Fort Horsted ghost hunt 19th October 2013
Chatham, Kent

Fort Horsted is one of our favourite ghost hunting venues and paranormal activity usually happens to various people in the whole group, rarely does so much activity happen to everyone in the same room, but on this particular occasion everyone who entered one of the most interesting areas of the Fort, known at the Fort as area 26 had much the same activity, albeit with some variations but generally everyone had some form of physical paranormal activity that they either couldn’t explain or once it happened the guests wanted it to happen more frequently.

As always we split the whole group of people into smaller groups and after a short historical briefing and a health & safety talk, a quick coffee and or cigarette we head off in our respective groups to start the ghost hunt.

Within the area known as 26, which is a wonderful [sic] 180 steps down and 30 up into the counterscarp galleries I picked one of the rooms which we have had lots of activity before and started a séance circle. To me is the best way that I can demonstrate the active spirits energy in a physical way so that I can “prove” that the spirits are real.

The first group to this area were all quite chatty until I asked that spirit step forward and touch and move people and at first everyone fell silent, then as I noticed a spirit come towards us, he started to move my hands and then others in the group. The spirit was called Gerald Clarke, he was a Second World War soldier, a Private first class from some rifle regiment and he told me (later in the evening) that he trained to be a sniper. He was about 24 years old, 5’9” in height and of slight build. He was wearing his “Going out” uniform. This is a special uniform that would only be worn when the soldiers were out and about in a town or when they were not on duty or in active service. He also sported a pipe, but I forgot to mention this until Jason (GHE team & camera) and others started to smell sweet tobacco smells.

Gerald firstly moved people hands and arms and slowly became more confident and started to touch people’s heads and strangely ears, although the person that this happened to first didn’t like her ears being touched!

Many people in the group we asking (in their heads) that Gerald move their arms in a particular direction, although Gerald had his own ideas and rarely actually did what anyone asked until they asked in a polite way. Many people were also pulled down to the floor very quickly (by their hands and arms) and once on the floor Gerald continued to move them and dragged their hands across the floor to the other side of the circle.

As Gerald became more proficient at moving people there was one moment when everyone apart from one person was on the floor, mostly in a bit of a heap because some people had been dragged down on top of other people who were already on the floor.

During the whole session we all heard some odd and strange noises, some of those noises sounded like footsteps whilst other sounded like stones being thrown, (we have had stones thrown at people in this room before on previous ghost hunts) however we did not investigate the noises because we were usually on the floor or moving towards the floor when these noises occurred.

The Second group to this area started much the same way, people being silent but as soon as I saw Gerald, I explained to the guests what I could see people generally relaxed and once again gentle arm movement started but quickly turned into more meaningful movements. There was also another male spirit, Justin who I believe I have met before at the fort, although he didn’t do anything physical to the guests apart from stand near or behind them to make people feel uncomfortable.

After moving various people within this group, Gerald quickly moved on to swaying and gently pushing people with some guests commenting that they felt like they were on a boat or had just got off a boat.

Some guests felt a physical touch, usually on their backs or in the ribs and considering we were all holding hands as part of the séance it could not have been anyone physical.

This time though as people asked (in their heads) for their arms to be moved in a particular direction, Gerald complied and did exactly what every person asked of him. After many of the guests were moved in some way Gerald moved on to his speciality and that seemed to be pulling people to the floor, which is exactly what happened to me first and when I stood up others were being pulled down. Gerald however had now managed to understand how to move people and wasn’t happy just pulling people to the floor, he now managed to push and pull people in different directions by their arms and move people into strange positions and when anyone asked that they be moved Gerald always picked on one particular guest to move them first before moving the person that asked to be moved, this was very amusing to watch, but unfortunately this session was not filmed by us.

The Third group to this area started in the same manner as all the other sessions, gentle arm movement, usually just lifting someone’s arms so that they realised it wasn’t them and then very quickly (probably because Gerald now understood how to move us) moved on to pulling people in strange ways. This session was much like the first session as Gerald moved various people’s arms to touch other people’s faces, chins, chests and legs, which became very embarrassing.

After just about everyone had been either; touched, pushed or moved in some way Gerald very quickly moved on to pulling people’s arms across the group so that we either had to move or fall over. Justin (the other male spirit) also made an appearance although this time would not really enter the room and staying the same place throughout much of the time. I could see and hear him laughing a lot.

Most of this session the physical nature of the event meant that generally we were all moved and hands were being moved in all directions from just about everyone, it was very similar to a modern game of Twister although this was in virtual darkness!

Many times my hands were pulled to the floor and dragged across the floor, which was actually quite painful, although I was the only person to spend time on the floor, which I suppose made a change, because the other two groups this was a usual occurrence.

As this session progressed several whistles were heard, but unfortunately we were all making a noise or talking when this happened and none of us had any idea where the noises came from, although the noises all sounded like it came from within the Fort rather than the dry moat.

After our controlled session we always allow the guests to wander quite freely to different areas of the Fort, usually with one of the GHE team in toe because of the various dangers at this fort. I joined a group of four guests in an area that they had not visited during our controlled sessions and we came across a familiar (to me) female spirit energy. Her name was Annie and she had been a Nurse at the Fort. One guest asked that she touch his hand and although he felt no proper or physical touch, he did feel a strange tingling sensation in his hand and arm. This is a normal sensation as Annie has previously made guests feel the same when they have been in this area.

This was an exceptionally physical ghost hunt as everyone felt some kind of physical paranormal activity, whether they wanted to feel it or not! Obviously many of the guests who experienced the dragging across the floor or pulled to the floor didn’t want to return to this area and spent the free time doing that so they ventured off to different areas to try to communicate with the spirit with some of our electronic gadgets. Many guests reported some interesting communication and everyone left happy as they had all experienced something that they didn’t expect and realised that actually it wasn’t as scary as they thought it was going to be.

Fort Horsted ghost hunt 21-9-2013

Thursday, November 7th, 2013

Fort Horsted ghost hunt 21st September 2013
Chatham, Kent

As ever the team always like returning to Fort Horsted as we always have interesting nights, sometimes though the ghost hunt is exceptional, this was one of those nights!

After separating the group into teams of three we set off to our nominated areas, I usually choose one of two areas, but for this event I had chosen I room that I first had a great experience, as did the guests that were with me.

The room was one of the old magazine rooms and the farthest walk from the rest of the groups so we could be fairly sure that there would be no noise pollution.

We were joined by Geoffrey, a lieutenant in the Army from the Second World War, he was aged in his late-20s or early 30s and came from Lincolnshire. Also present was another Second World War soldier called Paul who was a quieter or shy spirit. Both of them seem to have a funny side to their nature.

On asking these spirits to touch or move people slowly some people’s arms started to move and quite quickly various people’s arms started to stroke the arms of other people in the séance circle as well as pushing people’s chins up (as if to say stand up straight). Some guests arms were pulled to the floor and hands dragged on the floor.

One of the spirits kept calling one of the guests “Teddy Bear” which at first I ignored but after a while realised there must be a reason for this and told the male guest what the spirit was telling him. He was a little surprised because there was a family link with the phrase Teddy Bear.

I moved around the circle as some people on the opposite side of the circle to me were not feeling any movement. Once I had moved various people on this side of the circle started to feel their arms move and on command and once again there was some gentle pushing and pulling back felt by the guests. Some people were also dragged to the floor by their arms and had their hands dragged on the floor. Those that didn’t get dragged to the floor had felt the spirit energies gently rock them, either forwards and backwards or side to side.

During this séance we all heard footsteps further down the corridor, usually this sounds like someone approaching which is exactly what we heard but as ever no-one arrives. There were also sounds of chatter or mumbling but because of the acoustics of the room it is very hard to know which direction the sounds are coming from.

At the end of the session I held an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiment. During the recording we all heard a strange whistle after one person spoke, although nothing was recorded. There were several ghost voices on the recording but unfortunately many of them were either too quiet or tainted with some other noise (either someone speaking or moving their feet). There were however two clear EVPs which can be heard at:-

http://youtu.be/NBL7voeb9CQ
http://youtu.be/BQNZUBQnBko

The second group to this area (of which some have been to this Fort before and other had been on other ghost hunts of ours) knew exactly what to do during the séance. The two spirits from the first session were still present and almost immediately after I asked for the guests arms to be moved, the spirits complied and moved lots of people arms and pushing them into uncomfortable positions. One guest (Darren) wanted to see how far the spirits could push him and it was no surprise to me, but he ended up on his back on the floor!

We were also joined by a different spirit; a Colour Sergeant or Sergeant Major (the terminology depends on the division), this particular spirit was a very strict man although he was able to move people with greater force and stood behind one particular guest (Mark), the reason for this was apparent afterwards. Mark could feel a strange coldness behind him and Jo (who was next to Mark) also felt a sharp stabbing pain in her back, she said like a needle was pressed into her back. Another guest was afraid to look at the only doorway into the room, but this is a normal experience and exactly why I chose this room because that is what has happened to the majority of the guests that come to this Fort.

The Colour Sergeant wouldn’t tell me his name, but he had the demeanour of a man that if he asked you to jump, you would say, how high? He was 6 foot tall, quite strong looking build and quite muscular, he wore a moustache and had long sideburns that were down to his chin. He also wore the usual green fatigues and a cap with a red stripe. He also held a knotted/rope thing which at the time I didn’t know what it was, but have since found out this was called a swagger stick.

The Colour Sergeant stood directly behind Mark and he commented that he felt a thumb pushed into his back. (After we finished the session Mark told me that his father would do exactly the same thing when he was younger).

When asking for any of the spirits to make a noise, everyone heard the sound of a footstep, which Darren and I heard a noise that came from directly between us and since we were both looking at the floor, we each knew that neither of us moved.

Some other guests heard breathing noises behind them which became very unnerving.

At the end of this session I held another EVP experiment and since the majority of this group had been on a ghost hunt, they knew to be quiet. There were lots of spirit voices after the questions asked but unfortunately not all of them we could understand but out of 8 people there were 4 clear responses which can be heard at:-

http://youtu.be/CxF6YFMmSfU
http://youtu.be/0SujixcN1so
http://youtu.be/OLIq0cq0b3Q
http://youtu.be/vDTrIeQRZq8

The third and final group session in this same room the spirit energy of the Colour Sergeant and Geoffrey joined us and once again asking for the spirit to move arms of the guests resulted in some gentle but purposeful movements, most of the time on command i.e. when people asked for their arms to be moved (in their heads) their arms moved, obviously there is no way the person who was holding their hand knew that one of them had asked and was surprised when both their arms moved.

There was also some gentle pushing and swaying which some of the guests found unnerving but I find it is an excellent way to prove that people are not doing it themselves because it is very difficult to sway backwards because if you were doing it yourself you would not be able to see or know what you would fall into.

There was also some rubbing of people arms and shoulders with other people’s hands and once again some people were pulled by their hands to the floor, many of which didn’t want to touch the floor but no matter what they said (the guests) they ended up with their hands on the floor.

This was the only session of mine which was filmed (see the link below) and whilst Jason (GHE team Cameraman) was standing in the doorway to the tunnel he could feel a spirit near to him, this was a female energy, a nurse called Annie which I have seen at this Fort before. There was also another soldier from the Second World War; Alfred standing behind Jason and he commented several times that he could hear whispering and movement behind him.

After our controlled sessions we allow (as always) the guests to venture off to any area of the Fort under our guidance so that they can hold their own vigil or ghost hunt and use our ghost hunting equipment.

I joined a group in an area known as casement 10 and there was a male spirit in his mid-50s wandering about the rooms, he is a maintenance man and I have seen him before in this area. Whilst nothing exciting happened, some noises we heard and the guests that were here felt uncomfortable because it felt like someone was watching them. Other groups that used this casement in earlier groups reported the same thing.

Several guests went to the most interesting part of the Fort; The Counterscarp Galleries and held a séance where two people were pushed to floor in a strange way.

This session was filmed and can be watched at: – http://youtu.be/1x5LFzjS1Co

Fort Borstal ghost hunt – 31-8-2013

Wednesday, October 23rd, 2013

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 31st August 2013
Rochester. Kent

Fort Borstal is a favourite location of so many of the GHE team and since every time we return to this venue similar yet different paranormal elements occur. We never really know what to expect!

On this particular evening we only split the group into two smaller groups, normally we would split the whole group into three but many of the GHE team were away on holiday. Which left the guests more free time to explore the Fort after our controlled sessions.

As ever, I chose the counterscarp galleries for my sessions, not least because similar paranormal activity happens within this tunnel complex and it is also the one area of the fort where no outside noise can infiltrate. It is also one of the most interesting areas of the fort.

The first group to this area the group apprehensively wandered down the long tunnel to the end rooms. We started a séance circle and after explaining what may happen (based on what has happened on previous ghost hunt) one male spirit energy approached the group. This particular spirit I have seen and felt many times at the Fort, so have other guests.

His name is Captain Daniel Bedford and he would have been quite a strict person, but he is able to easily touch and move people. After asking for him to gentle touch and move people in some way, the guest to my right felt her arms starting to lift and at the time she wondered whether it was me moving her arms. I then was able to prove beyond any doubt that it was in fact Captain Daniel who was moving our arms. The guest in question then became silent and was testing both me & Captain Daniel and asked for her arms to be moved in various ways, all in her head so that I could not hear what she asked for.

I asked Daniel to move around the circle and do this to other people, but unfortunately he was unable to do this unless I moved around the circle, which I did twice so that others could feel this strange sensation. After several guests felt their arms moving and asking for their arms to be moved in a particular way by Daniel we ended the séance and the guests started to wander throughout the counterscarp gallery with some of our electronic ghost hunting equipment. Many guests were able to have meaningful answers to their question via this equipment and those that held our KII (EMF) meters noticed a correlation between the high levels shown on the meters and the amount of communication that followed.

The second group to the counterscarp galleries were not as nervous as the first group, probably because they had just encountered spirit in another part of the Fort and had become accustomed to the dark and not quite so scared of the dark.

Captain Daniel was still present and he was able to do much the same to many of the guest’s arms, but this time I did not have to move around the circle, he was able to move people of his own free will. Daniel was also able to do more with this group of people and instead of just lifting and manipulating people’s arms he was able to push some people forwards and rock them backwards as well. Some guests were also swayed and gently rocked from side to side.

After we finished the séance, once again the guests wandered around the counterscarp galleries with our ghost hunting equipment and many guests had their questions answered by Capt. Daniel.

After the controlled sessions we always allow the guests to wander around this Fort freely to visit other areas of the Fort that we didn’t investigate during the ghost hunt. I joined two guests who were hopeful that they would both have some interesting evidence. For this part of the night I escorted them to an area which we don’t often use as part of the ghost hunt because it is extremely dangerous to get to and is a very small area; The World War Two command post.

Here there was a spirit called Timothy who tried to touch both guests and move them but it took a long time before they felt his energy.

Whilst here I conducted an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiment. Out of the six questions there were four answers, but unfortunately two of those we couldn’t decipher or understand what Timothy had said. The other two can be heard at:-

Once again an interesting ghost hunt and one which many guests were able to experience first-hand physical paranormal activity.

Fort Borstal ghost hunt – 27-7-2013

Thursday, September 5th, 2013

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 27th July 2013
Rochester, Kent

I have personally waited many years to hold an indoor ghost hunt during a thunderstorm because I believe that it would be more atmospheric. This particular event proved that to be the case, atmospheric it certainly was. The thunderstorm waited until we were about to start and then continued for about three hours.

As this was an invitation only event there were four groups and each group were all as far away from each other as possible so that we could be sure that no noise could be heard from each group.

As ever I volunteered to go to one of the most physically demanding areas as the staircase has about 100 steps, which is 200 steps because you have to return!

We had set up all our motion sensor lights in one of these tunnels just to see if spirit could turn on one or two of the lights whilst we were at one of the counterscarp galleries.

The spirit energies in this part of the Fort didn’t really change all night, although the spirit energies were some that I have met before.

The first group there was lots of communication via our electronic equipment and considering the thunderstorm was in full swing and echoing throughout these tunnels we all heard something heavy being dropped inside the tunnels as it landed with a thud, what it was though we could not establish, nor see anything suspicious. Some of the motion sensor lights turned on periodically at the far end of the tunnel.

During the second group’s séance part there was some slight arm movement and when the motion sensor lights that were turning on and off randomly, some of us thought we saw the legs of a person, this was so real that one of the team (Sean) went to check to make sure it wasn’t a real person. It wasn’t.

The third group’s séance session, once again there was some light arm movement and the touching of chins with people’s arms. Many guests were also pulled backwards. During the séance many strange bangs were heard, although they did not seem to come from outside, but because of the echo in the tunnel this could not be ruled out. Although it is very unusual to hear outside noises in these tunnels because of the dry moat that surrounds the fort usually blocks all outside sounds.

The fourth séance group had the most activity in the counterscarp galleries, probably because of two reasons, firstly all the other séances were conducted in the main counterscarp galleries, but for this session I held the séance in the end room as this is where (on past ghost hunts) we get most of the activity. There was also a different spirit energy present; Capt Daniel Bedford who is relatively responsible for many of our good sessions in this part of the fort as he has much more energy and is able to move people more easily. Once again this started with very positive arm movement which quickly turned into pushing and pulling people, so much so that some people were pulled backward until their backs were against the walls.

The majority of people once pushed against a wall were then dragged by their arms or legs down to the floor, some guests were twisted until they had no choice but to join the rest of us on the floor. Once everyone was on the floor, little else happened.

After our controlled sessions we let all the guests roam the fort with our equipment to hold their own ghost hunts or vigils, I joined a group of people in the World War Two command post. Here there was a female spirit, her name was Debra and she was an ATS “Ack Ack” girl. (ATS Girls manned the anti-aircraft guns during the Second World War). There was also a male energy present who gave me the name of Devon (I presume this to be his surname) and although he was a military man he was dressed in 1950s attire. The rope that was hanging from the ceiling (a swing) looked as if it were moving but because we didn’t have any IR night vision cameras with us, we were unable to confirm this because we know that light plays tricks with our eyes in the dark. This was the first time that I had held any sessions in this part of the fort and many of the KII (EMF) meters were showing large spikes of energy and there was also some useful communication via the electronic equipment.

This was an invitation event and many of the guests thoroughly enjoyed the ghost hunt because we were using areas of the fort that we don’t usually use during our public ghost hunts and had the thunderstorm not started when we started we would have taken the guests into the dry moat as this area has never been investigated before. However we plan on repeating an invitation only event at this fort and next time there will be more areas that will be open for investigation.

Fort Borstal private ghost hunt – 13-7-2013

Tuesday, August 13th, 2013

Fort Borstal private ghost hunt 13th July 2013
Rochester, Kent

Due to this being a private ghost hunt we do things a little differently and allow the guests to have a lot more free time or time not set aside for fixed activities. We have found this usually makes the spirit energies more likely to engage with us and thus everyone gets a better ghost hunt.

After splitting the relatively small group down into two small groups, each group headed off, I took the first group to the Officers’ Mess and picked one of the many active rooms.

Within a few minutes two spirit energies came into the room; a female nurse from Second World War era called Margaret, who was about 25 years old, and about 5’8” in height and an unknown male energy who just looked at people and then promptly left. Although this male energy did continuously pop in and out and every time he did, some people in the room felt his presence.

Various KII (EMF – Electro-Magnetic Field) spikes were seen on the meters and there were also various communication answered on our electronic equipment.

I then asked a few guests to hold out their hands so that they could feel Margaret’s energy and several guests reported feeling the same sensations; a static electricity that started in their fingers and slowly travelled up their arms until it reached their elbow and a warm sensation.

After this I started a séance to try to get the spirit energies to come and touch various people. Within a few minutes Margaret was able to lift some peoples arms, starting with me, but it was easier for me to move around the circle so that everyone could feel what it felt like. Many of the hand movements were on command. I then asked the spirit to push or sway people and whilst the activity was slow, many guests did feel themselves losing their balance, which is a common occurrence when spirit try to move people.

Several times Carl (GHE team) whistled and asked for a response, however we heard a whistle response, but Carl didn’t.

At the end of this session we allowed the guests to roam about with our equipment.

The second group to this area, we started in the same room as the first and within a matter of minutes, Margaret came through and once again guests were able to ask questions and get intelligent answers. This time there was also another male spirit who I have come across before, but since I don’t usually spend time in this area during the public ghost hunts it has been a while since I talked to this spirit energy. His name was Sergeant Andrews and whilst we would call him a strict person, he did not think like that.

During the séance part of the night, arm movement was much better than the first group and always happened on command and this time the spirit energies were able to move different people within the group, without me having to move. Several guests had parts of their bodies stroked (chests and arms) and many had slow but defined punches, some guests were twisted and bent backwards.

One particular guest who was unusually quiet looked according to Carl (GHE Camera) slightly rigid almost as if he was fixed to the spot where he stood. As the arm movement progressed various people were also swayed and pushed and then suddenly the whole group was pulled in one direction. I was expecting us to stop when we got to the wall, but the spirit then carried on pulling us until we were forced to leave the room (still holding hands), along the corridor and into the adjoining room and pushed against the wall. It was a very strange experience. All the while the guest that felt the urge to move said he felt fine, but the tone of his voice did not suggest to the rest of us that he was, he seemed to take on the strictness of the spirit who were present, which by this time also included a Welshman who did not want to tell me his name. However once we were in this room I could see an outline of a spirit (as could a guest) but no detail, as we both started to describe him, we were both forced to the floor so that we could not see him anymore. After we were allowed to stand up the energy faded away and therefore I ended the séance as the spirit had obviously completed what they set out to do, however strange and odd it seemed to us.

The third session we all ventured into the Counterscarp Galleries as the staircase is not something you would walk frequently especially since this particular evening was a very warm one, although in the tunnels it is always cold.

One group of guests stayed with me, the other went off with Marc (GHE team) and tried some EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiments. The guests wanted to do another séance so I asked that the spirit join us, almost immediately Captain Daniel Bedford joined us (he is a frequent spirit energy in these tunnels) and started to move peoples arms, twisting them with other and generally moving as many people as he could, which turned out to be everyone accept one person. Various signs were “drawn” on people from a typical iconic smiley face symbol and various circles although at one point several male guests had their chins pushed upwards, similar to how an officer in the army would stand (chin up). There were also some strange punching sensations (which is a frequent occurrence with this spirit) and tapping and touching of people’s heads.

Since the guest that didn’t get moved wanted to feel something we walked to the other end of the tunnel after everyone had left (just 3 remained) and I was able to convince the spirit to move this guest and affect him without anyone touching him. Gently the spirit lifted his left arm and manipulated his right arm and when I asked for the spirit to push him, he got pushed, slowly at first and then more forcefully. At the end of this session I asked the guest to ask the spirit a question and I also asked a question, this was recorded as part of my EVP experiment. You can hear the results at

http://youtu.be/5IdTpm0c-rE
http://youtu.be/DitZkViSf24

All four of us then stood opposite each other but without holding hands and as I asked the spirit to push people, one at a time everyone started to feel a swaying motion, several times the guests had to take a step forwards or backwards to stop themselves falling over. During this we all heard some strange noises, the noises I heard sounded like heavy breathing just behind me, whilst other heard a drone sound.

After this guests spent the rest of the night venturing off on their own and spending time table tilting in the Caponier, which from what I witnessed was very impressive, the table moved violently and the guests were hardly touching it and in some guests each had just one finger on the table.

Once again a very active and interesting night and many guests felt or heard real paranormal activity.

Fort Borstal ghost hunt – 6-7-2013

Friday, August 9th, 2013

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 6th July 2013
Rochester, Kent

Fort Borstal is always an interesting ghost hunt for us as something that has never happened before usually happens to the guests however no one could have predicted what happened on this particular evening. As a team with a combined experience of over 100 years none of us have ever seen or witnessed anything that even comes close to what one particular guest experienced in the Caponier, however that will be covered in the second report by the paranormal investigators. However that doesn’t mean nothing of interest happened to the people with me on the contrary I too had a very unusual experience in the Counterscarp galleries…

The first group to the Counterscarp galleries we formed a séance circle in one of my favourite parts, it is actually the furthest room, not particularly big but usually the séance held here have a common theme, which I am very aware of and hence why I bring people to this area every time.

We were joined by a familiar spirit energy to this area; Captain Daniel Bedford who is a strict man however he also likes to make guests aware of his presence and he started by moving various peoples arms, sometimes on command other times of his own free will. He was also able to physically push some people. Using some people arms and hands he was able to rub the chins of some of the male guests, this is a common occurrence. He also tapped one particular guest three times on his head, very similar to the phrase “is anybody home”. Daniel was also able to slow punch two of the guests under the chin, as if to tell them to stand up straight. I and another guest were also pulled down so that our hands were touching the floor and our hands were dragged on the floor. Many guests heard the sound of “chatter” as well as breathing and whispering sounds, this is anomalous because the dry moat ground level outside the counterscarp galleries is about 15 feet below where we were stood inside and there are no animals wild or domestic in the moat. Several guests also saw something pass the windows since it was still light outside and other guests saw lights at the other end of the tunnel, no explanation could be established for either occurrence.

At the end of this séance I conducted an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiment. Unfortunately there was quite a lot of noise from the guests shuffling which when the files were analysed by our experts drowned out any spirit response because the echo in these tunnels is a lot longer than in a normal room. However the only good EVP can be heard at:-

http://youtu.be/UvrtQKX1Prw

The second group to the Counterscarp galleries I formed a séance circle in exactly the same room, hopeful that the same spirit energy would be present for the guests to experience his energy. Unfortunately he wasn’t but there was another male spirit called Bernard or Biffa to his friends present. He was from a time when the Fort was being built, about 1880, as he was a prisoner. Once I asked Biffa to move the guests in some way, lots of people arms were simultaneously moved and everyone felt a physical force push them down towards the floor. One particular guest (Chris) was pushed down with such a reasonable force that he couldn’t get up and whilst he thought it was safer to stay on the floor the spirit had other ideas. Biffa then managed to push and pull us all across the floor until Chris was pushed against a wall. I have no idea how we managed to be moved in this way and I have never seen a spirit manage to do this to people before. Once we were all against the wall Biffa then decided to twist people and bend them into what looked like impossible positions, yet we all managed to stay linked and the séance ended with us rubbing Chris’ chin which looked like a thinking man’s pose.

Just as we were about to end the séance everyone heard the sound of a whistle request that I had made earlier, they were two very distinct repeats of a whistle that I asked spirit to repeat about 20 minutes earlier.

The third group to the Counterscarps were not eager for more spiritual movement as they were the group that had the amazing activity in the Caponier, however during the séance in exactly the same room both Biffa and Captain Daniel were present and they continued moving people’s arms and pushing them. Once again we all heard the now familiar “chatter” and whisper sounds, although we still have no idea where these noises could have come from. Some odd noises were also heard coming from the moat, one of these sounded like a man groaning or cursing, however having walked the whole of the dry moat (in daylight) I know that this is very unlikely that anyone would have been in the moat as it is more or less impossible to get out especially at night where the hazards cannot be seen.

Using a spirit box (a device that scans the FM radio band in reverse at 100ms) we heard the words “Ann” “Hi” and eventually “Go”. None of the questions asked had any intelligible answer.

Moving to the other end of the Counterscarp gallery there were two Second World War soldiers present, one was Welsh and the other from Lincolnshire, neither did very much to affect the guests although Jason felt a poke in his stomach.

This was an exceptionally active ghost hunt with all guests getting some truly exciting paranormal evidence that they could not explain but nevertheless enjoyed.

The video of what happened that amazed us can be seen at http://youtu.be/b6FYM23wgJM although the report from this group is published under the Paranormal Investigators section.

Fort Horsted ghost hunt – 8-6-2013

Friday, July 19th, 2013

Fort Horsted ghost hunt 8th June 2013
Chatham, Kent

As a team we always look forward to our ghost hunts at Fort Horsted, as many of us have had some very unique experiences as well as our guests. We were also hoping that some of the things that happened during out previous visit on 18th May would happen again. The full investigation team were also in attendance so we have some video footage of the nights’ activities.

I started in my favourite area of the fort, it is also the furthest walk through some of the spookiest tunnels.

We were joined by a female spirit energy who I have seen before at this fort, and a male spirit energy who I have not seen before. The female spirit was called Annie, a nurse. The male spirit called Christopher was aged in his mid-30s about 5’9” in height and quite chubby.

The session started with some communication via our electronic devices, although no discernible activity was seen on our KII (EMF) meters. After starting a séance to prove to the guests that the spirit were indeed with us, I asked for people arms to be moved, which seemed to take a while, but once it started the spirits were able to easily move peoples arms, which the guests found perplexing and slightly scary. The arms of the guests were moved on command and at various times pointed to different people as well as pulling some people down by their arms. Throughout this session lots of strange banging sounds were heard by everyone and many guests saw shadows in the door way and the corridor beyond. I also asked that people be swayed or pushed by the spirits and it didn’t take long before many people felt like they were on a boat and Adam (guest) got pulled backwards a lot. I finished the session early because another male energy came into the room and he wasn’t a nice person. The only information I could get out of him was his name; Tom.

After the séance I conducted an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiment and although there were lots of possible ghost voices in the recordings, only two have been confirmed by our experts. You can hear these at:-

http://youtu.be/eT8QBSBBw4w
http://youtu.be/7YYveHUQ1Ik

The Second group, I also brought to this same area and once again both Annie & Christopher were both present, the nasty male energy thankfully was not.

Once again after I asked for arm movement, the spirit obliged and very quickly started to move everyone that they could, however there was also some strangeness to this as many people had their chins rubbed by the hands of other guests, why I don’t really know. Also when asking for the spirit to push or pull people many guests felt the same sensations as the first. We all felt the pulling down sensation although it was not as strong as what happened to the first group.

The Third group that ventured here had much the same activity although Nick (guest) had more activity than anyone else as the spirit energies took a liking to him and pushed, pulled and swayed him throughout the session. We were also joined by a third spirit energy called David; a Second World War soldier in his late 20s.

Once again a very active and exciting ghost hunt with the guests getting lots of paranormal experiences.

Fort Borstal ghost hunt – 1-3-2013

Tuesday, March 26th, 2013

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 1st March 2013
Rochester, Kent

Once again the team were just as excited as the guests to return to Fort Borstal for the first of our visits to this magnificent fort in March, it was also the first of four Forts for the month of March.

This was our third visit this year and one thing that we have started to notice is that activity here happens to people in small groups of four or five people, any more than that and the activity is lessened.

As usual my area for the night was the counterscarp galleries since the majority of the team don’t like the staircase (200+ steps)

The first group we started in the left hand side of the galleries and almost immediately there were high levels of KII activity as well as some electronic communication. Various spirits were present including a couple of sergeants from The Second World War, a lady and a child.

Some guests felt touches on their legs and there was a strange breeze in the tunnels which was very unusual because there are no holes or gaps to the outside and once the door is closed (which it was) there should be no airflow within the complex.

Many guests and I also heard strange mumbling sounds and many guests were extremely jumpy in the dark, so much so that they didn’t want to do a séance, as that would have meant standing in the dark.

The second group to this area we started a séance almost immediately as I could see that the spirit were eager to show the guests what they could do. The spirit was called Captain Daniel, he looked to be a First World War soldier but he didn’t actually tell me.

Initially this started with lots of arm movement which then slowly progressed onto people hands being pushed into other people and poking them in the stomach. From this point as the spirit got more used to moving people he started to push people forwards and pull them backwards. Darren (guest) who was standing to my left felt that he was being held in place, as if someone was stood behind him, stopping him from moving. Darren felt this as well and kept looking behind him during the séance.

At the end of this session I held an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiment. There were many responses but the experts (independent Sound Engineers) and I couldn’t agree on the words being spoken, some of this was due to noise of the guests shuffling their feet or putting their hands in their pockets during the recording. The best one from this session can be heard at:-

http://youtu.be/HDePzen8ZF0

After this experiment I let the guests wander throughout all the galleries with some of our electronic equipment. High levels of EMF energy (Electromagnetic Fields) were picked up on our KII meters as well as some levels of electronic communication.

The third group to the counterscarp galleries had the most activity, as we went straight into a séance and the same spirit (Captain Daniel) was present and eager to demonstrate his presence to the guests. Arm movement started immediately and progressed around the circle until just about everyone had their arms moved and then Daniel moved onto pushing guests forwards and pulling them back as well as swaying them from side to side. Some guests were pulled by their hands to the ground. When asking for certain people to be moved (pushed or pulled) this usually happened on command until the majority of guests had been manipulated in some way.

At the end of this session I held another EVP experiment, once again there were lots of responses but there was too much background noise (from people) that hampered the technical analysis, however the best ones can be heard at:-

http://youtu.be/DMDCz0vxbpU

http://youtu.be/doino0rTRKA

Once again the guests were free to wander throughout the rest of galleries.

The rest of the night the guests were allowed to wander freely around the Fort to visit areas or activities they enjoyed the first time around with our equipment and to hold their own ghost hunt or do a solo vigil.

Once again the guests thoroughly enjoyed their ghost hunt with us and many had some very unusual paranormal experiences.

Fort Borstal ghost hunt – 12-1-2013

Thursday, January 24th, 2013

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 12th January 2013

Rochester, Kent

As with any of the Forts that we investigate, we always look forward to each event as paranormal activity usually happens in a surprising manner and since Fort Borstal is relatively new to us (our first event was October 2012) we are still looking for the “gems” of the Fort.

As usual I took the area that few of my team wanted to go to, mainly due to the wonderful [sic] staircase, all 200 steps of it!

The first group started in the left-hand counterscarp gallery and we were joined by a prisoner who was in his early 20s, six foot tall and had a very stocky build. This spirit who didn’t give his name was however very happy to talk to the guests via our electronic equipment, although he told me that he was at the Fort in 1885, which meant that it is likely that he was one of the prisoners who built the Fort. He also answered questions posed by the guests and one of the questions was whether he was stuck here, to which he answered “Yes”. I asked if he wanted to leave and needed help to do so, but he did not confirm, in fact he seemed to be undecided on this.

During the séance this spirit energy was able to move some of the guests arms and also gently push the guests. The arm movements however were limited to just one half of the circle. There was also a female spirit energy present although she was watching us and didn’t want to talk to anyone.

Throughout the whole session there were high levels of EMF (Electromagnetic Fields) as shown on our KII meters and high level of electronic communication. Many guests also felt cold spots and drafts, even though this is a sealed space with the only access to the outside from the entrance that we had walked down and once the door is closed no sounds or air movement should affect us.

The second group to the same area felt the presence of the same prisoner energy and another male spirit who also didn’t want to give his name. Once again during the séance there was some minor arm movement and several guests including me felt items of clothing being touched or moved. One guest said that she felt a “proper” poke in her back.

Due to the fact that the level of activity was low, the group spilt up with half of the guests venturing down to the other end which is also another counterscarp gallery which looks out over the other side of the dry moat. They held a séance here as well and also had some light arm movement, but one guest felt some touches by spirit on his arm which scared him and the séance circle was broken.

After these two controlled sessions, like the majority of our ghost hunts, we then let the guests roam and go to whichever area they would like to do their own ghost hunting. Many of the guests opted for The Officer’s Mess area, as this area was not used during the controlled sessions.

Four guests however asked me if I would join them back in the counterscarp galleries as they wanted to get a similar level of activity they experienced the first time. On enetering the area for the third time I noticed that the atmosphere felt different, a good different. After the guests wandered around the right-hand side gallery and made their way to the left-hand, I set up my laser grid in one of the tunnels and although nothing interesting was seen, it did allow me to take some interesting photos. I then joined the group and suggested that we hold a séance as I could see spirit energies wanting to “play”.

As soon as we started the séance a male spirit energy called David joined us, he was a high ranking Officer in the British Army from the Second World War era and he had 3 pips on his shoulder, which I have since found out means that he was a Captain. He was in his 50s and about 5’8” in height. He sported a full beard which was “Salt & Pepper” in colour and he wore round rimmed spectacles. David was very polite but also very stern, but when I asked whether he would move the guests he immediately said to be “Fine” and then everyone felt their arms being moved along with lots of swaying and pushing, followed by lots of twisting sensations and people being pushed into other people.

Scott (guest) was also able to ask questions in his head and use us as pendulums for yes and no answers, all of which were answered correctly according to Scott.

At the end of this session I held an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiment and played it back immediately as I thought I heard some answers to the questions posed by guests, however the biggest surprise was the question that I asked, everyone could hear the answer when the recording was playing, without any enhancement, which is quite rare.

The EVP can be heard at http://youtu.be/RpVS3t_x6LE

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the ghost hunt with many people getting their own paranormal experiences, many guests experienced the most activity when they were in small groups of just 4-5 people.

Fort Horsted ghost hunt – 8-12-2012

Tuesday, January 15th, 2013

Fort Horsted ghost hunt 8th December 2012
Chatham, Kent

This ghost hunt was the last to take place at Fort Horsted for 2012 and we were hoping that the spirits would make this event special; we and our guests were not disappointed.

Each member of the Ghost Hunt Events team has their favourite location within this fort and although I do not enjoy the stairs (all 192 of them) I do enjoy taking the guests to the counterscarp galleries, as something interesting usually happens to the guests.

My first group were joined by a male energy called Michael who was 27 years old, about 6’ in height and generally well built. Michael gave the year as 1950s when he worked at the Fort as a maintenance man and plumber.

During the séance part of the session Michael was easily able to move the arms of the guests, mainly on command but also into unusual positions as well. Michael also proved that he was standing behind guests by pushing them and pulling them backwards.

Many of the guests felt cold spots and temperature fluctuations around them as well as tingling sensations. Some of the guests felt the full effect of Michael’s attention and swayed these guests in all directions. Some of the time Michael wanted to stroke the chins and faces of guests. Why never became clear.

I asked that Michael should do something different as a finale and although I had an idea (as did everyone) what was going to happen, as all our arms were being manipulated towards the centre of the circle like the musketeers “all for one” salute. Then out of nowhere we all were pushed to the right in a circular motion.

I then held an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiment and guests asked Michael questions about him.

There were several responses but the clearest can be heard at:-

http://youtu.be/rQ8qDIVjm_c
http://youtu.be/oaKPrS3iwjk

The second group to the same area Michael was present again, but this time a female energy called Chloe had also joined us. Chloe was about 5’8” in height, blonde and dressed in a Second World War army uniform. She told me that she was a gunner (Anti-Aircraft) at the Fort during the Second World War.

Once again all the guests were treated to some interesting arm movements, which for the second time that evening mostly on command plus the face and hair stroking that the first group encountered.

This session however there wasn’t much physical movement, although some guests did get pushed and pulled but not to the same extent as the first group.

Many guests reported that they felt numb as the spirit moved them. Shadows were also seen in the doorways and at time we all heard some very strange noises, which we could not fathom.

The third group to the counterscarp galleries felt the spirit energies of both Michael and Chloe. Once again many guests felt their arms being manipulated and for the second time this evening the majority of the guest’s arms were moved to form the “all for one” salute.

Some guests also had the urge to laugh a lot as the spirit energies neared to them. Both Michael and Chloe were responsible for this as well as pushing guests into each other which proved very amusing from our point of view.

At the end of this Séance I held another EVP experiment and once again there were lots of answers to the guests questions but the majority of the answers we (and our experts) could not work out exactly what was being said, however there is one clear answer which can be heard at:-

http://youtu.be/jf13g8kCAzg

After we had completed our controlled sessions the guests were then able to go to any area of the fort that they wished under supervision from us, the majority went to continue with Ouija boards in two distinct areas of the Fort.

I and another team member went off to do our own EVP recordings and although I have nothing yet to show for it, we are still analysing the results as we recorded about 20 EVPs in the space of about 10 minutes. Early indications are that we have some extremely clear answers to our questions, which will be published on the website as soon as we can complete our analysis.

All of our guests thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the level of spiritual activity was extremely high, we cannot wait to return to Fort Horsted in March 2013.
