Fort Borstal ghost hunt – 12-1-2013

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 12th January 2013

Rochester, Kent

As with any of the Forts that we investigate, we always look forward to each event as paranormal activity usually happens in a surprising manner and since Fort Borstal is relatively new to us (our first event was October 2012) we are still looking for the “gems” of the Fort.

As usual I took the area that few of my team wanted to go to, mainly due to the wonderful [sic] staircase, all 200 steps of it!

The first group started in the left-hand counterscarp gallery and we were joined by a prisoner who was in his early 20s, six foot tall and had a very stocky build. This spirit who didn’t give his name was however very happy to talk to the guests via our electronic equipment, although he told me that he was at the Fort in 1885, which meant that it is likely that he was one of the prisoners who built the Fort. He also answered questions posed by the guests and one of the questions was whether he was stuck here, to which he answered “Yes”. I asked if he wanted to leave and needed help to do so, but he did not confirm, in fact he seemed to be undecided on this.

During the séance this spirit energy was able to move some of the guests arms and also gently push the guests. The arm movements however were limited to just one half of the circle. There was also a female spirit energy present although she was watching us and didn’t want to talk to anyone.

Throughout the whole session there were high levels of EMF (Electromagnetic Fields) as shown on our KII meters and high level of electronic communication. Many guests also felt cold spots and drafts, even though this is a sealed space with the only access to the outside from the entrance that we had walked down and once the door is closed no sounds or air movement should affect us.

The second group to the same area felt the presence of the same prisoner energy and another male spirit who also didn’t want to give his name. Once again during the séance there was some minor arm movement and several guests including me felt items of clothing being touched or moved. One guest said that she felt a “proper” poke in her back.

Due to the fact that the level of activity was low, the group spilt up with half of the guests venturing down to the other end which is also another counterscarp gallery which looks out over the other side of the dry moat. They held a séance here as well and also had some light arm movement, but one guest felt some touches by spirit on his arm which scared him and the séance circle was broken.

After these two controlled sessions, like the majority of our ghost hunts, we then let the guests roam and go to whichever area they would like to do their own ghost hunting. Many of the guests opted for The Officer’s Mess area, as this area was not used during the controlled sessions.

Four guests however asked me if I would join them back in the counterscarp galleries as they wanted to get a similar level of activity they experienced the first time. On enetering the area for the third time I noticed that the atmosphere felt different, a good different. After the guests wandered around the right-hand side gallery and made their way to the left-hand, I set up my laser grid in one of the tunnels and although nothing interesting was seen, it did allow me to take some interesting photos. I then joined the group and suggested that we hold a séance as I could see spirit energies wanting to “play”.

As soon as we started the séance a male spirit energy called David joined us, he was a high ranking Officer in the British Army from the Second World War era and he had 3 pips on his shoulder, which I have since found out means that he was a Captain. He was in his 50s and about 5’8” in height. He sported a full beard which was “Salt & Pepper” in colour and he wore round rimmed spectacles. David was very polite but also very stern, but when I asked whether he would move the guests he immediately said to be “Fine” and then everyone felt their arms being moved along with lots of swaying and pushing, followed by lots of twisting sensations and people being pushed into other people.

Scott (guest) was also able to ask questions in his head and use us as pendulums for yes and no answers, all of which were answered correctly according to Scott.

At the end of this session I held an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiment and played it back immediately as I thought I heard some answers to the questions posed by guests, however the biggest surprise was the question that I asked, everyone could hear the answer when the recording was playing, without any enhancement, which is quite rare.

The EVP can be heard at http://youtu.be/RpVS3t_x6LE

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the ghost hunt with many people getting their own paranormal experiences, many guests experienced the most activity when they were in small groups of just 4-5 people.
