Hucking Estate – 8th July 2011
It has been several months since I walked around Hucking Estate in the daytime, however with a lot of these places it all looks rather different in the dark. The irony is that I had not planned on going to this venue, we had planned on Thurnham Castle but with the possibility of rain I decided it would be better coming to Hucking Estate because there would be some shelter from the rain. That proved to be a very wise decision as it rained almost all night, however this did not detract from what was an amazing ghost hunt.
Whilst holding a séance in one of the wooded areas a male energy by the name of Matias stepped forward. Aged in his early 20s approximately 5’10” in height with the starting of a beard and moustache and wearing a white granddad shirt and brown trousers. This energy looked to be a farmhand from 1870s – 1880s. Both Graham’s and my EMF were going absolutely nuts as if spirit were rushing to see what we were doing and then backing off. During the séance we all heard some random noises, at one time it sounded like footfalls or horses. (There were no large animals in this wood, nor in the adjacent fields). Various lights were also seen in the trees, usually behind me and at one stage everyone saw human shaped shadows in the immediate vicinity. Bearing in mind it was raining quite heavily, the likelihood was rather slim (as you could not walk through these woods without a torch or without making a lot of noise). At one point Debbie & Scott were extremely scared so much so the little séance circle now resembled a group of penguins (all huddled together).
I decided that after a short amount of time that we could drop hands, as it became apparent that the energy wasn’t going to give people any physical evidence and that everyone was rather anxious of the shadows and noises being seen & heard. It seemed the sensible option.
Scott placed a one pence piece and two, two pence pieces on a broken branch, as I called out to spirit to either remove them or replace them with different coins. I also picked up a large stick & threw it into the woods in the hope that spirit would throw it back. Whilst I was doing this Scott & Debbie were watching the coins. I had somehow managed to miss all the trees and could not quite believe this and was searching for my torch, Scott and Debbie both had just looked up (from the coins) for a moment and when they returned to look at the branch all the coins had gone, much to their amazement. However Scott & Laura found two of the coins, both were covered by the leaves on the ground, not really what you would expect if they had just fallen off. One of the two pence pieces could not be found at all.
It was still raining heavily and I wanted to get to a particular part of the wood which felt spooky when I first recced the area, however everyone in the group including me now had no idea which way we came unto the wood nor which way was the right direction, so I headed for what I thought was the right direction, which turned out to be the wrong one and although this wooded area is quite small compared to the whole Estate I was disorientated and lost. Needless to say we made our way around the woods until I came across a path I recognised by which time we were all somewhat soaked.
After walking around for about an hour Scott said he would like to go back to where he had left the coins, so I headed in that direction and this time the same area had a different feel to it. It was still raining but the atmosphere was not as scary as the first time and a male energy in his early 50s came to join us. He gave me the impression that he had passed over in the 1940s or 1950s and that he was a land owner. Since everyone wanted to use the dowsing rods and pendulums I began showing how to use them when I noticed this energy was near us. Graham twice thought he saw this energy whilst he was taking photos.
This energy came and stood right in front of Graham who was holding his K2 (EMF) metre and I asked the spirit to make the lights dance. Which he did with some amazing results. K2 metres have 5 lights (green, light green, yellow, orange & red). The red light is not supposed to come on before the orange for instance, they are supposed to come on in order, but this energy was able to make the green and yellow lights come on more or less randomly.
During this time I was aware that there seem to be mumbling in the woods, as if I was hearing part of a conversation, Debbie & Scott too heard this, which unnerved them.
Since everyone was now a little jumpy and after some frantic photo taking, I decided to conduct an EVP experiment, when this was played back at the time, we all thought we could hear a response after Debbie’s question, but after I have spent time trying to hear what it could be I am no further to understanding what the spirit response is. Everyone was now ready for a nice warm cup of coffee, so we decided to make our way out of the woods for the second time, but this too proved just as hard the second time around as I was once again disorientated and had no idea which way was the right way, basically everyone walked in different directions until the pathway was found. Whilst walking back across the open fields to the car park, both Debbie & Graham were feeling very anxious and had the feeling that they were being watched. This feeling only subsided when we were about 50 yards away from the cars.
Hucking Estate woods is a very strange place, one of the scariest locations in Kent, definitely more scary than Pluckley with a higher level of spirit energy. I cannot wait to return to this location when it isn’t raining.
