Pluckley Screaming Woods ghost hunt – 27th April 2012

It was touch and go whether this ghost hunt would take place due to the weather, as all week it rained very heavily throughout Kent, however on the night, the weather was absolutely perfect; no wind, no rain and very quiet.

After walking to my familiar starting point, we gave the majority of the guests some electronic equipment to use to investigate, as there were several spirits in the area.

One of these spirit energies, a male energy by the name of Tom, a soldier from the Second World War gave a group of guests’ lots of information via our ghost communication devices, a spirit box and spoke the customers surname via an Ovulus. Which the guests found very surprising, as did my team and I.

Other guests were also getting activity via our K2 EMF meters and our other ghost communicator.

Many guests took photos and photographed many orbs or light anomalies. As a group we heard many footfalls in the woods and at various time saw strange lights.

After moving from this area we held a séance and the male energy from the first location joined us, as did another male energy, who did not give me his name, but he was about 57 years old, quite tall at about 6’4” and was wearing a Royal Navy uniform and the insignia of a First Officer. Both these energies tried to move the guests but nothing was actually felt by any of the guests.

At this location various noises were heard, many of which sounded similar to someone approaching, but no-one ever arrived. Both Marc & Carl (team members) walked further down the path as they were keen to do some EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiments. As they were returning to walk back to the group (they stayed within a visible distance) we all heard a very loud crack deep inside the woods, considering there was no wind, we ruled out anything falling from a tree and since we saw no lights assumed no human was responsible. (I find it very hard to believe anyone could walk through the trees and plants of these woods without a torch).

Whilst in this location we conducted a group EVP with some of the guests and a response was clearly heard at the time. This sounded like a female voice saying “It’s cold” and then a few seconds later “Men in village”, however when this EVP was analysed the first part sounds like something different and currently our experts cannot agree on the actual words spoken by the female voice. As soon as we can establish what exactly is being spoken we will add this to our ghost voice page on the website.

From here we moved to a location that I do not often walk into, mainly because I find it a very uncomfortable area, the woods here do not seem very welcoming and the first time I came here I felt hands around my neck. However since this was a big group I felt that there was a certain amount of safety to proceed. This was definitely a good idea because the photo below was one of many that I took, however this photo was the only one with a mist formation. To us the mist formation has form and looks as if it is formed from the ground upwards. In the full sized photo there are many colours within the mist, namely blue, orange and reds. This is undoubtedly one of the best mist formations pictures that I have ever taken.

Strange Mist formation in Pluckley Woods

Strange Mist formation in Pluckley Woods

I conducted another EVP experiment in this area, which was recorded by all the team (three people) and two of us had spirit voices recorded, however one of the answers to the question posed, we cannot establish what the exact words spoken say. However there is a good response to a guest’s question, you can hear this at:-

http://youtu.be/E8Y_PKGL74I

Once again a very enjoyable ghost hunt and some good quality photographs and EVPs recorded.

Apart from myself, Carl & Marc who are experienced Paranormal Investigators were in attendance. Marc has also written a report.

Red Lion Hotel – 14-4-2012 Part 3

Friday, April 27th, 2012

The Red Lion Hotel, Colchester. Essex – 14th April 2012

Ever since our first ghost hunt at the Red Lion Hotel back in January 2012, we as a team thoroughly look forward to visiting the Red Lion Hotel in Colchester and every time we go more activity and unexplainable episodes are experienced by us and our guests. So our expectations were high, but we were not disappointed.

My designated area for the evening was the cellar, the first group of people were all new to ghost hunting, however spirit energies came forward to provide them with some evidence. We were first joined by a male energy called James, he was about 28 years old and of a slim build and a round face, he gave me the impression that he was a religious man and connected with the church. He gave the year as 1930. James started to use his energy to move us, by gently moving the guest’s arms. Lucy (guest) felt a very odd sensation in her arm, like pins and needles and goose bumps. Kristein (guest) also saw lights and shadows at the other end of the cellar.

Carolanne (guest) said she felt child energies and had the desire to sign patriotic Vera Lynn songs from WWII. During this time I was being swayed left to right, which I didn’t notice until one of the guests mentioned it to me.

When I was calling out for spirit to copy a whistle, some of the guests heard whistles whilst I was talking and one guest heard a whistle in repeat of what I asked for. Audible sound played an important role during the ghost hunt and after a beer barrel was tapped, everyone heard footsteps within the cellar. At one point we all heard a strange groaning sound which I thought came from our remote cameras, other guests however thought it came from outside. On inspection of the footage recorded from this session the groaning sounds more like it actually came from the remote camera than outside.

There was also a female energy present, she was rather nervous and about 16 or 17 years old who had long ginger hair and wearing a very flowery summer dress.

When I asked spirit to make someone smile, Lucy started to laugh out loud, which is exactly what I asked for in my head, as I felt the energies would be able to make people laugh for no real reason.

A Second World War soldier was also present, his name was Matt but that is all the information he gave me.

After we broke the séance circle, myself and Lucy found it quite difficult to let go as it felt that both of us were “stuck” together with an invisible force.

During this session, many noises, footfalls and whistles were heard all within the cellar, the electronic equipment; K2 and Ion meters all registered high levels of activity.

The second group to the cellar felt completely different to me, the energies that were here in the first session had moved on and a male energy by the name of Alfred came forward, he was local man, aged in his late 60s, with greying hair, quite a stocky build who wore a flat cap and was what I would call a typical granddad type. He told me that he tendered an allotment which was straight down the high street. One of the guests (who lived locally) confirmed that this information is correct.

During the resulting séance, strange creaking sounds were heard by all, as if someone was walking on creaky floorboards, however there are no floorboards in this area. Many lights were seen by the guests as well as cold spots.

Alfred did attempt to touch and move some of the guests, however not all guests felt his energy. As I explained to the guests that Alfred would not have touched women (the group was all female) in his physical life and therefore he took those values with him into his spiritual life.

The third group to the cellar once gain had a completely different feeling and we were almost immediately joined by a First World War soldier, whose name was Captain Timothy West, standing about 5’11” wearing round spectacles and sporting a moustache. He was 22 or 23 years of age and carried a crop or stick and wore brown leather boots. Timothy happily started to move the arms of the guests, mainly backwards but would only push the male guests, forwards, backwards and from side to side. Many guests including myself had pains in our ankles which I attributed to Timothy as he was the only spirit energy present. Many of the guests felt cold spots however after about 30 minutes Timothy left us and the cellar felt completely flat. I then decided we would enter the cellar of the coffee shop since this area felt very active on my first visit to the Red Lion Hotel.

Once everyone was seated comfortably in the coffee shop cellar, we all heard a sound that resembled someone crushing a plastic bag. Whilst in this area guests and myself were asking out for spirit to copy rapping sounds and some responses were heard by everyone. Our K2 meters detected lots of activity and during an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena – a.k.a. ghost voice) experiment the K2 meter registered highly after every question that was asked, however at the time we heard nothing audible. However on analyses of the recordings many voices were heard, the best examples can be heard below.

http://youtu.be/j8bvmz_zmMM
http://youtu.be/HibyJG_or6E

Then we heard what sounded like someone rifling through a box of crisps, knocking the box over and running away. I sent Sean (cameraman) up to the coffee shop as I envisaged that someone had entered the coffee shop and was stealing the produce, I followed Sean and the both of us expected to see someone in the coffee shop, or at least the door open. However when we opened the door to the cellar, there was nothing out of place, nor any boxes knocked over, nor in fact any crisp packets within the establishment. One of my team members was outside at this time and on speaking to him he was stood outside for the last ten minutes and saw and heard nothing that could have been responsible for the sounds that we heard. In video footage for this instance the clarity of the sounds we heard is very audible and on watching this you can probably understand our reaction; that someone had broken into the shop.

http://youtu.be/OQte0vTZRTU

All of the guests felt the need to leave the cellar and follow us into the main coffee shop.

From this point on we then had a 30 minute window where we allowed the guests a free roam of the hotel, many of these guests re-visited areas in which they felt the most activity or participated in an activity that they enjoyed the most. Three guests and Sean re-visited the cellar to the coffee shop to see whether the spirit energies could re-create the sounds that we heard moment earlier, however after 20 minutes they returned as nothing was heard.

Once again a very successful ghost hunt at the Red Lion Hotel and an evening where all guests thoroughly enjoyed themselves and experienced all manners of the spiritual activity that the Red Lion Hotel can offer. It is an exceptionally spiritually active hotel and we as a team are looking forward to our next visit in August 2012 and subsequent visits later in the year.

As a sub note, I usually do not sleep after a ghost hunt, as we have a lot of equipment to pack up after our ghost hunts, but this was the first time that I decided I would actually have some sleep (3.5 hours) and as I was lying in bed the bed seemed to jump or jolt, which I thought to be strange and just as I was about to fall asleep I heard a female energy whisper in my ear “Hello”, had I not been very tired I would have investigated this more, but I shall leave this until our return in August. My room was room 10, which is a known haunted room, allegedly the room of the resident ghost Alice Millar.

Fort Horsted ghost hunt 17-3-2012 (team two)

Thursday, March 29th, 2012

FORT HORSTED GHOST HUNT – 17TH MARCH 2012

1.  Group C
We first went to room 10 and after taking photos, lighting tealights and having a general look around, we held a séance.  I immediately felt spirit behind me by extreme cold and being pushed and pulled.  Two guests next to me felt the coldness too.  We started hearing many different noises in the corridor; footsteps and faint whistling.  I then saw a shadow in the doorway, then a guest saw a shadow in an alcove in the wall and the tealight in the alcove flickered greatly at the same time.  Other guests were feeling ‘cobweb touches’ on their faces.  We then stood in the corridor with the laser grid on asking for spirit to come near.  We threw two led balls down the corridor and one seemed to rest against the wall then roll away from the wall and slightly back towards us.

2. Group A
We went to two upstairs rooms in the fort, but after nothing seemed to be happening we moved down to the corridor.  We set up the laser grid pointing down the corridor and two of the guests saw one of the red lights turn off then on.  We split up into two smaller groups along the corridor and asked out for spirit to make themselves known.  After not much being heard we walked down towards a smaller room, and just before entering a whistle was heard.  We stayed in this room for a short while before leaving.  I then took two members of the group to room 10 for a short while whilst the remaining guests visited the graffiti area.

3. Group B
I took this group to room 10 and after a short while started with a séance circle.  Guests were seeing different lights through the doorway into the opposite room, and again different noises were being heard. Jo (guest) started feeling very unwell.  She was feeling sick, hot and dizzy.  We broke the circle as she felt she needed to be sick – which she did!  After checking that Jo was happy to continue we stepped into the corridor and set the laser grid up.  Again we threw the led balls down the corridor but nothing happened.  We then decided to rejoin the other groups and just before leaving, whilst asking the guests if there is anywhere they may like to return to before the end, the lights on the K2 meter lit up for the first time that night.  We asked spirit if we should stay by lighting up the K2 – nothing happed.  We asked spirit if we should go back to the first room the group had been to that night and the lights on the K2 went on.  We then proceeded back to the narrow dead-end tunnel for a short while, but only heard just a few faint noises and whistle.

I would just like to thank all the guests for a great night and a special thank you to Paul for his generous hospitality throughout the evening.

Fort Horsted ghost hunt – 17th March 2012

As a team we look forward to every visit at the Fort, mainly because every single time something unusual or interesting happens, again we were not disappointed.

Even before the ghost hunt had begun, I was showing the team around the Fort as there were some new areas opened up or cleaned up that we could use, whilst in one of these areas, two team members were with me, one stayed at the bottom of the steps. The three of us heard a whistle, I thought it was Carl (who stayed at the bottom) but when we descended the steps, Carl said he didn’t whistle nor had he heard a whistle.

A couple of weeks earlier I had visited the Fort to shoot some video and exactly the same thing had happened then, in exactly the same area.

Whilst in this area Sean felt someone blow in his ear and as I was showing Sean the entrance to the lighting tunnels I just had to fall over! As I often say to the guests and manager at venues, if anyone is going to fall over or bang their heads it is usually me!

We split the group up into smaller groups and each group headed off to their favourite areas, I volunteered to take all the groups to the double casements, as this involves a strenuous 67 stepped staircase. After the group had looked at the various rooms we started a séance in an area which in the past has proved very popular. A male energy by the name of Marcus stepped forward he gave me the date of 1978 and he was 34, and a mechanic. There was some small amount of movement from Marcus but some of the group were not patient and wanted things to happen instantly. Very little else happened in this session because the same people spent most of the time chatting or making unnecessary noises.

The second group that I took to the same area, had already had a very interesting first session, in this area a male energy called Taylor (which I presume was his surname) stepped forward he was in his late 30s or early 40s. He gave me the year as 1972 and he drove a gold coloured Ford Cortina with a red interior and his love was to accessorise his ‘baby’ (the car). When I asked what he did for a living he seemed very reluctant to divulge this information.

A female energy also joined us, her name was Annie and she was a WWI Nurse or FANY. (First Aid Nursing Yeomanry), she came across as being quite strict and was offended by some of the comments made by a male guest. In fact his EVP question was one of the clearest from the whole night.

Both Taylor and Annie started to move the arms of the guests and one guest felt as if she were being pushed down, as she commented that she felt a heavy weight on her shoulders. As a group we all heard whistling and mumblings, some of the guests saw red lights whilst others saw white lights. Guests also felt strange coldness spots and breezes, which is not unusual for this particular room and toward the end of the session groans and grunting were heard by everyone in the group.

We finished the session with an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena) or ghost voice experiment.

The best can be heard at http://youtu.be/qy0JxPAPa2s

The third group to this area had already seen and sampled most of the rest of the fort but once again this particular session (which is probably the most active area within the fort) was just as interesting. We were joined by a WWII soldier called Taff and Timothy, both in their early 20s. Taff was a Welshman with a loud voice and of stocky build, whereas Timothy was from Sunderland, fair skin and ginger and quite shy. There was a third soldier in the background although he never came into this room. There was plenty of movement and guests were pushed by unseen hands, all quite gentle though. We all heard whispering and mumbling again, as if we were hearing the sound of a conversation but not the actual words spoken. There were also some tapping sounds and some rather louder bangs. Some of the tapping noises were in response to me tapping my torch on the railings.

At one point I called out to spirit to make another noise and at that precise moment an owl which I gather was nesting in the moat or on top of the fort called out, which made everyone jump!

The last session we allow the guests to go wherever they wish to and I took a group to casement 10, which was damaged most during the tire fire which lasted for three weeks. This area is also where previous ghost hunts have had experiences with lit candles, because these rooms would have been used to store ammunition, the spirit energies that are present are all too familiar with what happens to open flames near ammunition. Whilst standing with the guests in the left hand room a male energy by the name of Philip made himself known to me. He gave me the year as 1672 (the Fort was not built until 1880) and he kept himself inside the lighting tunnel, almost too afraid to join us. Some of the guests saw shadows in the lighting tunnel as there are four ‘windows’ into the lighting tunnel in this room.

Once again a very eventful ghost hunt and at a location in which the guests thoroughly enjoy mainly because of its lack of modernisation, but that is what is part of its appeal.

South Foreland lighthouse ghost hunt – 29-10-2011

Thursday, December 15th, 2011

This was the first time that this lighthouse had ever been investigated for paranormal activity and it proved to be a very interesting night. South Foreland lighthouse stands high on the cliff just outside of Dover with commanding views over the English Channel. Eerily the cross channel ferries glide past noiselessly.

After a quick historical lesson from Jon (Assistant Visitor Experience Manager – National Trust) and standing outside on what was a lovely windy evening we settled down into two groups.

My group stayed on the second floor, which was the control room. After a short while a male energy made himself know to me, his name was William and he was about 5’11” and of muscular build (he looked like a naval man), 57 years old and he told me that he was a lighthouse keeper in the 1830s, however as he wandered around the circle Kym (guest) jumped and was startled. When questioned why, she said that she heard a whisper in hear ear. After Kym had settled down again we all heard something resembling piano music, which was very odd because it sounded like it was coming from downstairs and there is no piano anywhere in the building. We also heard whispers, voices and general mumbling, both children and adults.

Whilst we were listening for the various voices another male energy arrived, several of the guests smelt Brandy and he gave his name as Turnbull but no other information. Also a very strict woman called Darby Miniot, who was the wife of a past lighthouse keeper also made her presence felt, and a Fisherman who was 19 years old and called Chris, who drowned off the coast in bad seas in 1930s also made their presence known. There were some light pushing from these energies, but it was the sounds of all the whisperings and voices that captured our imagination at the time, as they were in some cases really loud and distinct although the actual words we could not hear.

After a short break we made our way into the boiler room this was a very echoing room and no one wanted to look at the door or be near the door as they kept seeing shadows and movement around the door.

I also started tapping on one of the metal items and we all heard those same taps repeated to us and a few louder thumps, creaking and whistling. Although the whistling could have been the wind but considering it was very windy outside the whistling only seemed to occur very sporadically.

This session was abruptly stopped when I was needed by the other group as one of the guests was trying to get out by any means necessary and since the whole building was in darkness and the stairs are very narrow and steep I needed to escort the person down safely. After this guest had come downstairs, our group moved to the first floor to continue our investigation although once again it was interrupted the by same guest as he now felt physically sick. We carried on for a little while but very little happened and then the other group came down the stairs.

Our third session we all stayed in one group with people spread out on the staircase from the ground floor to the second floor, many noises ranging from whistles, taps and raps were heard by everyone and the loudest of bangs was coming from the Control room, so a couple of guests stationed themselves in this room and still the noises continued, apparently the bangs were coming from an old wooden cabinet and footsteps we also heard in this room. Down on the lower floor myself and another guest could see shadows moving across the room and at one stage I lost my vision, it was like someone had just shone a torch in my eyes in complete blackness, my eyes were rapidly trying to re-adjust, when that happened I moved away from this area as that was quite painful.

As I was tapping on a metal box on the wall for spirit to repeat the series of taps I heard a whisper which said “what is that” however no-one else heard anything apart from me asking out to spirit and the taps that I made.

This venue is one that we may return to at a later date to investigate the nature of the noises that we heard. However everyone thoroughly enjoyed the night and for some of us it didn’t end there.

We would like to thank Jon Barker from the National Trust for his patience throughout the night and Gareth Wiltshire for allowing the ghost hunt to take place.

Since the clocks were going back that night and we had finished at 1:00am from the lighthouse, some of us decided that we would investigate the WWII bunkers that were accessible from the track way leading from the lighthouse. This consisted of two rooms, linked together with a medium long tunnel which split in a Y shape into each room. Having no idea what these were used for, although from my knowledge of war time bunkers I would hazard a guess one of the rooms was used for storage of ammunition since there was a lighting tunnel. It was in this room that we started and almost immediately a Sergeant McBride and Private Jenkins made themselves known to me. They were from a Scottish regiment from WWII. I asked if they could make a noise that we could all hear. They did. It sounded to everyone that they were walking amongst us, we could very clearly hear footfalls on the dusty floor all around us, many of the guests found this very frightening because when a torch was switched on no-one had moved nor was there any sign of animals which could have made the same sort of noise. Every time the torches were switched off the footfall noises continued. A couple of guests also saw lights in the corner of the room and many of us heard whistling, although we ruled out the wind, because we were below ground and it wasn’t windy through the tunnel or outside the entrance to the tunnel.

One of the guests asked me whether they knew that they had passed over and unfortunately they did not, so then the investigation turned into a rescue as their Brigadier (who did not give his name) asked that all his men were led to safety. I sensed that he might have known, but didn’t have the courage to tell his men, which is very typical of what we know of WWII commanding soldiers, that carry on regardless attitude. We made our way to the entrance tunnel where the rescue was going to take place. Many orbs were captured by us in this tunnel, especially towards the entrance and as I said that all the men (One hundred and twenty three of them) were lining up and walking towards us. The photographed orbs also seemed to be heading towards us and getting brighter and more intricate. After the rescue had taken place there seemed an air of tranquillity in the tunnels and that our investigation had been worthwhile so we headed home.

This was an excellent end to an already interesting night and all the guests thoroughly enjoyed themselves, especially those who had an extra ghost hunt in the WWII bunkers.

Fort Horsted ghost hunt – 3-9-2011 – lynn

Monday, September 12th, 2011

FORT HORSTED – 3rd September 2011
We were all looking forward to the ghost hunt at the Fort, this was our second visit and were hoping on as good as our first visit.

The night was still and warm I took my first group Graeme, Mia, Sarah, Helen, Simon and another Helen into tunnel 10.

We lit some small candles in the room to the right of the mail tunnel as it was pitch black.
We started with séance, the group was very quiet so I started to ask them if they had had any other experiences as we were chatting a male energy called Stanley came in he was about 55-60 years old when he passed. He appeared to be quite tall, and skinny he was wearing a very smart suit and told me he was a clerk, he did not tell me how he had passed, I asked Stanley if he could give us some gentle pushes or pulls to let the guest know he was there, both Graeme and my right arm shot backwards, then forwards. I asked Stanley to go round the circle and do something to the other guests. Mia and one of the Helens reported that their arms were moving,

We decided to go into the main tunnel where we again did a séance I asked Simon to stand next to me as he had never had any evidence, I asked spirit to step forward and a little boy of about 6 or 7 came through, he started swinging our arms then lifted them Simon was very impressed with this, everyone heard footsteps and mumbling. A lady came through who was about 40 years old she was quite butch but would not give me any other information. We broke the circle and we all stood around taking photos and listening out there was still lots of strange noises, I went to use my camera and the batteries had completely drained one of the other guest said their camera had done the same. We made our way back to meet with the other group.

My second group went back to tunnel 10 with me were Carl, Jo, Mark, Bradley, Carrie and Lou.
We started off with a séance circle, again straight away we all heard strange noises no one could work out where they were coming from or what they were. Mark (seasoned Ghost hunter) said he was feeling a tall man around him, we had some arm movement, Carrie was unsure of this and asked spirit not to do it to her, everyone commented on cold blast of air around them, we broke the circle and went out in to the main tunnel everyone felt they did not want to do another séance circle, again lots of footsteps could be heard, but could not work out what direction they were coming from, we went into the room to our left. Carrie at this stage said she felt very sick and had pain in her tummy, I place my hands on her back ant tummy after a few minutes she said it had gone, we all stood around trying to work out where the sounds were coming from, Carl said he saw a face peer around the door, someone else said they saw it as well. Both Mark and myself felt that one of the energy’s around us had taken their own life in this room. We made our way out towards the door, instead of going out to our left we went further down the tunnel to our right, I felt very uncomfortable in this part so did some of the others, Jo said she could hear a noise which we all heard at first we could not work it out, Jo and Carl thought it was running water, Mark then said it sounded more of a roar of fire, we all confirmed that this was what it was, ( I later checked with Paul who said that tunnel 10 was badly affected by the fire, Mark threw a ball and asked spirit to return it to us he also set his EMF meter which went crazy the red light was really going (this is a sign that Spirit is around us), we tried asking question using the EMF with one flash for yes and 2 flashes for no, every time we asked a question spirit went away, we went back to the main tunnel and again set up the EMF which was again staying on red.  Every time we asked the question are you happy spirit just went away. One of the spirits that came through using the EMF meter said he was a French prisoner of war we got the name Joel.
We finished up and made our way back to the main group.

I took my 3rd group back to tunnel 10 the group was made of Graham and Debbie (seasoned Ghost hunters), Carole, Julie, Ellen and Elisa.

We made our way into the room to the left of the main tunnel, it was very dark and the candles had nearly gone out I lit 4 candles 2 at far end of room and 2 opposite the door way,
We held séance circle and asked spirit to come through, again we heard lots of weird noises, footsteps and the strange mumbling, I asked spirit to blow the candles out,
As spirit was not responding to me I asked Graham to call out as the previous group they had responded well to Mark and Carl.

After a while of just feeling uncomfortable we made our way into the other room, again lots of strange noises, an energy came through called Simon He was lost and seemed quite upset I said we would help him to go over, the group were doing their own thing, and everyone noted different temperatures in the room, we went back into the left room and Debbie noted that the candles had moved instead of 2 in each alcove there was 1 in the end and 3 in the other, there was also wax dripped where it appeared to be moved unfortunately we did not have any evidence to prove the place of the candles were, we did take photos after.
Graham threw a penny and asked spirit to return it to him; again we heard mumbling, which appeared to be coming from all around us,

To sum up we had a fantastic evening with all groups getting some evidence, either being moved or by hearing things. Everyone got some form of orbs on their cameras.
Fort Horsted did not let us down.

Fort Horsted ghost hunt – 3-9-2011 – kym

FORT HORSTED 3rd September 2011

Investigation 1 ~ Jo, Carl, Louise, Marc, Bradley & Carrie
We headed to an upstairs room on the right hand side of the fort, taking photos and using the EMF which lit up to show spirit present.  Temperature was 15 degrees, later rising to 17 degrees, but returning to 15 degrees when we left.  We then used the Ouija board to talk with spirit.  We had a little response; Female, age 44, from 1700’s.  She tried to spell her name but it wasn’t conclusive.  We asked if she could make a noise, to which she replied yes, but we couldn’t hear anything.  We then held a séance circle.  Immediately we had a spirit present, Marc identified her as a girl, age 7/8, called Emily.  She was very mischevious, having great fun moving several guests.  And not just arm movement, Jo & Louise were moved around the room, twisting and turning several times.  We then whistled and asked spirit to repeat, of which it did, several times.  We assumed this came from the male energy on the stairs.  Carl and Marc stepped out of the circle to listen out for the noises, Marc sensing the male energy frightened the little girl.  At that point the girl left, and the male energy came in the room.  As we looked over to Carl he was doubled over in pain.  He had been punched in the stomach, but no-one was near him.  We promptly put him in the circle to help him recover.  We then left the room, and as we got to the bottom of the stairs, we heard what sounded like a large wooden door slam to our right.  We went to investigate, but it was a dead end, and no door.  We did ask spirit to repeat our knocks, of which we heard taps on the wall.

Investigation 2 ~ Graham, Debbie, Carol, Ellen, Julie & Elisa
We returned to the same room, and with the EMF showing spirit present we tried the Ouija board, but had no movement.  We did a séance circle and immediately we were hearing noises, when asking spirit to respond when asked nothing, but when ignoring spirit, noises were heard.  We proceeded down the stairs, and again heard what sounded like a door closing.  On investigating more noises were heard.  We then went into a room and twice we heard what sounded like a female moaning.  We closed the wooden doors and asked spirit to knock/open them.  Debbie & Graham who were standing next to the door heard a tap, when asking for spirit to repeat louder no response.

Investigation 3 ~ Mia, Graham, Sarah, Helen, Simon & Helen

We proceeded to the furthest part in the fort, and started with a séance circle.  I felt a spirit present, and Mia & I were moved backward and forward several times.  I then had the name Robert in my head, and asked spirit, if this was his name, could he move my arm.  Mine & Mia’s arm promptly moved up.  I then asked Robert to move around the circle and affect the other guests, but unfortunately no response.
As this group wanted to use the Ouija Board we tried this back in the Meeting Room – no response.  We then tried in a different room (Lynn’s room) but again no response.

I would like to thank Paul and his team for a fantastic night and look forward to being invited back again.

Fort Horsted ghost hunt – 3-9-2011 – steve

Fort Horsted ghost hunt 3rd September 2011

Fort Horsted is an amazing place, our first event there was a very active location and this time around we were not disappointed either. The group was split into equal sized groups and each group embarked on several very different areas. Each Medium or Paranormal Investigator has written a report.

My group headed for the double casements, this involved a very steep climb down some nasty staircases, nasty because it is very tiring.

After starting a séance circle various energies were present although none seemed to want to be identified, however we heard various footfalls, mumbling, tapping and voices. These noises could not have come from any of the other groups, as we were separated by quite a distance.
Various shadows were seen, whilst I was experimenting with my laser pen Graham thought that Debbie was behind him as he felt a brush against his jacket, but when he looked around no-one was behind him. During this laser pen experiment, which casts a grid of light, many people including me saw some shadows, all the while we were all still hearing footsteps, which sounded like they were approaching, but no-one arrived.

Each session the group of people experienced a different Medium and a different area, so for my 2nd session I headed for the furthest part of the fort, away from everyone. This time around we had some gentle arm movement and pushing, this was attributed to two male energies who enjoyed pushing Graeme and Mia, so much that they were bent over, virtually touching the floor. During this time once again we heard various mumbling sounds (like distant whispering). During the laser pen experiment, once again some interesting photos were taken by the guests, one of which had a very strange person shaped shadow caught within the light. It takes a reasonable amount of technical photographic knowledge to capture the laser light, as a flash will “knock out” the laser light, so the photo has to be taken over several seconds. I too have some odd photos which are still being analysed.

My 3rd session the guests wanted to go to the double casements, which meant heading for those lovely staircases! After everyone had recovered from the intense walking, once again I started by holding a séance, this time another group was in the same area. However more or less instantly Carl started laughing, without any reason whatsoever. (This happened previously in my group when we were in this area at the last investigation in June). Various hot and cold spots were felt by the guests, there were some gentle arm movements and some vigorous movements. One of the male energies that was affecting the guests was called Webb and he was a WWII soldier, quite a gentile character and it was his energy that the guests could feel as hot and cold spots. There was also a female energy present, she seemed very shy, however I have an EVP which she calls out he name (this EVP is still being analysed, however I can only hear Laura as her name, however the experts cannot agree at the moment). Various lights were seen by the guests, mostly behind me.

The 4th Session we allowed the guests to more-or-less go wherever they wanted for about 30mins to either hold their own mini ghost hunt, or to go somewhere with a Medium. Most of the guests at this time decided that they were tired, however I had a group of people who wanted to experience something, so we headed for one of the magazines. This proved a very active area as within seconds of us starting a séance circle we heard approaching footsteps, whispers and groans. There was a male energy present, he seemed to be dressed like a builder and gave me the impression he was from the 1960s. This energy proceeded to push the guests gently forwards and backwards. There was one candle lighting the room and I then asked for spirit to blow it out. As soon as I said that it flickered very vigorously (bearing in mind it hadn’t flickered at all until this point) this continued every time I asked for spirit to blow the candle out, however it was close to be extinguished once or twice, but it never actually went out. However during this time we were still hearing footsteps and at one moment we heard a loud metallic crash, this I thought was someone walking down the corridor, as there are metal gratings covering holes in the floor, however if someone was walking over these gratings the only place they could have ended up was where we were, and no-one arrived. Towards the end of the session we all started to see various lights and then we all thought we saw a bat or something flying in the room. This was too much for one of the girls and she put her torch on, but there was nothing to be found in the area of the room where moments earlier we all heard something flapping. A very strange experience.

Once again everyone enjoyed the Fort Horsted experience, many photographs, EVPs and video footage was recorded on the night and as soon as our evidence has been verified we will publish it on the website.

Deal Rifle club ghost hunt – 27-8-2011

Deal Rifle Club ghost hunt – 27-8-2011
When I was approached by a member of this club to “have a look” I wasn’t expecting much, because of the nature of the place (they shoot guns) I wasn’t expecting spirit to be very active. I was wrong, this is an active place and we certainly were not disappointed throughout the investigation.
This venue is probably the smallest I have ever investigated, basically there are two rooms. The club room for teas and coffees and the shooting lanes. The rifle range room is 25 yards long, so there was space. I don’t know what I was expecting, but I certainly did not expect to have the activity that occurred.
We started with a séance in the rifle range, I became aware of a young male energy who was dressed as a WWII soldier although his uniform looked different from UK soldiers and when he gave me his name it became apparent that his was Swedish, unfortunately I cannot remember who to spell his name it was quite long and unpronounceable in English. The soldier was about 5’6” in height and he started moving the hands of Justine, me and Christine. At the same time Andy was also being moved gently.
Lynn picked up on another male energy, he was in his early 60s and I could see him dressed in a plain blue boiler suit, Lynn got the name Bert. Bert started by gently moving the arms of John & Lynn. Whilst this was happening Justine and myself heard what sounded like footsteps, at one point we heard a metal clank and then about 7-10 footsteps. Everyone heard this and John asked whether we had shut the outside door, because it sounded like someone had entered the building and walked down the passageway. (Which was adjacent to the room we occupied)
We asked if it were Bert who was making the noise (1 tap for no, 2 taps for yes) and we all heard two taps. Lynn asked many more times for Bert to tap, which he did, some were more audible than others, but generally everyone heard those taps. During this I (and others) heard metal sounding taps coming from the far end of the room. The pellet collectors and baffles were metal, however we could not establish what was making these noises at the time because of the noises which were coming from the wall that separates the corridor and the rifle range.
Whilst all this was going on some of the guests were more vocal than others and I had noticed that Marc who would usually have said something, especially about the noises, remained very silent. After asking him if he was OK for about the third time and having no response I decided that he may have been in trouble, so I proceeded to stand behind him holding the arms of the people who were next to him, thus placing him effectively in the middle of the circle. Marc then immediately stated that he was OK. However afterwards he explained to me that although he was aware of what was going on he could not respond at the time, he also felt that his chest was tightening from the back and his legs had just locked up. Below is how Marc described the feeling in his own words.
“I felt as if the whole of my back, shoulders, neck, head and legs were being “forcibly pressured” horizontally and downwards from my shoulders, whilst experiencing a strange tingling sensation’ likened only to a mass pins and needles effect, in all of the aforementioned areas, almost rendering me paralysed! I felt cold and squeezed and experienced the sensation of a difficulty in breathing. At the point I realised you were standing behind me, forcibly parting my hands from those of my neighbours in the closed circle,I began to recover my senses and total awareness of my surroundings. I felt the presence of a female, nothing malevolent or oppressive, who sought merely to experience the sensations of my physical being. I have encountered this once before but with slightly different results and it was a male entity on that occasion. I have suffered no after effects whatsoever.”
Many guests experienced cold spots, the room was effectively sealed against drafts. It was the amount and volume of the tapping however that made all of us generally speechless, because at first these sounded distant, no-one could be sure which direction they were coming from. But as the taps became louder they seem to originate from the separating wall.
I asked Bert (the spirit) to tap twice in quick succession and then we would leave him alone and take a break. Almost instantly we all heard two very loud taps.

After a coffee break, we all assembled back in the rifle range, although I wasn’t expecting spirit to top the experience, but nevertheless we tried various experiments. I had set up my laser grid, in the hope that if spirit could walk in the room the laser light would be affected and I had placed my two EMF (Electromagnetic Force) Metres at the lower end of the room. Marc also had his EMF closer to the shooting area. Just after setting up the laser grid the laser seemed to twinkle, it isn’t supposed to do this, although looking at a laser is not a good idea, but it seemed as if the laser light was fluctuating, which it shouldn’t because the batteries were new and no one was holding the device.
A female energy had joined the group and the group were generally asking questions and getting some responses, but nothing like what happened in the first session. However Marc threw some of his flashing LED balls in the hope that spirit would throw them back. But as Marc and I became aware that where the pellet collectors were situated was generally where we were hearing some odd tapping sounds. When Marc and I were standing close to the baffles we both heard many taps, although later Sean came down to the same area and he noted that it sounded like the plastic lights. I however still believe that some of the noises were the lights but some were definitely metallic in nature. Since Sean was filming and I was recording with my audio recorder I am hoping that I can isolate and compare the two noises to see if the early sounds were those of the lights or metal. What I don’t really understand is why the lights would be making a noise (like cooling down) because they were not turned on all evening.
Marc recorded that there was quite a large temperature difference between the two ends of the room. Where we were hearing noises was 16 degrees Celsius and a few minutes prior to this activity the temperature was 19.3 degrees Celsius. There was no obvious reason for this sudden drop in temperature.
After this some people tried using a Ouija board with some mixed results and I was using a writing planchette. We had a female energy come through who couldn’t spell or write, but she could draw, through some careful question asking I managed to ascertain that she passed in 1749 and was killed at 37 years old due to her own brother, she was married with children. She was able to draw squares, circles and basic shapes and when each one of us on the board imagined or drew a shape that the others could not see the spirit responded by repeating the shape on the paper.
All in all this was a surprisingly good ghost hunt with hopefully some useful evidence captured (the camera footage & EVP recordings have not yet been fully analysed). But one which would be good to repeat just to see if the tapping sounds occurred again.

Kings Wood ghost hunt – 5-8-2011

Monday, August 8th, 2011

Having previously held a ghost hunt at Kings Wood, I knew  how much walking was required to get into the interesting part of the wood.
After our route march I stopped at a location which was close to where the balloons were launched during WWI but because the ground was covered in ants & we found an ant hill about 2′ high no-one really wanted to stay here, so we walked a little further and stopped for our first session.

This was an areaof woods that I haven’t visited before, but our EMF (Electromagnetic Field) detectors were flashing constantly of spirit activity. However whilst the metres were flashing, as soon as anyone took out a camera or an audio recorder the lights on EMF stopped and all remained spiritually very quiet. However unperturbed we took photos and investigated the area of woodland that I had suggested we stop at.

I then decided that we should hold a séance to try to encourage spirit to come forward. During the initial stages there were lots of odd noises, but they didn’t sound like trees or birds, it wasn’t very windy either but the noises were high up in the trees. A male energy made himself known to me, he looked a bit like an Action Man, by that I mean his face was a bit featureless it looked plastic. However he proceeded to give gentle movement, but when I asked for spirit to make a loud noise Debbie (guest) screamed because someone had just blown or whispered in her hear and that startled her a bit!

Nevertheless we carried on and although the male energy I could clearly see wasn’t a malicious energy, there were shadows moving in the background and we all heard foot falls in the background which was unnerving because you couldn’t walk 2′ in these woods without making a noise. As I requested the energy to do something else, Graham (guest) became startled because someone had also just whispered or blown into his ear. The general feeling was that of apprehension as if something was going to happen but we didn’t know when. The male energy that I could see was about 6’2″ and seemed older than what you would expect a soldier to be, he was wearing army fatigues and had a tin hat with webbing on top, exactly like a camouflage soldier Action Man. Scott (guest) then exclaimed that someone had touched him on the leg, there was a tree branch behind him but he said he wasn’t standing near that and even if he were it wasn’t strong enough to feel what he had just felt. With this I decided to break the séance since very little was actually happening apart from noises coming from deeper inside the wood. Scott investigated and came back to tell us that there was an
interesting tree that we should investigate, we followed and yes it was an interesting tree, in fact two trees which had grown together and interwoven themselves which each other.

This spot also once again seemed to be highly active with spirit energy but when a camera came out the activity just stopped. Whilst standing near to this tree I suggested an EVP (Electronic Voice
Phenomena) experiment. I have never heard so many people forget what they wanted to say, it was the funniest EVP experiment in the eight years I have been ghost hunting, unfortunately the recording I’ll probably never be able to publish as the language is certainly adult in every way. However in amongst the sensible questions there were 5 spirit voices captured the best one can be heard at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SG-xf9O4U0Q

From here we moved on to the older part of the wood, one which coincidentally doesn’t have a lot of visitors because it is very deep
into the woods. Once we stopped the EMF metre lit up like a Christmas tree, but as soon as a camera was turned on it stopped. From what I felt at the time it seemed that the women & children spirit were inquisitive but the males were calling them back, as we were outsiders & that is pretty much how everyone felt, as if we didn’t belong. Scott & Debbie went for a stroll and came back very quickly as they heard an odd noise. According to Scott it sounded like someone banging something wooden on a metal railing. The rest of us were about 50 feet away and we heard nothing, although we did hear a fairly loud
noise between us and Debbie & Scott, which they didn’t hear. This sounded like something being dropped from a reasonable height.

Whilst everyone was wondering around I decided to conduct an EVP experiment or two and whilst the actual words we cannot decipher the tone is of anger, which would back up my theory that we were somehow invading their privacy.

Although this was completely different to many of the ghost hunts that we undertake, not least because of the amount of walking, but the
reluctant nature of the spirits it was still enjoyable and I am hopeful that we can clean up the rest of the EVPs so that we can hear what the spirits were telling us.
