Fort Borstal ghost hunt 31st August 2013
Rochester. Kent

Fort Borstal is a favourite location of so many of the GHE team and since every time we return to this venue similar yet different paranormal elements occur. We never really know what to expect!

On this particular evening we only split the group into two smaller groups, normally we would split the whole group into three but many of the GHE team were away on holiday. Which left the guests more free time to explore the Fort after our controlled sessions.

As ever, I chose the counterscarp galleries for my sessions, not least because similar paranormal activity happens within this tunnel complex and it is also the one area of the fort where no outside noise can infiltrate. It is also one of the most interesting areas of the fort.

The first group to this area the group apprehensively wandered down the long tunnel to the end rooms. We started a séance circle and after explaining what may happen (based on what has happened on previous ghost hunt) one male spirit energy approached the group. This particular spirit I have seen and felt many times at the Fort, so have other guests.

His name is Captain Daniel Bedford and he would have been quite a strict person, but he is able to easily touch and move people. After asking for him to gentle touch and move people in some way, the guest to my right felt her arms starting to lift and at the time she wondered whether it was me moving her arms. I then was able to prove beyond any doubt that it was in fact Captain Daniel who was moving our arms. The guest in question then became silent and was testing both me & Captain Daniel and asked for her arms to be moved in various ways, all in her head so that I could not hear what she asked for.

I asked Daniel to move around the circle and do this to other people, but unfortunately he was unable to do this unless I moved around the circle, which I did twice so that others could feel this strange sensation. After several guests felt their arms moving and asking for their arms to be moved in a particular way by Daniel we ended the séance and the guests started to wander throughout the counterscarp gallery with some of our electronic ghost hunting equipment. Many guests were able to have meaningful answers to their question via this equipment and those that held our KII (EMF) meters noticed a correlation between the high levels shown on the meters and the amount of communication that followed.

The second group to the counterscarp galleries were not as nervous as the first group, probably because they had just encountered spirit in another part of the Fort and had become accustomed to the dark and not quite so scared of the dark.

Captain Daniel was still present and he was able to do much the same to many of the guest’s arms, but this time I did not have to move around the circle, he was able to move people of his own free will. Daniel was also able to do more with this group of people and instead of just lifting and manipulating people’s arms he was able to push some people forwards and rock them backwards as well. Some guests were also swayed and gently rocked from side to side.

After we finished the séance, once again the guests wandered around the counterscarp galleries with our ghost hunting equipment and many guests had their questions answered by Capt. Daniel.

After the controlled sessions we always allow the guests to wander around this Fort freely to visit other areas of the Fort that we didn’t investigate during the ghost hunt. I joined two guests who were hopeful that they would both have some interesting evidence. For this part of the night I escorted them to an area which we don’t often use as part of the ghost hunt because it is extremely dangerous to get to and is a very small area; The World War Two command post.

Here there was a spirit called Timothy who tried to touch both guests and move them but it took a long time before they felt his energy.

Whilst here I conducted an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiment. Out of the six questions there were four answers, but unfortunately two of those we couldn’t decipher or understand what Timothy had said. The other two can be heard at:-

Once again an interesting ghost hunt and one which many guests were able to experience first-hand physical paranormal activity.

Fort Borstal Invitation Ghost Hunt 27th July 2013

I was in the Officers Mess for the evening and we had set up the cameras covering the corridor and three rooms, this could be viewed on a screen in one of the rooms, and was being recorded all night.  We also had the Ouija board and writing planchette in one room with the option of using blindfolds and earplugs to provide a sensory experience.

With my first group after observing the cameras for a short while, we started with the writing plancette and had movement immediately. Whilst establishing with the ghost pro who the spirit was, a female aged under 16, we heard a heavy footfall in the corridor.  The planchette continued to move, but no written message given, although it moved to the edge of the table and as one corner went over the edge of the table it started lifting up and down.  Then very quickly it stopped and we all felt the energy change.  The ghost pro confirmed we had a male spirit with us.  With no more movement on the writing planchette we tried with hands on the table and asked spirit to move the table, to which he obliged and started gently rocking the table.

Our second group was much less active, and as the guests started to look very relaxed with their fingers on their glass, possibly too relaxed, I asked spirit to wake up the guests, to which we were all surprised when we heard something loud falling on the floor.  This was one of the ghost pros, which was in Graham’s (guest) pocket.  However he was sure he had half zipped up his pocket…..

The third group wanted to start with the writing planchette, and all wearing blindfolds.  Immediately the planchette started moving around the paper but no visible message given.  As the energy felt very strong I suggested removing their fingers until just one person was left touching.  We were all amazed when the planchette didn’t stop with just one finger left.  The spirit seemed to want to play rather than write a message as the planchette was continually taken to the edge of the table and over the side, moving along the side fast when asked.  When the planchette was put back on the table and asked to moved in circles it did.  Again the guests tried removing their fingers until just one left touching, and although it stopped moving around the table/paper, the planchette started tipping up and down, very unusual, definitely a playful spirit.

Whilst four guests were doing this, one guest was holding the Ovilus III, and the following words came through; SIX (of which we replied yes there are six of us) COUNT (we replied by asked the spirit to count how many spirits were with him) FIFTEEN !!

With my fourth group we started with the writing planchette and Ouija board but no movement.  We did hear whistles in the corridor and encouraged by this we asked spirit to copy our whistles, of which we had replies.  However after a short while the whistles we were hearing changed to be more animal like and on checking we realised a bird had started replying to us.  We did hear footsteps in the corridor which sounded like someone walking through a puddle, of which there was one just inside the entrance.  We then did a séance circle in the corridor, and Matt & Karen’s  (guests) arms started moving up gently.  They took it in turns to ask spirit where to move their arms, of which spirit obliged.  One guest felt like someone pushing the backs of legs.  With no more than just gentle swaying/movement we stopped.  The guests then went back to the table and tried the Ouija board but only little movement.

Then for the last hour the guests had the opportunity to explore on their own…

Fort Borstal ghost hunt – 27-7-2013

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 27th July 2013
Rochester, Kent

I have personally waited many years to hold an indoor ghost hunt during a thunderstorm because I believe that it would be more atmospheric. This particular event proved that to be the case, atmospheric it certainly was. The thunderstorm waited until we were about to start and then continued for about three hours.

As this was an invitation only event there were four groups and each group were all as far away from each other as possible so that we could be sure that no noise could be heard from each group.

As ever I volunteered to go to one of the most physically demanding areas as the staircase has about 100 steps, which is 200 steps because you have to return!

We had set up all our motion sensor lights in one of these tunnels just to see if spirit could turn on one or two of the lights whilst we were at one of the counterscarp galleries.

The spirit energies in this part of the Fort didn’t really change all night, although the spirit energies were some that I have met before.

The first group there was lots of communication via our electronic equipment and considering the thunderstorm was in full swing and echoing throughout these tunnels we all heard something heavy being dropped inside the tunnels as it landed with a thud, what it was though we could not establish, nor see anything suspicious. Some of the motion sensor lights turned on periodically at the far end of the tunnel.

During the second group’s séance part there was some slight arm movement and when the motion sensor lights that were turning on and off randomly, some of us thought we saw the legs of a person, this was so real that one of the team (Sean) went to check to make sure it wasn’t a real person. It wasn’t.

The third group’s séance session, once again there was some light arm movement and the touching of chins with people’s arms. Many guests were also pulled backwards. During the séance many strange bangs were heard, although they did not seem to come from outside, but because of the echo in the tunnel this could not be ruled out. Although it is very unusual to hear outside noises in these tunnels because of the dry moat that surrounds the fort usually blocks all outside sounds.

The fourth séance group had the most activity in the counterscarp galleries, probably because of two reasons, firstly all the other séances were conducted in the main counterscarp galleries, but for this session I held the séance in the end room as this is where (on past ghost hunts) we get most of the activity. There was also a different spirit energy present; Capt Daniel Bedford who is relatively responsible for many of our good sessions in this part of the fort as he has much more energy and is able to move people more easily. Once again this started with very positive arm movement which quickly turned into pushing and pulling people, so much so that some people were pulled backward until their backs were against the walls.

The majority of people once pushed against a wall were then dragged by their arms or legs down to the floor, some guests were twisted until they had no choice but to join the rest of us on the floor. Once everyone was on the floor, little else happened.

After our controlled sessions we let all the guests roam the fort with our equipment to hold their own ghost hunts or vigils, I joined a group of people in the World War Two command post. Here there was a female spirit, her name was Debra and she was an ATS “Ack Ack” girl. (ATS Girls manned the anti-aircraft guns during the Second World War). There was also a male energy present who gave me the name of Devon (I presume this to be his surname) and although he was a military man he was dressed in 1950s attire. The rope that was hanging from the ceiling (a swing) looked as if it were moving but because we didn’t have any IR night vision cameras with us, we were unable to confirm this because we know that light plays tricks with our eyes in the dark. This was the first time that I had held any sessions in this part of the fort and many of the KII (EMF) meters were showing large spikes of energy and there was also some useful communication via the electronic equipment.

This was an invitation event and many of the guests thoroughly enjoyed the ghost hunt because we were using areas of the fort that we don’t usually use during our public ghost hunts and had the thunderstorm not started when we started we would have taken the guests into the dry moat as this area has never been investigated before. However we plan on repeating an invitation only event at this fort and next time there will be more areas that will be open for investigation.

Fort Borstal private ghost hunt – 13-7-2013

Tuesday, August 13th, 2013

Fort Borstal private ghost hunt 13th July 2013
Rochester, Kent

Due to this being a private ghost hunt we do things a little differently and allow the guests to have a lot more free time or time not set aside for fixed activities. We have found this usually makes the spirit energies more likely to engage with us and thus everyone gets a better ghost hunt.

After splitting the relatively small group down into two small groups, each group headed off, I took the first group to the Officers’ Mess and picked one of the many active rooms.

Within a few minutes two spirit energies came into the room; a female nurse from Second World War era called Margaret, who was about 25 years old, and about 5’8” in height and an unknown male energy who just looked at people and then promptly left. Although this male energy did continuously pop in and out and every time he did, some people in the room felt his presence.

Various KII (EMF – Electro-Magnetic Field) spikes were seen on the meters and there were also various communication answered on our electronic equipment.

I then asked a few guests to hold out their hands so that they could feel Margaret’s energy and several guests reported feeling the same sensations; a static electricity that started in their fingers and slowly travelled up their arms until it reached their elbow and a warm sensation.

After this I started a séance to try to get the spirit energies to come and touch various people. Within a few minutes Margaret was able to lift some peoples arms, starting with me, but it was easier for me to move around the circle so that everyone could feel what it felt like. Many of the hand movements were on command. I then asked the spirit to push or sway people and whilst the activity was slow, many guests did feel themselves losing their balance, which is a common occurrence when spirit try to move people.

Several times Carl (GHE team) whistled and asked for a response, however we heard a whistle response, but Carl didn’t.

At the end of this session we allowed the guests to roam about with our equipment.

The second group to this area, we started in the same room as the first and within a matter of minutes, Margaret came through and once again guests were able to ask questions and get intelligent answers. This time there was also another male spirit who I have come across before, but since I don’t usually spend time in this area during the public ghost hunts it has been a while since I talked to this spirit energy. His name was Sergeant Andrews and whilst we would call him a strict person, he did not think like that.

During the séance part of the night, arm movement was much better than the first group and always happened on command and this time the spirit energies were able to move different people within the group, without me having to move. Several guests had parts of their bodies stroked (chests and arms) and many had slow but defined punches, some guests were twisted and bent backwards.

One particular guest who was unusually quiet looked according to Carl (GHE Camera) slightly rigid almost as if he was fixed to the spot where he stood. As the arm movement progressed various people were also swayed and pushed and then suddenly the whole group was pulled in one direction. I was expecting us to stop when we got to the wall, but the spirit then carried on pulling us until we were forced to leave the room (still holding hands), along the corridor and into the adjoining room and pushed against the wall. It was a very strange experience. All the while the guest that felt the urge to move said he felt fine, but the tone of his voice did not suggest to the rest of us that he was, he seemed to take on the strictness of the spirit who were present, which by this time also included a Welshman who did not want to tell me his name. However once we were in this room I could see an outline of a spirit (as could a guest) but no detail, as we both started to describe him, we were both forced to the floor so that we could not see him anymore. After we were allowed to stand up the energy faded away and therefore I ended the séance as the spirit had obviously completed what they set out to do, however strange and odd it seemed to us.

The third session we all ventured into the Counterscarp Galleries as the staircase is not something you would walk frequently especially since this particular evening was a very warm one, although in the tunnels it is always cold.

One group of guests stayed with me, the other went off with Marc (GHE team) and tried some EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiments. The guests wanted to do another séance so I asked that the spirit join us, almost immediately Captain Daniel Bedford joined us (he is a frequent spirit energy in these tunnels) and started to move peoples arms, twisting them with other and generally moving as many people as he could, which turned out to be everyone accept one person. Various signs were “drawn” on people from a typical iconic smiley face symbol and various circles although at one point several male guests had their chins pushed upwards, similar to how an officer in the army would stand (chin up). There were also some strange punching sensations (which is a frequent occurrence with this spirit) and tapping and touching of people’s heads.

Since the guest that didn’t get moved wanted to feel something we walked to the other end of the tunnel after everyone had left (just 3 remained) and I was able to convince the spirit to move this guest and affect him without anyone touching him. Gently the spirit lifted his left arm and manipulated his right arm and when I asked for the spirit to push him, he got pushed, slowly at first and then more forcefully. At the end of this session I asked the guest to ask the spirit a question and I also asked a question, this was recorded as part of my EVP experiment. You can hear the results at

http://youtu.be/5IdTpm0c-rE
http://youtu.be/DitZkViSf24

All four of us then stood opposite each other but without holding hands and as I asked the spirit to push people, one at a time everyone started to feel a swaying motion, several times the guests had to take a step forwards or backwards to stop themselves falling over. During this we all heard some strange noises, the noises I heard sounded like heavy breathing just behind me, whilst other heard a drone sound.

After this guests spent the rest of the night venturing off on their own and spending time table tilting in the Caponier, which from what I witnessed was very impressive, the table moved violently and the guests were hardly touching it and in some guests each had just one finger on the table.

Once again a very active and interesting night and many guests felt or heard real paranormal activity.

Fort Borstal ghost hunt – Paranormal Investigators – 6-7-2013

Friday, August 9th, 2013

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 6th July 2013
Rochester, Kent

Paranormal Investiagtors Report (Jo & Marc)

Session 1: We began our first session with a short seance involving 6 people, myself included. Some firm arm movement was felt between some of the guests, and spirit was using our arms to “push” the male guests. After about 10 minutes we had built up some energy, the group began using the Ouija table to see if Spirit would communicate. From the outset the glass did not move, so we then asked spirit to move the table. The table began to move quite strongly, but seemed to be moving towards one guest in particular consistently. I asked Julie (the guest) to change places with another around the table to see if it would remain the same. The table continued to move towards Julie even in her new position. Marc and I both found this extremely interesting. Marc then suggested trying the Ouija again. This time the glass began to move immediately, and began by spelling out the name STRIVEN. Julie seemed quite moved by this, so we asked her if it meant something to her. It is the surname of a patient she cared for at work who had been moved to another facility and had been to rumoured to have passed away. The glass then spelt out PETER, which she confirmed as his christian name and also his age, 78. Neither Marc or myself were on the table. This concluded this session.

Session 2: This session we had a total of 7 in the group, including Marc and myself. We began again with a short seance, which again saw some arm movement and pushing of the male guests. The group then had a short table tipping session with the table moving between the men in the group, Simon and Jason. After a while we all moved to the tunnel area of the capponiere, where we all began to feel slightly uneasy, particularly the women. Whilst we were standing there, we heard a noise as if something was thrown, and went on to find 2 bullets on the ground which had not been there before. We asked for spirit to throw something else, which we heard in the other room but were unable to find the object. It sounded like a stone. A little while later Charlotte (guest) was standing in the corner of the tunnel and said she felt like she needed to move her arm up and point, as if in arm movement in a seance. We asked her to go with it, and sure enough her arm began to move and finger pointed out, trembling severely. She was pointing at Marc. Just out of curiosity, I asked spirit if they could move her legs as well and to take her to where he was standing. Marc and I were then astounded, she began to move very slowly and in a very unnatural like manor towards Marc. For want of a better description, it was almost like a Zombie walk! She was completely lucid the entire time, but when she reached the wall, Charlotte became extremely emotional, so we removed her from the room and ended the session. This footage can be seen at http://youtu.be/b6FYM23wgJM

Session 3: Again we had seven in the group total. As usual we started with a short seance and had very slight arm movement. We then went on to try ouija and table tipping, both unsuccessfully. The group moved to the tunnel, where we asked one of the female guests (Nickie), to stand in the same corner where Charlotte had been stood in the previous group. She began to feel very uneasy, and was not communicating with us clearly, so we removed her from the room as she requested. We moved back into the main room and asked spirit to throw something again. On demand a stone was thrown, and when found it was still warm as if it had come from outside, it was a very warm evening (approximately 24 degrees Celsius), and freezing in the capponiere (approximately 12-14 degrees Celsius). Another object was thrown, which we unable to find. This concluded this session.

All in all, we feel there was a very angry male presence that really did not like female visitors!     Additional information:   The Ovilus III was used on all vigils with varying degrees of “intelligence” in response to some of the questions we were posing. Planchette contact was sought but to no avail. Additionally, a trigger object, a brass miniature dinner gong, was positioned in the room and spirit was requested to force the disc to move. Regrettably nothing materialised in this experiment. Numerous full spectrum photographs were taken the results of which still need to be reviewed by our experts. High pitched “noises” resembling screaming or perhaps whistling were noted during the evening and remain unexplained. Several instances of “footsteps” were also apparent though this remains inconclusive. Marc heard several low, monotone groans within the capponniere during the evening which remain unidentified and unexplained.

The breakout sessions, towards the end of the evening, proved interesting but with nothing major or tangible to report. Initial, and very brief, review of the various EVP samples has proved interesting and the data can be further analysed and considered during the forthcoming tech night when the team are all present. Female voices are evident on the EVP data which is a surprising development as I do not recall experiencing similar contact or activity such as this before at this venue?

Conclusion: an excellent night overall with some astounding and newly encountered phenomena, least of all the apparent “possession” of the young lady in the first vigil group. Kurt, the ever present “contact” made an appearance (not literally I might add) during the several and various Ouija sessions and on this occasion, portrayed himself as a very low level contact exhibiting no aggression as in previous engagements.

Fort Borstal ghost hunt – 6-7-2013

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 6th July 2013
Rochester, Kent

Fort Borstal is always an interesting ghost hunt for us as something that has never happened before usually happens to the guests however no one could have predicted what happened on this particular evening. As a team with a combined experience of over 100 years none of us have ever seen or witnessed anything that even comes close to what one particular guest experienced in the Caponier, however that will be covered in the second report by the paranormal investigators. However that doesn’t mean nothing of interest happened to the people with me on the contrary I too had a very unusual experience in the Counterscarp galleries…

The first group to the Counterscarp galleries we formed a séance circle in one of my favourite parts, it is actually the furthest room, not particularly big but usually the séance held here have a common theme, which I am very aware of and hence why I bring people to this area every time.

We were joined by a familiar spirit energy to this area; Captain Daniel Bedford who is a strict man however he also likes to make guests aware of his presence and he started by moving various peoples arms, sometimes on command other times of his own free will. He was also able to physically push some people. Using some people arms and hands he was able to rub the chins of some of the male guests, this is a common occurrence. He also tapped one particular guest three times on his head, very similar to the phrase “is anybody home”. Daniel was also able to slow punch two of the guests under the chin, as if to tell them to stand up straight. I and another guest were also pulled down so that our hands were touching the floor and our hands were dragged on the floor. Many guests heard the sound of “chatter” as well as breathing and whispering sounds, this is anomalous because the dry moat ground level outside the counterscarp galleries is about 15 feet below where we were stood inside and there are no animals wild or domestic in the moat. Several guests also saw something pass the windows since it was still light outside and other guests saw lights at the other end of the tunnel, no explanation could be established for either occurrence.

At the end of this séance I conducted an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiment. Unfortunately there was quite a lot of noise from the guests shuffling which when the files were analysed by our experts drowned out any spirit response because the echo in these tunnels is a lot longer than in a normal room. However the only good EVP can be heard at:-

http://youtu.be/UvrtQKX1Prw

The second group to the Counterscarp galleries I formed a séance circle in exactly the same room, hopeful that the same spirit energy would be present for the guests to experience his energy. Unfortunately he wasn’t but there was another male spirit called Bernard or Biffa to his friends present. He was from a time when the Fort was being built, about 1880, as he was a prisoner. Once I asked Biffa to move the guests in some way, lots of people arms were simultaneously moved and everyone felt a physical force push them down towards the floor. One particular guest (Chris) was pushed down with such a reasonable force that he couldn’t get up and whilst he thought it was safer to stay on the floor the spirit had other ideas. Biffa then managed to push and pull us all across the floor until Chris was pushed against a wall. I have no idea how we managed to be moved in this way and I have never seen a spirit manage to do this to people before. Once we were all against the wall Biffa then decided to twist people and bend them into what looked like impossible positions, yet we all managed to stay linked and the séance ended with us rubbing Chris’ chin which looked like a thinking man’s pose.

Just as we were about to end the séance everyone heard the sound of a whistle request that I had made earlier, they were two very distinct repeats of a whistle that I asked spirit to repeat about 20 minutes earlier.

The third group to the Counterscarps were not eager for more spiritual movement as they were the group that had the amazing activity in the Caponier, however during the séance in exactly the same room both Biffa and Captain Daniel were present and they continued moving people’s arms and pushing them. Once again we all heard the now familiar “chatter” and whisper sounds, although we still have no idea where these noises could have come from. Some odd noises were also heard coming from the moat, one of these sounded like a man groaning or cursing, however having walked the whole of the dry moat (in daylight) I know that this is very unlikely that anyone would have been in the moat as it is more or less impossible to get out especially at night where the hazards cannot be seen.

Using a spirit box (a device that scans the FM radio band in reverse at 100ms) we heard the words “Ann” “Hi” and eventually “Go”. None of the questions asked had any intelligible answer.

Moving to the other end of the Counterscarp gallery there were two Second World War soldiers present, one was Welsh and the other from Lincolnshire, neither did very much to affect the guests although Jason felt a poke in his stomach.

This was an exceptionally active ghost hunt with all guests getting some truly exciting paranormal evidence that they could not explain but nevertheless enjoyed.

The video of what happened that amazed us can be seen at http://youtu.be/b6FYM23wgJM although the report from this group is published under the Paranormal Investigators section.

Fort Borstal ghost hunt – 4-5-2013

Thursday, June 27th, 2013

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 4th May 2013
Rochester, Kent

We are finding that every time we investigate Fort Borstal, the activity that is experienced by the guests is getting greater and more frequent and certain rooms have certain experiences which are consistent.

This ghost hunt was one of those nights. I, as usual, had the Counterscarp Galleries as my zone for the night, as this is the most physically demanding with 200+ steps to descend and ascend.

However the walk is definitely worth it, as these counterscarp galleries are rather active and being that this area is underground it is always rather dark!

All three groups witnessed the same spirits and activity

The spirits that were present were; Captain Daniel Bedford, a soldier. Tony, a rather mean looking prisoner from when the Fort was built and his accomplice “Biffa” or Bernard, both these prisoners were in their early 30s and both were of a muscular build.

The activity of all groups in a seance usually started with some gentle arm movement and then pushing and pulling people in all manner of directions, usually in a surprising way that the guest had no idea what would be experienced next, sometimes I had an inkling what would happen to a particular person, but I too was surprised by what most of the guests experienced. This ranged from the gentle arm movement, to people be swayed and rocked, to people being pulling to the floor by their arms and in some cases dragged across the floor, those that ending up on the floor had difficulty and in some cases it was impossible to get up off the floor. Many guests reported that it felt like someone was sitting on them. There were also lots of instances of people being pushed against the walls; this was unusual because it looked very much like an execution.

Although not all the activity was extreme physical behaviour many times throughout the night, with different groups, several people arms and hands were pulled to the floor and “draw” a smiley face in the dust. Which many guests felt this was an odd thing to do.

This was an exceptionally active night, with every guest getting some form of physical paranormal activity that amazed them.

Fort Borstal (leader 2) – 4-5-2013

Thursday, June 6th, 2013

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 4th May 2013
Rochester, Kent

Group One:

First session was in the Caponier

As we entered the caponier the guest in the group commented on how spooky the area was with the remains of the smoke from earlier in the day. We started of with handing out K2 and Ghost Pro’s and CH explained how each bit of kit worked and what the guests need to look out for.

After the kit briefing, Jo started the session with a seance circle to build the energy. Almost straight away guest start to feel movement in the hands and arms. As the seance continued the movement became more pronounced and a number of guest arms started to move up and backwards. Carl was moving around the circle taking MEL Meter readers and he noticed that there was some high spikes and temp spikes around a couple of the male guests (Spikes of 8.7 and 10.8 mgs and at one point the temp dropped my a couple of degrees.) As the seance continued the arm movement carried on getting stronger and at one stage the same male guest was pushed to the floor. Jo asked the guest if he needed assistance and he refused.  He was asked  if he wanted to be be put in the center  of the  circle which he eventually agreed to, Carl assisted with this. helped this guest up and noticed that when he touched the guesst back, his back was very hot and the guest also commented on this. Shortly after this Carl started to fell sick and had to leave  the area and before he could get out of the caponier he was sick on the steps.

Group Two:

We again headed to the caponier and after the kit was handed out and briefed on how it worked. We started the session with a seance circle to build the energy. As in the first session the guests started to have hand and arm movement after Jo asked for spirit to step forward and this movement became more pronounced and one of the male guest commented on how strange he was feeling. Carl took some MEL Meter readers behind the guest and was amazed at the high spikes he got (48.7mgs and over 30c temp, this temp was strange as the room baseline readings was 9c).  Jo and the rest of the group where pushed to the  ground in front of one male guest, as if in worship! At mid way thought this session Jo had said how she was feeling the energy changing and feeling more foreboding. We ended the session with SB7 session with out anything to report.

Group Three:

We again headed to the steps to the Caponier and started the session in the same manor as the previous groups, with a seance circle and again we started to get hand and arm movement straight away and again one of the male guest was pushed to the floor and one of the female guests comment how the atmosphere had taken on a more apprehensive feeling in the room. During the seance Jo felt like she was “punched in the solar plexus”, and was very uncomfortable for a period of time. One  of the guests commented that there was a male energy around us that didn’t like Jo. Jo knows this, as she had on previous events experienced the same energy and it was good to see a guest picking up on this and it confirms her previous experiences in the room. At this stage we dropped hands as the guest wanted to try an table tipping session. The whole of the group sit in circle every Friday night so they are spirituality aware. Shortly after starting the session the table started to move quickly around the room and the guest struggled to keep up with it. This table tipping session was one of the most interesting and active session we have ever witnessed and as the session ended, Jo and Carl and a number of guest witness the table moving on it own.

Fort Borstal (leader 3) – 4-5-2013

Thursday, June 6th, 2013

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 4th May 2013
Rochester, Kent

My area was the Old Officers Mess for the night, and of we went with my first group.  We started with Ghost Pro’s and two different spirit energies stepped forward to communicate with us.  The guests wanted to try the Ouija table which gave us some slight movement on the glass, and trying table tipping had some slight movement/vibrations.  However many different noises were heard: taps on wall and metal, the sound of chains rattling (although on checking after the owner had been outside moving the gate), however one noise sounded like one of the chairs in the corridor moving across the floor.

Returning with my second group, as we all stood in the corridor we all heard a female sigh.  Checking with each other none of us had made this sound.  And whilst we were standing in one of the rooms, Marc (team) & friend joined us and said he could smell perfume as he walked down the corridor, but as he entered the room where we all were, he couldn’t smell it no more.  The guests wanted to try the Ouija table straight away, and as they all put their fingers on the glass it started moving immediately.  We established the spirit that was with us was Sergeant Tony, age 48, passed in 1868.  We asked if there were other spirits with him, he said yes – 8.  Then the table started rocking gently, so we took this as Tony’s request to do some table tipping.  On removing the glass, the table started rocking more, giving the guests some amazing proof of what the spirits are capable of doing.  After plenty of table movement, it suddenly stopped and we all felt Tony had left us, however the table started moving again, and the guests thought a female spirit had joined us.  By asking the spirit to tip the table one way for “yes” and another way for “no”, we found out the spirit was female, and not happy.  Her name was Daisy, and was abused by men.  She needed our help passing over.  We then did a séance circle and helped her pass to the light.  The guests then wanted to try table tipping again, and the table started moving again.  Again with the table tipping yes and no, we found out we had a male spirit, called Simon in his 20’s.  One of the guests who is sensitive sensed he was very fit, athletic and muscular, tall, protective towards women, and a nice man.  He was able to move the table in many different ways, often spinning on one leg, and at one time sending Chris (guest) to the floor.

I returned with my third group and after a short wander around with kit, the guests wanted to do the Ouija table.  The glass started moving and we established the spirit with us was French, age 36 from 1945.  He had a sweetheart and two children, who he still visits in France now.  When we asked his name he gave us a mixture of letters and numbers, which when asked he confirmed was his rank number.  Whilst I was standing watching the guests on the table, I looked to my left and jumped when I saw the spirit.  Approximately 6’ tall, wearing a dark grey uniform.  When we asked spirit if I had just seen him, and the details he answered yes.  We then removed the glass and asked spirit to move the table.  The table kept rocking gently, and when we asked spirit to lift the table up on one side, the metal legs would creak and then the table would lift.  This happened a few times, and always when we asked.

At this point the controlled sessions were almost finished and the guests had the opportunity to choose where to go.  They chose to try the Ouija board to see if any spirits were still there.  The glass started moving and started spelling “KILL” continuously.  At this point we knew we need to stop, so after putting a stronger protection around us all, we asked the spirit to move the glass to the middle of the table and stop, of which he did and we removed our fingers from the glass.  We returned to base with the intention of asking Steve (medium) to come back with us, however his guide had just informed him of the spirit that was with us.  His name was Micky, was a bad energy, had a huge sword and wanted to recreate something; we weren’t brave enough to ask what that was.  Steve’s guide went off to send the spirit on his way….

A great night !!!

Fort Borstal ghost hunt – 29-3-2013

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 29th March 2013
Rochester, Kent

Every time we return to Fort Borstal the event gets more interesting, more stuff happens to more people, this time around was no different, although this time the activity that happened wasn’t pleasant.

I usually hold my sessions in the counterscarp galleries because just getting there is a physical challenge in itself, 232 steps to be precise, but to me it is a really interesting area where paranormal occurrences are normal.

The first session there was a male spirit present called Capt Daniel Bedford, he is a spirit who I have often seen in the counterscarp galleries. He is a tall slim built First World War soldier who carries a crop and undoubtedly would have used this as part of his command style. The resulting séance started with people feeling a tingling sensation in their hands and arms, which progressed to their arms actually moving (which is what I asked for amongst other phenomena). After the majority of people felt their arms move, Daniel became braver with his actions and many people saw their own hands being rubbed across the chins of other guests and themselves. These actions also increased along with the phenomena of being pushed and pulled backwards which to some guests was unnerving as they had no idea when this would affect them. Many times various different people’s arms would fly across to hit Ross (guest) in the face, but fortunately every time he was able to duck and dive out of the way as I could feel or know when a lunge was coming. Cold spots were also felt by the guests, which in this particular fort is unusual because all the exterior holes are sealed and the weather outside has no impact on the conditions felt inside.

There was also another male spirit energy present, his name was David and he was a convict, he approached us with caution and did not interact although he did speak to me briefly. He was a Cockney and of a stocky build.

The second session that I undertook in the counterscarp galleries more or less started how the first finished. The same spirit energies were present and the séance started with arm movements almost immediately interspersed with pushing and pulling sensations, twisting and turning people into odd positions and dragging them downwards on to the floor. Once again many people felt cold spots and breezes which are unusual. Many people arms were moved in such a way that it looked like they were trying to be strangled by other people’s arms. Other guests were moved and pushed towards the wall. Several attempts were made to lunge at people, although once again I could feel it coming 1 or 2 seconds before the action took place and could warn whichever guest the action was intended for. However there was a moment when my attention was gravitated towards another young male spirit who should not have been there and needed help. He was a young (17 years old) male who passed away during a relatively recent (1997) motorcycle crash on a road not far from the Fort and whilst I was engaged with him and trying to help him a lunge of people’s arms hit one of my team members in the face (Kym) and then the second lunge which was more like a punch hit a guest in the shoulder.

During the séance Matt (guest) saw light orbs and another guest felt very aggressive, as I have met this guest on several of our ghost hunts I knew that this was not in his nature and I called an immediate end to the séance. The guest that felt aggressive asked me to come over to him as he “wasn’t feeling right” and I gave him some emergency healing to take away the aggression. As everyone was recovering from the active séance we could all hear a strange mumbling noise which included the sound of whistles and whispering. The whispering sound seem to come from further along the tunnel in the direction of the other counterscarp gallery.

When I asked whether the guests would like to walk down to those galleries some guests didn’t want to venture down there on their own! So we all went down to that area, although nothing was seen or heard once we arrived.

After these sessions the guests were allowed to wander freely, some but not many wanted to go back to the counterscarps and I joined a group in the Officer’s Mess area. Various spirits were encountered in this area, the majority looked to be female Nurses or Second World War clerks. Carl (GHE team member) who was sitting in a chair noticed that the chair was swaying and moving which he found odd although his instruments detected high levels of EMF and huge temperature fluctuations which coincided with the chair moving.

This was a very enjoyable ghost hunt where the majority of guests had a very unusual night and many paranormal occurrences. This was one of our more memorable ghost hunts at this location and everybody thoroughly enjoyed the experience, even those who were pushed to the floor or lunged at.

Several EVP’s (Electronic voice phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiments were undertaken by the team but we have not had any confirmation from our experts of actual ghost voices.
