Fort Borstal private ghost hunt – 2-2-2013

Fort Borstal private ghost hunt 2nd February 2013
Rochester, Kent

This was a special ghost hunt for a Hen party as they wanted something scarier than a hotel, they couldn’t have picked a better location as the very nature of this Fort is meant to be hidden and the owners maintain that.

The best evidence to be had at this location is when there are very few people in a particular part, but because this group wanted to stay together (to start with) we all headed off to the old Officer’s Mess area.

After we gave the majority of the guests some of our kit to enable them to detect the spirit energies that were present, whilst I and Carl (a colleague) filmed them we noticed that any small amount of noise made the guests a bit jumpy, bearing in mind of course that we were in virtual darkness.

There were some extremely high levels of EMF detected and shown on our KII meters and the ghost communicator devices were also busy during this time. Many of the guests were asking the usual types of questions although several times someone asked whether the spirits would like us to leave and every time the answer was “Yes”.

Other guests felt some light touches and lights were seen in the room and after a while once everyone had got used to the dark I decided to hold a séance. The spirit energies that were present; two prisoners Timothy & Jeremy from the 1880s were able to move some people’s arms and also gently push some people, not to the point of falling over, but enough for them to know that it wasn’t them losing their balance.

After a short break the guests all went off with the other two members of my team; Marc & Jo to use Ouija boards and to do some table tilting whilst Carl & myself went off to a separate area to do some EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiments and to test some new hearing enhancement kit.

Once the guests came back from this session we then let them decide what they wanted to do & where they wanted to go. Most of the guests wanted to go to the counterscarp galleries as this was the only area in which they hadn’t visited during the first two sessions, so the whole group was split into two groups and I took the first group to the galleries.

As soon as we arrived in the area and after the guests wandered throughout the galleries I decided the best way the guests could experience spirit activity was to hold a séance. Captain Daniel Bedford was the spirit energy that was keen to demonstrate his abilities. He was about 6’3” in his late 20s and of a slim build. He seemed to be a very strict man and angry that he had passed away during the First World War, he considered himself too young.

Throughout the séance Daniel was able to manipulate the guests’ arms as well as push them forward and pull them backwards. He was also able to twist people and pull them down onto the floor. Some guests tried to resist this movement but the spirit energy was far greater than their strength and eventually all guests were moved, some pinned against a wall.

At the end of this séance I conducted an EVP experiment the best results can be heard at:-
http://youtu.be/prEBSLiGhzo
http://youtu.be/4oqhNyUcmXg
http://youtu.be/5fdvZiJM_nQ

The second group to this area were also treated to some unusual arm movement by Daniel although this time and with these guests many felt pains in their knees and this was before any pushing and pulling had started. Many guests in this group were also swayed and twisted and eventually the same types of movements were felt by this group as well and even though there were more people in this group than the first once again many people were pushing against a wall, resisting the force turned out to be futile as the spirit energy just wanted us against a wall, once we were moved to the wall the pressure felt in peoples arms and legs just dissipated away.

Once again a very enjoyable ghost hunt and one which everyone present are unlikely to forget as this was one of the most physical ghost hunts at Fort Borstal that we have undertaken.

Fort Horsted ghost hunt (2nd Report) 22-9-2012

Friday, October 12th, 2012

Fort Horsted ghost hunt 22nd September 2012
Chatham, Kent.

Group B – Hanging Room

As we climbed the stairs and entered the room, I felt there was someone standing in the corner on the left, the guest behind me felt the same.  Immediately we had spirit present on the K2’s and Ghost Pro’s.  I asked if the spirit had been with us at last week’s ghost hunt – answered yes.  We then established it was the French Soldier called Cuet.  He was a prisoner at Fort Horsted, and said he was killed in this room.  We also had another spirit on the Ghost Pro – a British Soldier from WWII.  Asking for spirit to make a noise, we heard a footstep.  Guest were also sensing spirit walking around them, with some guests being touched.  I asked for spirit to move some of the guests, and some said they had.  Dan to my right, myself, and Charlie to my left all felt they being pushed forward.  I had placed a ball and motion sensors at the top of the stairs, and although the ball didn’t move the sensors were activated several times.  Just as our session came to an end and torches were being turned on, I saw a someone standing against the wall to the left of the stairs with his arms folded, turning my torch on thinking it was a guest, no-one was there.  Explaining what I saw, Charlie (guest) said he had seen the same.  This was a first for me seeing spirit, and having someone else see the same confirmed I wasn’t imagining it.

Group C – Hanging Room

Again when entering the room we had K2 and Ghost Pro spirit activity immediately.  And after a short while of questioning we established we had the same spirit energies as before.  I was also able to find out the spirit I had seen before was the British Soldier.  We also noticed, we had two Ghost Pro’s in use and the British and French Soldiers always came through on the same one.  The British on one and the French spirit on the other.  Whilst standing in the room one guest started feeling sick and dizzy.  She swapped places with someone else and she started feeling the same, whilst the other guest was feeling better.  A third person stood in that area and again felt unwell.  We then noticed a warm area where spirit said they were standing, however on the opposite side of the room guests were feeling very cold behind them.  We asked spirit to make everyone feel cold, and those that were feeling warm started feeling cold.

Group A – Hanging Room

Again when entering the room we had K2 and Ghost Pro spirit activity immediately, confirming that the same two energies as before were with us.  When guests stood in a particular corner of the room they felt unwell, stepping away they felt much better.  After 45 minutes guests Graham & Adam wanted to be in the room alone, so I took the remaining guests to the opposite side of the fort.  As we were walking there one of the guests looked left into a room and felt an unfriendly male energy looking back at her, her ghost pro lit up and stayed lit up until we got to room 34.  We tried to establish who the spirit was but it was inconclusive.  Adam & Graham in the meantime had felt uneasy on their own, feeling very cold.  They threw a ball onto the floor, which moved, stopped, then started moving again.  When asking spirit on the Ghost Pro if they had moved the ball, the answer was yes.

Fort Horsted never disappoints, can’t wait to return.

Fort Horsted – 15-9-2012

Fort Horsted ghost hunt 15th September 2012
Chatham. Kent.

As a team we were really looking forward to September as it meant that we were visiting Fort Horsted three times to hold ghost hunts.

The first on 14th September was a Hen night party and we had a really good séance session we also recorded a stone being thrown towards the group on video see http://youtu.be/eDaYBTnKHSc

So we were all anticipating this ghost hunt to be just as productive. It was!

Just before we let the guests into the Fort, I was in the smoking area which is at the end of the long tunnel and heard the sounds of metallic scraping, similar to someone moving a load of scaffold poles. Since I know I was the only person in that area and it wasn’t a windy night I did think that that was strange. Later in the evening two guests were also in the same area and they too both heard the same sort of noise.

The group was split into two smaller groups and I headed off for an area which I don’t often investigate, but this is an area which produces lots of strange anomalies and it is the furthest away from the other group.

We had small amounts of KII activity although quite a lot of communication through our electronic devices and the guests heard moans and groans, whistles, female voices and muttering, music and a female singing. We were joined by a female spirit energy called Mary Beth she was quite reserved and whilst holding a séance she was able to push some of the guests and move their arms.

Mary Beth was in her early 30s about 5’8” in height and had passed away during 1870s.

One of the guests (Emma) wandered down the tunnel that we walked to get to where we were to see if she could hear the sounds of the female mumbling and whispering better. She could and then came back very quickly to the rest of us! Towards the end of the session many of the guests including myself could hear the sound of laboured breathing, at first I thought this could be the sound of Sean (Cameraman) breathing as the noise in the room echoes. But as he moved away from us, several guests heard the same sound and it was much louder than the first time. Since Sean had moved away from the group he exclaimed that he though he heard the sound of Children playing, this is extremely unlikely considering it was about 10pm.

The second group session I returned to the same area that I was with the first group. Once again we had lots of communication via our equipment but little or no observed KII activity.

We were joined with a female energy that I have come across before in this Fort and in this room. Her name was Annie and she was a nurse in the First World War. During the resulting séance Annie was able to move just about everyone and arm movement was on command. Annie was also able to push people so that they were bent over and one guest (Dave) who was a sceptic got pushed so hard that he was pushed onto the floor. Many other guests were also pushed downwards and on to the floor. Many guests including me could smell lit matches, which is very distinctive and since we knew that we were alone in this area and no-one was in the smoking area it was rather strange. Some guests also smelt horse manure which equally was strange as there are no horses anywhere near the Fort.

The following two sessions were held in casement 26 which is the most strenuous to go to and from and since I didn’t want to be climbing the staircase (which has 92 steps) twice, the whole group went there in one go and then split up into the two areas at each end of the casement.

During the resulting séance held in this area two Second World War soldiers joined us; Justin and Taff, both were mischievous and they were able to push most of the guests and move their arms without much trouble. Michelle (guest) felt tugging on her coat during this séance and Chris (guest) who was also a sceptic was pushed to the floor. Dave who had already been pushed over once had the majority of the spirit energy affect him and towards the end of this session he was pushed with a lot of force that he could only fall over! Both Dave & Chris were speechless at this activity and had no logical explanation for what happened to them.

The fourth session I stayed put in this area and the guests swapped over, the same WWII energies were able to push people as before, some of which were pushed to the floor or bent over. Plus there was some strange arm movement felt by the guests including twisting or arms, which at times became very painful.

Once again this was a very enjoyable ghost hunt and one in which just about all of the guests had some form of physical paranormal activity happen to them.

We recorded many audio clips throughout the evening but as yet we have not been able to identify any EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voices).

Bicknor Church and Woods ghost hunt – 3-8-2012

Wednesday, August 15th, 2012

Bicknor Church & Woods ghost hunt – 3rd August 2012

Every time we come here for a ghost hunt something different and interesting happens, either in the woods or near the church. This time however we had both.

Around the back of the church (in a field), which on previous occasions has been the scene of some very unusual and paranormal activity, we came across a female energy who would not tell us any personal information, but according to our communication devices we were standing on her grave.

Some unusual noises and whistles were also heard by the guests and the Ghost Hunt Events team.

Also whilst sat here we used the Ovulus and some words were heard in response to guests questions. There was also a very high level of KII activity as if the energy was walking to and fro from the church. Using our SB7 (a spirit box, which scans the radio frequencies in reverse at 100ms) we all heard “Hello” spoken.

Several of the questions asked were recorded for possible ghost voices (EVPs – Electronic Voice Phenomena) and there are some excellent spirit voices recorded. You can hear them at:-

http://youtu.be/G0NQOKG8l08
http://youtu.be/_V-TPbrk95s
http://youtu.be/9brjNSuRLVw

As we were walking away from the car park, Stuart & Donna (guests) heard a sound which made them catch up with the rest of us, Stuart described the sound as being a metallic clanking sound, not like keys, but something heavier.

We then made our way into the woods, which were as usual very quiet with a distinct lack of animal sounds, which makes hearing any noises that much easier. There was also no wind to speak of either.

After setting up a laser grid pointing along the path, many people noticed that some of the lights were being blocked as if someone was walking across the path. Many guests felt unstable on their feet and several complained of swaying which was unusual because the path is generally flat.

Also in this spot there were brief periods of high KII activity. Whilst Carl & Marc (Ghost Hunt Events team members) carried out an EVP experiment, I walked further down the path to find a particular spot which on a previous occasion proved to be a rather active place and one in which many of the guests present felt uncomfortable as well as very high levels of spiritual and ghostly activity.

After walking the guests to the spot that I had just come from we held a séance to try to get the spirit energies that were present to physically move the guests.

We were joined by two energies, one a male energy called Roy who was 67 year old and a local farmer and Francis who was female and about 30 years old.

Gentle arm movement was felt by Wendy, Lloyd, Bradley and Stuart (guests) and when I asked for the energies present to push some guests Andy, me, Lloyd and Bradley all felt some gentle pushing. Several of the guests also noted that they thought they could see shadows moving within the woods.

During the séance and afterwards Andy was being drawn to an area to the right of where we stood, he kept looking in that direction during the séance and after we finished he had the urge to go to that area. When he got there he felt cold (it was a warm night) and also nauseous. Andy then called me over to see if it was just him. It wasn’t. I too did not feel right in this spot and although I cannot describe exactly how I felt, my head did not feel right, like I had just been shaken violently.

At this point Andy had to leave as he was feeling ill, the nausea had got too much. The rest of the group came over and with the communication device we established that this particular spot had been the site of a murder. The energy that was causing all the feelings was a male energy about 14-16 years old and he had been strangled and his body buried in the woods. He did not, or was not able to give a year and the audio recording from this area revealed no voices. Unfortunately the feelings I felt had got the better of my and I too had to leave the area as I was feeling the same sensations that Andy felt. Just before I left the area Donna, Stuart & Wendy all had a metallic taste, which is usually the taste of blood, they too felt the coldness and we all heard voices and footfalls in the direction of the path. But since I had to leave none of them wanted to stay there!

Carl also decided that he would investigate the area, but after a few minutes he too came back and reported that he tasted blood and said that the area did not feel right.

We decided that this was probably a good time to stop the investigation and made our way back to the Church.

Once again a very active and enjoyable ghost hunt with plenty of activity and some very clear EVPs (ghost voices) recorded.

Fort Horsted ghost hunt – 9-6-2012 (Two)

Tuesday, June 26th, 2012

Fort Horsted Ghost Hunt – 9th June 2012

Having mustered group A MW and Kym set up vigil in area 10, commencing in the right hand side room as you enter the area. A ouija table, hand bell, singing bowl and candles had been installed prior to the guests arrival, and trigger objects set out in area 21 (a wooden cross, two old type florins, equivalent to 10p nowadays, and a small packet of old type cigarettes and an old matchbox). The group joined hands and embarked upon a séance/vigil, with Kym and MW calling out, assisted by Carl who was also responsible for video camera work. Several guests noted a distinct change in temperature, getting colder, with a “breeze” apparent on several occasions during this initial phase. MW picked up on a “presence”, female, and indications of a nursing connection. No name was evident. MW also reported sensing something behind him over his left hand shoulder, supported in this “feeling” by Lisa, who also reported a “tickling sensation on her face” likened to something crawling over her skin. She felt it was her hair, and constantly sought to adjust her fringe etc only to note that it was not her hair causing the effect at all. Several other guests indicated strange sensations on their respective personage, with leg/feet tingling, two independent cases of “something touching their lower leg areas”, someone reported having been touched from behind and several instances of swaying to and fro were noted.

Whistling was emitted several times by team/staff members and on at least two occasions all agreed that they had clearly heard a response, copying the original whistle pattern. A long, pronounced sigh was reported by one guest, emanating from above and behind the group. Requests to have spirit affect the candles revealed no change at all. At one point a long, high pitched “noise” became evident, though shortly afterwards, a passing, distant vehicle or motorbike engine could be heard, which may have attributed to the original anomaly, this was inconclusive.

During filming, and in tandem with MW announcing his “feeling” a presence moving about the outer area of the circle, Carl identified separate orb activity over and above/around MW and Lisa, this was clearly seen and recorded for further analysis. With several more instances of “strange feelings” and possible “contact” the circle was abandoned and the group moved across passage way to the ouija board area. Almost instantly, guests remarked on the falling temperature, however, MW and two other guests reported feeling extremely hot and sweaty, despite the coolness of the surroundings. Making provision for protection and ensuring that only the goodness and light were requested to come forward, a session ensued with some remarkable results. Shortly after commencing, Carl appeared to be in “distress” and MW asked if he needed assistance. Having encountered a “metallic taste” in his mouth he felt nauseous and in need of some fresh air. MW took over the camera and Carl left the building.

The board/glass indicated a presence, spelling out the name “GUGZ” which MW asked was perhaps a nickname, to which a pronounced and positive “YES” was the answer. Further questioning revealed a WW1 association/connection in the fort and a possible link with conscientious objectors, indicating that the spirit may well have been a guard or similar? MW indicated another presence within the room, a male and noted a name, but refrained from speaking until further table information was revealed. Spelling out the first three letters of the name when requested “PAR” MW interjected and advised the group that he had ;picked up on the name “PARKY” which immediately received a resounding ”YES” from the board. Pursuing the questioning, it was revealed that this link emanated from WWII with no connection whatsoever to the previous contact.

A lengthy and “informative” debate/conversation ensued culminating in a request from Kym for spirit to inscribe specific shapes and figures in the middle of the table. This was successfully achieved on three separate occasions with spirit providing a pronounced triangle shape, circle and a figure of eight in the midst of the table, amazing our guests somewhat.

Carl returned at this juncture, feeling much better, and MW, almost immediately, reported a total camera failure. Further checks revealed a drained battery supply to the video recorder, which minutes previously, had indicated almost three (3) hours further taping capacity. No explanation can be given for this strange anomaly, and both MW and Carl commented on the fact that this had never happened before at this venue? Guests, not actively involved in the Ouija were invited to “explore” the surrounding lighting tunnels, especially after MW reported a strong, cold breeze, emanating from one of the apertures, housing the candles, clearly affecting the flame. It should be noted here that the weather outside was still, calm and quite “warm and humid”, considering the recent gale force winds encountered in the locale. Other guests confirmed their having felt this “breeze” and noted a distinct fall in temperature simultaneously. MW reported the presence of a male spirit possibly called Ted who was moving around the room, but did not appear to engage with the guests via the board. When asked, Parky did refer to other spirits being present but could not define the number as requested, via the board. Pro Ghost Meter activity throughout the vigil was constant and regular though with the activity evident on the board, guests were not engaging with the meter so much, feeling more inclined to question and “communicate! with spirit via the Ouija board. KII EMF Meter activity was zero! The MEL Meter registered background, ambient readings no higher that 0.2mG Board activity declined until suddenly, and after several changes in guest involvement and participation, a new “contact” engaged with the group, at first tentatively, and with mixed, legible/credible messaging. However, in depth, specific, questioning, from two guests, confident that the letters being indicated were revealing details of a person that had passed, who knew one of those guests, proved fruitful. Scott Warner, an eighteen year old male, who died very suddenly, revealed himself through the board. Guarded questions from the two guests involved eventually did reveal factual evidence of this engagement, particularly the fact that this spirit had attained British, Judo Championship status, in his short lifetime. Clearly, the two guest involved, expressed emotional surprise, and after further engagement with the spirit, surprise at the clarity and information of the encounter both factually and personally. It transpires that Mark (guest) was a relative of this unfortunate young man and appeared convinced that he had indeed encountered the lads spirit.

Several times guests noted distinct cold spots within the immediate séance area. Throughout our time in area 10, constant, background mumbling could be heard, almost totally not connected with fellow investigators in the far off area 34. Checks indicated that there were no other people in the immediate area. Strange and general noises were apparent sporadically and “knocks/taps” were distinguishable at certain stages of the vigil. An EVP was undertaken in area 10 the details and data recorded still awaiting full analysis, though during, on site playback, there does appear to be some evidence of response/engagement at various points in the tape. Closing down the Ouija activity the group wandered through the tunnel towards the smoking area where several guests were invited to “explore” the area 21 lighting tunnels. MW broke off with several guests to visit the upper room in area 21 where trigger objects had been placed earlier in the evening. Guests were surprised to note that the wooden cross and one of the coins had indeed moved very slightly. During an encounter in the lighting tunnel, Matt and Simon heard footsteps behind them, accompanied by MW, and felt as if they were being followed very closely. Both guests were unnerved by this experience and asked to leave the area. A similar result ensued with Tom and Ryan. Upstairs, a brief EVP was undertaken and the results remain to be fully analysed.

The first session ended shortly afterwards and a refreshment break ensued.

The session with Group B, accompanied by the same staff/team members, went far more “quietly”. Area 10, the right hand side room, séance/hand holding session revealed very little activity with one female guest reporting feeling as if she were “swaying”, and Kym with guest to right were also being pushed backwards. Ouija activity in the adjacent room was extremely slow and subdued. However, once the glass began to move, the guests were led around the table, in a clockwise, circular motion, the glass actually spinning beneath their fingers. Messaging was indecipherable in the main with some words being evident but little meaningful or intelligent outcome being achieved. As the circular motion of the glass led the guests around the table, vibration and “wobbling” was reported by the guests. This increased, and strangely enough, appeared to be more intense, when female guests only requested activity on the board.

It was then decided the guests tried table tipping and whilst this was happening Kym filmed two orbs in the doorway.  Kym & Carl then moved into the corridor and twice heard whistling.  Kym returned to film the table being moved and felt a coldness to her right, described as a freezer door being opened.  Guests on the table in front felt this too. The table began to “shudder” and “shake”, faintly at first but building up gradually to a pronounced rocking and even an attempt to move the table across the floor surface. To illustrate the table movement more obviously, MW rested the hand bell on the table and during filming by Kym, the bell actually was made to ring clearly with the movement of the table by spirit.

Guests were clearly excited and surprised at this anomaly, and constantly sought to double check that there was no mechanical movement or false indications creating the activity of the table. MW encountered a strong and sudden headache at this juncture, which passed within ten minutes. Leaving the area 10 rooms behind, the group transited the tunnel once again, leading out into the open air and the smoking area.

After a short refreshment break, the final vigil began with a brief to enable guests an almost free range opportunity to engage in activities throughout the Fort. Paul, the “owner” assisted by taking small groups of guests to view the WWII graffiti areas. MW assisted guests in brief visits to area 21 again, area 34, where an EVP ensued, the data still to be analysed. Finally, a combined group visited area 26 where a laser grid was set up and calling out ensued.

Another EVP ensued and data will need to be reviewed. A hand holding séance, filmed by Sean, was undertaken with various anomalous results most interesting being two distinct “knocks or taps” from an adjacent wall. Very little else was reported or encountered by guests during the closing stages of the evening. A final and brief visit to the upper room in area 21, to check and retrieve the trigger objects revealed further slight movement to the cigarette box and the coin. MW also convened a brief EVP exercise whilst retrieving the goods the details of which still need analysing. The event finished at 0200 with guests appearing happy, contented and sufficiently satisfied with the event in general.

The full video footage from this event will be available on http://www.ghosthuntevents.tv by the end of June 2012. Episodes will be priced at £1 each.

Red Lion Hotel – 14-4-2012 Part 3

Friday, April 27th, 2012

The Red Lion Hotel, Colchester. Essex – 14th April 2012

Ever since our first ghost hunt at the Red Lion Hotel back in January 2012, we as a team thoroughly look forward to visiting the Red Lion Hotel in Colchester and every time we go more activity and unexplainable episodes are experienced by us and our guests. So our expectations were high, but we were not disappointed.

My designated area for the evening was the cellar, the first group of people were all new to ghost hunting, however spirit energies came forward to provide them with some evidence. We were first joined by a male energy called James, he was about 28 years old and of a slim build and a round face, he gave me the impression that he was a religious man and connected with the church. He gave the year as 1930. James started to use his energy to move us, by gently moving the guest’s arms. Lucy (guest) felt a very odd sensation in her arm, like pins and needles and goose bumps. Kristein (guest) also saw lights and shadows at the other end of the cellar.

Carolanne (guest) said she felt child energies and had the desire to sign patriotic Vera Lynn songs from WWII. During this time I was being swayed left to right, which I didn’t notice until one of the guests mentioned it to me.

When I was calling out for spirit to copy a whistle, some of the guests heard whistles whilst I was talking and one guest heard a whistle in repeat of what I asked for. Audible sound played an important role during the ghost hunt and after a beer barrel was tapped, everyone heard footsteps within the cellar. At one point we all heard a strange groaning sound which I thought came from our remote cameras, other guests however thought it came from outside. On inspection of the footage recorded from this session the groaning sounds more like it actually came from the remote camera than outside.

There was also a female energy present, she was rather nervous and about 16 or 17 years old who had long ginger hair and wearing a very flowery summer dress.

When I asked spirit to make someone smile, Lucy started to laugh out loud, which is exactly what I asked for in my head, as I felt the energies would be able to make people laugh for no real reason.

A Second World War soldier was also present, his name was Matt but that is all the information he gave me.

After we broke the séance circle, myself and Lucy found it quite difficult to let go as it felt that both of us were “stuck” together with an invisible force.

During this session, many noises, footfalls and whistles were heard all within the cellar, the electronic equipment; K2 and Ion meters all registered high levels of activity.

The second group to the cellar felt completely different to me, the energies that were here in the first session had moved on and a male energy by the name of Alfred came forward, he was local man, aged in his late 60s, with greying hair, quite a stocky build who wore a flat cap and was what I would call a typical granddad type. He told me that he tendered an allotment which was straight down the high street. One of the guests (who lived locally) confirmed that this information is correct.

During the resulting séance, strange creaking sounds were heard by all, as if someone was walking on creaky floorboards, however there are no floorboards in this area. Many lights were seen by the guests as well as cold spots.

Alfred did attempt to touch and move some of the guests, however not all guests felt his energy. As I explained to the guests that Alfred would not have touched women (the group was all female) in his physical life and therefore he took those values with him into his spiritual life.

The third group to the cellar once gain had a completely different feeling and we were almost immediately joined by a First World War soldier, whose name was Captain Timothy West, standing about 5’11” wearing round spectacles and sporting a moustache. He was 22 or 23 years of age and carried a crop or stick and wore brown leather boots. Timothy happily started to move the arms of the guests, mainly backwards but would only push the male guests, forwards, backwards and from side to side. Many guests including myself had pains in our ankles which I attributed to Timothy as he was the only spirit energy present. Many of the guests felt cold spots however after about 30 minutes Timothy left us and the cellar felt completely flat. I then decided we would enter the cellar of the coffee shop since this area felt very active on my first visit to the Red Lion Hotel.

Once everyone was seated comfortably in the coffee shop cellar, we all heard a sound that resembled someone crushing a plastic bag. Whilst in this area guests and myself were asking out for spirit to copy rapping sounds and some responses were heard by everyone. Our K2 meters detected lots of activity and during an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena – a.k.a. ghost voice) experiment the K2 meter registered highly after every question that was asked, however at the time we heard nothing audible. However on analyses of the recordings many voices were heard, the best examples can be heard below.

http://youtu.be/j8bvmz_zmMM
http://youtu.be/HibyJG_or6E

Then we heard what sounded like someone rifling through a box of crisps, knocking the box over and running away. I sent Sean (cameraman) up to the coffee shop as I envisaged that someone had entered the coffee shop and was stealing the produce, I followed Sean and the both of us expected to see someone in the coffee shop, or at least the door open. However when we opened the door to the cellar, there was nothing out of place, nor any boxes knocked over, nor in fact any crisp packets within the establishment. One of my team members was outside at this time and on speaking to him he was stood outside for the last ten minutes and saw and heard nothing that could have been responsible for the sounds that we heard. In video footage for this instance the clarity of the sounds we heard is very audible and on watching this you can probably understand our reaction; that someone had broken into the shop.

http://youtu.be/OQte0vTZRTU

All of the guests felt the need to leave the cellar and follow us into the main coffee shop.

From this point on we then had a 30 minute window where we allowed the guests a free roam of the hotel, many of these guests re-visited areas in which they felt the most activity or participated in an activity that they enjoyed the most. Three guests and Sean re-visited the cellar to the coffee shop to see whether the spirit energies could re-create the sounds that we heard moment earlier, however after 20 minutes they returned as nothing was heard.

Once again a very successful ghost hunt at the Red Lion Hotel and an evening where all guests thoroughly enjoyed themselves and experienced all manners of the spiritual activity that the Red Lion Hotel can offer. It is an exceptionally spiritually active hotel and we as a team are looking forward to our next visit in August 2012 and subsequent visits later in the year.

As a sub note, I usually do not sleep after a ghost hunt, as we have a lot of equipment to pack up after our ghost hunts, but this was the first time that I decided I would actually have some sleep (3.5 hours) and as I was lying in bed the bed seemed to jump or jolt, which I thought to be strange and just as I was about to fall asleep I heard a female energy whisper in my ear “Hello”, had I not been very tired I would have investigated this more, but I shall leave this until our return in August. My room was room 10, which is a known haunted room, allegedly the room of the resident ghost Alice Millar.

Fort Horsted ghost hunt 17-3-2012

Fort Horsted ghost hunt – 17th March 2012

As a team we look forward to every visit at the Fort, mainly because every single time something unusual or interesting happens, again we were not disappointed.

Even before the ghost hunt had begun, I was showing the team around the Fort as there were some new areas opened up or cleaned up that we could use, whilst in one of these areas, two team members were with me, one stayed at the bottom of the steps. The three of us heard a whistle, I thought it was Carl (who stayed at the bottom) but when we descended the steps, Carl said he didn’t whistle nor had he heard a whistle.

A couple of weeks earlier I had visited the Fort to shoot some video and exactly the same thing had happened then, in exactly the same area.

Whilst in this area Sean felt someone blow in his ear and as I was showing Sean the entrance to the lighting tunnels I just had to fall over! As I often say to the guests and manager at venues, if anyone is going to fall over or bang their heads it is usually me!

We split the group up into smaller groups and each group headed off to their favourite areas, I volunteered to take all the groups to the double casements, as this involves a strenuous 67 stepped staircase. After the group had looked at the various rooms we started a séance in an area which in the past has proved very popular. A male energy by the name of Marcus stepped forward he gave me the date of 1978 and he was 34, and a mechanic. There was some small amount of movement from Marcus but some of the group were not patient and wanted things to happen instantly. Very little else happened in this session because the same people spent most of the time chatting or making unnecessary noises.

The second group that I took to the same area, had already had a very interesting first session, in this area a male energy called Taylor (which I presume was his surname) stepped forward he was in his late 30s or early 40s. He gave me the year as 1972 and he drove a gold coloured Ford Cortina with a red interior and his love was to accessorise his ‘baby’ (the car). When I asked what he did for a living he seemed very reluctant to divulge this information.

A female energy also joined us, her name was Annie and she was a WWI Nurse or FANY. (First Aid Nursing Yeomanry), she came across as being quite strict and was offended by some of the comments made by a male guest. In fact his EVP question was one of the clearest from the whole night.

Both Taylor and Annie started to move the arms of the guests and one guest felt as if she were being pushed down, as she commented that she felt a heavy weight on her shoulders. As a group we all heard whistling and mumblings, some of the guests saw red lights whilst others saw white lights. Guests also felt strange coldness spots and breezes, which is not unusual for this particular room and toward the end of the session groans and grunting were heard by everyone in the group.

We finished the session with an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena) or ghost voice experiment.

The best can be heard at http://youtu.be/qy0JxPAPa2s

The third group to this area had already seen and sampled most of the rest of the fort but once again this particular session (which is probably the most active area within the fort) was just as interesting. We were joined by a WWII soldier called Taff and Timothy, both in their early 20s. Taff was a Welshman with a loud voice and of stocky build, whereas Timothy was from Sunderland, fair skin and ginger and quite shy. There was a third soldier in the background although he never came into this room. There was plenty of movement and guests were pushed by unseen hands, all quite gentle though. We all heard whispering and mumbling again, as if we were hearing the sound of a conversation but not the actual words spoken. There were also some tapping sounds and some rather louder bangs. Some of the tapping noises were in response to me tapping my torch on the railings.

At one point I called out to spirit to make another noise and at that precise moment an owl which I gather was nesting in the moat or on top of the fort called out, which made everyone jump!

The last session we allow the guests to go wherever they wish to and I took a group to casement 10, which was damaged most during the tire fire which lasted for three weeks. This area is also where previous ghost hunts have had experiences with lit candles, because these rooms would have been used to store ammunition, the spirit energies that are present are all too familiar with what happens to open flames near ammunition. Whilst standing with the guests in the left hand room a male energy by the name of Philip made himself known to me. He gave me the year as 1672 (the Fort was not built until 1880) and he kept himself inside the lighting tunnel, almost too afraid to join us. Some of the guests saw shadows in the lighting tunnel as there are four ‘windows’ into the lighting tunnel in this room.

Once again a very eventful ghost hunt and at a location in which the guests thoroughly enjoy mainly because of its lack of modernisation, but that is what is part of its appeal.

Fort Horsted ghost hunt 11-6-2011 Lynn

Thursday, June 30th, 2011

I took my group to tunnel 11 (the Cave). We decided to go into one of the side rooms as light was still coming through the main tunnel.
We started with a séance circle, straight away a gentlemen came through who gave me his name Ted, he was about 65-70 years old about 6′ tall, silver/grey hair, he appeared to be very smartly dressed in a brown suit with a hat, he was also carrying a briefcase an old brown leather one. I asked what he was doing here he informed he was to do with the war but not a serviceman, (Anne then informed me he was a civil servant) Ted confirmed this to me. It became very dark in the archway the appeared to be 3 soldiers only one gave his name Jeff. I was asking the guests how they were all feeling and everyone felt uncomfortable as it was so dark I asked if the energies around us could give us some proof they were there. Some of the guest arms started to move upwards, Tess at this stage said she did not want this to happen to her, everyone was pleased when this happened. A female called Evelyn popped in to say hello, everyone was getting some physical proof throughout the séance.

After a short break I conducted an EVP recording and went back into the main tunnel. We decided to leave a torch on as it was too dark. As soon as we went into this tunnel I said to Sean “Hey Stu let’s get started” (I am unsure why I said this as I have known Sean for a number of years), as I looked down the tunnel a young spirit lad came walking up he said he was Stu, I asked spirit to give us some proof they were there and again Anne’s arm went up in the air as well as Lee and mine.
Another male energy came in behind me he told me his name was Terry; he was newly passed over and said he wanted help, I asked my guide to come forward to help take him over. There were some strange noises in this part they sounded like footsteps, everyone heard them but we had no idea where they came from.
After a short break of teas and coffees we were ready to tackle our next area. We were going into where Steve’s group had been, and all felt hyped up.
Straight away we lit a candle so we had some form of light we joined hands and started, Tess became a bit agitated and kept trying to pull away from the circle Sean kept a firm grip on her, both of us saw a male energy in the door where we had come from, again I asked sprit to move someone, Richard and Mark were very quiet. There appeared to be lots of soldiers standing against the wall behind Lee and myself and Richard kept shuffling and standing very straight and putting his feet together Richard said he was unaware that he was doing this, we had lots of arm movements, we asked the soldiers to come forward and talk to us, they were very reluctant to do this, we all heard what sounded like running down the tunnel. Mark started with the standing up tall, and being gently swayed, it was all very strange, after another short break I conducted another EVP experiment, everyone was very pleased to leave this area as we all felt on edge.
Our last port of call was with the rest of the group we split into 2 groups but at each end of the tunnel, I was left with just Lee, Mark, Richard and Sean, I can honestly say we did not stay here long as we all felt very uncomfortable nothing happened but we were pleased to leave.
An excellent investigation and one which I look forward to returning to.

Fort Horsted ghost hunt 11/6/2011

Saturday, June 18th, 2011

When I walked around Fort Horsted during the initial meeting, I thought that the first event was going to be excellent, however on the night my expectations were surpassed as the ghost hunt wasn’t just great it was exceptional!

We split into two groups and my group headed towards the left hand flank armoury room (not sure what its proper name is) and even though it was still light outside, in this room with the torches off it was as black as it could be, you literally couldn’t see you hand in front of your face, let alone anyone else.

There was a glimmer of light entering the room from the passage way, but this too was fading as the sun set.

We started with a séance and after talking people through the various safety measures, i.e. what I would do if someone was feeling unwell etc. I asked spirit to come and join us. A male energy by the name of Mark stepped forward, he was a scruffy looking person with Black hair and a long beard and he was dressed in hippy fatigues, he gave the year of his passing as 1976 and he was in his early 30s. Mark proceeded to lift the arms of myself, Charlie (guest), Rob (guest) and Laura (guest) at first and then proceeded around the circle giving everyone some form of movement, although Rob and I had probably the most movement. Many of the guest commented that I looked like a giant in the little amount of light that was entering the room, apparently my shadow looked twice as big as me. Rob commented many times that he thought that I was looking at him, when in fact I wasn’t, this was the energy Mark who was between us looking at Rob. During this session we all heard various female voices, as if someone was approaching and the footsteps, but no one ever arrived, the other group were as far away from us as possible and they were in the mirror image room on the other side of the Fort. There was no-one else on site. Yet we also heard mumbling and other random noises which we could not account for.

After the Séance I conducted an EVP experiment, the results of which are too quiet for us to hear, even when amplified I (and the experts) can hear something, but we cannot amplify it enough to decipher what is said. However there is one example which was good enough. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Fx1NW44B4A

After this session we took various photographs down the long corridor and along the corridor and steps that were out of bounds. (The reason why it was out of bounds was because of the war time graffiti that was written in pencil on the walls and if brushed by a coat this graffiti would be lost forever) Many Orbs were captured by just about everyone who took a photo down these corridors (the best examples can be found in our ghostly gallery) We then made our way back in the hope that the food had arrived, which it had.

The second session I decided to go to the area/room in which the other group had just come from (and they went to the area that we had come from). These rooms are identical and mirror images of each other on both sides of the Fort. As we entered the room people were looking for cave spiders and taking photographs etc. and then I suggested we hold a séance, everyone stopped moving, but the strange thing is, we were standing in a mirror image of the order we stood in the last place. That was a little bizarre and no-one could figure out how that happened because we were all wandering about and just stopped in those positions.

Even before I had started a Male energy stepped forward, he seemed to be a very strong energy. He was a well presented British solider, a Captain from the First World War, of slim build, 6′ tall with short cropped black hair with a very neat moustache and when I asked his name, he told me “call me Tarzan”.

Tarzan started pushing and manipulating Charlie, gentle pushes and then as the energy got more confident, stronger movements. At one stage Tarzan pushed Charlie and twisted him so that he was facing Tabitha, which surprised Charlie, as he came on this event as a sceptic. Tarzan then moved on to Tabitha and pushed her with ease much to Tabitha’s amazement. The energy had some trouble moving the next three people (Nicky, Kym & Laura) however they all spoke of feeling dizzy and that their stomachs were turning, as if the spirit were trying to move them from the inside out. However Rob was no trouble to move and at one point I asked Tarzan to either push or pull Rob so that it would be impossible for him to stand up without falling over. Tarzan happily complied and pulled Rob back so much that I and Laura had to hold him up to stop Rob from falling over. Rob was very impressed with this.

During this séance I had noticed another male energy, quite a large man wearing a white T shirt and boiler suit trousers, with a flat cap, roughly aged in his late 50s or early 60s, peering in from the opposite room, however this energy seemed reluctant to step forward or to enter the room that we were in. Although Tabitha commented that she felt that there was someone watching from the other room. Tabitha also commented that she thought my torch (which was left on outside the room) was moving or rocking. I do not know if this was the case because the torch was the only form of light, and it could have been a trick of the eyes. After this séance we made our way along the corridor for people to take photographs, and then made our way back to the hub of the Fort.

The third session, I decided that since the counterscarp galleries was a nasty and steep staircase that everyone would go there in one group. Once there we decided that we would split into our groups and we headed for the right hand side of the galleries. Within a matter of minutes a Second World War male energy made himself known to me, he was average build and about 5’6″ in height and had a very mischievous nature called Gerry. He started moving people’s arms, starting with Tabitha’s and mine and then gradually working his way around the circle. The he called out “Jefferson give me a hand” and another male energy joined us. From this moment, everyone was moved and then without any warning Tabitha started to laugh uncontrollably about absolutely nothing, she had no control over it, much to our amusement. Then Nicky started laughing for no reason, then Laura and finally Kym. The energies tried to make Charlie laugh but all that they achieved was making him smile a lot. At one point I heard one of the energies say “Oh Okey Cokey” and then everyone’s hands were being manipulated, as if we were doing the Okey Cokey. This proved very successful and much to everyone’s amazement and amusement.

Towards the end of this session a couple of people including myself smelt wet hay or straw, similar to a wet horse smell. Considering it wasn’t raining I have no idea what could have caused that smell, especially as it just came from nowhere.

I finished this session with another EVP experiment and the results of this are still being analysed although we have identified four spirit comments. (These will be added to the website when we have cleaned them up enough to hear the proper responses)

This was our first of hopefully many encounters at Fort Horsted and it was thoroughly brilliant, I for one cannot wait to return, as there are so many areas which we did not have time to visit or experience the energies that may have been there. A truly amazing ghost hunt.
