the male guests spoke. Feel spirit likes a dominant male voice. We heard the sound of feet dragging on the floor and we kept seeing a dark mass coming from the doorway to just a little way in behind where we was stood and back to the doorway again. Chris continued to feel uncomfortable in this area.

3rd Vigil Group B – Again we had good responses to our questions on the Ouija board. Then a guest (Vicky) became very emotional. Vicky said she had the feeling she wanted to cry. There was cold spots felt by several guests and again we heard the same scrapping / dragging of feet noise that we had heard on the previous vigil. The male spirit was doing much the same and standing in the doorway then just coming up behind someone. We removed the Ouija board and tried just a glass on the table. The glass instantly was drawing shapes circles, squares, zig-zag etc moving faster around the table. Myself and Steve (Guest) suddenly both looked up at the exact same time. We both see in the doorway a very large oval shape glow of light it was approximately 36” high by 20” wide. This oval shape of light moved from the doorway and travelled along the back of the table behind the guests and back to the doorway again. There are no windows and you have to walk down steps, round the corner and through a doorway to get to the area we was in, so there is no way this can be caused my natural light, also no torches were on. I have never witnessed anything like this huge shape of light before. Both Steve (Guest) and I were very shocked to have witnessed this and after describing to each other what we see, we both agreed we had seen the identical shape of light.

4th Vigil Group C – Again good movement on the glass and Spirit gave us his name as Ivan on the Ouija board. We also heard knocking coming from under the table. I had without the guests knowing stood one of the male guests in a certain position around the table (as the men seemed to be effected the most). I never tell guests what other guests had previously experienced. The male guest that was stood in this exact spot started rubbing the back of neck and looking behind him. He said that he felt someone was stood right up close behind him and it was making him feel uneasy. This is what had happened most of the night.

This was my second visit to Fort Borstal and I must admit this place has become a favourite of mine.  So many guests have been touched and have felt spirit stand up close behind them. The large white shape we witnessed move along the back of the room was amazing. We heard the sound of feet scraping on the floor and had movement on the glass and communication on the Ouija board. A very active night at an amazing location. I cannot wait to return to Fort Borstal.

Special thanks to all the guests.

Fort Borstal ghost hunt – 26-10-2013 (Jo)

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 26th October 2013

Session 1: We began with a short séance circle to build energy in the room. Sue then took half the group to the Ouija board and I took the remainder to the table. After a while the table began to rock very gently, Sue then told us we were half way through the session so we swapped over. My group received no movement on the Ouija board but we could see that the table had began to move for the others.

Session 2: Again we split the group in half, Sue to the Ouija and myself to the table. The table began to move immediately and very strongly. When spirit was asked where he was standing, he walked the table very definitely to that area. Spirit did not seem to like one of the male guest, John, and pushed him against the wall with the table. The rest of us removed out hands and left John alone on the table, which continued to move with force. We continued until the end of the session.

Session 3: I took my half of the group to the table and once again we received immediate movement. The movement was constant the entire session and when asked, spirit was twisting and spinning the table, having us running round in circles. Spirit was also “walking” the table to areas that we asked him to. When requested to hold the table in a position, spirit obliged. As usual, once the table was moving, I came away so that the guests could experience this for themselves.

Session 4: As before we had movement straight away. Two of the guests, Mel and Martin ( who were not together) were standing opposite each other so were used as “Yes and No” directions. Spirit answered questions by tipping the table the relevant way, and again was spinning and twisting on demand.

Fort Borstal ghost hunt – 26-10-2013 (Kym)

Wednesday, January 29th, 2014

Fort Borstal, Rochester – 26th October 2013

Area: Officers Mess

Equipment: KII’s, Ghost Pro’s, Dowsing Rods, Pendulums

When I entered the area with the first group of guests, the last few people thought they heard footsteps behind them.  They did stay listening out and thought they heard them again.  Equipment handed out guests had an opportunity to explore.  With the dowsing rods guests were asking spirit to point where the spirit was standing, when asking the question “do you want us to leave” the rods pointed to the door.  One guest started feeling cold around the bottom of her legs, asking where spirit was standing the rods pointed to that guest.  The spirits that were with us were possibly Sgt Andrews that is often here, a soldier from WWI, and a female.  When one guest was pointing the rods she felt them being pulled away from her.

With my second group, kit was passed around and they went off to explore.  Again guests were able to interact with the spirits using the ghost pro’s and dowsing rods.  We had some KII activity at the end, but this was the only time all night.  When guests were using the pendulums, they were able to ask spirit to draw a large circle, then stop at their request.

With my third group we handed out equipment and all went off to explore except two female guests that stayed at the top of the corridor with pendulums.  We were very surprised by the high activity we had with the pendulums rotating, swaying, stopping and vibrating all at our request.  After about 20 minutes of this we all stopped abruptly when we heard a loud female scream down the corridor.  Rushing down we found one guest had had her hair touched, quite forcefully as if someone had run their hands up through her hair.  We all stayed in this room for a while as we were hearing noises but couldn’t be sure if they were coming from other guests.  We then started seeing flashes of green light around the room.  Reluctantly we had to leave as our time was up, but knew we all wanted to come back later in the free session.

With my fourth group we all stayed at the top of the corridor to see if we had the same pendulum activity as before, however little movement with the pendulums but a lot of movement with the dowsing rods.  We asked spirit to rotate/spin the rods around like a helicopter, and to our surprise one started rotating very quickly.  All guests had an opportunity to explore the area, but were keen to return to base for the free session.

With many guests wanting to return to the Officer’s Mess with a table to try glass work/table tipping, Sue (team), Jason (team) and myself returned there with initially four guests.  Immediately with just the guests on the table the glass started moving.  The movement increased rapidly and the guests were able to ask spirit to move the glass in many different ways ie. draw shapes, draw fast circles, stop and change direction immediately when guests (and team) said “now”.  The guests did try asking spirit some yes/no questions but the spirit seemed reluctant to communicate, seeming just wanting to impress.  We then removed the glass and the guests stayed on the table to try table tipping.  The table started rocking gently at first, and then much faster at their request.  We asked for the table to lift up one side, which to our surprise it did.  Then to all our amazement the table went up onto one leg and started rotating, resulting in the guests having to run around the table.  The guests were also able to ask the spirit to stop and change direction – which it did!  This was the first ghost hunt event for these guests (as with many of our guests tonight) and I’m sure it won’t be their last.  During this session Jason (team) left the area saying his chest was feeling tight, on checking he felt much better after leaving.  Some more guests joined us and wanted to try some glass work, and again the glass started moving, although not as rapid as before.  And again we tried table tipping, which the guests experienced some movement.  A great end to the night!

Fort Horsted ghost hunt – 19-10-2013 (Jo)

Tuesday, January 28th, 2014

Fort Horsted – 19th October 2013

Session 1: We began the session with a short 5 minute séance circle to build some energy. Spirit stepped forward and began to shove the men in the group using our arms. No physical activity happened to the women. Next we decided to try table tipping, and received a medium amount of movement, but during this there was knocking on the table when asked for. It seemed spirit found this easier than actually moving the table. Throughout the session, the KII meters were very active, we also heard moans and had consistent temperature drops.

Session 2: Again we began with a 5 minute circle to build the energy. Spirit was asked not to give physical activity during this time. This session was much more audible than the first, we received no movement on the table or with the glass, but continued to hear whistles on demand and footsteps below us in the tunnel and coming up the stairs. A few words were spoken on the Ovilus, but nothing that was relevant at the time.

Session 3: As usual, we started with a 5 minute circle, and some of the ladies in the group began to be moved quite violently, so we bought this to a close. We had very small rocking of the table, so decided to try the Ouija board. A female guest in the group had lost her son, Jake, and felt she was communicating with him via the board, so we continued this for the rest of the session.
