Timeball Tower ghost hunt – 9-3-2013

The Timeball Museum ghost hunt 9th March 2013
Deal, Kent

We have held several ghost hunts at The Timeball and every time something odd or unusual has happened, on this occasion it was no different. The venue is a small venue so we don’t hold fixed groups, instead we allow all guests to wander freely and I join them frequently to see if the active spirit will do some physical to them.

The first session on the upper floor a Fisherman called Frank was present, he was aged in his 40s and whilst holding a séance he was able to gently move some people’s arms. There was also a French girl present, her name was Anne Marie and she was in her 20s & wearing a blue & white dress. She had very noticeable long brunette hair. Several of the guests reported some strange cold spots.

The second session we recorded some EVP (Electronic voice phenomena a.k.a. ghost voices) experiments, however nothing notable was heard during the analysis. Whilst asking out to spirit to make some noise we all heard some gently tapping on the floor and on the table. This tapping could not be another person since the whole group were in this room at the time. We were joined by a male spirit called Daniel who was aged in his early 50s. Daniel was a very camp character and generally rather playful and sarcastic in his responses. Daniel was quite a tall slim man but had a “professor” looking hairstyle which reminded me of typical 1970s hair styles.

After this session we tried to do some scrying in one of the middle floor rooms. An older gent who was approximately in his 80s with a small face was trying to superimpose his features over a guest, but unfortunately the guest could not see it. There was also a female energy present called Maddie and was dressed in typical 1950s attire and she wore a yellow & red flower summer dress, but once again the same guest could not see any change.

The fourth session we tried some table tilting, well actually the female members of the team and guests tried table tilting with little response. There were three spirit energies present; Elisa, aged in her mid-50s who was a working girl, Jenny, a young 15 year old watched over by her father (who I couldn’t see clearly) and Daniel (the character we met in an earlier session) however the spirit Daniel suggested to me that if the men were on the table he would move it, so three of us placed our hands on the table. I was not expecting much because I don’t have a lot of luck when it comes to table movements and generally it doesn’t work for me. However to my surprise the table gently glided across the floorboards making no noise in an anti-clockwise direction and then abruptly rocked and moved in a more determined motion, all without making a sound. When asking whether the table could be moved in the other direction (clockwise) the table only rocked. After we finished with the table as no more movements were felt several of the men reported being touched in strange places, namely all below the waist, which was very likely of Daniel as he was that way inclined!

Using the Ovilus (a device that converts EMF pulses into words) several words were heard by everybody although there were no “stand out” moments. We tried some glass movements on a table and once again this only worked for the men twisting violently and the majority of the time the glass travelled two thirds over the edge of the table. Many shapes and numbers were “drawn” on command plus some other random movements.

The final session was another EVP session in one of the quieter rooms. There were several responses to the guests questions, however only one was clearly audible and that can be heard at

http://youtu.be/X4uGeP9qN7w

Once again a very enjoyable ghost hunt which had many memorable moments for some. We will be returning to this venue later in the year.

Fort Borstal ghost hunt – 1-3-2013

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 1st March 2013
Rochester, Kent

Once again the team were just as excited as the guests to return to Fort Borstal for the first of our visits to this magnificent fort in March, it was also the first of four Forts for the month of March.

This was our third visit this year and one thing that we have started to notice is that activity here happens to people in small groups of four or five people, any more than that and the activity is lessened.

As usual my area for the night was the counterscarp galleries since the majority of the team don’t like the staircase (200+ steps)

The first group we started in the left hand side of the galleries and almost immediately there were high levels of KII activity as well as some electronic communication. Various spirits were present including a couple of sergeants from The Second World War, a lady and a child.

Some guests felt touches on their legs and there was a strange breeze in the tunnels which was very unusual because there are no holes or gaps to the outside and once the door is closed (which it was) there should be no airflow within the complex.

Many guests and I also heard strange mumbling sounds and many guests were extremely jumpy in the dark, so much so that they didn’t want to do a séance, as that would have meant standing in the dark.

The second group to this area we started a séance almost immediately as I could see that the spirit were eager to show the guests what they could do. The spirit was called Captain Daniel, he looked to be a First World War soldier but he didn’t actually tell me.

Initially this started with lots of arm movement which then slowly progressed onto people hands being pushed into other people and poking them in the stomach. From this point as the spirit got more used to moving people he started to push people forwards and pull them backwards. Darren (guest) who was standing to my left felt that he was being held in place, as if someone was stood behind him, stopping him from moving. Darren felt this as well and kept looking behind him during the séance.

At the end of this session I held an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiment. There were many responses but the experts (independent Sound Engineers) and I couldn’t agree on the words being spoken, some of this was due to noise of the guests shuffling their feet or putting their hands in their pockets during the recording. The best one from this session can be heard at:-

http://youtu.be/HDePzen8ZF0

After this experiment I let the guests wander throughout all the galleries with some of our electronic equipment. High levels of EMF energy (Electromagnetic Fields) were picked up on our KII meters as well as some levels of electronic communication.

The third group to the counterscarp galleries had the most activity, as we went straight into a séance and the same spirit (Captain Daniel) was present and eager to demonstrate his presence to the guests. Arm movement started immediately and progressed around the circle until just about everyone had their arms moved and then Daniel moved onto pushing guests forwards and pulling them back as well as swaying them from side to side. Some guests were pulled by their hands to the ground. When asking for certain people to be moved (pushed or pulled) this usually happened on command until the majority of guests had been manipulated in some way.

At the end of this session I held another EVP experiment, once again there were lots of responses but there was too much background noise (from people) that hampered the technical analysis, however the best ones can be heard at:-

http://youtu.be/DMDCz0vxbpU

http://youtu.be/doino0rTRKA

Once again the guests were free to wander throughout the rest of galleries.

The rest of the night the guests were allowed to wander freely around the Fort to visit areas or activities they enjoyed the first time around with our equipment and to hold their own ghost hunt or do a solo vigil.

Once again the guests thoroughly enjoyed their ghost hunt with us and many had some very unusual paranormal experiences.

Pilgrims Way Woods ghost hunt – 22-2-2013

Pilgrims Way Woods ghost hunt 22nd February 2013
nr Maidstone, Kent

This was the third ghost hunt that we have undertaken in the snow and although it was quite heavy whilst waiting at the meet point, by the time we had driven to the start of the walk uphill the snow had eased off a little. The wind however was still biting cold. The walk which is all uphill however warmed everyone up.

On entering the woods I handed out some of the electronic kit and told everyone what to expect, some of the guests bravely wondered off.

There were lots of instances of communication via our electronic devices, many different spirits, some young, some old. Some from a long time ago and some from recent times, as they had stated that they were killed in road accidents.

Although virtually no KII EMF activity was seen on any of the KII metres.

Some guests thought they could see shadows in the trees; this is something which occurs frequently at this location.

Using the Spirit box (a device that scans the FM radio stations at 100ms in reverse) a few names were clearly heard, mainly mine but also some of the guest’s names.

After letting the guests wander around with the kit I decided the best way for them to experience paranormal activity is to hold a séance so that they could feel spirit energy move them in some way. We were joined by Christopher, aged in his early 20s, from the 1860s who looked like a farmer as he had very broad shoulders and was of a muscular build, although he had a small round (baby) face and short brown hair.

Christopher was easily able to move my arms and the two people either side of me. Hannah and I had our arms pulled to the ground twice during the séance. Hannah & Charlotte also had their hands moved, but this was gentler than it was with me.

At the end of the séance I conducted an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiment and whilst there were several answers to the guests questions, not all of them could be easily understood, the best ones can be heard at:-

http://youtu.be/oLfhmUUFlWw

http://youtu.be/rMOdt2ihTXI

http://youtu.be/pa6YHFs0CKk

http://youtu.be/fr9zA1c9hxw

http://youtu.be/2-wA0tgbqiM

Once again a good ghost hunt where the majority of people were able to experience some paranormal behaviour and the snow didn’t interfere with the ghost hunt, just made it cold for us.

Theatre Royal ghost hunt – 19-1-2013

Wednesday, February 6th, 2013

Theatre Royal ghost hunt 19th January 2013
Margate, Kent

It is not often that active theatres are available for ghost hunts because of their schedule of productions. So when this theatre became available we jumped at the chance. Due to the nature of a theatre we did not intend to do what we usually do at a ghost hunt. Instead of different groups being in any particular area for any length of time, we just let the guests hold their own ghost hunt in whatever area they wished. We then would join them at various intervals to assist their ghost hunt. This approach worked well because there is no way that we could have conducted different sessions because noise travels throughout the theatre.

We gave all guests some of our equipment so that they could venture off on their own.

Whilst I was in the theatre talking to guests I became aware of a male spirit energy, his name was Edward and his wearing typical Victorian theatre attire; Top hat and tails. He was 72 years old and told me that he was waiting for a performance from Margaret Stevenson. (Our researchers have yet to find any actress with this name). Carl (Ghost Hunt Events Team member) was sitting in this area and he was able to detect Edward with a MEL meter & KII meters. The guests that were in this area watched as Edward managed to affect both the MEL & KII meter.

I then went off to find other guests, some were backstage and waiting to go to the Fly Floor, this is an area above the stage where the control of the backdrops occurs.

Whilst in this area I felt severe pains in my chest, which I could imagine a heart attack would feel like. Several of the guests also felt a tightening of the chest but nothing painful, although they did feel some strange cold spots. As soon as I left this area the pain subsided.

After catching up with some more guests below the stage, they too wanted to go to the Fly Floor, so having just recovered from that session I returned hoping not to feel the same pain. Fortunately I didn’t get the same sensations. A male spirit energy in his early 20s was now present, he seemed to be from the 1960s and when we held our hands out, we could feel the warmth of his energy and many guests reported a tingling sensation in their hands. There was also an unhappy male spirit energy present and this spirit made one of the male guests cry. The same guest also felt both hot spots and some extremely cold blasts of air around his face. Whilst asking for spirit to repeat my knocks on a wooden beam, we heard a strange tapping noise back, although the noises sounded like someone tapping on concrete.

I suggested that since the majority of the guests were backstage that we hold a séance to try to get those energies to interact with us. A Scottish spirit energy joined us and a very loud and outspoken male energy, both in their 20s. After a while many guests’ arms were raised, mostly on command and the spirit energies then went on to push people and sway them. There were also lots of occasions when the spirit energies were using peoples arms to stroke shoulders and heads of other guests.

At the end of the séance I conducted an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiment. There were several responses although the majority of them we unclear, however the clearest can be heard at:-

http://youtu.be/KQTx067XrOc
http://youtu.be/Rx98_nfdBOU
http://youtu.be/3mZ8L45LE7s
http://youtu.be/z_arK5rnbKw

Back in the theatre I joined a few guests sitting quietly in the upper circle and turned on my spirit box (a device that scans the FM frequencies at 100ms in reverse) and asked the spirits that I could sense; a little girl of about 9 years old eating an ice cream called Dorothy and a strict looking women from the 1950s era waiting for someone to return from the bar to speak to us via this device. We all heard “Hi”, “Hello” and “Steve” then when I asked how many of us were sitting down we all heard “Not Sure” and other various words that didn’t make sense. As we were sitting here we became aware that the door on the opposite side of the theatre was opening and closing as if someone had walked through it. (Other team members had reported this happening when they were in the area) Since we were the only people in the circles (other guests were backstage or on the ground floor) we tried to emulate the door swings and we could not. There was no breeze to speak of and when we opened the door we couldn’t get it to react in the way we had previously seen.

Whilst standing here I was aware of another male spirit standing near to Carl and a guest on the ground floor. Both could feel a coldness as they neared to the spirit, which was in front of a radiator (which was on) and a tingling sensation. Carl could also see several spikes of EMF energy on his MEL meter.

Many guests photographed strange light anomalies in the theatre, some also saw them with their own eyes. Bob (from Surrey Paranormal, a guest) reported the following:-

11.30pm: it quietened down and I managed to sit by myself and see if I could sense anything. While on the top floor (balcony), I saw a couple of shadows move across the seats beside me – nobody else was on the same floor with me and I could find no explanation for the shadows.

12.00am: I moved down to the middle floor (circle) and was sitting in the seats at one side of the auditorium. After about 10 minutes of sitting quietly, I saw some orange lights over the …stage area. They were not distinct, more a shimmer. I thought it might be from the emergency lighting but when I looked at all the emergency lighting units, they were all giving out a steady light so were not the cause, nor could I find any other light source that might have caused the phenomena.

12.30am: I went down to the ground floor and stood, leaning against the stage, looking out into the auditorium. I was hoping I might see the spirit of the former theatre manager who is supposed to come into the auditorium through the back doors, but no such luck. I did, however, get the sensation of someone or something touching my hair!

Another guest (Penny) heard her named be called out, but didn’t take any notice at the time as she thought it was her sister calling her. However at the time her sister was with me, firstly below the stage and then on the Fly Floor both of which are backstage, Penny was in the main theatre.

Many guests also reported feeling odd and strange when initialling entering the Royal Box, although they all reported that these feelings dissipated very quickly.

Theatre Royal

An unusual investigation just because of the lack of our usual controlled sessions, but nevertheless an active ghost hunt, which didn’t become apparent until all the recordings were analysed. We have shadows and other oddities recorded from our video footage as well as numerous audio recordings that are still being analysed.

Bicknor Woods ghost hunt – 18-1-2013

Wednesday, February 6th, 2013

Bicknor Woods 18th January 2013
Bicknor, Kent

This was quite interesting just getting into the woods, since the first snow of the year had fallen the night before and had now turned to ice, so instead of walking, we slid down the hill onto the footpath.

Once in the woods there was a strange quietness, just the sound of a few birds taking flight that we disturbed whilst walking on the path. There was also some light snowfall, but nothing that would hinder or stop the ghost hunt.

Our first location I gave the majority of the guests some KII meters and a ghost communicator, the levels of KII were extremely high although this came in waves. Electronic communication was also high as a young male energy joined us, although he would not tell us his age, although to me he seemed to be in his late teens.

Various strange noises we heard in the woods, especially the sound of someone approaching as we could hear snapping twigs, as if someone was walking towards us, but considering our eyes had adjusted to the dark we could see if anyone was approaching.

Some guests took photos and one photo that should have been of a tree and a fence post had another vertical line in the photo which looked like another tree, however the object didn’t go all the way to the ground, whether this was snow is uncertain as a flash from a camera fires at 1/60th of a second, which would have meant that the object was travelling in excess of 12 feet per second!

At the second location a little further along the path another male energy made himself know to me. He was called Chris and was approximately 20 years old. Once again there were lots of high KII spike and some communication via the equipment.

The third location I started to use my Sprit Box (a device that scans the FM radio frequencies at 100ms in reverse). After asking that the spirit say one of our names or tell us the day of the week we heard “back” and “have it” but no names, unfortunately there was a lot of interference which I can only assume was related to the atmospheric low pressure. However many people reported seeing various shadows and  we all heard quite a lot of strange noises, some sounded like something heavy being dropped. Also some strange mists were seen and photographed.

At the fourth location which was back on the main path, we diverted to look at a tree that could have been easily used to hang people, as it had a branch at just about the right height. During the séance we were joined by Chris (the spirit from earlier) and an older gentleman in his 50s. Both these spirits were able to move the guests arms and push and pull some of the guests. Some people felt a swaying sensation (which is common for these woods) and a twisting sensation. Also during the séance we heard a lot of heavy sounds, similar to branches falling to the ground, but given there was no wind I cannot see any reason for branches to suddenly drop off the trees all around us.

At the end of the séance I conducted an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiment. There were several clear responses, which can be heard at:-

Fort Borstal ghost hunt – 12-1-2013

Thursday, January 24th, 2013

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 12th January 2013

Rochester, Kent

As with any of the Forts that we investigate, we always look forward to each event as paranormal activity usually happens in a surprising manner and since Fort Borstal is relatively new to us (our first event was October 2012) we are still looking for the “gems” of the Fort.

As usual I took the area that few of my team wanted to go to, mainly due to the wonderful [sic] staircase, all 200 steps of it!

The first group started in the left-hand counterscarp gallery and we were joined by a prisoner who was in his early 20s, six foot tall and had a very stocky build. This spirit who didn’t give his name was however very happy to talk to the guests via our electronic equipment, although he told me that he was at the Fort in 1885, which meant that it is likely that he was one of the prisoners who built the Fort. He also answered questions posed by the guests and one of the questions was whether he was stuck here, to which he answered “Yes”. I asked if he wanted to leave and needed help to do so, but he did not confirm, in fact he seemed to be undecided on this.

During the séance this spirit energy was able to move some of the guests arms and also gently push the guests. The arm movements however were limited to just one half of the circle. There was also a female spirit energy present although she was watching us and didn’t want to talk to anyone.

Throughout the whole session there were high levels of EMF (Electromagnetic Fields) as shown on our KII meters and high level of electronic communication. Many guests also felt cold spots and drafts, even though this is a sealed space with the only access to the outside from the entrance that we had walked down and once the door is closed no sounds or air movement should affect us.

The second group to the same area felt the presence of the same prisoner energy and another male spirit who also didn’t want to give his name. Once again during the séance there was some minor arm movement and several guests including me felt items of clothing being touched or moved. One guest said that she felt a “proper” poke in her back.

Due to the fact that the level of activity was low, the group spilt up with half of the guests venturing down to the other end which is also another counterscarp gallery which looks out over the other side of the dry moat. They held a séance here as well and also had some light arm movement, but one guest felt some touches by spirit on his arm which scared him and the séance circle was broken.

After these two controlled sessions, like the majority of our ghost hunts, we then let the guests roam and go to whichever area they would like to do their own ghost hunting. Many of the guests opted for The Officer’s Mess area, as this area was not used during the controlled sessions.

Four guests however asked me if I would join them back in the counterscarp galleries as they wanted to get a similar level of activity they experienced the first time. On enetering the area for the third time I noticed that the atmosphere felt different, a good different. After the guests wandered around the right-hand side gallery and made their way to the left-hand, I set up my laser grid in one of the tunnels and although nothing interesting was seen, it did allow me to take some interesting photos. I then joined the group and suggested that we hold a séance as I could see spirit energies wanting to “play”.

As soon as we started the séance a male spirit energy called David joined us, he was a high ranking Officer in the British Army from the Second World War era and he had 3 pips on his shoulder, which I have since found out means that he was a Captain. He was in his 50s and about 5’8” in height. He sported a full beard which was “Salt & Pepper” in colour and he wore round rimmed spectacles. David was very polite but also very stern, but when I asked whether he would move the guests he immediately said to be “Fine” and then everyone felt their arms being moved along with lots of swaying and pushing, followed by lots of twisting sensations and people being pushed into other people.

Scott (guest) was also able to ask questions in his head and use us as pendulums for yes and no answers, all of which were answered correctly according to Scott.

At the end of this session I held an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiment and played it back immediately as I thought I heard some answers to the questions posed by guests, however the biggest surprise was the question that I asked, everyone could hear the answer when the recording was playing, without any enhancement, which is quite rare.

The EVP can be heard at http://youtu.be/RpVS3t_x6LE

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the ghost hunt with many people getting their own paranormal experiences, many guests experienced the most activity when they were in small groups of just 4-5 people.

Fort Horsted – 8-12-2012

Wednesday, January 16th, 2013

FORT HORSTED 8th December 2012

Group B

Our first group of guests were very nervous, this being their first ghost hunt.  We started with a séance circle to help calm everyone’s nerves – it helped a little.  Marc was sensing spirit behind him, and odd noises were heard, one being a wing fluttering noise several times.  We checked with Paul the Manager and he confirmed it could have been a bat (although a bat in flight seldom makes a sound).  We then tried the ouija board and had some glass movement.  Guests were getting cold breezes on their faces, and when everyone was touching the glass or writing planchette it felt very warm around their hands.  On the Ovilus we asked spirit to give their name and we heard “Steve Birkett” – “February” – “Date of Birth” – “Gemma” this was a guests name.  Throughout we kept hearing noises in the corridor, and at one time a guest and Marc came running back into the room after hearing a loud noise – this turned out to be one of the tenants in a nearby unit revving his car very loudly to let us know he was leaving.

Group C

We started with a séance circle but nothing was happening so we tried the ouija board.  Almost immediately one of the guests scarf was moved (vertically, from her abdomen area, upwards, with no one touching the scarf or in close proximity), which was seen by others, and felt by the guest.  Again just small movement with the glass.  Karen (guest) and myself used the dowsing rods – and to our amazement we had a cross for yes and an open for no shown.  We established we had the spirit of a young girl called Emily (a spirit previously known to us on other vigils) with us, and she would move the rods to exactly where we asked.  On the Ovilus Marc heard the name “Hetty” which was personal to him.  Also during this session everyone kept hearing a dog barking – it is alleged a black dog haunts the tunnels.

Group A

We started with the ouija board but had no glass movement, however Damian (guest) and myself heard a male groan between us, and at that point Marc & guests heard a high pitched female scream in the corridor.  We then all went into the opposite room to try a séance circle, except Marc who whilst alone in the room heard a male groan next to him.  During the séance guests experienced swaying, with arm movement starting with Damian first.  Danielle (guest) and myself were moved next, then Rob (guest) who was also being twisted.  We then decided to stop and try table tipping as the guests had had success with this during the previous session in the hanging room.  Immediately we had the table lift up towards Linda in response to showing us a “yes”.  With encouragement from us we were able to see the table move in many different ways when asked.  This was filmed so hopefully there will be some footage to view. Additionally, Marc captured a mist like anomaly, as well as orbs, passing in front of the video camera lense.  Other team members sought to debunk this claim, but circumstances prevailing at the time, and actual camera positioning, proximity of others, etc almost, definitely discounts their claims that it was merely breath.  Footage available for scrutiny.

Free Session

I had three guests that wanted to return to the Hanging Room where they had table tipping earlier, but wanted to try the ouija board first.  We had spirit present giving his name as “Rob” age “33” and passed in “1867”.  He also confirmed he was the British Soldier that was with these guests earlier moving the table, but not the spirit present in Room 10.  We then stopped with the ouija board and tried table tipping again.  This was a little slow to start, but started with tapping under the table.  Then with encouragement from us, the table started rocking very quickly.  We then established “yes/no” with the table tipping, and was able to confirm this was Rob with us.  We were then able to experience some amazing table movement, with the table turning rapidly and sliding across the floor too.  Spinning in one direction and when asked to change direction the table would respond.  We then wanted to establish where the spirit was standing so with myself pointing all round the room, the table tipped up for yes just to the left of the stairs.  I then remembered seeing the spirit of a British Soldier in that same place on a previous night, and when asked if that was him, he tipped the table to confirm “yes”.

Marc’s Free Session

EVP exercises carried out with individual guests whilst others engaged in the Ouija table, but quickly abandoned this idea as they felt extremely uncomfortable without the presence of a team member in the room.  Data still to be reviewed and analysed.

Once again an amazing night at Fort Horsted – we all absolutely love this venue and can’t wait to return.

Nothe Fort Ghost Hunt – 24-11-2012

Tuesday, December 18th, 2012

Nothe Fort ghost hunt 24th November 2012
Weymouth, Dorset

This was the first ghost hunt for Ghost Hunt Events at this location and we certainly got some excellent evidence.

The weather however on this particular evening wasn’t so pleasant, high winds being the main concern and some rain showers, although by the time we started we were just left with the high winds. For those that don’t know, this particular fort is high on the hill overlooking Weymouth harbours, so walking on the ramparts was extremely gusty.

Fortunately this fort is separated into distinct areas with doors between each section so the entire group could be in the tunnels and we could be sure that noise from one group would not disturb other groups.

I had chosen a particular area to spend the night, which included the supposedly haunted whistling corridor and all the rooms associated in this area were magazine rooms, where ammunition would have been stored, before being hoisted up to the gun emplacements on the ramparts.

The first group we started in a room where a hanging mannequin adorned the room, which nicely set the scene and being the first ghost hunt at this location I let my guests wander from room to room with some of our equipment, until I could sense a particular area where spirit activity was higher. There were brief moments of communication via our electronic equipment and in the resulting séance there were also brief moments of paranormal activity.

Whilst wandering in some of the corridors we could hear a strange rustling noise, which was odd because this is a museum and there is no rubbish or in fact anything we could attribute for this noise. Also within the same part of the building odd whistling and wind noises were heard. This was strange because whilst it was windy outside there were no openings to the outside from within this tunnel and when going through the doors (which were closed) at either end of the tunnel no-one could hear the wind from outside.

Unfortunately two of the guests had turned up in an overly jolly drunken state and whilst we thought that they would sober up being in this environment, they didn’t and thus at the end of the session the group that they were in left the Fort.

The second group I took into one of the magazine rooms, which to everyone present looked like a dull room, as it was just a whitewashed room. However as I was leaving the area with the first group I noticed a spirit energy in this room and had promised (myself) to go back to this room.

The spirit energy was called Mark, aged in his late 20s or early 30s and approximately 5’10” in height and of a slim build. He had a skinny thin looking face but wasn’t wearing anything that I could identify the period.

I immediately started a séance with the group and asked Mark to lift our arms or push people. My arms were the first to be lifted (which is quite usual) but then one by one every guests arm (with the exception of one guest) was being lifted and guests were able to ask (in their heads) which way they wanted their arms to be moved and Mark happily obliged. Mark also made a point of rubbing peoples chins with our arms, which is not dissimilar to a thinking or pondering gesture. I then asked for Mark to start to push people and once again he obliged, however this was more like swaying than pushing and the one guest that didn’t have his arms moved, wanted to feel something. I then moved around the séance circle and stood next to the guest as I was determined that everyone would feel something. After a few attempts (unsuccessfully) of trying to move our arms, Mark moved on to the pushing and this guest was pushed forwards and pulled backwards, much to his surprise. After this everyone was being pushed, pulled and swayed. Some guests were even pushed into other guests which was very amusing to everyone present.

At the end of the séance I asked all the guests to think of a question to ask Mark, the more personal the question the greater likelihood of there being an answer and these were recorded as part of our EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiment.

There were quite a few responses to the questions, some were clearer than others and the best ones can be heard at:-

The third group I took to the same area as the second in the hope that Mark would be able to manipulate these guests in much the same way. Once again Mark was able to move some of the guests arms and push and pull them, but for whatever reason it wasn’t as good as what the second group had experienced. This is likely due to the fact that the third group was bigger group.

However during the séance there was much greater communication activity on our electronic equipment.

After we had held three controlled sessions the rest of the night we allowed our guests free reign of the entire fort, leaving them to go wherever they wanted and let them use our equipment. Many of the guests used this time to go to the Caponier (which is out of bounds to the public during normal opening hours), the Barbican and the ramparts (which by this time of the night wasn’t so windy).

Whilst I was on the ramparts with some guests I was describing some of the spirit energies that I could see and trying to get those energies to make themselves known to the guests. Some guests felt the energies, some guests including myself heard the sound of footsteps behind us and as we turned around expecting to see someone, we realised no one physical was there.

At one particular time I had just entered the Caponier to escort some guests to the Barbican and they had just experienced some paranormal activity (they had seen something). I was then able to describe what I could see which was a male spirit called Charles, dressed in soldiers attire from 17th Century. As I pointed out where he stood, the guests present said that was exactly where they had just seen a shadow and what alarmed them in the first place. As some guests thought they saw a face.

This was a very enjoyable and active ghost hunt. There will be reports from the two other groups, but the highlight of one of the first group sessions is that whilst in one of the Gun rooms a guest had asked for footprints, when they actually meant footsteps. However whilst they were watching a bare footprint, approximately size 7 appeared in front of them. The picture below shows what they saw.

Pluckley Woods ghost hunt – 23-11-2012

Thursday, December 6th, 2012

Pluckley Woods ghost hunt 23rd November 2012

Pluckley, Kent

This particular evening was a crisp 2 degrees Celsius with a clear sky and some moonlight, which although looked atmospheric made the woods a lot lighter than when there is no moon, as the moonlight makes it seem much more open than it is. However with the moon, there wasn’t any need for a torch as the pathways could easily be seen.

I started in my usual spot and after a short while a male spirit energy approached us, he was 33 years old and from the 1890s and gave me the impression that he was a farmer as he wore green coloured trousers and a check shirt but I found it odd that he wasn’t wearing a hat, as in that period farmers would have worn hats.

After some brief KII activity and communication via our electronic equipment I started a séance to give the guests some physical evidence of the spirit energy present. Whilst the farmer spirit energy was present, another male energy came forward to touch and move the guests as part of the séance. His name was Michael and he had dark and hair and a stocky build.

Michael was able to gently move some of the guests arms and push one or two of the guests as well as using our hands to stroke the faces and hair of some of the guests, which was a strange sensation for all those concerned.

A female spirit energy was also present, although she took a while to approach us and as I was telling the guests that she was approaching, one of the guests commented that they thought that they could see a shadow on the path of a person approaching us.

During the séance many guests commented that they could see lights behind me, one guest described the lights as being similar to shooting stars but much smaller and nearer to the ground.

At the end of the séance I did an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiment.

There were several responses to the question asked but even under extensive analysis the recordings could not be enhanced that much and it took a lot longer to figure out the words being spoken by the spirit. The best can be heard at:-

http://youtu.be/YqBQUmFSJ0Y
http://youtu.be/5ZKtMF9HbrE
http://youtu.be/R1kt4bWaJSs

We would recommend listening to these several times to actually hear the words spoken.

The second location I set up the laser grid and pointed it along the path, some guests commented that they could see shadows within this grid, although I couldn’t because I was seeing the spirit energies.

Various spirit energies came and went, which the guests were able to detect on our KII meters and there was some communication via the gadgets.

There were also some strange noises heard further along the path and behind us, many of which sounded like footfalls of people.

Some guests ventured further along the path to investigate a light that they could see and the shadows in the grid.

At this point I started using our Spirit Box (a device that scans the FM radio waves in reverse at 100ms). First several names were heard, none of them belonging to anyone present, then we all heard “Hi” and “Hello”.

I asked how many guests were present and we all heard a very clear “5” then one of the guests who were investigating further along the pathway returned. I then asked the same question and we all heard a very clear “6” I also asked how many were further along the path and once again we all heard a very clear “3”. All of these answers were correct as there were 9 of us in total.

Once again a very successful ghost hunt with some good evidence, both physical and audible experienced by the guests.

Fort Horsted ghost hunt – 17-11-2012

Fort Horsted ghost hunt 17th November 2012
Chatham, Kent

Ghost Hunt Events as a team always enjoy going to Fort Horsted, as every time we go there something different, amazing or unbelievable happens during the ghost hunt which leaves our guests speechless. The level of activity that we have encountered at this Fort is surprising although we look forward to every event as if it were our first time there.

My first session was in a location the furthest from the other group and although we had sporadic communication via our electronic equipment, I decided that it would be better to hold a séance and ask the spirit present to interact with the guests.

Just after we started a male spirit called Michael stood in the doorway, several guests reported that they too saw a shadow in the doorway. Michael was of West African descent in his late 20s and appeared to be from the 1960s. He also told me that he was a carpenter who would have worked at the Fort at some point, he didn’t give the specifics.

Michael was able to move some of the guests arms but the majority of the time we were all hearing mumblings and whisperings from outside the room, although spirit did copy some of my whistles, which were heard by the guests. Also a lot of loud bangs were heard, although given the nature of the tunnels and that sound travels throughout these tunnels, those bangs could have been anything, although not the other group as they were too far away and not in the same tunnel complex. The whisperings and female voices on the other hand were not originating from the tunnels, but from within the room.

After a while we moved into another tunnel to see if guests felt anything strange, which is often the case however on this occasion none of the guests felt anything, but then we were a large group and the best activity here happens to small groups of people. There was however another male energy called Peter present who was able to answer some questions via our electronic equipment. Also more whistles were heard in this tunnel.

My second session was in exactly the same area, as each group just swapped for the second of our controlled sessions. Once again Michael joined us although no-one reported any movements. However many guests this time around (including me) smelt paint or white spirit which was strange as there would never be anyone painting within these tunnels. Some other guests reported smelling liquorice.

Once again we all heard female voices, mumblings and whispers although not on the same level as the previous group and after moving into the other tunnel, even less happened.

The third session was held in casement 26, which involves walking down an interesting and steep staircase below the dry moat. Whilst I was in this area with the majority of the guests I didn’t feel or sense any spiritual activity, although some guests did have some communication via our electronic equipment with a child energy.

After this final session we allowed our guests to go back to any particular area to experience any activity, although the majority of people wanted to experience the same rooms as each other, apart from three guests who asked me if we could go somewhere else and try to get some good evidence as they hadn’t experienced much all evening. So I took them to an area in which other people were unlikely to interrupt us and held a séance to encourage spirit to join us.

This was probably one of the best sessions I have had at the Fort. A male energy called Sergeant Mitchell joined us, he was 27 years old and Scottish and told me that in the Second World War he would train people at the Fort, but he was then sent to Normandy in France where he died from shrapnel wounds. He instantly liked Phil (guest) and myself because of our Celtic links (Phil is Welsh & I am Cornish) and he started moving all of the guests arms, first gently, then with more purpose as the guests got used to the strange feeling. He was also able to push and pull us usually surprising us as he did so. The guests then asked several questions (some out loud and some in their heads) which Mitchell answered by swaying some people and moving our arms to signify yes and no.

During this session, two other guests found us and whilst we were unable to let them fully join in, as we were being manipulated (by being pushed and pulled) they stood and watched. Becky who was standing nearest to us felt strange tingling pins and needle sensations as Mitchell told me that he was trying to touch her. Audrey (guest) who was part of the séance group felt her bum being touched or caressed. At the end of the séance I asked all the guests to think of a personal question to ask Mitchell as part of our EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiment. Many of the questions had some form of response although we have been unable to hear the exact words but three responses (out of six) had audible answers, two of which are very clear. These can be heard at

Once again a very enjoyable ghost hunt, although a little slow to start with, but as the night progressed more activity was experienced by the guests, especially when the two large groups split down into smaller groups. The Ouija board sessions were also very active (this will be covered in another team members report).

The ghost hunt events team were all present as we were shooting a promotional video before the ghost hunt.
