Explosion Museum – 6th February 2016 – Kym

We started the evening by having a tour around the Explosion Museum with the VIP’s, being led into some interesting areas that are not seen by the general public.  I chose to work in a huge building that would have been used, and still was being used, for storage and boat building/renovation.  The weather was very wet and windy at the start of the evening, with the door being continuously blown open and closed, but the skies became clear and still later.

We started with half the group on the Ouija, and the remainder of the group on the table tipping, but with only slight movement on both all seven guests tried the table tipping together.  However, before this we were hearing whistles when asking out for them, and one guest felt his chair move whilst sitting in it.  The table started moving immediately, lifting up at the side, twisting and spinning randomly.  We were also experiencing a coldness moving around us, and some felt they were being touched.  We did hear what sounded like the glass being moved across the Ouija table, but on checking the glass had not moved, or if it had, it had been moved back.

With my second group we had a little movement on the Ouija, with the glass twisting, but no communication.  The group on the table had some slight movement, they tried the writing planchette, but the table tried moving again.  So I brought all the guests together and we all tried the table tipping.  We had some gentle rocking, and were hearing noises around us, a mumble or murmur in one area, one guest saw a shadow in a different area at the same time were heard a rustle/movement there too.  We all tried the Ouija, the glass moved to the numbers 4 and 5, was this his age?  The glass started moving to yes but then stopped.

With my last group we had a little movement on the Ouija but no communication.  We then all tried the table tipping and it did start rocking very gently.  I encouraged the guests to interact with the spirit, and the more they did this, the more the table moved.  We then tried the writing planchette, had no movement, but the table was moving again, so we switched back to that.  And again with the guests asking, especially Janet, the table moved and spun as they asked.

With the controlled sessions over, and an hour left of the night, I joined three guests, in the Admin Building.  We went to the shower/toilet area in the back left of the building and started with the Ouija board on the table we use for table tipping.  The planchette started moving immediately, and went to “Hello”.  We then asked for spirit to spell his first name and got “OFUK” – interesting!  The planchette went to “goodbye”, but we asked spirit to stay with us for some table tipping.  With our fingertips lightly on the table, the table started moving.  We managed to get the table to lift towards Mark for yes, and opposite for no, and was able to ask spirit some questions.  He was a male spirit from WW2 who had murdered someone here.  Mark suddenly felt a coldness behind him and heard a footstep next to him, which made him jump.  We had also heard a footstep earlier in a different place.  We then put the Ouija board back on the table without the planchette, and with us touching the board asked spirit to move it, to our surprise the Ouija board started moving on the table.  We then asked it to rotate, which it did.  With only a short time left, we went back to the table tipping, and again the table started lifting, spinning and started to walk out the room.  We did also have a spirit box on for some of the time and were hearing corresponding words to the answers on the board i.e. hello and yes.

A fabulous end to the night at a terrific venue!

Old Beneficiary School – 5th December 2015 – Louise

Equipment: Table Tipping/ Ouija Board and Dowsing Rods

I started all the sessions on the Ouija board. Not everyone wanted to participate in this activity but all were more than happy to watch. The guests sat round the table and I asked spirit to step forward and come and communicate with us by moving the glass. Very little happened and the glass didn’t move despite all the encouragement to spirit to come and tell us their story. I told the guests to keep encouraging as I went to join two other guests that had started to work on the table tipping. Initially this was also very slow to start, but then the table began to gently rock from side to side. At this point a really cold sensation passed right through us as we heard a loud bang come from the wall right beside us. Jason (team) called out to spirit to make the again if that was them to make the noise again and straight away the noise was heard again but louder. With More encouragement from the guests on the table the table slid itself across the floor to the Ouija table and stopped.  As there was no movement from the glass the remaining guests decided to join us on the table. Shuffling noises and loud footsteps were heard coming from the on the stage and got us all a bit worried at this point. On investigation nothing was found but the footsteps carried on throughout the rest of the session. As there was now more energy on the table it started to rock back and fourth tipped on to one leg and spin us around. One of the guests asked spirit if they could walk the table to the door before we leave. To out surprise the table very gently started to walk towards the door. All encouraging spirit saying how well they were doing the table then walked very quickly and stopped very abruptly when it reached the door. Activity stopped at this point except that we thought we heard laughter of small children as we left the room.

Marwell Hall – 24th October 2015 (Kym)

Equipment: Ouija, Table Tipping, Glass Work, Writing Planchette
With the first group we had some slight movement with the table rocking gently.  In the second group we had a little communication with spirit on the Ouija – young girls with the initial F R or the first two letters of her name.  However, in the third group we had much more interaction on the Ouija: Vera aged 78 and lived here.  Then Anna aged 82 who was friends with Vera.  They lived here together, and passed away together.  Anna had 3 children but one died.  Guests were also asking the spirit to spell their names, which to their surprise spirit did, spelling Cath and Donna.  However, I wanted to try an experiment and asked the guests if they minded being blindfolded.  With their consent we asked spirit to spell their names again, to which the two names were spelt correctly, and with ease.  I also asked spirit to spell another guests’ name, of which Amy was spelt, who was also on the table.  Spirit also stated the ages of Amy & Cath correctly.  We then tried some table tipping, and the table started moving quite easily.  Rocking, spinning then walking out the room, and tried going up a few of the stairs.  We then asked the spirit to walk the table back into the library which it did.  One of the many questions asked was do you have a favourite book, and the spirit, whose name was Michael was able to direct us to his favourite book on the shelf about horses.

Fort Horsted – 17th October 2015 (Kym)

Equipment: Dowsing Rods, Pendulums
Group A – We started with a séance circle, and invited spirit to join us.  Many could feel the energy change around them when the spirits stepped close.  The guest to my right (Peter), his left arm started moving up, but very gently, and almost immediately went straight back down.  Guests were seeing lights flashing on the wall and people.  We moved around to see if others could see the same, and they were.  We were also seeing shadows around us too.  Sean (filming) was watching his torch on a shelf, and it kept disappearing from view.  He showed us all through the camera which we saw too.  Some were being pushed and pulled, and feeling cold spots around us too.  With not much more movement we tried the pendulums and rods.  We had a male spirit with us, he worked here and was military.  He said there were other spirits here with us.  With another team member saying that they had tried chair tipping in this room successfully before, we had a go.  Initially we divided the guests on two chairs.  I stood with one group touching a chair and immediately started feeling very dizzy.  I swapped with Dave (guest) and he felt the same.  But Peter & Leanne didn’t feel it when standing there.  The other chair was moving so we all switched to that one.  With all lightly touching the chair, it started moving.  Slowly it started lifting up.  It tried to spin around but fell down.  Tried again, but just lifted up.  Some tried pushing the chair back down and could feel resistance.

Group B – Started with the séance circle, and Colin (guest) to my right was getting pushed, pulled and twisted.  Cold spots were being felt by some around the circle.  We were also hearing noises/footsteps near us too.  With no more movement we did some dowsing and all had quite a lot of communication with spirit.  We were talking to a male spirit connected to the fort.  We tried some chair tipping but had no movement, so decided to go down the whistling tunnel nearby.  However just on entering we heard a whistle between us, thinking initially it was one of us whistling ourselves, but with clarification from everyone that they had not done it, we were quite happy to have heard it.

Group C – Starting with the séance circle many were being gently rocked to and fro.  Then some guests started having their arms moved up and down.  Asking them to ask spirit in their head to move their arms where they chose, they were amazed when spirit responded to their request every time.  Myself and guest to my left were both feeling a heavy weight on our shoulders, and started to be pushed down.  Others were being pushed down too.  Also a lot of laughter was expressed around the circle.  Some felt like they were being touched, and felt cold spots too.  We then tried some communication with spirit using the rods & pendulums, and spoke to male and female spirits.  We then went to the whistling tunnel, and again heard a whistle between us whilst entering.
In the free session I joined some guests in a new area, a long tunnel above Area 10.  Then I joined Kerry & guests in room 35 where they had been experiencing some fantastic Ouija & table tipping.  We then finished the night with some Ouija in area 10.
A fantastic night – fabulous guests – and an awesome venue!

Ragged School Museum – 24th October 2015 (Louise)

Session 1 – Group B
I started the session by asking the group what activity they would like to participate in first. Many of the group didn’t want to take part in the Ouija so I stared them on the table tipping first. Initially the table only started by gently rocking slowly from side to side. I kept encouraging spirit to try harder and move the table in another way for us. Eventually the table began to tip up on to its side, and with the guests also encouraging spirit the table spun round for us. At this point Miraj (guest) asked spirit if they could possibly walk the table into the other room, it promptly did so and took the table to an old school desk and kept rocking the table up against the desk.
It was decided then that we ask spirit through the table some questions. Saying to spirit to tip the table to right for a yes answer and left for a no answer, we asked whether the old school desk had played a significant part in their life. The table however just kept banging against the table.
Meanwhile Andy and Lewis (guests) had started on the Ouija. Movement was initially very slow to start, but at this point we all sensed the spirits of children around us. I and another guest joined the table and a spirit of a young boy came through stating that he was 6 years old. Still encouraging this spirit to communicate we sadly didn’t get anymore movement from the glass. Just as the session was about to finish, Andy’s that was sitting on the table turned itself on and the door with some force came open by itself scaring us all at the point.

Session 2 – Group C
Before the start of this session, I had taken a small plastic teddy bear up to the room to use as a trigger object because all guests in group B had sensed small children. I pointed out to the group the trigger object, and we asked spirit to see if they could move the teddy during our session.

As there were only five people in this group, it was decided that they all wanted to start the session on the table tipping. I pointed out the group the trigger object, and we asked spirit to see if they could move the teddy during our session. To the groups amazement the table started to move straight away. Encouragement from the whole group at this stage asking spirit to move the table in some way, it went up on to one left and held this position. We all kept encouraging spirit to move the table again or in some other way, and it was at this point Stacey (guest) broke down and started to cry uncontrollably saying she felt so emotional. After a while the table suddenly went up on to one leg and rotated clockwise, then tipped on to the other leg and rotated anti-clockwise.
The table then did the same thing as happened in the first session. It began walking towards the door and out into the other room and straight to the same old school desk and promptly stopped. Asking spirit again if this desk had meant something to them Naomi (guest) opened the desk and written in capital letters on the inside of the lid of the desk was the word yes. Well I guess this answered our question, and also from the first session. At this point Richard (guest) started to feel sick with pains in his side. I suggested he leave the table as he said he also started to feel really aggressive.

We all then moved on to the Ouija. Asking spirit to communicate with us through the glass, it stared spinning in big circle on the table just to build up the energy. A spirit came forward and told us she was a young girl by the name of Sarah.

The glass stopped at this point and to our amazement the table began to tip instead. This was a much bigger table and we could believe this was happening. Autumn (guest) said she heard footsteps moving amongst the desks. We called out to spirit to make the noise again, and this time we all heard it, like children running around the desks. Stacey (guest) then pointed out to us that the bear had moved. It had been turned to face the other way. Nobody in the group could have done this as we all stayed together during the session.

Session 3 – Group A
We started this session again on the table tipping. Initially the table didn’t move. However, with some encouragement from the group the table began to move gently and then stopped. At this point all the guests started to sway back and forth some experiencing pins and needles sensations in their arms. I asked spirit politely to take this feeling away and if possible to move the table in some way. The table again started to gently rock from side to side and then suddenly it tipped up on to one leg and start to spin around in a clockwise direction. To the guests surprise the table then began carrying out erratic movements that none of the guests could keep up with.
We the moved on to the Ouija with some guests watching as they didn’t want to participate and said they were more than happy to watch. We were joined by the spirit of a young girl named Sarah who I would assume was the same spirit as in the second session. She went on to tell us that she was seven years old and that she was scared of the man that was in the room with us. One of the guests asked if this spirit was a teacher to which she replied yes and that he used to treat her badly during school always telling her off.

Free session
During the free session Stacey and Naomi asked me if I would join them back on the Ouija board to see if they could get back in touch with Sarah. The glass began to move around the table but unfortunately we were unable to communicate with spirit. However during this period we heard what sounded like a child giggling and footsteps again. When we went to investigate the bear I had previously used as a trigger object had moved to the other side of the room on a different table. I know that no-one had been in that room since the last session and before leaving I checked the bear and it had remained in the same place as I had left it.

This was a very good venue to investigate and all the guests enjoyed the sessions. I hope in the future we do revisit the Ragged School Museum as I think it has a lot more secrets to be uncovered.

Charlton House – 10th October 2015 (Louise)

Equipment: Ouija / Table tipping / Writing Planchette

Session 1 – Group B
This is the area I decided to work in as it was felt to be the more active area in the building. We started our session with some table tipping. Initially it took a lot of effort to get any movement on the table, and then there was a gentle rocking motion for some time until eventually the table tipped up on one side and held this position. I kept encouraging spirit to move the table again or in some other way, but it just went back to a gentle rocking motion. After a while the table suddenly went up on to one leg and rotated anti- clockwise and stopped. Asking spirit to do this again, it did so this time clockwise.
During the Ouija session we had a spirit join us by the name of Tom. He was 4 years old and died in 1906. He told us that he was lost and looking for his parents, and there were 4 spirits in the room with us and he knew two of them. Tom then left us and there was another spirit moving the glass. We established this was the spirit of a young girl of 12 years old named Rebecca. She went on to tell us that she looked after Tom after his parents had passed away and that she was hung in 1906 for stealing bread to feed her and Tom. We then sensed that we were joined by a stronger energy. One of the guests asked if we were speaking to a male spirit to which he confirmed. He went on to tell us that he was 45 years old and that he had hung Rebecca and Tom for stealing.
Three of the guests (Fay, Gemma and Nicola) decided to use the writing planchette. Once the planchette started to move Fay asked the spirit if they could spell out their initials which to their amazement spirit did so. They then asked if the spirit would draw them a tree, and straight away spirit drew a tree.

Session 2 – Group C
In this session the table tipping was quiet and all through the session we only had gentle rocking. We all tried to encourage spirit but to no avail.
During the Ouija session, Rebecca came through again. She went on to tell us the same stories as the previous session only with the difference that she was born in 1906 not die. Her spirit came through really strong in this session. We asked her if she could spell out some of the names of the people around the table. She went on to spell out Kevin, Chris and Louise. Kevin and Chris (guests) were mother and son. We then asked Rebecca if she would like to communicate through the writing planchette and play a game to which she replied yes. The game consisted of a set of cards numbered 1-10. Setting the cards out face down, I asked Kevin to pull on forward but not look at it. Once the writing planchette began to move, we asked the spirit to write the number on the paper. The spirit drew the number 2. When we turned over the card we were all in shock as it said number 2. We tried this experiment another four times and spirit got two more right, drawing them out on the paper. I then asked the spirit to draw the animal that I was thinking of in my head (fish). The spirit went on to draw a perfect fish shape. Spirit then went on to draw random things. At the end of the session, when we looked at the paper, there was a perfect heart shape with the initial R in the corner. We assumed at this point that we had been communicating with Rebecca.

Session 3 – Group A
Again we started the session with table tipping. Movement to start was initially very slow with steady rocking from side to side. Encouraging spirit to move the table more or in another way, it went up on to one leg and gently spun round and then stopped. No more movement was experienced on the table despite encouragement from the guests.
During the Ouija session, to start to the glass never moved. With plenty of encouragement from the guests however, the glass began moving in a circle around the table very quickly first clockwise and then anti-clockwise. As the glass was moving around in a circle it was also spinning around under the guests fingers. Once the glass had centred we were joined by the spirit of a young 7 year old boy by the name of Richard. He went on to tell us that he was at the location in 1059 but unfortunately we couldn’t get the reason why or how he was connected to the land. One of the guests asked Richard to take the glass to where he was standing in the room. He took the glass to Sue (guest) and kept the glass at this point. I asked him if Sue reminded him of anybody and he spelt out mum. He went on to tell us that he was lost and trying to find her, but was in the company of two other spirits ‘Smith aged 9 and Eli aged 7’.

Very enjoyable evening, with lots of communications and footsteps and tapping noises also being heard

Fort Borstal with Roy Roberts – 20th June 2015 (Kym)

Before the guests arrived I took Trudi & Roy for a walk around the fort, showing them the different areas as they had not been here before.  We entered the Caponier first, and immediately they were picking up on children in this area, describing the term ‘powder monkey’s’.  Roy was also feeling there was more to this area underneath, vehicles being buried, and the owner confirmed this room was above the moat which in fact had old vehicles in it.  We then went to the Counterscarp Gallery and neither Roy or Trudi felt comfortable going down the stairs, not because of their steepness, but sensing the spirits down there didn’t want them near.  On entering the opposite Counterscarp, before we had even reached the top of the stairs I saw a sheep there.  Advising Trudi & Roy behind me to “step back there is a sheep”, they immediately thought I meant a ‘ghost sheep’.  Once they realised the sheep was alive and running towards them, they immediately moved back, but the laughter of that moment continued for the rest of the night!

With Trudi deciding she wanted to work in the first counterscarp, intrigued by the unwelcome spirits in that area, we took our first group down there.  Initially Sean (camera) took the guests right, as I wanted Trudi to feel the left area first on her own.  What was odd as we stood there, Trudi holding her torch switched on with the red light, a shadow passed in front of her torch beam.  Knowing neither of us had moved at this points, and Trudi’s hand was holding the torch away from the light end, we couldn’t explain why this happened.  Feeling excited that spirit were in this area wanting to work with us, and sensing the opposite end was not too active we started with a séance circle to ask the spirits to come closer.
During the circle we were all feeling coldness behind us as it moved around the circle.  Val to my right and I could feel an extreme coldness between us, with my right side and her left side only feeling cold.  Trudi sensed one of the spirits was a colonel, with the name Stephen Stark.
We started with some guests on the Ouija table but with no movement tried the pendulums, and was communicating with a builder aged 30.  On the table tipping it started rocking then lifted up high on one side.  It then spun round once, and with it still lifted up one side, all the guests tried pushing the table back down and could feel a lot of resistance.  Some of the other guests tried table tipping, and even with just two guests it continued to rock significantly.  The guests enjoyed communicating with the spirits, establishing a yes & no movement so they could ask questions.  Trudi and guests could sense a spirit in the tunnel, they could also hear noises and a whistle.  We continued with all guests on both tables doing table tipping, asking the spirits with us to move both tables at the same time, which they did.  Whilst I was asking spirit to do this I heard one heavy footstep behind me in the tunnel.  Trudi walked towards the spirit in the tunnel but she could sense him walking further away.  When we left the area, Sean & Trudi were last, and they could both feel the spirit behind them, almost like he was escorting us off.

With the second group we started a séance circle and could feel coldness around us again.  I and some guests started with the table tipping, had some slight movement, but decided to move to the end room, and the table started moving a little more.  However just before the table started moving a lot the camera battery suddenly died with more than 40 minutes remaining.  Unfortunately Sean didn’t bring a spare battery with him.  We continued with the table tipping, guests trying to push the table back down and feeling the resistance whilst doing so.  Trudi had taken the remaining guests into the opposite area and was holding a séance circle with them.  The spirit that was with her was a young boy called Will Ballard aged 12.  He had a strap across his body and filled musket guns with powder.  He was happy and well liked, got on well with everyone, and was with his uncle and brother.  He died when he was 32 but was showing himself to Trudi when he was 12.  We think this was because this was the age he was at the fort.  Trudi was asking him what he ate, he didn’t know what a sandwich was, but eat brown bread and chicken.  We then joined the other guests so everyone could try the table tipping.

With the last group, during the séance circle some of the guests had some movement ie. arms being moved up/down/forward & back.  Trudi could sense the spirit of a male called Grant, and then she could sense another male spirit in the corridor.  With the spirits wanting to work with us we started the ouija & table tipping.

With Trudi & guests on the ouija we had a man called George, possibly involved in hanging someone, he dealt with buried bodies, and had buried another man.  He may have a link to royalty, but although the glass was moving a lot, the spirit wouldn’t confirm the king or queen at the time.  Jenny (guest) was feeling sick, and had a taste of blood in her mouth, so I took her back to the base room.  I returned to the table tipping and had a lot of movement.  We asked spirit to show us a movement for yes & no, and were able to establish the following information:  the spirit was male, age 50, name was Edward but liked to be called Eddie.  He lived in a cottage in the woods nearby, with a stream.  He fished in the stream, and sold the fish.  He had a wife and three children, but had lost a child.  They grew vegetables to eat.  The spirit was standing behind Tim (guest) saying he reminded him of one of his sons.  The table started moving a lot, the other guests joined us but shortly after the spirit left us.

For the final session of the night, all the guests and team joined Roy in the Caponier for a Trance Session.  Whilst I didn’t fully go into a trance, it was quite odd feeling myself swaying a lot when Roy asked us to, but with my feet feeling rooted to the ground.  I did notice my colleague Sue opposite me looking like she was going to fall over, so went to her.  When she came round she said she had an elderly lady with her who had a crippled left hand.
An interesting night, very different from our normal events as we had joined with Roy Roberts and his team, but enjoyable nonetheless.

Landguard Fort ghost hunt – 13th June 2015

Landguard Fort ghost hunt 13th June 2015

Due to a smaller group of guests we kept everyone in one group and the team took turns to host different sessions. We started with a human pendulum sessions in the guardhouse and shower/boiler room. The session was split between two rooms because Sue (GHE team) wanted to use both rooms.

Spirit stepped forward in both areas and guests were able to communicate and get answers to their questions.

The second session was a tech and gadget session in the communications rooms. These rooms have in the past been very active. Once again our equipment lit up with spirit activity but this time the spirit needed to be ordered to do something. Considering the room; a communications room and plotting room where ship movements could be plotted it really isn’t surprising that the spirit needed to be told what to do, as this would have happened in life. There was a female spirit called Natalie present, she was aged in her late 20s and a Royal Navy clerk and gave the year that she would have been at the Fort as 1959.

Certain rooms were more active than others and the smaller radio rooms seemed to reveal the most results with one room in particular that guests found to be more active.

The third session was another double activity session with half the group using a Ouija board, the other half table tilting. It was a bit of a let down to start with as very little happened to either group when they were both in the same room. However we split up and moved a few rooms away from each other and I joined the table tilting group. There was a male spirit called Colin who was present and able to move the table although this was not massive amounts of movements, this was gentler. However as a team we have had table walked into and out of rooms, down staircases and around the narrow walkways of the fort, we can’t expect to have that sort of activity every time as different spirit are able to do different things. But we always hope that the spirit can move the table to start with, that in itself is probably a massive feat for the spirit.

The fourth session was a séance session in one of the older magazines rooms. This room I have used many a time as the spirit that seem to frequent this area are able to move people. Lots of people felt spirit move their arms, this was after a while on command and the spirit who was called Damien, a young 20 year old modern spirit, although he didn’t tell me the year, his clothing was from the 1980s period. Once Damien got used to moved certain people he was able to twist people up and tangle their arms, wobble the guests forwards and mostly backwards when they least expected to be moved. Both Will and Ben (guests) who were either side of me, were both pushed many times and they both had their arms moved. Damien also dragged mine and Will’s hand down to the floor and every time let us stand up a bit and then push or pull our hands back down to the floor. This was all very strange and something which I haven’t experienced before at this fort. Usually the spirit either push people to the floor and then let them stand back up but to be let half way up and then pushed down feels very odd. There was another male spirit in the room with us, but I could not see him nor would he tell me his name, but he was responsible for moved people opposite me, as those guests were moved in a different way.

From this room we moved through the tunnels around to another magazine room underneath the seaward side gun rooms as there is one room that we sometimes have activity in. We asked spirit to make a noise or tap or knock and after a short while we heard some noises. These sounded like water dripping onto something (it was raining at the time) but we could not see any water on the ceiling or on the floor. However when asked to make the same noise again we all heard a definite tap, this happened just two more times before we had to finish the session.

The guests then had a 45 minute free time session where they went off on their own or with different team members to do their own style ghost hunt in rooms that we didn’t use during the ghost hunt. Many guests headed towards the Caponier or to the upper gun rooms.

Red Lion Hotel – 18th April 2015 (Kym)

Red Lion Hotel ghost hunt 18th April 2015
Colchester, Essex

Area: Room’s 6 & 7
Equipment: Scrying, Ouija, Table Tipping, Writing Planchette, Glass Work

Group C – We started with the scrying, and people were seeing the face change in the mirror to an older lady.  However, several of the women, including myself, started suddenly feeling very strange.  The room felt very hot and oppressive, we had headaches, and were feeling dizzy and tingly all over.  You could feel the energy around us.  What made us most surprised about this was when we entered the room it was quite cool as the window had been open.  I had closed the window when we entered.  But after about 5 minutes the energy suddenly changed and we all felt normal again.  Another guest then sat in front of the mirror, and we were seeing and feeling the same spirit energy again, and almost suddenly like before the feelings changed back to normal.  I then split the group with 3 guests in room 7 doing Ouija, and the remaining 4 in room 6 doing the writing planchette.  Both groups had movement immediately.  On the Ouija it was a female spirit, spelt the word PEG but then someone sensed the name Margaret.  Asking if that was the spirit’s name, glass went to yes.  She was age 78, but unsure of the year, possibly 1988 or 1891, although wouldn’t confirm which was correct.  Asked where she lived, she spelt the word LIVE, when asked if lived here, confirmed yes.  Asked if she would do some table tipping – answered yes.  I went to check on the other groups, and they had heard us mention the name Margaret:  they had the letter M drawn, and asked if the spirit’s name was Margaret, had confirmed yes.  So they had been communicating with a Margaret too.  Perhaps the same spirit was communicating with both groups.  With all guests possibly talking to the same spirit, I thought it would be good to bring everyone together and we tried table tipping.  The table lifted up one side at the start, then we were hearing lots of taps on the table, asking spirit to copy our taps, we would hear them repeated back.

Group D – Started with scrying in room 6 again, and first someone was seeing what looked like a 12 year old boy, and felt very sad, the person in the mirror looked like she was crying.  Some people were being touched.  Then the image changed to an older man with dark hair and moustache, the face would suddenly disappear, and some saw evil eyes.  One guest saw a shadow in the room by the doorway.  Then tried the Ouija in room 7 but only slight movement. With the table tipping we had gentle rocking and taps on the table.  With the writing planchette, had some movement, but one guest saw a shadow behind me walk past the wardrobe?  In room 7 they tried some glass work and it moved a lot.  The spirit was a lady who had worked here at the hotel.  The guests then heard a cough coming from the bathroom, and as guests Steve & Terri looked towards the bathroom (the light was on in the bathroom, and you were able to see the light shining through the door at the top & bottom), they saw a dark shadow pass across the bottom of the door.  The glass stopped for a short while then another spirit joined them.  This was a male, again had worked here, was married, had worked with me before on a ghost hunt here.  Asking for him to draw his initial with the glass, it looked like a C or an S.  The glass then started moving continuously in a circle, and I asked guests to ask in their head for spirit to stop the glass and change direction.  The glass responded to all the female guests immediately, but not the male guest.

Group A – With the scrying this time nothing was seen in the mirror, so we all went to room 7.  Tried the Ouija but no movement.  Tried the table tipping, some slight rocking, but annoyingly every time I turned my torch off the table moved quickly.  With all the guests knowing each other, they felt confident it wasn’t any of them doing it.  I wanted to split the group as with smaller groups things sometimes happen, so three guests tried the writing planchette in room 6, whilst the remaining three stayed in room 7.  We tried with fingers touching the glass & table, and as we felt the table rocking we removed the glass.  However, as I took the glass off the table, the table lifted once, with the table tipping towards Stephen, to his surprise touching him.  Then when I was in room 6 we all heard noise next door, on checking the guests had heard a tap on the bathroom door, and a loud bang in the room.  On checking what it was, it was the folded Ouija table leaning against the wall, it had banged hard against the wall.  No-one had been near it.  I then brought all the group together again, and we tried table tipping, and had some gentle rocking.

Group B – With my last group we started with scrying, and were seeing a male spirit, with a rounder fuller face.  Facial hair and smaller eyes.  We tried the Ouija but had no movement.  With the table tipping, the table lifted once then slight rocking.  We tried the writing planchette but had no movement.  However with the glass work we had a male spirit come through.  He was not connected to the Red Lion or Colchester, but had just stopped by to see what we were doing.
Again a fun night at the Red Lion, with fantastic guests, all willing to try things, and with an open mind.

Ouija/Table tilting

Session 1 – Group B

The group were split so that half were on the Ouija and half doing table tilting.
With the first group, the glass took a very long time to move, but eventually it moved to the letters T and R. When asked if this was spirit’s initials, the glass then moved to Yes. Then the glass moved to numbers 2 and 3, and the glass confirmed that spirit’s age was 23 by once again moving to Yes. The group continued asking more questions to try and gain more information, but unfortunately there was no more movement on the glass after this.
The group on the other table had just slight rocking initially, then the table tilted up on one side. However, despite our best efforts to encourage spirit to move the table more or to spin it, unfortunately there wasn’t much more movement apart from gentle rocking and the occasional tilt.
We then swapped over and once again on the Ouija the glass didn’t move, but guests kept feeling coldness and touches on their arms. I also felt like I was touched on my left hand. One guest said they felt hands on their shoulders and another felt a push on their back.
When the other group tried the table tilting, they had movement straight away, with rocking and spinning, and at one point the table was spinning so fast that one of the guests fell onto the floor! He got back up to carry on and the table continued to spin and twist. When I asked spirit to walk the table across the room, it proceeded to do so, stopped halfway, and there was no more movement after that. During this session I felt a touch on my right cheek and also on my left leg below the knee.
On leaving the room a few of the guests explained feeling a static sensation all over which lasted for some time.

Session 2 – Group C

The guests said they would prefer to do glass work rather than Ouija, so we went and sat at another table in the room with just the glass on it, and tried to get spirit to come forward and move the glass. Unfortunately after trying for some time, the glass didn’t move so I suggested trying the writing planchette. Once again, despite our best efforts, there was still no movement. The guests then decided to try the Ouija, and after a while the glass started to move. We connected with a 12-year-old girl, and when we asked for a name the glass moved to the letters A,S, and K. We kept asking questions to try and get some more information, but the glass stopped moving, and it seemed the spirit had gone.
There was some very good table tilting experienced by everyone during this session. There was very gentle movement to start with, and it gradually picked up speed as the table continued to tilt and rock. It took a lot of encouragement to get the table to spin, as if spirit didn’t know how to do it. The table seemed to move fairly cautiously at first, with the movements gradually getting stronger, and eventually the table was spinning quite fast, to the amazement of the guests.

Session 3 – Group A

We tried table tilting first, and as soon as we placed our hands on it, the table started to move. Slowly at first, then it started rocking and spinning. It eventually started walking across the room. We decided to try and ask spirit some questions using the table, so we established our yes and no directions and discovered that we had a male spirit with us, who was in his seventies and used to be a Mayor.
The group then decided to try some glass work, and a male spirit came through who seemed to be connected to guest Steve Downs in some way. We asked spirit to draw his initial on the table with the glass and he drew a D. We soon found out his name was Daniel, in his thirties, had four children, and was Eastern European. He said he was connected to Steve on his grandfather’s side, but Steve couldn’t think where the connection could be, so would have to check on it with other members of his family.
